Stage 8 Locking Fasteners Seeks Dealers, Jobbers and Wholesale Distributors Stage 8 Locking Fasteners, Inc., (Stage 8) celebrates more than 30 years of failsafe joint integrity for critical applications. Founded in 1985 by Bruce Bennett, the company provides locking header bolts to frustrated backyard mechanics a well as produces them for industrial purposes. As Bennett notes, everyone has something they want to stay put – without concern – and his company does so for many industries. Stage 8 Locking Bolts are used in locomotives, automobiles and earthmovers. Stage 8 manufactures and sells a patented mechanical locking fastener system, which is impervious to vibration and heat cycle. Invented by Bennett, the patented three-piece system installs easi-

ly and is completely re-useable. Customers have the ability to specify materials as well as plating for their custom applications. The company’s origin story sets the tone for the company. As Bennett notes on his website, just like many other motorcycle owners, he regularly worked on his own bike. One day, more than three decades ago, as he was replacing a new exhaust pipe, the pipe fell off – the first day out of the box. He realized there was nothing preventing the pipe from working loose again – and again, and again – so he decided to do something about it. He started with a simple concept: a bolt that would not work its way loose, even under extremes of tempera-

WeatherTech Celebrates American Industry, Workers Since its inception in 1989, American manufacturing has been at the forefront of WeatherTech® Founder and Chief Executive Officer David MacNeil’s mind. Believing that the unnecessary exportation of American jobs needed to cease, MacNeil set out to help reverse this trend. When founding WeatherTech, he actively chose to create a company that celebrates American industry and workers. “Made in America” is a mantra by which the company lives and has been a

driving force to further promote and inspire American-made consumerism. For the past 30 years, the core values of the company have laid a strong foundation that has allowed the company to flourish into what it is today. These values can be seen in every product developed, every facility built and within each and every dedicated WeatherTech employee. From product development to manufacturing to marketing, WeatherTech has 10 Illinois-based facilities that house all

Controlled Pyrolysis Cleaning Furnace from Pollution Control Pollution Control’s industrial cleaning furnaces (burn-off ovens) cover the entire spectrum of thermal stripping and heat cleaning technology. Safe and effective, they are capable of handling any combustible that can legally be removed with heat. Widely used in industry, Pollution Control burn-off ovens safely remove polymers, paints, powder coatings, adhesives, grease, insulation and chemicals from paint hangers and racks, engine blocks, electric motors, extrusion screws, breaker plates, dies, nozzles and many other metal parts and tooling. Virtually pollution-free, the company’s patented Controlled Pyrolysis® process eliminates all hydrocarbon emissions, and the use of

dangerous chemical strippers and other toxic materials. In today’s competitive manufacturing marketplace, production lines must be super efficient and pristine. Changes in process materials or colors, the build-up of polymers or simple routine maintenance require that equipment be thoroughly cleaned before it is returned to production. Repetitive manual cleaning will in time result in physical damage, not to mention injury to employees. Chemicals and abrasives may pose serious health and environmental consequences. Controlled Pyrolysis is a gentle process that extends the life of parts and tooling. Operating at 800-1,000 degrees

Aftermarket Daily News nent results, POR-15 also offers a wide variety of specialty paints and coatings to include POR-15 Top Coat, High Temp Heat Resistant Paint, Engine Enamel and Concrete Floor Armor. POR15 has designed effective and efficient product systems, kits and accessories for several applications and functions. POR-15 high performance coatings revolutionized rust protection. These state-of-the-art products form an impeneture. With his dog Eightball keeping him company, Bennett worked two days straight on the new idea. As many inventors discover, failure brings new ideas and persistence in trying new ideas brings ultimate success. After seven initial designs that did not work, he created an eighth option that worked perfectly. It was a simple solution – one that laid a locking wrench on to a grooved head of a bolt. This locked the bolt down so it did not work loose when the machine vibrated or when the metal became hot, expanded and then with cooling, contracted and shrank. Sadly, Eightball, who had been ever-present, resting on her bench in the workshop throughout the creation process, passed to the next world. He honored his beloved canine by naming his new com-

trable barrier that protects a variety of surfaces from water, chemicals, salt, UV rays, corrosive contaminants and everyday wear and tear. POR-15 products have been applied to vehicles around the world, from celebrated restoration shops to antique car museums and classic car shows.

pany Stage 8 Locking Fasteners, Inc. Safe, sturdy and steady, Stage 8’s locking header bolts are a boon to any industry. Bennett notes that although he is not launching any new products this year, he brought the company to the show to sign up new dealers and to demo the company’s current products to as many people as is possible. Bennet knows that Stage 8’s locking header bolts are the best on the market. The company also provides the best solution for Turbocharger fastening systems by utilizing the company’s Locking Turbo Fastener Kits.

