This month, we bring news that Zafferano America has debuted a new tabletop line I got word that the collections were going to debut at Atlanta Market W hat I didn’t know was that while the line was building momentum in the company for several months, the launch came together in just a couple of months I found that out by talking to Chris Collins, who built a reputation for himself as owner and president of Arte Italica He was brought on to bring the new tabletop line to market It was impossible not to be excited about the dinner ware lines F irst, I love stoneware Second, Chris was just so excited to talk about the collections As you see in the photos along with our cover stor y, the collections are beautiful and distinctive I wasn’t at Atlanta Market, but I will be at the International Housewares Associations’ The Inspired Home Show (come say hi!) and Zafferano America is in booth S4045
I always look for ward to going to The Inspired Home Show I first went years ago and I’m looking for ward to seeing it this year, even bigger and better I’m intrigued to see the Travel Gear + Luggage pavilion As I’m sure you know, the Travel Good Association has teamed with IHA to hold its annual exhibition within the Clean + Comfort Expo, next to the Discover / Design Expo in the North Building of McCormick P lace
I grew up traveling a lot and still do I got my first set of matching luggage when I was a junior in college and traveled with a university group to Great Britain I felt so chic The large suitcase had wheels, which was pretty new in those days O ver the years, I’ve added other pieces because, as we all know, the manner in which we travel has changed drastically over the years Before I got TSA PreCheck, I chose travel shoes by how easy I could slip them off and on during the security process (long ago, I never even thought about what shoes to wear!) Likewise, depending on the flight, I choose which suitcase to pack for check-in and which to bring on the plane I recently bought a Biaggi carr yon that fits under the seat, but can be expanded to fit in the overhead bin (The only downside is it has so many zippers, I still don’t know what all of them do!) Then I see all sorts of things that are helpful (I think) when I travel: travel bags, storage containers, etc So I’m excited to see what the travel goods section has to offer I’ ll probably want one of ever ything!
In Januar y, the IHA held a preview of TIHS in New York You’ ll see what I saw in the preview this month. It ’ s just a fraction of the exhibitors who will be in Chicago, of course, but it was a great way to get into the spirit of things and I loved seeing my IHA friends again

By the time The Inspired Home Show opens, more than 1,600 exhibitors from more than 40 countries will have their products on display, according to Derek Miller, president and CEO of the International Housewares Association.

This year ’ s winners inc lude a breast pump washing basin for moms on the go, yarn storage system for craf ters, produce keeper and ripener, plant watering system, tactile safety system for the visually impaired and a coffee grounds storage and recyc ling system
The competition, sponsored this year by Procter & Gamble, challenges college students to redesign a current housewares product to meet the needs of the future or to create a concept for a new product W inning projects are selected for their inno vation, understanding of production and marketing principles and quality of entr y materials
Since 1993, more than 6,500 entries have been submitted to the rigorous competition, which honors excellent design as well as communications skills W inners have launched successful careers in the housewares and design industries and have returned to judge other student contestants
