July 5, 7, 14, 16, 28, and 30.

Each session is held over 3 days. Each student receives a whistle, hip pack, CPR mask, and a t-shirt. Students must complete a swim assessment prior to registration. See the attached flyer for more details. Cost is $75. To register, visit webtrac.stcloudfl.gov

Information about the program, which is entirely voluntary, can be found online at https://www.stcloudfl.gov/2220/Special-Needs-Registry. Parents or caregivers to those on the autism spectrum or with other cognitive, behavioral, or neurological conditions can complete and return a registration form, and in return the department will provide decals for the home and a vehicle to identify that a special needs individual may be inside. The site features answers to frequently-asked questions as well as tips on how to make police interactions less stressful.

“Sometimes, people on the spectrum can feel scared or nervous when they interact with first responders, especially during an emergency” said Police Chief Douglas Goerke. “The St. Cloud Police Department wants to ensure everyone feels safe and respected when they interact with our Officers, so please do not hesitate to register.”

If one of our officers has contact with a person in the program, our dispatch center can provide the officer with the information needed to successfully interact and communicate with them, as well as provide our officers with the contact information of the person who completed the registration.
