SecuGen’s Ultra-Compact, High Quality Fingerprint Reader, Hamster Pro 10 By Jeff Brown, Vice President of Sales, SecuGen Corporation

What is Hamster Pro 10? The Hamster Pro 10 is a sleek and ultraslim USB fingerprint reader. It is the slimmest and most compact of SecuGen’s line of fingerprint scanners. Despite an attractive low price, it is FBI certified for high image quality called for by FIPS 201 PIV and Mobile ID FAP 10 environments. As our customers expect, the Hamster Pro 10 is another high-quality fingerprint reader. Inside the Hamster Pro 10, we completely re-engineered and patented an innovative fingerprint module that makes it the smallest FAP 10

optical sensor in the industry that also meets the stringent image quality standards of the FBI. The clean, low-profile design of the case of the Hamster Pro 10 is a ‘tour de force’ unlike any of its predecessors, and our partners love the new product.

How do I work with it? The Hamster Pro 10 is compatible with a range of SecuGen’s free software development kits that allow developers to create applications for use on Windows, Linux and Android. We also offer SDK plugins for other environments that are compatible with Hamster Pro 10, including Microsoft Remote Desktop and Citrix.

Murata: Spotlight On Batteries An interview with Jin Park, Business Development Manager – Murata’s Battery Group.

CEDN: Batteries are relatively new to the Murata line-up. How did that come about?

JP: Three years ago, we announced our intent to enter into a binding agreement with Sony to transfer its battery business, which first entered the market in 1990. That deal closed in 2017. Since then, we have been focused on integrating that unit into Murata and defining the strategic direction, competitive differentiators and value propositions. The goal is to pursue the opportunities that will cement our global leadership position in the rechargeable battery market.

CEDN: What are you seeing in the battery market?

JP: Similar to other parts of the electronics industry, the number of items that use batteries has skyrocketed. Twenty years ago, they were relegated almost exclusively to laptops and phones. Today, batteries are ubiquitous – from insulin pumps to drones, smart meters to tire pressure monitoring systems, vacuums to power tools – the list is massive. The proliferation of healthcare, IoT, vehicle electrification and energy storage system applications are driving the unprecedented demand. Given Murata’s comprehensive range of components already within these sectors, our battery solutions are a natural extension of the value that we

Tech Employees Grow Mindful About Healthy Tech Usage Awareness has grown over the years for the need for safe and thoughtful usage of popular technology, and tech workers are some of the most conscientious about their digital habits. Whether it’s aimless scrolling, reflexive phone-checking or even marathon gaming, thoughtless usage of popular technology is not the way to spend time, according to industry insiders attending last year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Mindfulness –

that is, purposeful, thought-out usage of tech – was a common piece of advice from surveyed attendees. The American Speech-LanguageHearing Association (ASHA) surveyed CES attendees last January about tech use. The 180 respondents, most of whom worked in the tech industry, answered open-ended questions about their efforts to manage their tech time and practice healthy use of technology. Respondents warned against using

Cyber Garage Management System Is your collision center running without a management system? That could be risky, as every business, no matter how small or big, requires a management system, especially in these times. Businesses have evolved to be more complicated than what it used to be and as such, you require a competent and up-to-date management system for your business if you wish to survive the competition in the marketplace. Moreover, the cost of management systems has become very

affordable in today’s market. So, what is stopping you? Having a management system can actually save you money when it comes to improving production and labor efficiency. A management system allows for electronic communication to vendors and customers and offers real-time update status notifications to customers. A management system can increase your customer satisfaction index, and displays your company’s financial position in real

What does this say about us? We are continually expanding our product line in response to the requirements of our partners. Our focus is, and has always been, to design and deliver products that can help our partners succeed in the marketplace. The Hamster Pro 10 continues this focus as the demand remains for high quality optical fingerprint scanners that are thinner and more compact than ever before.

CEDN: What are Murata’s battery offerings?