branches of the company. Among the factories and warehouses where WeatherTech products are produced and housed sits the company’s modern headquarters, where ideas are brought to life. Just a few paces away, WeatherTech’s publicly accessible factory store can be found, which displays the best products in vehicle, home and pet protection, all of which are available for purchase. WeatherTech’s investment in American manufacturing never stops, as seen by the company’s 2019 expansion plan, which includes the construction of a new tooling building to keep up with the needs of this ever-growing company. The addition of this more sizable facility

means more machinery to produce more American-made solutions and importantly, more employment opportunities for locally based workers. WeatherTech takes immense pride in being able to continue to deliver on the promise that was made those many years ago. Fahrenheit, pyrolysis converts organic-based materials into a carbon-based smoke. The smoke is then passed through a 1,500 degree Fahrenheit afterburner, exiting the exhaust stack as odorless and harmless water vapor and carbon dioxide. Advanced control systems maintain a low oxygen atmosphere that fully protects the tooling being cleaned. It’s easy-to-operate self-adjusting controls reduce labor cost and machinery downtime, and its automatic time cycles ensure the oven runs only long enough to clean parts. The history of Pollution Control is the history of “burn-off” ovens. Peyton Simpson, the company’s Founder, designed his first burn-off furnace in 1970 for a neighboring business needing to com-

ply with new emission standards. The success of that first furnace launched Pollution Control Products Company in 1971. Today, the company is run by Peyton’s daughter, Jo Simpson, and Pollution Control is the recognized leader in the sales and service of burn-off ovens, with over 9,000 installations in 45 countries around the world. Pollution Control is eager to prove its capabilities. Send any metal part that needs to be cleaned and the company will run a test clean at no charge, and return the part to you to determine if its technology will be of value to you.

When the Going Gets Tough When the going gets tough, a work truck must keep going. Often, it’s the suspension that fails to go the distance on those really demanding jobs. The constant load of heavy equipment puts a major stress on a work truck’s suspension. These huge loads can damage the average leaf and air suspension. From Reactive to Proactive When it comes to maintaining a fleet of work trucks, there are basically two groups: reactive and proactive. One group is reactive. Those who

wait for something to break, and then deal with it. Their philosophy is “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” They will spend money only when it’s absolutely necessary. The other group is proactive. They don’t wait for problems to materialize. They act now to prevent them from happening. Why? Because they want their vehicle at the job site, not in the repair shop. ADAS: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems By Augustin Leung, Vice President, CUB Elecparts, Inc.

ADAS, what does it mean? What does it mean to you? ADAS is the acronym for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. The idea is that by providing a safe interface to the driver, roadway safety should be improved. The machines are helping us watch out for things that we may not see with our own eyes; they’re like the eyes on the back of our heads. But what does this mean to you? The general benefit is clear: we along with everyone else will enjoy safer driving conditions. Most accidents on the roads are due to human error, and nearly 10

percent of fatalities are due to distractions. But what it means is that we can help reduce these statistics; we are now enabled to promote and provide these technologies to the masses. Popular applications in the category for retrofit include Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Pedestrian Detection Systems and Traffic Awareness Systems. Many of these systems are easy to install and can be carried out by many DIY types. There are so many almost plug and play systems available in the market, you just need to know what makes a good system to make an informed decision on which one to buy. CUB, a manufacturer of ADAS products, is an example of a reputable brand that has not only desirable features and performance, but some of the best qual-

Thinking Ahead to Boost Efficiency and Cut Costs in Automotive Environments Now more than ever, there is a strong urgency for automotive organizations to establish industry leadership. The pressure to stay ahead of the curve and outpace competitors is at its peak, resulting in the need for professionals to prioritize innovation and operational excellence in order to stand out in the crowd. Thinking ahead to tomorrow’s solutions involves much more than just a forward-looking perspective. An in-depth look at a facility’s operations is critical to identifying where an organization needs to prioritize its efforts and drive more impact for the bottom line.

Higher Expectations, Better Performance Industrial manufacturers rack up an estimated $50 billion in unplanned downtime costs each year, some of which stems from outdated maintenance procedures and a lack of predictive intelligence (according to IndustryWeek and Emerson, “How manufacturers achieve top quartile performance”). Unnecessary costs can also trace back to inadequate monitoring of an organization’s operations, where it is common to overlook the key areas that ladder up to a company’s targets. It is also critical that automotive

Breathing Equipment to Protect Your Health SATA offers choices for full-face supplied breathing air protection. One of the newest options with a modern-design solution is the SATA air vision 5000. Every day, painters are exposed to solvents, sanding dust and overspray. As a consequence, it is of the utmost importance for painters to effectively protect their respiratory tracts as well as their heads including eyes, hair and skin. The SATA air vision 5000 breathing protection system consists of the supplied air respirator, and a belt unit, which allows for easy attachment of different add-on modules. Depending on the quality of the supplied compressed air, there

are two available options of air regulation units: either the SATA air regulator or the SATA air carbon regulator, which also includes an activated charcoal adsorber. With the SATA air warmer, SATA air humidifier and the SATA air cooler, there are three additional optional modules that can also be mounted on the belt to further enhance the breathing comfort for the painter. The breathing protection hood SATA air vision 5000 protects the respiratory system and the complete head area against solvents and overspray. The hood comes in a modern design offering maximum comfort and perfect fit. The head

industry leaders demand the same level of excellence across every level of an organization. More often than not, a facility’s priority areas tend to overlap with one another and a lack of attention to one can prove detrimental to the other. For example, Tork research finds that in industrial environments like manufacturing, 60 percent of workers find organization of work environment strongly influences their productivity, while 93 percent find it affects their well-being. Enhancing operational integrity is not necessarily about dramatically changing one area of operations to drive results – sometimes, it is simply making sure to check all the boxes that matter

Prioritize Efficiency and Reach Your Targets with Tork Tork has identified four priority areas that drive impact for reaching your targets, boosting workplace efficiency and even cutting costs: productivity, waste, employee and customer satisfaction, and environment, health and safety. Through its experts’ best-in-class expertise, Tork can offer you insightful recommendations on how to improve maintenance and workstation efficiency in your environment.

