myGEKOgear Introduces Orbit 960 Dash cams have become increasingly important for many drivers, and choosing the perfect one can be difficult with all the options out there. These days, 1080p dash cam footage may be enough for some drivers, but the rise of 4K quality has become essential in capturing every single important detail on the road, such as license plates. In the case of a road incident, providing dash cam footage as evidence has proved to be extremely useful. myGEKOgear has just released the Orbit 960. This dash cam records at 4K ultra high definition at a resolution of 3840 x 2160p at 30fps, ensuring clarity and quality at a high speed. The 2.7-inch LCD screen will give you easy visibility to access your dash
cam. Using a 140-degree wide angle lens allows for a wider range of recording more lanes of the road. Revolutionary night vision technology is built in using the Sony Starvis sensor. This sensor is perfect for low-light situations to help render a well-lit and clear video. For user-friendliness, WiFi connectivity is used to easily view and transfer your recorded footage via dash cam straight to your smartphone. This eliminates the hassle of having to physically take out the microSD card each time and inserting it into your PC to view your footage; now everything can be simply be done at your fingertips. Using GPS logging will track the speed and all the routes that have been driven. To promote better driving habits, driver assist features
ADAS: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems By Augustin Leung, Vice President, CUB Elecparts, Inc.
ADAS is the acronym for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. The idea is that by providing a safe interface to the driver, roadway safety should be improved. The machines are helping us watch out for things that we may not see with our own eyes. But what does this mean to you? The general benefit is clear: we, along with
everyone else, will enjoy safer driving conditions. Most accidents on the roads are due to human error, and nearly 10 percent of fatalities are due to distractions. But what it means is that we can help reduce these statistics; we are now enabled to promote and provide these technologies to the masses. Popular applications in the category for retrofit include Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning
Consumer Electronics Daily News include a front collision warning system, lane departure warning system, and stop and go. The built-in G-sensor will lock onto emergency files if it senses a collision; users won’t need to worry about files being recorded over or running out of space. A 16GB microSD card is included within the package, so you’ll be set to install and capture everything that unfolds on the road. With clearcut 4K recordings, you won’t need to worry about what really happened in the case of an accident. Be prepared and ready to drive with peace of mind. ASHA Helps Parents Manage Technology Use An interview with Joseph Cerquone, Director of Public Relations, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
CEDN: The American-SpeechLanguage-Association (ASHA) has been exhibiting annually at CES for more than a decade. In your view, what major changes have occurred with respect to safe and healthy usage of popular technology?
JC: There has been considerable change. When we first exhibited, personal digital technology was still very novel. It was all about using and enjoying the devices without much thought given to the impact of unsafe behavior, and how it could negatively affect hearing and speech. In fact, a lot of users probably didn’t even know that how they were using the devices was unsafe. In those days, ASHA was one of the
very few voices raising concern. Now, not only has the number of concerned groups increased, but also the number of individuals, including parents, educators and CES attendees themselves. Our polling of them shows them to be pretty conservative about popular tech use. For example, according to one poll of 200 attendees to CES 2018, almost 70 percent said children should not have their own personal technology devices until age 10 or older; nearly one-third (30 percent) said children should not use popular tech devices until age 10 or older. Today, there is greater awareness of some of the potential risks involved in unsafe use of popular technology. Yet, one need not look any further than a World Health Organization (WHO) estimate to understand that more awareness is critically important. According to WHO, unsafe use of what they refer to as
Move Marketing Forward with Innovations from USPS In the past, marketers targeted broad demographics, blanketing them with their brand messaging and hoping for conversions. More recently, digital retargeting technology has taken over, allowing marketers to precisely reach interested shoppers with effective messages at optimal times. Consumers, however, have evolved beyond these methods. A report from eMarketer found that one in four U.S. internet users have ad-blocking services in place, helping them ignore digitally retargeted messages. A number of marketing innovations – some of which were developed by the U.S. Postal Service®v – are helping businesses reach qualified customers in a meaningful and memorable way by using data intelligence. These four innovations blend the
precision and power of digital media with the effectiveness of physical mail:
Retargeted Direct Mail Incorporate retargeting into direct mail to rekindle a customer’s interest in a less invasive manner that spans multiple channels. Using programmatic algorithms and machine learning, retargeted direct mail gives a business the opportunity to send simple, personalized mail to a customer based on the customer’s interactions online. The targeting message is timely, too, typically arriving within 24 to 48 hours of their initial action. Informed Delivery® Turn a standard direct mail campaign into an interactive omni-channel one. The Informed Delivery feature lets users preview their mail before it arrives in an
Trinseo Bio-Based and Recycled Materials Target Customers’ Sustainability Goals A trip to most any technology event highlights the leadership role that the consumer electronics industry has played in product innovation and also its influence on other industry sectors including automotive, medical devices and home appliances. Now it’s being recognized as a true leader in sustainable solutions – supporting the growing need to protect the environment and preserve our scarce resources. Trinseo, a global manufacturer of plastics and sustainable solutions, is taking a leadership role as well by not only providing bioplastic alternatives to petroleum-based materials but offering a range of recycled content-containing resins. These materials are appropriate for a wide range of consumer electronic applications ranging from portable device
housings to connected home appliances to fitness wristband trackers to accessories and parts.