JP: Our battery line-up consists of three key products: lithium-ion batteries, energy storage systems and micro batteries. In the past, we were focused primarily on consumer devices. That has since shifted to delivering our battery offering to the industrial market and the myriad of applications within that area. CEDN: What’s the value proposition?

JP: Two words: safety and reliability. What customers receive in a Murata battery – quality, technological superiority, training and engineering support – is unsurpassed. The stakes for using a lesser product are far too high. The market collectively knows this and trusts in our

tech for “passing time” or “as a means of self-indulgence and gratification.” Mindful usage was stressed, with the assertion that “tech should be a tool.” Balance and moderation were also popular recommendations. In addition, many respondents said they are taking steps to manage their own tech time, or at least plan to do so. Methods reported included daily hour limits, time monitoring apps, or just personal habits that promote other activities over tech use. The importance of self-discipline was mentioned repeatedly in survey answers. Thoughtful tech use that discourages

Innovating to Enhance the TSA Pre✓ Experience The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Apex Screening at Speed program pursues transformative research and development (R&D) activities that support a future vision for increasing aviation security effectiveness from curb to gate while dramatically reducing wait times and improving the passenger experience. To enable this vision, Screening at Speed, in conjunction with the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Innovation Task Force, is soliciting ideas for passenger self-screening technologies to help transform the TSA’s PreCheck concept of operations. Just like self-checkout at grocery stores, self-tagging checked baggage or automated teller machines, many patrons prefer an experience that they can complete all by themselves, at their

own pace. Screening at Speed is exploring ideas for using similar concepts to help expedite the passenger screening process. S&T would like to collaborate with stakeholders to develop solutions that will: enable a self-sufficient experience in the passenger screening process; allow for passenger on-person and accessible property screening to occur in a single step, compared to the two distinct steps that exist at airports today; enable passengers to directly receive screening alarm information in real-time so they can try to resolve alarms themselves (i.e., remove a coat or a belt) to reduce instances where a pat-down/secondary screening procedure would be necessary; allow passengers to complete the screening process more quickly; and maintain or improve the current security posture at the airport checkpoint.

VideoAmp Partners with TiVo To further advance its practice of commingling TV viewership data from Smart TVs (ACR) with the same from cable and satellite set-top boxes, VideoAmp is partnering with TiVo. The expanded data set extends VideoAmp’s TV Viewership data pool to cover 25 million devices in 19 million U.S. households and gives marketers and media owners sophisticated cross-screen media planning, measurement and optimization capabilities, bolstered by device-level viewership data and audience insights from participating multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs), TV and DVR manufacturers. VideoAmp uses commingled TV viewership data to map households to privacy-protected digital identity and

advertising exposure data to model a nationwide, cross-screen audience that brings transparency, liquidity and accountability to the media and marketing ecosystem. For marketers, this makes it easy to effectively target, engage and measure audiences. For media owners, this makes it easy to analyze and assess audiences, to optimize yield across screens holistically. “This new relationship with TiVo will allow our data to cover a huge number of households and devices, giving marketers and media owners the opportunity to leverage this crucial insight as they come under increased pressure to show value for marketing dollars,” says Randy Laughlin, Senior Vice President of Business Development at VideoAmp.

TECH R&D Broadens Injury Application Angle for Uni-Seal Repair Product TECH’s R&D team has been actively pursuing parent company TRC’s 4r vison, to create and extract value from materials formerly considered to be at the end of their usable life. TECH’s R&D team took this vision to heart by altering the materials and process utilized in the manufacture of its one-piece Uni-Seal truck and passenger

car repair products. By increasing the injury and repair angle from 25 degrees to 35 degrees, it greatly increases the number of tires that are able to be repaired verses scrapped, thus keeping them on the road and out of landfills. According to TECH’s Vice President of Technology Bill Johnson, “We were confident that with slight modifications