fixation can be adapted to fit every individual head shape and is easy to adjust. The soft stream flow-optimized breathing air and a large field of vision further enhance the high wearer comfort. The sound level inside the hood has been reduced to comfortable 64dB, while the field of vision has been enlarged by almost 50 percent compared to the SATA vision 2000. In addition, the SATA air vision 5000 is also equipped with a rigid bump cap, which makes working in areas of difficult access safer. The comfortably cushioned belt unit offers a user-friendly design. This belt unit includes two adapters for add-on modules allowing quick and easy attachment and removal, respectively the SATA air regulator and air carbon regula-

tor as well as the SATA air humidifier. Both add-on modules can be switched quickly from one side of the belt unit to the other – whatever the user prefers. In addition, the SATA air regulator and air carbon regulator can be swiveled and adjusted by up to 45 degrees, according to the practical requirements of the job at hand. The SATA air vision 5000 with belt, SATA air regulator and all other add-on modules have been NIOSH approved in the U.S and are available at your local SATA dealer.

AsTech the Leading Remote Diagnostic Solution to the Collision Repair Industry An interview with Jake Rodenroth, Director of Industry Relations, asTech.

ADN: With the rise of emerging technology in vehicles, why is it more important now than ever to properly research service information for each repair?

JR: Today’s vehicles are full of technology and require research to restore them to OEM standards properly. The vehicle structure and body substrates have changed and continue to evolve. Repairers should understand that systems like brakes, headlights and suspension have evolved and now have a new list of requirements and ever-changing repair procedures. Repairing mechanical,

collision and glass all demand focus and attention to detail. Diagnosing vehicles, programing network modules and calibration aren’t possible without the proper research of repair procedures and adequate tools. ADN: How does a mechanical vehicle repair differ from a collision repair?

JR: When a customer comes to you with complaints about a maintenance problem or known issue specific to that vehicle, you have some idea what the problem may be. Years of experience accompanied by the right tools can oftentimes lead to predictable repair strategies in the world of mechanical. Collision repair is unique, as there are no two collisions

Original Parts Group: Tribute It all started in the summer of 2018 while planning its 2019 media agreement with RTM Studios. What project did Original Parts Group want to be a part of in the coming year? The decision came fairly easy, and that was to restore a vehicle that had been awaiting restoration in the OPGI warehouse for several years and for the guys over at Detroit Muscle (Marc Christ and Tommy Bosher) to make all the final touches. The 1966 Lemans convertible was the vehicle that came to mind while it fine-tuned the agreement with RTM. The Lemans had been a part of the OPGI collection since the early 2000s, and after much discussion and internal brainstorming, it determined a Resto-mod GTO

Tribute was the way to go. To get the project underway, the car was completely disassembled to a frame and sent to media blast at Media Resurfacing in Huntington Beach, California. The blasting revealed that a fair amount of bodywork was needed to repair some lower-level rust and previous collision damage to the driver’s side quarter panel. The body, along with a multitude of reproduction sheet metal body panels, were sent to Santini Paint & Body in Westminster, California, where the metal finishing and repair was done. Once complete, the body was taken over to Imperial Beach Auto Body & Custom for a coat of PPG Marina Turquoise Poly paint. Prior to completing the paintwork,

Three Words that Spell Revolutionary Introducing three words that are revolutionary. By themselves, these three words aren’t revolutionary at all. In fact, they’re pretty ordinary. But when combined and processed into one simple idea, suddenly they’re extraordinary! What are the three words? Hollow. Rubber. Springs. More specifically, Aeon® hollow rubber springs – the heart and soul of every Timbren SES upgrade.

The Dawn of a New Bump Stop Timbren’s customer service department discovered that some of its off-road customers were looking for a solution. They wanted a solution to the harsh

response of the original (OEM) bump stops installed at the factory. Some of them were trying to use Timbren SES kits as an alternative to OEM bump stops, but with varying, sometimes notso-good, results. In an effort to help, the Timbren staff partnered together with these offroad enthusiasts to design a bump stop that allows for proper deflection of the suspension, while at the same time providing a dampening response – a softer landing – when the suspension bottoms out. The end result was the creation of Active Off-Road Bumpstops. Suddenly there was an easy-to-install, cost-effec-

The Winder Ratchet from Erickson Erickson has had its line of Re-Tractable ratchets for many years and they continue to be among its most popular tie downs. However, customers would like the benefits a Re-Tractable provides in a longer tie down. Erickson has finally found a way to answer this request with The Winder Ratchet. This revolutionary ratchet is 1 inch wide and 15 feet long with a 1,200-

pound breaking strength. It features a winder on the side of the reel that allows the user to quickly wind up any excess webbing. This makes the installation and removal of The Winder Ratchet quick and easy, just like the ReTractable. The Winder Ratchet also comes with some additional unique features that will make it stand out to your customers. The

Aftermarket Daily News alike. After an accident, its rarely clear which systems were affected, and without the proper research and diagnostic scan, you may find your customers finding errors in real-time traffic.

ADN: How can a collision center be sure that vehicle is repaired properly and in a timely manner?