Trinseo and Bioplastics With more than 60 years of experience in customized thermoplastic compounds and elastomers, Trinseo’s bio-based thermoplastic product families APILON™ 52 BIO and APIGO™ BIO can be found in a wide range of applications and can contribute to a reduction in CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil-based plastics. Traditional plastics are derived from petroleum or natural gas while bio-based plastics are, to a varying degree, derived from renewable biomass sources such as cornstarch, sugarcane, sugar beet, cellulose or vegetable oils.
personal audio devices is contributing to 1.1 billion young people worldwide being at risk of acquiring noise-induced hearing loss.
CEDN: What is behind the concern?
JC: On the hearing side, repeated use of popular tech for extended periods at high volume – a usage habit that polling has consistently shown to be widespread – can result in noise-induced hearing loss, an irreversible condition. Otherwise, as very young children have come to be tech users, a newer worry has arisen about the impact of that usage on the development of their speech and language skills. Engagement in conversation – a proven and critical way of fostering that development – may be taking a back seat to tech use. When we did national polling of parents of children 08, they reported a lessening in conversation at home. In short, a portion of the public may email, app or online dashboard. In the preview, consumers also gain access to digital ridealong content that drives them to a company’s website or other digital channel. These users then have multiple distinct opportunities to take action – from their inbox to their mailbox.
Informed Visibility® Coordinate campaign efforts and enable synchronicity between digital and physical efforts by leveraging near-real time tracking for mail deliveries. The Informed Visibility feature offers tracking data that marketers can use to sync digital campaigns (such as banners, social ads, emails and more) with their mail campaigns. This way, they can reconnect with consumers shortly after they receive a physical mailpiece. Aligning campaigns across multiple channels helps businesses reach prospects at the right time and frequency The company’s portfolio includes soft and rigid grades. The broad range of properties available make these polymers and compounds ideal for a variety of applications needing various degrees of hardness, resistance to oil, grease, chemicals and temperatures, as well as colorability and recyclability.
Trinseo and Recycled Materials Since its start with post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials nearly a decade ago, Trinseo has overcome numerous challenges such as PCR feedstock availability, reliable sourcing and ways to balance material performance properties to ensure the integrity of end-use applications. These materials – Trinseo’s ECO grades – combine virgin content and PCR (plastic scrap or waste from consumer applications that is reclaimed, reprocessed and used again in new applications) to achieve the exact properties

eventually acquire hearing loss or experience stunted speech and language skills – conditions that can hinder one in key respects academically, in the world of work and socially, and harm one’s quality of life overall. CEDN: Why should CES attendees stop by the ASHA booth?
JC: No doubt there is overlap between the public we have polled over the years and the customers or potential customers of companies here at CES. The polling shows many parents struggle managing their children’s popular technology use. ASHA offers informed, practical, easyto-implement guidance that can help with that management as it promotes health and safety. We invite attendees to learn more at ASHA’s booth.