Car Bench: Big World Solutions from a Family-Owned Business Car Bench was founded in Massa, Italy in 1967 with the idea of making vehicle repair safer, easier and faster. The Pietrelli family has for over 50 years held true to these philosophies. Car Bench was the first company to make a bench with lift capabilities. In 1979, Car Bench was the first to create and manufacture universal jigs. Today, it

is the only manufacturer that can claim to work not only with the OEMs at the prototyping and manufacturing level, but the collision repair industry as well. So, when it says that it is built on a Car Bench and it’s fixed on a Car Bench, it means it. Today that dedication to development continues with its state-of-the-art

Consumer Electronics Daily News DHS S&T issued a solicitation for solutions that may be rapidly developed to detect threat items hidden on passengers in a way that reduces the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) engagement that is a normal part of the current screening process. The objective would be to create passenger friendly, intuitive screening while improving security, accelerating the passenger experience and reducing patdown rates. Potential solutions may take advantage of the natural motions of passengers combined with existing screening methods such as walk-through metal detectors and/or millimeter wave. The goal is to achieve a thorough inspection for any concealed items and provide near realtime feedback to the passenger if additional action is necessary. The passenger will only be allowed to leave the station once they have been cleared. If an alarm cannot be resolved through passenger

self-screening, a TSO may be needed to assist. “TSA PreCheck is already one of our most innovative products, improving the travel experience for enrolled travelers,” said Kelli Ann Burriesci, TSA Assistant Administrator for Enrollment Services and Vetting Programs. “We’re going to keep moving forward toward the next generation of the TSA PreCheck experience.” “To move forward to the next generation of the TSA PreCheck experience, significant innovation is necessary,” said Dr. John Fortune, Apex Screening at Speed Program Manager. “DHS S&T and TSA are excited about working with industry to accelerate, pilot, and quickly deploy new ideas to deliver leap forward solutions to airports nationwide.”

“We are excited to be working with VideoAmp to pioneer the future of television and cross-screen video advertising,” said Walt Horstman, SVP/GM Data and Advertising, TiVo. “We believe our nationally-representative, highly-accurate viewership data enables unified planning, activation and measurement for all. Together, we hope to dramatically improve the advertising experience across screens.” “CIMM has long supported integration of Set-top Box data with Smart TV data to enable a more holistic view of the television audience universe and mitigate the limitations inherent in both data sets by combining the two,” says Jane Clarke, Chief Executive Officer and MD of The Coalition For Innovative Media

Measurement (CIMM). “We welcome the efforts by VideoAmp to advance such integration and help bring media buyers and sellers a step closer to the larger and more complete data samples needed for true cross-platform measurement.” VideoAmp’s sophisticated data modelling empowers ecosystem parties to bridge the silos between TV, OTT and digital video. The resulting unified VideoAmp household currency makes it easier to value, buy and sell cross-screen audiences.

In addition, it conducted FMVSS-139 tests with each tire. Each test tire had multiple injuries, all of which were at a minimum of 35

Why are Media and Marketing Professionals Here? Jack Myers, Founder of By AdvancingDiversity.org and MediaVillage.com

Why does the media, advertising and marketing community love CES? Are we here to stand in awe of and inspired by the technological innovation on display? Is it to gather ideas and identify opportunities to advance each of our businesses? Probably neither. While inspiration and opportunities may evolve out of the two-to-four day CES experience, many executives fly into Las Vegas, check into their hotels and then rarely make it off the Strip. We stick with each other, communicate to each other, live within our bubble. We come to CES to meet with each other and hopefully, to absorb through osmosis the major trends in technology highlighted here. My colleague Jeff Minsky spent one early January at his desk in New Jersey streaming keynote address-

es and following press coverage. He reports a far more positive business and learning experience. Yet we’re here enmasse and we’ll be back next year. The Advancing Diversity activities on January 8 are focused on welcoming the CES world beyond our industry’s self-imposed borders. More than 50 of the leading media, advertising, marketing and entertainment companies and 500 leaders are joining to welcome the tech community, students, educators, veterans, hospitality and healthcare workers, and other-abled. You’re invited you to learn more about the opportunities we offer. The Advancing a Diverse Workforce MeetUp, hosted for the third year by AdvancingDiversity.org and MediaVillage, responds to the technological advances that are transforming business-models and personnel needs. While business realities and requirements are changing with dramatic speed, our workforce remains embedded

CUB Safety Introduction By Augustin Leung, Vice President, CUB Elecparts, Inc.