JR: Today’s vehicles don’t always emit a flashing light or alert the driver when DTCs are triggered. Using aftermarket scan tools can create further issues and confusion by introducing phantom fault codes to the vehicle delaying repairs and prolonging cycle time. The only way to guarantee the fastest keys to keys time is to be a true professional and to research factory service manuals. When researching, OEMs will recommend the use of their factory tools to access all vehicle systems and functions the body and frame was split and the frame was sent to Newport Mesa Powder coating for a fresh satin black finish. While the car was away, the OPGI build team was hard at work gathering parts, organizing for assembly and working to restore any of the items that may not be available in the reproduction world. When the car returned from paint, the assembly work began. The car was outfitted with a long list of top-quality products available at OPGI. OPGI would like to give a special thanks to those contributing to the build, including Guaranty Chevrolet and Chevrolet Performance’s LS3 & 4L70E transmission, Holley Performance, Classic Performance Parts, Hotchkis Performance Suspension, Distinctive tive alternative for the off-road community.

When Factory Bump Stops Won’t Cut It It’s time you offered your customers an effective solution for their factory bump-stop woes; something to put an end to the harsh “slam” whenever their off-road vehicle bottoms out. Unlike the original bump stops that are already installed on the vehicle, easyto-install Active Off-Road Bumpstops are designed to absorb shock, softening the impact. The result is a smoother ride. And a smoother ride means greater control of the vehicle. They still get the wild expefirst is Erickson’s patented Cap Lock. Having the hook fall off the anchor point during installation is one of the most aggravating parts of using a ratchet. The Cap Lock solves this problem by keeping the hook on the anchor during the entire installation process and transport. It also has the ability to lock, so webbing doesn’t come off the reel at unwanted times. By holding the reel with one

ADN: Can anyone repair today’s vehicles?

JR: A true professional understands the vehicle they are working on and the associated processes, tools and training. The asTech® device connects you to an OEM diagnostic tool and ASE certified or dealer-trained technicians to help you identify diagnostic issues and DTCs pre- and post-repair, as well as preform non-ADAS related calibration. Stage 8’s Locking Fasteners Keep Things Working by Keeping Bolts in Place Stage 8 Locking Fasteners, Inc., (Stage 8) was founded in 1985 by inventor, Founder and President Bruce Bennett. Stage 8 manufactures and sells a patented mechanical locking fastener system invented by Bennett, which is impervious to vibration and heat cycle. The patented three-piece system installs easily and is completely re-useable. Customers have the ability to specify materials as well as plating for their custom applications. The company’s origin story sets the tone for the company. As Bennett notes on his website, just like many other motorcycle owners, he regularly worked on his own bike. One day, more than three decades ago, as he was replacing a new exhaust pipe, the pipe fell off – the

first day out of the box. He realized there was nothing preventing the pipe from working loose again – and again, and again – so he decided to do something about it. He started with a simple concept: a bolt that would not work its way loose, even under extremes of temperature. This locked the bolt down so it did not work loose when the machine vibrat-

consumer needs and is repeatedly looking to introduce new solutions and evolve existing ones in the marketplace. That’s why WeatherTech launched new CupFone™ with Extension earlier this year. As with CupFone, it conveniently fits in virtually any vehicle’s cupholder but offers an even greater range of motion for increased visibility and accessibility. The extension allows your mobile phone to be raised four inches higher and tilted four inches forward or backward so that you can find the optimal position from which to view your screen. ed or when the metal became hot, expanded and then with cooling, contracted and shrank. Sadly, Eightball, who had been ever-present, resting on her bench in the workshop throughout the creation process, passed to the next world. He honored his beloved canine by naming his new company Stage 8 Locking Fasteners, Inc. Bennett says that although he is not launching any new products this year, he brought the company to the show to sign up new dealers and to demo the company’s current products to as many people as is possible. He is seeking dealers, jobbers and wholesale distributors. Bennet knows that Stage 8’s locking header bolts are the best on the market. Drop That Rag! The Truth About the Auto Industry’s Most Outdated Cleaning Tool By Jenny Turner, Marketing Director, Industry, Essity

From the movies and even our own driveways, we have this idea of what cleaning a car looks like. Usually, an individual wipes down a car with an old t-shirt or rag, or walks around the shop with a used rental shop towel hanging from his or her tool belt. The underlying sentiment portrayed in these nostalgic scenes rings true for most automotive professionals: cleaning cars is about hard work, rolling your sleeves up and not being afraid to get your hands dirty. However, the fact that some automotive technicians are still using old rags or rental towels for important cleaning tasks is troubling. In reality, rags and rental tow-

els are an outdated solution for maintaining safety and cleanliness in a shop, and could be causing more harm than good.

Details, Details, Details For some automotive technicians, the tool used for a seemingly basic task like wiping, cleaning or polishing a surface may seem like a minor detail. However, using products designed for the task can save time and energy, improve safety and hygiene, and even cut costs. Rental towels and rags, on the other hand, can be used for several unrelated tasks – and pose many risks as a result. It is common to find leftover grease, solvents and even metal shavings on rental towels or buttons or sequins on rags, which are unwanted surprises that can harm workers and equipment or harm

have a 4,000 square foot shop and space is always limited. We decided to buy a 3D measuring system and after much investigation, we settled on the AccuVision-3D because of its simplicity, ease of use and huge time savings. Our backlog of 40 cars was cleared in less than a week and we were amazed at how quick our technician, Shaun Ings, mastered the system and now swears by it. “On a cost-benefit basis, price, though comparable to competitive brands, is not a factor due to AccuVision3D’s very fast payback period. We now

use it almost on every car for estimating as well as repairs. It only takes minutes what would take hours with other systems. We have the option to print or save the reports as PDF files and email to the insurer without creating paperwork. As for backup, from the outset, your technical department has been super responsive and professional by taking control of our system online and live to resolve any issues. Just a funtastic system!”