Digitally Enhanced Mail Add a digital layer to a physical direct mailpiece to spark curiosity and lead prospective customers directly to a business’s digital channels. Using scannable QR codes, connected NFC chips or technology like augmented or virtual reality, businesses can add a layer of interest to physical mail that draws in a consumer. On top of that, each of these can then lead a recipient to a specific digital channel where they can continue to interact with the brand. As modern marketing moves and changes, businesses can benefit from thoughtful and creative campaign elements. These innovations can help power successful omni-channel campaigns and prepare marketers for what’s next. Learn more about delivering innovation by visiting USPS at CES. needed for an application. In fact, the company is able to create a material with up to 95 percent recycled content. This includes ultra-bright white and transparent options – both difficult to achieve with material other than virgin content. Over the years, Trinseo has seen that some applications are appropriate for recycled content and some are not. For example, industries that are highly regulated or have strict requirements have limitations due to the variability in recycled resin content and the potential impact on material performance properties. Trinseo, with its a unique blend of traditional rigid and soft touch, its sustainable materials platforms and solution orientation is positioned to offer creative solutions to help customers achieve their sustainability objectives. Enventys Partners gave their concept IQ points with a smart watering algorithm and improved the device aesthetics. It also developed an
The Occupational Health & Safety Issue the Gaming Industry Is Ignoring All occupations and industries have their employee health hazards. The gaming industry has focused on second-hand smoke, noise-induced hearing loss, higher risks for alcoholism, gambling addiction, depression and repetitive physical activity induced ailments, to name a few. But there is one health issue that is lacking discussion and therefore not being properly addressed – improper foot care and how it relates to negative overall body health and wellness. According to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), 77 percent of Americans say they have experienced foot pain. When you add in a physically demanding work environment to the above, the percent undoubtedly rises.
Foot issues can be attributed to a couple things – genetics and incorrect footwear – for the job, the environment and the individual foot. Genetically speaking, a person can be born with flat feet, high arches, the tendency to over-pronate (feet roll inward), etc. The good news with genetics is that they are not incorrect issues that need to be fixed, but rather supported to avoid setbacks and future debilitating conditions. However, genetic features are often exacerbated, and new foot ailments are developed, when a person wears unsupportive, poorly designed or improperly fitted footwear. For example, if the arch on a flatfooted person is not properly supported,
Bowling Brings Profitability and Guests to Casino Resorts Bowling is changing the landscape of what a destination casino resort can look like, according to Adam Saks, Chief Operating Officer of UltraStar Multitainment. “We strongly recommend bowling as a vital piece of the puzzle for those casinos who see an underserved entertainment market.” Saks has found that bowling serves local community members and resort guests while also generating impressive revenue for investors. UltraStar has partnered with Brunswick Bowling to include bowling in three Multi-tainment centers to date: at Ak-Chin Circle in Maricopa, Arizona; Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in Cherokee, North Carolina; and at Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy, North Carolina. Bowling is an excellent choice for tribal casinos looking to diversify their offerings, provide more family-friend-
ly activities for members and keep guests on the property longer. Bowling is a proven revenue generator in its own right, while also boosting other revenue streams, including food and beverage. “What arose as an idea and request from our tribal elders has become a business that will sustain many in our community and region and provide another pastime for those in our communities and those visiting from other parts of the country,” said Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Principal Chief Richard G. Sneed. Saks has been impressed with the ways bowling has kept up with the times and the changing demands of today’s consumer. “The innovation in bowling products allows the modern bowling center to provide both affordable family fun and an

especially during an 8-12 hour workday, breakdown happens, body weight pressure is unevenly distributed, contact with the ground is lessened, reducing balance and stability and the body unnaturally shifts, resulting in pain in the knees, hips, back and shoulders. The body becomes biomechanically inefficient, which leads to an unproductive worker. But finding footwear that fits every individual foot can be difficult. No one person’s foot is exactly the same, and while the selection of footwear brands to choose from is immense and diverse, all are built and designed for mass production – not individual customization. The physical consequences to your employees are many. Short-term issues include muscle fatigue, leg and foot swelling, balance issues, lack of concentration, minor foot, leg and back pain, neck and shoulder stiffness, musculoskeletal disorders and more.