Today, safety is one of the most used buzzwords in the world regardless of industry, profession or region. Safety is an important part of everyone’s life from waking up and not slipping in the shower, to the commute home and not getting in an accident. But what does it mean when we talk about it in the circles of consumer electronics, automotive, transportation and recreation? Who is responsible for the safeguarding of lives and our wellbeing? What is it that we can do to improve our chances to be safe, reducing the overall risk we take in daily activities? We’ll explore this with CUB, a manufacturer that designs and manufactures radar-based safety equipment.

With over 40 years of experience, CUB is a Taiwan-based company established in 1979 and has now grown to have a global footprint. This includes manufacturing in Taiwan and China, along with offices in the United States. “CUB has three primary pillars of business: electromechanical parts, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) solutions and radar safety products,” states Eric Ho, CUB’s Director of ADAS Development. “The radar safety product division is our newest addition to the product portfolio beginning in 2016.” However, their team of experts bring decades of experience to the table with qualified personnel holding doctorate degrees, seasoned automotive experts and proven business professionals. New offerings from CUB include a

plethora of safety solutions ranging from your basic Universal Blind Spot Detection (BSD) kit for passenger vehicles, a highresolution Pedestrian Detection System for mass transit and even an innovative commercial wide turn assist blind spot detection system. BSD systems are becoming mainstream and an available feature on many cars and trucks; nearly every model offers it in some way, shape or form. However, it is yet to be standard across all trim levels. CUB offers in-bumper sensors for passenger cars, replacement integrated tail lamps for pick-up trucks, and custom mounts for specialty applications such as motorcycles and recreational vehicles (RV). BSD systems help drivers look over their shoulder. With LED indicators and audible alarms, drivers are that much safer with

an extra set of eyes right where they need them. Specialty applications such commercial BSD systems, pedestrian detection and traffic awareness are also a part of the CUB portfolio with 77GHz radar products. CUB recently introduced a pedestrian detection system to monitor the danger zones around school buses, keeping children and adults safe during the loading and unloading process which is the most dangerous time. To keep first responders and workers safe, CUB has developed a traffic awareness product which watches traffic and warns the police, refuse workers, road workers and the like before they are struck by passing traffic.

Creating a Winning Customer Experience By Simon Sundberg, Head of Demand Generation OSS/BSS, Ericsson

“You’re not too young for this position, frankly, I would be more worried if you were my age!” The regional Senior Vice President smiled at me. I was five months into heading up Ericsson’s client marketing engagement organization in Southeast Asia, and not entirely sure I was the right person for the job. He continued to explain to me that our clients across the region – the mobile operators – served a young consumer base. The median age in Southeast Asia is 29. I was 32 at the time. When you do something for the first time, you’ll make mistakes, and I was certainly no exception. But my age suggested that I could relate to the expectations of both Generation X and Y. That taught me something about recruitment, and the first point I’d like to make. People are part of your essential

infrastructure to create a successful business, and it starts with leaders who can choose the right people. I assume that we don’t know the best use cases for 5G yet, and that we haven’t even discovered all the opportunities we can make possible through LTE. Some of you may remember when 3G arrived. All operators promoted video calling, which almost no consumer used. The best opportunities for mobile operators are ahead and this means the best offers have yet to be invented. If the assumption that the best is yet to come is true, the most future-proof platform is the platform that will give mobile operators the freedom and agility to experiment and try new things, at a cost that’s as low as possible. You don’t want to spend weeks in configuration, or maybe even months in development, just to find out that your new offer doesn’t fly. Ericsson BSS and Dynamic Orchestration solutions help mobile oper-