CUB Safety Introduction By Augustin Leung, Vice President, CUB Elecparts, Inc.

In today’s day and age, safety is one of the most used buzzwords in the world regardless of industry, profession or region. Safety is an important part of everyone’s life from waking up and not slipping in the shower, to the commute home and not getting in an accident. But what does it mean when we talk about it in the circles of consumer electronics, automotive, transportation and recreation? Who is responsible for the safeguarding of lives and our wellbeing? What is it that we can do to improve our chances to be safe, reducing the overall risk we take in daily activities? We’ll explore this with CUB, a manufacturer that designs and manufactures radar-based safety equip-

ment. Celebrating their 40th anniversary, CUB is a Taiwan-based company established in 1979 and has now grown to have a global footprint. This includes manufacturing in Taiwan and China, along with offices in the United States. “CUB has three primary pillars of business: electromechanical parts, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) solutions and radar safety products,” states Eric Ho, CUB’s Director of ADAS Development. “The radar safety product division is our newest addition to product portfolio beginning in 2016.” However, its team of experts brings decades of experience to the table with qualified personnel holding doctorate degrees, seasoned automotive experts and proven business professionals. Singsation Karaoke and Party Systems Dominate the Category Singsation Karaoke, a brand by Voxx Accessories Corporation, made a huge splash in the category in 2017 with its 5-in-1 Solo Deluxe microphone, and had national big box sell-through last year with karaoke systems ranging from $30 to $300. For 2019, it has announced even more innovation with five new systems, filling voids from $50 to $130 while keeping the massive pro model at $300. Singsation leads the category in professional voice tuning, the most

integrated sound effects and the largest room-filling light shows on board. Identifying the pain points of either buying karaoke music or subscribing to a service, Singsation took a different approach, making the smartphone or tablet the music source through free YouTube karaoke videos. Literally millions of lyrical tracks are available, and it keeps Singsation customers from having to buy any CDs or download and transfer videos into the machine.

CUB includes a plethora of safety solutions ranging from your basic Universal Blind Spot Detection (BSD) kit for passenger vehicles, to a high-resolution Pedestrian Detection System for school buses and everything in between. BSD systems are becoming mainstream and an available feature on many cars and trucks; nearly every model offers it in some way, shape or form. However, it is yet to be standard across all trim levels. CUB offers inbumper sensors for passenger cars, replacement integrated tail lamps for pick-up trucks, and custom mounts for specialty applications such as commercial vehicles, motorcycles and recreational vehicles (RV). BSD systems help drivers look over their shoulder when they’re not. With LED indicators and audible alarms, drivers are that much safer with an extra set of eyes

right where they need them. Specialty applications such commercial BSD systems, pedestrian detection and traffic awareness are also a part of the CUB portfolio with 77 and 79GHz radar products. CUB recently introduced a pedestrian detection system to monitor the danger zones around school buses, keeping children and adults safe during the loading and unloading process which is the most dangerous time. To keep our first responders and workers safe, CUB has developed a traffic awareness product which watches traffic and warns the police, refuse workers, road workers and the like before they are struck by passing traffic.

Quickly Identify Hidden Damage with The Matrix Wand An interview with Avery Hodge, Sales Representative, The Matrix Wand.

ADN: What would you say makes your company unique?

AH: The Matrix Wand is unique in a variety of ways. What stands out the most to me I think might get overlooked in the collision industry as a whole. Matrix is all about consumer safety when it comes to vehicle repair. The company has always pursued making the industry better as a whole, but we identify structural damage as a key issue as manufacturers begin to integrate more and more technology, especially ADAS, into their vehicles. All of these ADAS systems drivers have grown to love function based on the steering angle sensor and thrust angle

alignment. If the structure isn’t straight, these systems will not perform as intended, creating a dangerous situation for everyone on the road, not just the repaired vehicle. This should be alarming to every collision center in the country. The Matrix Wand is the tool that can scan the vehicle for structural damage to ensure ADAS systems work the way the OE intended after the repair. ADN: What are you doing this year that’s different from what you did last year?

AH: The Matrix Wand has made some extremely impressive progress since 2018. Our new partnerships and internal restructuring have allowed Matrix to offer solutions to more collision centers nationwide. We have also changed our

Dan-Am Air & SATA Improve Productivity & Clean Air Today’s clean air requirements are more critical than ever. Not only does clean air affect equipment performance, but it is also critical for paint coating performance. The Dan-Am Air system is reusable and easily adaptable to any space, not only ensuring safe, clean air for your team, but also increasing your shop’s efficiency and improving your business’s bottom line.

The Three-Stage Filtration SATA filtration is available in two sizes, which can flow up to 129cfm at 90psi – enough to accommodate multiple booths on a single filter. The SATA three-stage filtration system is simple: The first stage is the water separator, removing the droplets and particles down to 5 microns from the air; next is the fine filter which removes particles down to 0.01 micron; and finally,

there is the activated charcoal filter stage removing hydrocarbons, oil vapors and odors to give you perfectly clean air for breathing and spraying. Following that process along with changing your filters as recommended, and with no CO detected, the filter provides Grade D breathable air.