Long-term issues include worsening of existing coronary heart disease, chronic heart and circulatory issues, varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, major foot, leg and back pain, knee and joint pain, plantar fasciitis, high blood pressure, arthritis, bunions, pregnancy complications, poor posture, tendonitis, soft tissue injuries and more. All of the above issues lead to high absenteeism, low retention, low productivity, low concentration, increased BWC claims and insurance rates and overall bad morale. That’s not good business. The solution to these business issues along with improving the occupational health and safety issue of improper foot care is for your employees to stop buying footwear to fit their foot, but to fit their foot to the footwear.

The physical nature of the action and the excitement of healthy competition all aid in a comprehensive wellness goal the community has for its members. The bowling center is important to the community in many ways. First and foremost, it is a complete departure from gaming. It invigorates the young while energizing the elders. Our bowling center also makes a dramatic impact for the community
members’ employment opportunities for those 16 and older.” “In comparison to other attractions, bowling provides a faster return on investment than more complicated and expensive options,” said Saks. “For casinos, bowling centers are lanes to profitability. Bowling provides you with a very low overhead and operating cost. Proper design of a bowling center will allow you to maximize labor for efficiency and ensure a smooth guest service experience.” Brunswick provides the casino resort industry with a full range of services from feasibility studies and project planning to facility design, construction management, installation and training.

Controlled Pyrolysis Cleaning Furnace from Pollution Control Pollution Control’s industrial cleaning furnaces (burn-off ovens) cover the entire spectrum of thermal stripping and heat cleaning technology. Safe and effective, they are capable of handling any combustible that can legally be removed with heat. Widely used in industry, Pollution Control burn-off ovens safely remove polymers, paints, powder coatings, adhesives, grease, insulation and chemicals from paint hangers and racks, engine blocks, electric motors, extrusion screws, breaker plates, dies, nozzles and many other metal parts and tooling. Virtually pollution-free, the company’s patented Controlled Pyrolysis® process eliminates all hydrocarbon emissions, and the use of
dangerous chemical strippers and other toxic materials. In today’s competitive manufacturing marketplace, production lines must be super efficient and pristine. Changes in process materials or colors, the build-up of polymers or simple routine maintenance require that equipment be thoroughly cleaned before it is returned to production. Repetitive manual cleaning will in time result in physical damage, not to mention injury to employees. Chemicals and abrasives may pose serious health and environmental consequences. Controlled Pyrolysis is a gentle process that extends the life of parts and tooling. Operating at 800-1,000 degrees
Kiss the Cook in Wimberley, Texas By Lorrie Baumann
Bren Isgitt opened her Kiss the Cook kitchenware store in Wimberley, Texas, in 2001 in a building tha.t had been an
old house. Owner Bren Isgitt and a friend who was a business partner at the time bought the house on a handshake deal on the square in Wimberley and started renovations. “It had been an old house with lots of low ceilings and little rooms,” Isgitt said. “We raised the ceiling by vaulting it to the roof, adding beautiful massive structural beams.” With the renovations complete, Isgitt and her partner stocked the new store with the inventory they'd moved over from the 800 square-foot shop in Abilene, Texas, that they'd been operating together since 1998. “We grew the store in three and a half years to where it was bursting at the seams,” Isgitt said. “Since we were renting, we decided we could move it to somewhere we wanted to live, instead of west Texas.” They held their closing sale in Abilene in June of 2001 and were moved out by the end of July. The grand opening for the new store in Wimberley was held on October 1 of 2001. “It was market day, when 20,000 people come to town,” Isgitt said. “We opened that weekend, and at the end of the first day – boy, we knew we made the right move.” In Wimberley, the two friends found a Texas Hill Country community of home cooks who had Food Network on their