ators to drive this transformation, and dramatically lowers the cost of screwing up. Established and documented processes are crucial to move towards automated operations. When you can automate the back end of a marketing department, your marketeers can spend time on marketing, and not manual documentation and misunderstandings with the technology team. For instance, you can already today ask marketing and IT to standardize documentation used for idea generation of new offerings to how that input is used in executing the final configuration of the BSS. This will decrease misunderstandings and drive consistent input to IT implementation. So get ready to invent, experiment and catch the opportunities – before someone else gets ahead! Accuracy Is Safety in a World of Millimeters In 2018, 92.7 percent of consumer vehicles produced included at least one Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) feature. ADAS technologies are designed to improve the convenience and safety of driving by warning the driver that a crash is imminent or by temporarily automating certain aspects of vehicle control such as acceleration, braking or steering. As these technologies become more available to motorists, they have the potential to reduce rates of crashes, injuries and deaths on roadways. There is still a learning curve for consumers, and the full potential realized by these technologies won’t occur until drivers understand how to use them as intended and avoid becoming overreliant on them. The same learning process applies to collision repairers,

where the tolerances for sensor placement need to be precise to not only calibrate the sensors, but to ensure they are performing to the safety specifications as the OE intended. Automotive design has evolved rapidly in the past decade, not just the ADAS components. In order to address government mandated fuel economy standards and improve safety, manufacturers have moved towards aluminum bodies versus steel. This reduces vehicle weight, improves energy absorption, and larger crush zones that fold more predictably. Due to this physical change in construction, vehicles involved in collisions often experience structural movement in the upper body beyond the frame. Structural movement in the upper body can impact the positioning of an

Owning a Spray Bed Liner Business There’s nothing quite like being an independent business owner. Building your business your way that’s set in your own management philosophy can be a game changer. If you have an interest in the automotive aftermarket, becoming a certified bed liner spray owner-operator may be the right business for you. Every so often, the aftermarket receives a new product that is destined to become one of the true hallmarks of the industry. One such product is Bullet Liner, which is making its way into the aftermarket, one step at a time. With all new products, a proven track record is not given – it is earned. Installers, technicians, jobbers and distributors need more than just a promise – they need proven results.

On Track to Becoming an Industry Leader At Bullet Liner, one of the hallmarks of the brand is the fact that it is not franchised. That’s right – since day one, it has been proud to be the market’s only “UN”-Franchised Alternative™. And Bullet Liner believes that there are a number of advantages to steering clear of traditional franchise networks. According to Forbes magazine, here are a few of the main clues to watch out for: Traditional franchise networks are known for passing along “hidden fees” to their members (whether they be additional start-up or entry costs, or fees for marketing and sales training). Typical large franchisers often promise lofty “average earnings” (it’s

Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions By Robyn Perry, Chief Marketing Officer of Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions

Based in Foley, Alabama, Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions is a customeroriented equipment sales, service and training company offering quality products, powerhouse brands and total shops solutions. Originally founded in 2009 as a Snap-on Tools franchise, Founder and current Chief Executive Officer Lee Locklear recognized the limitations of being able to properly service customers from the mobile tool truck business format. In 2012, the Snap-on franchise was sold, and the new company mission began: provide the best solu-

tions available for our customers backed by unsurpassed service, support and training. In just a few short years, Cutting Edge grew from a garage-based business to a multi-million dollar tool and equipment company. In November 2019, Cutting Edge is moving into its third commercial facility in four years, giving the company a total of 41,000 square feet. CEAS specializes in OEM and specific aftermarket diagnostic tools and equipment for cars and light-duty trucks, agriculture and construction equipment, HD diesel and light commercial vehicles, marine vessels and power sports vehicles. Consumer Electronics Daily News array ADAS, including forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), lane keeping assist (LKA), blind spot monitoring (BSM), rear crosstraffic alert (RCTA) and adaptive cruise control (ACC). Many of these sensor mounts have a +/- 1mm tolerance in order to calibrate and function appropriately, especially in instances where it must read objects in the distance for collision avoidance. As ADAS systems become more prevalent and advanced, accurate blueprinting during collision repair is crucial to the integrity of the vehicle and calibration of sensors back to OE standards. The absence of proper and precise measuring tools leads to highly subjective damage assessments which are often made based on opinions and guess work. The Matrix Wand uses a simple, straightforward