Dan-Am Air’s High-Quality Materials The system’s airlines are made of powder-coated, aircraft-grade, extruded aluminum. Dan-Am Air fittings are constructed of a reinforced nylon composite material, with a double nitrile seal. The manifolds and ball valves are nickel plated solid brass, and all threaded connectors are high grade steel. Dan-Am Air can be easily adapted to your current system with the variety of threaded connection options available.

product offerings by giving shops a variety of options to suit their individual needs. Adding multiple years of subscription upfront to save money and giving flexibility with the Blueprinting Station have been very well received by the industry. Shops who have been quoted in the past should definitely reach out to learn more about all of our changes and receive a revised quote.

ADN: Are you introducing any new products? If so, what distinguishes this new product from others already on the market?

AH: Yes, actually. People know The Matrix Wand for that crazy space-aged looking tool that they see online or at tradeshows, but really, the magic is in our software. Fenderbolt, which Matrix has spent the last 12 months building, is a state-of-the-art, cloud-connected platform for our Matrix Repair Analysis software. It

Modular Design Designed with simplicity in mind, DAA allows you to do it yourself. Measure, cut, de-burr, then simply “Press-to-Connect” – the direct result being lower installation times and costs. All fittings arrive pre-torqued for immediate assembly and pressurization, as well as being interchangeable, allowing for ease of future addition or expansion. The “Press-to-Connect” subject tends to be the most misunderstood instruction in the DAA system. We have all been taught to first loosen a given item, put it together and then tighten it. That is not the recommended installation procedure for DAA fittings. Do not loosen fitting caps before installation. It’s as simple as pushing the fitting onto the pipe until it is fully inserted. The only reason to loosen any given fitting cap would be to remove the fitting from the pipe. If a fitting cap is loosened and removed, simply re-torque the fitting cap

is really going to empower the body shop to utilize the wand much more effectively. Shops can measure an infinite number of points on every vehicle, which can then be stored in their reference library for future use. Technicians are no longer tied down to the predefined points dictated by the data provider. We always say, ‘if you can see it, the wand can measure it’; that includes measuring through solid objects like core supports. Shop owners and managers will even be able to track usage of the wand by user to ensure how and when the tool is used in their facility. Being cloud connected, the system will automatically update itself and introduce new features to current users quarterly, and there are some really big plans for the future of Fenderbolt as well. For more information, go to www.the matrixwand.com, call 785.823.8800, email matrix@thematrixwand.com or stop by SEMA booth #10979. to factory specs (line up the arrows) and press-to-connect. As each cap is individual to its fittings, the torque range arrows are either solid or hollow, and specific to their fitting and fitting placement. Fitting caps are not interchangeable.

Creating Efficiency, Saving Money The airlines and fittings have a “smooth, full-bore” design, where there are no restrictions. The air flows easily and quickly through with no leaks or contaminations.

The cost of a versatile system like Dan-Am Air can pay off quickly. It’s a simple, effective system, with a do-ityourself installation option. It saves time. It saves energy. It ultimately saves money.

Stackable Poly Tanks Changing Industry While trying to determine how much 5w20 oil was left in his inventory, John Kalthoff stubbed his toe against an aging, cumbersome 55-gallon drum in his shop, and smiled. Not the typical reaction you might expect from a strong-willed business manager. But John had a reason. “I knew I wasn’t going to do that again,” said Kalthoff, Manager of A-1 Rapid Lube. No more stubbed toes – or rusted 55gallon drums for that matter. John recently partnered with Rhino Tuff Tanks to provide A-1 Rapid Lube with stackable poly tanks to store and dispense the shop’s bulk fluids. In less floor space than three 55-gallon drums, he was able to assemble a stackable system, using three 120-gallon tanks on a gravity fed

dispensing stand. “I now have 360 gallons of storage, which only takes up a 3foot by 3-foot spot on my floor,” John explained with a grin. “That’s as good as money in my pocket!” Rhino Tuff Tanks are made from semi-transparent, high-density polyethylene and are available in six sizes: 45-gallon, 80-gallon, 120-gallon, 180-gallon, 225-gallon and 310-gallon capacities. Not only are they incredibly sturdy, they’re clean, simple and efficient. John’s drum nightmares are gone for good. “Handling those 55-gallon drums was no picnic. Round drums don’t fit effectively in rectangular rooms. Moving them has always been a hassle. Without proper training, pouring them can be messy, even downright dangerous,” John continued. “In addition, I never know when I was

Samson Go Mic Mobile – Adding Superior Audio to Smartphone Videos The rise of DIY YouTube channels, the social media explosion, video blogging, mobile journalism and electronic news gathering have led to a revolution in video content; content often self-produced on tablets and smartphones. While the pixel count, lens quality and processing power of smartphone cameras have reached dazzling new heights, the onboard audio quality hasn’t really kept pace. That’s where the Samson Go Mic Mobile comes in. Billed as the first Professional Wireless System for Mobile Video, the Samson Go Mic Mobile is an enhanced audio capture system created for today’s on-the-go producers. Combining proven microphone expertise and innovative

wireless technology, Samson has created an easy-to-use package that delivers a dramatic improvement in voice clarity and audio fidelity. Virtual Reality Sound: What is It? Why Do You Want It? By John Kasha, Chief Executive Officer of KAI Technology Inc.

