The March Growth (membership recruitment) Blitz will be with us before we know it. There is still time to prepare if you haven’t done so already. As we've seen in the past, one of the successful plans is to Recruit Toward the Degree. And now with the new Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity this is even easier to schedule than ever before:
• Schedule a “Fraternal Benefits” night for the parishes you serve.
• Invite all the members of the parish, and invite your chaplain, field and/or general agent.
• Welcome everyone, invite Father to speak, then explain the history of the Knights, and of your council.
• Ask a young man who is a member of your council to speak on why he became a Knight and what he enjoys about being active in your council. Next…
• Have a family man from your council discuss why he joined and how being a Knight doesn’t take away from his family duties but is part of his family life with the council’s family activities. Then…
• Invite a “seasoned” member of the council talk about why the Knight have been important to him throughout his membership.
• Have your field/general agent speak on the benefits of being a member.
• Finally let those men gathered know that they can sign up today and attend the new Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity the following week (or instead, the next traditional First Degree held).
• If they are still hesitant or would like more information, make sure they have signed up on your council’s Prospect Page (formerly called a council’s Landing Page) for more information.
Make sure to keep the meeting to an hour. Provide refreshments, prayer cards and council brochures, and a list of upcoming council events which they can attend.
All indications are that the growth in our Order here in the Archdiocese is trending upward. Hosting events like “benefit nights” and/or Delta Church Drives can get men interested in our Order. Especially when they see how much fun and meaningful it is to be a Knight.
For me, the closest friendships I have ever had are with my brother Knights. This is important in these times when we as men often feel alone in our Catholic spirituality. So let’s offer the gift of membership to those good Catholic gentlemen of our parishes.
Fraternally yours,
Michael Felerski

Growth
The New Exemplification is a Growth Game Changer Tom Wuebker, Archdiocese of Cincinnati Membership Director (North)
It was my pleasure meeting all the District Deputies from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati over the midyear DD meeting. I particularly enjoyed the one-on-one with each of you. This was my first opportunity to sit in on the one-on-one sessions without being in the “hot seat”. I was able to learn a lot from this opportunity and came away with some knowledge from each one of you and your councils!
There was a lot of information presented during the weekend and I hope all of you learned something that you will be able to use in your districts! The presentation of the new ceremonial DVD is going to be a huge game changer for increasing membership in the Knights of Columbus. There are a lot of positives with the new DVD. I truly believe that new members will enjoy and appreciate getting all three Degrees (Charity – Unity – Fraternity) in one day.
Along with that, their families can watch their husband, father, brother as they join the K of C. As you learned there will be speaking parts along with the video. If you have active degree teams in your area and they would like to continue to participate in the degrees, you can have the members of the degree teams do the speaking parts. This gives our councils and districts a choice to utilize what will work best for them.
Membership numbers are down overall in the Archdiocese. “Tweaking” our recruitment processes could help get our members back to where they should be. Keep scheduling Degrees and plan ahead for the next membership push in March.
Vivat Jesus!

Effective Change Over Meetings Bridge Council Action
The most important thing to remember is that the council must serve its members, parish and diocese for it to be trusted and accepted. Listening to the needs of those you serve will inform how your council speaks about programs that enhance the mission of the parish. As in the Gospel, actions speak louder than words. This webcast will focus on:
Electing council officers each year is just the first step in forming a team. Appointment of key directors, chairmen, and committee members is especially important to council success. This webcast will provide an overview of:
• Winning over your pastor as the number one supporter of your council
• Showcasing your council in the
• Council officer duties and responsibilities
• What makes someone the right person for a position
• How to conduct a change over and calendar planning meeting using the Fraternal Success Planner

Matching Funds Presentation As mentioned in the January issue of The Arch, 2019 was a very successful year for the 2019 Matching Funds Campaign across our jurisdiction. Brother Knights of the Arch helped the state surpass last year’s Matching Funds campaign by over $3,700! It was my honor at the January Mid-Year District Deputies meeting, as Chairman of the 2019 Matching Funds Campaign, to present each religious education director with the check form their diocese.
For me it was an extremely proud moment to present a check in the amount of $14,334.26 to Mr. Sean Ater, Director, Office for Evangelization and Discipleship for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. This was the largest check presented to a diocese that evening.

Fraternal Benefits
Love is in the air! We spend a lot of time thinking about our loved ones during the month of February and especially around Valentine’s Day. Technically, it’s St. Valentine’s Day, originally the feast day of a Roman saint from the third century. There is much speculation about the origins of the feast and even some discussion about the identity of the saint. We do know that this St. Valentine was martyred on February 14, 269 and the feast day was instituted by Pope Gelasius I in 496. But how did St. Valentine, a martyr, come to be associated with love and romance? Again, there is much speculation and one popular story is that he cured the blind daughter of his jailer. Before he was led off to his death, he wrote her a note and signed it “Your Valentine.”
Unlike St. Valentine, most of us are not called to martyrdom, but we do think about our loved ones…and we write love notes and greeting cards. Gifts are commonly given to the ones we love. But have you ever considered some special gifts for the ones you love?
That’s really what insurance is all about. People buy insurance because they love someone. I bought life insurance because I love my wife and children. If I’m not here to provide for them I want to make sure they can stay in the same home we love; I want to make sure that my children will have the college education they will need; I want my family to continue to live the lifestyle I’ve been so fortunate to be able to provide. My policy even has living benefits that I can enjoy!
I want to make sure that if I am sick or hurt and can’t work, my family still has money coming in to pay the bills. Disability Income Insurance helps provide for that.
I’ve been able to provide a lifestyle for my family, but sometime down the road, I’ll take the assets I’ve accumulated and retire. Long Term Care Insurance helps me protect those assets in case I have an extended care event. I won’t have to spend down all that I’ve saved to pay for care…I’ve shifted that risk to the Knights. My retirement annuities will help my wife and me enjoy our golden years. With a lifetime minimum interest rate guarantee I know I’ll always be in the black with my account.
All the products we have available are centered around protection; protection for me, for my family and for what I’ve been able save. Is your protection where you want it to be for your loved ones?
At this Valentine’s Day, remember to sit down with your Field Agent and see where you stand. Make sure you have insured your love. Go ahead and buy that greeting card, write her a love note…maybe even get a beautiful arrangement of flowers or a dozen roses. But remember, the gift of protection will be there when it’s needed most.