process to assist collision professionals, automotive manufacturers and insurance providers in repairing vehicles to ensure the safety and functionality is restored as the OE intended following a collision. The 3D structural diagnostics provided by the wand lead to minimal vehicle teardown and ensure accurate estimates to reduce supplements while increasing efficiency throughout the repair process. The Fenderbolt software, powering the Matrix Wand, integrates the Mitchell Reference Database to compare points to factory specifications. Calculations from the wand and its software are accurate within +/- 1mm, assuring precision repairs and calibration of ADAS systems.

important to note that success always varies on the skill set and resources of individual operators – often while revenue costs may be high, corresponding expenses may be as well, which is why it’s critical to have a candid, open assessment before signing up and evaluate median income numbers, rather than averages). The presence of stringent rules, and in effect, a strict “boss” (one of the reasons many operators are attracted to the freedom of independent ownership is the opportunity to have an entrepreneurial career of their own, but many franchisers still operate with a staunch structure that can mimic more traditional employers… and bosses).

You’re trapped! Many typical franchise networks make it very difficult for an operator who is unsatisfied to leave (by providing strict out-clauses and non-competes, and requiring that the member agree to an extreme number of regulations and provisions). At Bullet Liner, you have the “Freedom to Perform” – the type of freedom that attracted you to this exciting line of work in the first place. The Expansions of Original Parts Group Determined to supply Chevelle and El Camino parts to GM enthusiasts and others in the restoration industry, Dave Leonard, President and Founder of Original Parts Group, started a new enterprise out of a two-car garage in Santa Ana, California, named Chevelle Classics. He found very quickly that he would need more space and moved his business into a larger garage. As the product line grew to over 5,000 parts and accessories, the garage was no longer cutting it. Chevelle Classics moved into its third location, a warehouse large enough to house an enormous amount of product for its growing product line. Chevelle Classics continued to invest in manufacturing, as its number

one goal and focus was to produce the largest selection of reproduction parts for Chevelle and El Camino enthusiasts. As its product line continued to expand, Chevelle Classics was forced to pack up and relocate on multiple occasions. By June of 1990, it was in its sixth location and its product line had grown to over 20,000 different restoration and high-performance parts. In 1994, parts and accessories were added for Pontiac (GTO, Tempest and Lemans) and Chevelle Classics now had the largest selection of in-stock classic GM restoration parts in the United States. With multiple product lines now available, Dave found it necessary to give his company a more suitable name, and Chevelle Classics officially became Original Parts

SOLiD DAS Keeps NYC Connected in Demanding Environments The urban landscape of New York City is one of the most concentrated in the world. It includes soaring skyscrapers along with a vast maze of subway routes and road tunnels. Everywhere in the city, visitors, residents and workers access wireless systems as never before. A June 2019 report from Pew Research notes that 81 percent of Americans have smartphones, up from 35 percent in 2011. Almost three-quarters own laptop or desktop computers, and about half own tablets. The proliferation of streaming HD video and expanding LTE and 5G services ensure a key role for distributed antenna systems (DAS) well into the future. SOLiD DAS addresses wireless connectivity issues in demanding urban environments such as subways, tunnels, airports, office buildings, condominium high-rises and other densely populated structures.

Evolution of Wireless Coverage in NYC In the early 2000s, Bandwidth Logic deployed outdoor networks in Central Park. The company also set up networks for corporate clients like Pfizer and the News Corporation of America. Early contracts focused on pole top antennas and fiber installation. Eventually, Transit Wireless was specifically created to deliver wireless services in the MTA subway. Ultimately, Transit Wireless chose SOLiD DAS to meet the unique demands of the subway environment. SOLiD’s equipment had already proven itself in the subway system in Seoul, South Korea. Over the years, there’s been a change in who owns the equipment. The carrier consortiums of the early 2000s are giving way to third-party ownership of multicarrier equipment. Bandwidth Logic is a third-party owner (3PO) dedicated to serving enterprises and carriers alike.