Fahrenheit, pyrolysis converts organic-based materials into a carbon-based smoke. The smoke is then passed through a 1,500 degree Fahrenheit afterburner, exiting the exhaust stack as odorless and harmless water vapor and carbon dioxide. Advanced control systems maintain a low oxygen atmosphere that fully protects the tooling being cleaned. It’s easyto-operate self-adjusting controls reduce labor cost and machinery downtime, and its automatic time cycles ensure the oven runs only long enough to clean parts. The history of Pollution Control is the history of “burn-off” ovens. Peyton Simpson, the company’s Founder, designed his first burn-off furnace in 1970 for a neighboring business needing
cable television, access to culinary schools in Austin and San Antonio and the incomes they could generate in city careers to support their culinary aspirations. Some of their new customers were Houstonians with second homes in Wimberley where they came to relax for family weekends, and many of them were tourists who came to swim in Wimberley's famous Blue Hole, to kayak on the Blanco River and to shop in Wimberley's downtown boutiques. “It's both a weekend and a vacation place.... There are lots of good restaurants and boutiques,” Isgitt said. “We found a real niche.” Some of them wander into Kiss the Cook thinking it might be a restaurant. They're likely to laugh and tell Isgitt that they're going to need to go with the family to eat, but they'll be back afterwards to shop,” Isgitt said. “Their favorite saying – besides, 'I love this place' – is, 'If you don't have it, I don't need it.'” Inside the 1,800 square-foot store, they find an interior remodeled in 2017 by Isgitt and HTI Buying Group President, KC Lapiana. Quiet Mark Recognizes Hushed Appliances By Lorrie Baumann
Quiet Mark is a certification program that rewards consumer products that do their part in combating noise pollution. “It's a consumer champion award for solutions to noise issues,” said Poppy Szkiler, the certification program's Founder. “We're on digital overload. It's never been a more important time to surround ourselves with sounds that calm us, rather than ones that induce stress.” The certification is a project of the Noise Abatement Society, a nonprofit United Kingdom organization founded in 1959 by Szkiler's grandfather, who recognized that the noise and commotion caused by World War II hadn't entirely disappeared when the war ended. “He
was being driven bonkers by it,” Szkiler said. “So, he took action and set about lobbying Parliament about the issue.” As a result of his efforts, Britain's Parliament passed the Noise Abatement Act in 1960, and the Noise Abatement Society turned some of its attention to other ways of working on the problem of noise pollution, including efforts to reward industry success in noise abatement. “Industries had invested millions in noise abatement, so they were supportive of some recognition,” Szkiler said. “It was immediately a great success.” Since then, the program has begun to spread from the UK to the United States. Leadership for the parent organization was passed down to Szkiler's
Commercial Roadway Safety By Augustin Leung, Vice President, CUB Elecparts, Inc.
The NSC reported that 8.5 percent of fatalities are classified as “distractionaffected” by NHTSA. However, Heidi King of the NHTSA said the true number is probably higher. The reality is that on today’s roadways, drivers and pedestrians are more and more distracted. Factors such as connected devices, social media, streaming media and entertainment options make it easier, day by day. So does that mean that we, ourselves, are the reason that we have more accidents? Does that mean that we should also be charged with the responsibility to reduce the number of accidents on the roadways? According to
the National Safety Council, 2018 did result in a slight reduction of fatalities by 1 percent. This is a positive move, as 2017 was one of the worst years on record in the last decade. But what else can we do? Technology seems to be the root of the problem; perhaps it can also be our savior as well. Just as much as there are products to distract us, there are also products to help us when we are distracted. Diwa Nien, a sales representative for CUB, a radar safety product manufacturer, said, “It’s our responsibility to be safe drivers, but accidents happen. There is technology to help us be more careful and aware of our surroundings.” Nien introduces CUB’s new Commercial Wide Turn Assist BSD System.
Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions By Robyn Perry, Chief Marketing Officer of Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions
Based in Foley, Alabama, Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions is a customeroriented equipment sales, service and training company offering quality products, powerhouse brands and total shops solutions. Originally founded in 2009 as a Snap-on Tools franchise, Founder and current Chief Executive Officer Lee Locklear recognized the limitations of being able to properly service customers from the mobile tool truck business format. In 2012, the Snap-on franchise was sold, and the new company
mission began: provide the best solutions available for our customers backed by unsurpassed service, support and training. In just a few short years, Cutting Edge grew from a garage-based business to a multi-million dollar tool and equipment company. In November 2019, Cutting Edge is moving into its third commercial facility in four years, giving the company a total of 41,000 square feet. CEAS specializes in OEM and specific aftermarket diagnostic tools and equipment for cars and light-duty trucks, agriculture and construction equipment, HD diesel and light commercial vehicles,

mother after the death of her father and then Szkiler herself heard the call to the mission. “I had an epiphany when I was 30. I wanted to make a change in the world,” she said. “With Quiet Mark, our family passion for widespread wellness and noise abatement comes from the decades of knowledge we have on the subject.” Quiet Mark has partnered with the Good Housekeeping Institute to do the acoustic testing on home appliances that want a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. “As a third party, what we're doing is noise measurements,” Szkiler said. In its testing, Quiet Mark compares the noise made by an appliance with the noise levels produced by other appliances in the same product category. Testing verifies manufacturer claims about noise produced by the appliance
as it's actually used in the home. The organization has data bases for more than 45 product categories ranging from microwave ovens to immersion blenders, mixers and stick vacuum cleaners. In order to get the Quiet Mark seal, appliances must test in the quietest one-third of similar products. “What we would love to do is bring the testing over the next few months to retailers, in order to increase sales of the quietest products. That way, retailers would know which are the quietest products,” Szkiler said. The Quiet Mark organization is currently publicizing the issue of household noise and the existence of the certification in the U.S. with the introduction of its Quiet Mark badge for the U.S. market. Appliances that qualify for the certification will be allowed to use the badge on their packaging.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, a total of 4,102 people died in large truck crashes in 2017. Seventeen percent of these deaths were truck occupants, 68 percent were occupants of cars and other passenger vehicles, and 14 percent were pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists. The number of people who died in large truck crashes was 30 percent higher in 2017 than in 2009. The same year, nearly 298 billion miles were covered by trucks in the United States. Sixty-seven percent of the fatalities occurred on roads other than interstates and freeways. The number of miles covered and where the fatalities occur is simply astounding. CUB showcases several Blind Spot Detection (BSD) systems that are available for nearly any type of vehicle. The
new 77GHz Commercial BSD system is an amazing way to add a blind spot system to protect from pinch point accidents. The kit includes radar sensors that are strategically mounted on the sides of the vehicle. The system is revolutionary in preventing accidents in the pinch points of large trucks when making turns, especially in tight, urban environments. This sort of functionality is now required in certain parts of the world and it is expected to propagate to other regions as well. It only makes sense to reduce risk, improve awareness and lower liability by utilizing such technology.

Murata: Spotlight On Data Center Power An interview with Scott Klettke, Director of Business Development, Murata’s Connectivity Business Unit.
CEDN: Can you lend high-level perspective on the data center market?
SK: The industry is massive, complex and completely dynamic. As 5G, cloud, edge data deployment and AI applications gain significant traction, the demand for data centers soars. With that comes the need for advanced power management solutions. Consider this – it is estimated that four percent of our global energy consumption happens at the data center level. That is a massive swath. CEDN: What is the opportunity?
SK: Energy use is a major cost to operate
a datacenter. That is why many facilities are located where costs are lower, like the Pacific Northwest that has substantial hydro options or in cooler areas where A/C costs can be mitigated due to heat generated by processors, power supplies, etc. Given that, anything that we can do to improve efficiency will positively impact the market’s trajectory and benefit all stakeholders.
CEDN: What is Murata’s competency that can improve data centers’ efficiency?
SK: As a global technology leader, we approach this opportunity like we do all others – as engineering, packaging and material experts focused on innovation, collaboration and integration. If you follow Murata, you know that we con-
Add Compact Fingerprint Functionality to Your Product Line By Jeff Brown, Vice President of Sales, SecuGen Corporation
What is the U10-SF? The U10-SF is an ultra-slim standalone fingerprint sensor module. It is designed for OEMs and developers to embed into a wide variety of compact hardware products that require fingerprint biometric functionality. Examples include mobile devices, ATMs, POS devices, access control systems, lock boxes, safes and nearly anything that could benefit from the added security and convenience of biometrics. It comes preloaded with SecuGen’s Fingerprint Management System software that allows it to be used right out of the box to capture fingerprint images, extract templates, enroll, search and match fingerprints all in one device. What is special about the U10-SF? The U10-SF provides the tools and tech-
nologies that allow for the rapid and efficient development of a wide variety of embedded fingerprint solutions where high quality, rugged design, and affordability are key factors. It is the world’s smallest programmable optical fingerprint module of its kind and is FBI certified for image quality set by the FIPS 201, PIV and Mobile ID FAP 10 specifications. With high image quality, you can be assured of greater accuracy and reliability which is especially needed for sensitive and secure applications.