We all hear sound differently. Maybe it’s background noise, or just enjoying the artist’s creativity either with their instruments or voice. Sometimes, we struggle to hear something creative in the mix we like and raise the

Inevitably despite my best planning, I would run out at the least convenient time and have to make an emergency call to my oil supplier to arrange a special stop for me outside of my normal delivery schedule. Those trips cost the distributor money and in turn drove up my oil prices.” Operational efficiency is the key to choosing Rhino Tuff Tanks, he said. “It’s changing the way I do business. I’m always on the lookout for ways to increase efficiency without adding overhead.” “Rhino Tuff Tanks represents the next generation of fluid management,” commented Jason Ramert, National Sales Manager, Rhino Tuff Tanks. “This design is superior to anything else in the market – not just in strength and durability, but

diversity as well. Because of the common footprint among sizes, any combination of our tanks stacks together – without conversion brackets. We are also able to accommodate dispensing via simple gravity feed, or airoperated pumps/reels. Eliminating specialty components frees up valuable working capital and warehouse space for us and our customers.” As for A-1 Rapid Lube, cutting down the cost of doing business is the name of the game. In doing so, it is also able to keep prices to its customers in check. In this extremely price-sensitive market, every penny helps.

This opportunity is consistent with our reputation of bringing the broadest range of top-quality innovative products for consumer and commercial applications to the automotive aftermarket since 1977,” said Bob West, President of Westin Automotive. In the coming weeks, Westin will be working on new Superwinch product programs, availability and marketing materials and looks forward to continuing existing relationships as well as

developing many new Superwinch customers in the future. Superwinch is joining a Westin Automotive product range that already includes Westin’s Sportsman X Grille Guard, which effectively combines aggressive styling with heavy-duty front-end protection. Engineered to provide both great looks and performance, Sportsman X’s unique design complements today’s larger grille designs and is available to fit most full- and mid-size truck applications.

YouTube marketing maven Derral Eves. Certified by YouTube for Audience Growth, Eves is a video marketing consultant who has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world. “I produce an enormous amount of video content, and this system is fantastic for conducting my one-on-one interviews. Plus, the Go Mic Mobile is simple to use, making it the perfect choice for any video blogger.” At the heart of the package is the Go Mic Mobile receiver. This compact 2channel wireless receiver delivers a clean, low-latency digital audio signal directly to any iOS device, smartphone, tablet or laptop via a single USB cable. Lightning, Micro-B and USB-C cables are included to ensure the proper connection. An analog output can provide signal to DSLR cameras and field recorders. The wireless design offers unparalleled levels of mobility, and eliminates unsightly wires from the video frame. Operating in the

2.4GHz wireless band, the Go Mic Mobile automatically seeks out the cleanest available channel to deliver a crystal clear audio signal, while achieving up to a 100-foot (line-of-sight) range. Adjustable bracket arms and/or hook-and-loop fasteners connect the Go Mic Mobile receiver securely to any smartphone or tablet. The tripod adapter and DSLR shoe-bracket provide additional camera-mounting solutions. Inside, the rechargeable lithium-ion battery keeps the system running for up to 13 hours. Samson USB microphones gave voice to the podcasting crowd, and its original Go Mic changed the face of VOIP and webcam communications. Now, with the Go Mic Mobile, Samson is set to revolutionize the way mobile content creators capture audio for video.

The m.e. gives your music depth, dimension and definition making your listening experience the best it can be. For example, you’re listening to a great song you have heard hundreds of times, but since the instruments or background vocals have been compromised for MP3, you don’t even realize you are

missing out on half the music. m.e. revives your music so you now hear more of the song’s original arrangements. Instruments suddenly appear in the mix, vocals pop, the music sounds alive. m.e. can be used on every piece of audio equipment in your life. From headsets to car stereos, home entertainment to in-flight infotainment, the m.e. will change the way you hear sound forever.

Changes in Lifestyle Means Changes in Security By Ashlee Campbell, Marketing Consultant, Alpha Guardian

Lifestyles have changed. People are now choosing to live in shared spaces, condos or other multi-family housing arrangements, retirees are downsizing and young homeowners are embracing “tiny homes.” These lifestyle changes have created a unique need for a secure place to store valuables, electronics and important documents that is unable to be met by traditional home safes. So, what has Stack-On done to meet this arising need? To answer that question, we sat down with Shelley Nehrt, Director of Product Categories for Alpha Guardian, to talk about the distinctive features of our new Total Defense Dual Home Safe.

For starters, the new Dual Safe offers two separate secure storage compartments; one compartment provides convenient, quick access to items used daily while the second area offers fireproof storage for valuables and documents used less frequently. “This new Dual Safe by Stack-On is the only safe on the market today that incorporates an external, auto open drawer in the body of the safe,” Nehrt said. “Other notable features include an internal light in the auto open drawer, an alarm that sounds after three incorrect entries, factory installed door storage for better organization and a spacious, fully carpeted fireproof area with adjusted shelves.” “The small footprint of the Dual Safe allows it to fit in a closet, bedroom

Waterproof Electronics: A Fairy Tale? Once upon a time, it was commonly known that the only way your mobile phone could possibly survive being dropped in water was to immediately turn it off, remove the battery and then place the phone in a bowl of rice overnight to dry it out. Flash forward several years and “waterproof” phones are the new standard. How can a device with so many openings and fragile electrical components possibly be waterproof? Smartphone manufacturers use a variety of sealing techniques to make sure all potential points of least resistance are watertight. Sometimes sealing is as straight forward as strategically using glue in the connection ports or to secure the glass to the phone. Areas like the cable connectors may use rubber gaskets,

while headphone jacks and charging ports use rubber rings to seal the enclosures. Smartphone buttons often have a silicon rubber boot to separate the button from the electrical contacts within the phone. On areas that need to keep water out but let air pass through, like microphones and speakers, manufacturers use a water-resistant breathable mesh fabric membrane to act as a pressure vent. Sometimes ports, like the charging port, can be protected from water electronically by being made of corrosion resistant metals and programmed to automatically shut off when not in use. These seals all need to go through rigorous quality testing. The most important type of testing for the waterproofing process is leak testing.