SecuGen’s fingerprint matching SDK, and OpenSSL Cryptographic libraries. The template extraction and matching algorithms that run on the device are NIST MINEX certified. All of this power and functionality is packed into an ultra-compact profile that has defied our old model of a sensor and a separate board running the extraction and matching algorithms. Being able to unite all the parts of the OEM sensor and shrink them into one very small sensor and at the same time embedding an open Linux development environment makes this product unique in the industry.

What does this mean for OEMs? We have for many years focused exclusively on delivering to our OEM partners the tools they need to compete successfully in this highly competitive industry and are pleased to continue to deliver world class OEM sensors. Coupling our high quality, rugged optical fingerprint sensors that SecuGen is known for, with a sophisticated development platform,

Group, Inc. Year after year, Dave continued to introduce new product lines for Oldsmobile in 2001 and for Buick in 2002, offering many “restoration industry firsts” including injection molded interior parts, aluminum and chrome moldings and bright trim. It was then that sales tripled for Original Parts Group. Towards the end of 2002, OPGI found itself relocating to its seventh location, this time tripling in size to 54,000 square feet to house 50-plus employees and a growing inventory. Five short years later with 100 plus employees and over 50,000 in-stock parts and accessories, OPGI moves to its eighth and largest location. The new facility is over 100,000 square feet and capable of 250,000 square

feet with mezzanine. In 2009, OPGI added a new product line to address the needs of classic Cadillac enthusiasts, and then in 2010 came parts for Buick Riviera. A year later, the Pontiac Grand Prix, Bonneville and Catalina product lines were added with the Buick Grand National, T-Type and Regal product pushed in 2016. Last year, OPGI was thrilled to announce that it was working hard on expanding its Cadillac line. The new expansion covers CTS, STS, ATS, XLR and even Escalade/EXT models for all years up to the present day.

SOLiD DAS in NYC In NYC, SOLiD DAS now enables 2 billion wireless connections annually. Equipment versatility and durability are key factors in SOLiD’s success. For example, SOLiD’s ALLIANCE DAS meets the demand for LTE services in any band. ALLIANCE DAS can lock in radio frequency (RF) power levels to meet public safety communications requirements pertaining to 2-way (UHF/VHF) and publicsafety (700/800) services.

Commission (TTC) subway system.

SOLiD: Subway DAS The sprawling Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) subway system requires wireless coverage in 472 stations serving 1.7 billion riders/year. SOLiD leveraged its experience with other large subway systems to propose equipment for NYC’s subway. SOLiD’s success with the MTA subway led to yet another deployment of the Multi-Carrier DAS in the Toronto Transit

For the most up-to-date information on OPGI expansions and product offerings, go to www.opgi.com.

SOLiD: Building DAS Consider the magnitude of the DAS requirements in the city’s ubiquitous skyscrapers. For example, at the UN headquarters, SOLiD DAS helps to address the wireless needs of representatives from 193 countries. It also serves 1 million visitors per year. SOLiD’s state-of-the-art DAS is also critical in the 2.2 million square foot Empire State Building. This iconic attraction hosts 3.5 million visitors per year. Residential structures have massive wireless requirements as well. Consider 432 Park Avenue, the tallest residential building in the world. The 412,637 square foot structure is 1,396 feet tall.

SOLiD has been an innovator in wireless communications equipment for more than 20 years. For more information, www.solid.com.