What’s inside the module? The core of the U10-SF sensor module is the U10, a rugged, high image quality optical fingerprint sensor. This sensor also features an integrated Single Board Computer that contains a 1 GHz CPU, a fully programmable Linux system, SecuGen’s fingerprint matching SDK,
tinually push the limit on the levels of densification that we achieve. Because of that, we pack more highly efficient power into smaller spaces to handle more servers. CEDN: How does Murata accomplish this?
SK: We leverage our power supply architecture expertise and integrate world class capacitors and inductors to enable highly dense, flexible and configurable solutions. Additionally, they are extremely reliable. With required uptimes approaching five nines, builtin redundancy is an inherent part of this and something we deliver via instantaneous battery backup. That said, with such a broad portfolio of offerings, we integrate at a level where most cannot – like in our custom and OCP compliant racks, which and OpenSSL Cryptographic libraries. The template extraction and matching algorithms that run on the device are NIST MINEX certified. All of this power and functionality is packed into an ultra-slim profile not more than 12mm in thickness.
What does this mean for OEMs? We have always focused on delivering to our OEM partners the tools they need to compete successfully in this highly competitive industry. The U10-SF is a perfect example of this focus, as our team has worked long and hard on this product, to achieve three goals: to reduce the size of the sensor to our smallest ever; to merge a Single Board Computer with the fingerprint sensor module and embed an open Linux development environment; and, to drive the final product down to the lowest price in its class. Altogether, this resulted in a world class OEM sensor that’s unique in the industry and a major breakthrough that our OEM partners have been asking for

These resins are made up of in part virgin plastics and in part recycled material with the virgin content being a plastic from a petrochemical feedstock such as gas or crude oil and the PCR content being reclaimed after leaving the consumer. A common misperception regarding recycled resins, says Trinseo, is that material with recycled content will be less costly since its content is partially used material. In reality, there are a number of additional and more complex steps involved in PCR material creation ranging from additional development time to ensure mechanical performance, to additional cleaning and processing steps, to added quality control. Despite the effort involved, Trinseo is committed to making an impact with its PCR materials. Matias makes other keyboards as well, and has been manufacturing keyboards for over 15 years. operating systems. However, I think some of the more interesting things are happening in the hardware supply chain. For example, how do we pack all of the hardware, sensors, processors, batteries, etc. into a vehicle and ensure the reliability and comfort that we are used to? Building on that, there are numerous technology subsystems in play and up for grabs. One battle happening is among the more than 100 companies competing to produce the most effective version of LIDAR. These dynamics have laid the groundwork for a hardware renaissance. Managing this aspect of the new automotive supply chain will provide significant opportunities to those who do it best. Atlantic (Cont’d. from p. 1)

What’s under the hood? The Unity 20 Bluetooth can be used right out of the box using the pre-installed Fingerprint Management System software. Alternatively, it can be completely custom programmed to suit the needs of the targeted user base. Within the slim, sleek white case, the reader has a 1GHz CPU and complete Linux development environment, including SecuGen’s fingerprint capture and NIST MINEX-compliant template extraction and matching algorithms, and the OpenSSL cryptography library. CEDN: How do you see electronic component companies helping to advance these rapidly emerging means of mobility?
TK: Electronic components are a tremendous part of the vehicle today – newer automobiles have more than 20,000 alone. As we follow the ACES model, that number will continue to grow. That innovation is going to require new products, such as sensors, as well as improvements and extensions on current technology. Examples include managing thermals as we pack more circuit boards in the vehicle and power them with rechargeable batteries or developing new hardware solutions to handle all of the required high-speed communications. Each circuit board can have thousands of

board level components – all of which are essential to advancing these technologies. CEDN: Why sensors?
TK: As we work to automate the human driving process, we need to mimic vision, hearing, touch and instinctive decision making. This is a tall order and only deepens your appreciation for how extraordinary the human senses are. While the sensors may never mirror human vision 100 percent, they will be substantial enough to drive a vehicle. Additionally, adding other sensors can mitigate some of human characteristics of unsafe driving, such as fatigue or distraction. Being able to monitor our driving, environment and health will enable