Save Power and Money with ReLamp LEDs The ReLamp LEDs are available in sizes for most common fresnels. In some fixtures, the reflector should be unscrewed to make room for the LED. The ReLamp LEDs work on the same AC dimmers as halogen. The light looks just like tungsten halogen, but

without the heat. It is also available in daylight. Both have very high quality color rendering. Regardless of how it is measured, the color looks right on all faces, makeup, wardrobe – just like the tried and true halogen. For a list price under $700, the

or other location aligning with today’s lifestyle trends. Available in two different sizes, 40 inches and 48 inches tall, the height of these safes provides a convenient drop off point for keys, wallets or other things typically carried in pockets or purses,” Nehrt said. “The flexibility of the Dual Safe lends itself to people who need secure storage that works for them.” Even after hearing about the innovative and beneficial features of the Dual Safe, you may still be asking yourself why anyone should consider safeguarding their valuables with a home safe. “Consider this: In 2016, there were over 750,000 burglaries in the U.S., with most lasting no more than 12 to 15 minutes,” said Nehrt, citing Pew Research Center. “In the past few years, sales of home security cameras, doorbell cameras and other security devices have explod-

ed. But why stop at seeing who is breaking into your home? Wouldn’t you prefer to have another layer of security that actually prevented an unwanted intruder from stealing what is most important to you?” In the end, it’s all about peace of mind and knowing that your valuables are safe and secure from unwanted intruders, friend or foe. As our lifestyles continue to change, so must our attitudes on security. We no longer live in a time where your money, credit cards, electronics, jewelry or other valuables are safe, hidden away in your sock drawer or in a shoe box.

LCD display. Once connected to the La Crosse View app, your alarm will display the day’s forecasted highs and lows, percent chance of precipitation, dynamic forecast icons and also allows you to post personal messages on your display, thanks to the powerful data stream technology. If none of the connected features sound interesting to you, no problem! The enhanced features are totally optional and your alarm will function as a standalone unit without connecting to the app. It is important to note that some of the coolest features of this alarm come from its connected capability. While these connected features are great on their own, the true power of this clock lies in its ability to add any compatible

La Crosse View add-on sensors. With or without the La Crosse View app, you’ll have the option to expand your system with numerous sensors for a complete home monitoring solution. From true backyard wind, rain, temperature and humidity data, to indoor water leak detection and more, you’ll be able to view this information right on your alarm’s screen. The add-on sensor information is also viewable on the La Crosse View app, so you can set alerts and track trends on the go. La Crosse Technology – bringing you the information that matters most to you…anytime, anywhere.

Waterproof smartphone manufacturers have dozens of leak testers, like ATEQ’s F28 lite, throughout their production lines to test the phone at various points during the assembly process. As each port is added to the phone, it can be leak tested with a differential pressure decay leak tester. This technology pressurizes the part with compressed air and measures the pressure drop, which would signify the air leak rate in that port. Once the phone is completely assembled and the screen is secured, it can be leak tested with ATEQ’s sealed component ingress leak testing method. By putting the completed sealed phone into an airtight chamber, the chamber can be pressurized with compressed air and the leak tester can measure if any air sinks into the phone. If a leak amount that is below the manufacturer-specified leak rate sinks in, the phone can be considered

airtight enough to be classified as being “waterproof.” So are waterproof phones really the fairy tale they seem to be? Depends on your fairy tale. There are limitations to the term “waterproof.” Typically it means the phone can survive droplets of water and being gently submerged in a few feet of fresh water for a decent amount of time. Degrees of waterproofness vary depending on pressure and corrosive chemicals. So while you can now confidently finish emails in the rain, listen to podcasts in the shower and release your fears of the previouslytreacherous toilet drop, don’t plan on tweeting while scuba diving deep in the salty ocean.

ReLamp 1K is what most have been waiting for. It’s certainly more than a halogen globe, but given the estimated 50,000 hour lifetime, one ReLamp LED compares to about $5,000 worth of halogen bulbs that would have to be purchased over that same 50,000 hours. A newsroom can now upgrade to LED with no downtime. The process of installing the ReLamp LEDs is only a

ASHA Continues to Promote Healthy Use of Popular Technology Recently, the American SpeechLanguage-Hearing Association (ASHA) launched the Healthy Communication & Popular Technology Initiative (www .communicationandtech.org), which encourages moderate use of popular technology. It focuses on providing practical advice to individuals and families to develop responsible popular tech habits; conducting communication health awareness campaigns that promote balanced use of popular technology; and exploring the impact of popular technology usage on healthy speech, language and hearing. These efforts are not anti-technology nor are they the first time ASHA has been

a national leader in the area of safe usage of popular technology. As far back as 2006, ASHA commissioned a large-scale national survey about the listening habits of teens and adults who used personal electronic devices that documented widespread misuse within both groups (ASHA, 2006). Media coverage was worldwide. For the next decade, ASHA encouraged safe listening through its awardwinning “Listen to Your Buds” campaign. Using a variety of tactics, including its safe listening concert series, which took place in elementary and middle schools across the country, the