Accenture’s Trends to Watch at CES 2020 Accenture has identified the following trends that will be prevalent at CES this week:

5G the Future of Home and Work The traditional notion of home and work as static shelters will soon be entirely replaced by the general consumer mindset of “home and work are everywhere.” 5G will make it possible for experts and top professionals to work virtually onsite where the skills are lacking physically. In hyper-connected homes, we will have remote doctor appointments, learn with holographic teachers and have access to services via fingerprint-sensitive touchpads. At the business level, a plant manager in Seattle can use a 5G powered, extended reality headset to immerse themselves in a virtual replica of a factory in Vietnam. Volumetric executives can appear in meetings anywhere

in the world with next generation conferences. Doctors can leverage the ultrareliable low latency of 5G to perform specialized surgeries remotely. Many businesses are thinking about the practical strategies that allow them to make the most of the newly emerging 5G opportunities across industries, the obstacles to overcome for the market to flourish, and the roadmaps and core capabilities needed to turn 5G opportunities into value and profit.

The Future of Mobility and Profitability Autonomous driving is at a crucial turning point. The euphoria towards commercializing fully self-driving vehicles has diminished for the nearterm. Without a clear outlook on the future of autonomous driving, and if or how it would impact traffic congestion and vehicle emissions, the fundamental

creating new value propositions and opportunities to innovate and grow. But emotional data will test corporations with a deeper set of challenges that require responsible actions. Emotional data will challenge companies because reading people’s emotions is a delicate business. Emotions are highly personal, and users will have concerns about privacy invasion, security breaches, emotional manipulation and bias. Responsible business practices must be part and parcel of the data privacy issue – a main concern for consumers in this digital age. Acting as a responsible business will require companies to address a wider set of stakeholders on this topic, including customers, ecosystem partners, employees, policy makers, shareholders and potentially others.

ASHA’s Concern About Tech Use Shared by World Health Organization The American Speech-Language Association (ASHA) has long raised concern about the threat to hearing from listening to personal audio devices too loudly, too often and for too long. That concern was validated anew last February when the World Health Organization (WHO), in conjunction with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), introduced first ever global safe listening recommendations for manufacturers of personal audio devices.

Collectively, the recommendations are referred to as the WHO-ITU Global Standard for Safe Listening Devices and Systems. According to WHO, nearly 50 percent of people age 12–35 years old – or 1.1 billion young people – are at risk of hearing loss from prolonged and excessive exposure to loud sounds, including music heard through personal audio devices. Since 2006, ASHA has been a leader warning the public about the risk, so

Introducing Aegis Smart Door Lock Bosma, a global leader in smart connected devices, will launch a new stylish door lock called Aegis. The Aegis intelligent door lock will feature several standard features like remote lock/unlock, keyless entry, door ajar notifications, various access levels, and some that are not so standard like the Anti-lock pick detection and auto-lock and unlock feature via Bluetooth. The design of the Aegis door lock was a partnership between Bosma USA and Ink Studios, both located in Northern California. It’s elegant octagonal alloy design compliments the rest of its features. The design also includes a magnet-

ic front cover that houses its 4 AA batteries, making it easy to replace. An LED indicator informs the user whether the door is open or closed. Bosma also mentioned that the Aegis door lock is ideal for renters or Airbnb host as it does not replace the entire door lock, but just the inside deadbolt, which still gives users the ability to use their existing key. Aegis door lock features a built-in sensor that alerts you if your door has been left open or ajar. The installation of Aegis door lock takes about five minutes from start to finish. Once installed, you can navigate its features using the Bosma app, which you can find in Google’s Play

The recommendations ask manufacturers to equip devices like smartphones and other personal audio devices with information that explains safe listening and includes usage warnings, tracking information and options for limiting volume levels. The recommendations would also have safe listening information appear in Store or Apple’s App Store. Recently crowdfunded Sentry Doorbell will also feature a biometric scanner that will allow users to unlock the Aegis door lock using their fingerprint. There will be an unlimited number of users you can register to use this feature. Bosma stated that it took customer feedback very seriously, and that led to the design and features of both units. They also said that they might consider crowdfunding for the Aegis door lock in February of 2020. Bosma will even consider giving test units to consumers as part of its “Got to love testing” program that allows consumers to test the latest
