Greetings! I’m pleased to provide a listing of classes offered for the first quarter of 2013. This catalog covers courses available from January 1, 2013 through March 31, 2013. The courses which are currently scheduled are listed, however, keep in mind that additional courses may be added which will not be listed. Also, some classes may be rescheduled. I recommend that you continue to check our website for additions or revisions. I also want to remind everyone of the Oklahoma Fire Chiefs Association Winter Workshop and New Chief Officer Workshop. This is an excellent training opportunity for chief officers from both paid and volunteer departments. Call Oklahoma State University – Fire Service Training (OSU-FST) at 1-800-304-5727 to register for a class. Preregistration is required for all Fire Service Training classes. Registration will begin 90 days prior to the class start date. You may preregister earlier than 90 days for all NFA classes. All registration fee amounts quoted throughout this brochure are for Oklahoma emergency responders. Cancellation Policy All OSU-FST classes have a minimum number of students required to hold the class. These numbers vary with the individual classes due to safety considerations, activities, and efficient and economical use of resources. The student or organization representative that has registered a student for an OSUFST course must notify OSU-FST at least five (5) business days prior to the start of the course, that the student will not attend the course, to avoid being billed. The student or organization representative who registered the student will be issued a “cancellation” number when canceling the student out of the course. Classes that do not have a registration fee – The student or organization representative who placed the registration will be billed a $15.00 administrative fee if the student fails to attend the class he/she is registered for, and has not obtained a cancellation number at least five (5) business days prior to the start of the course. Classes that have a registration fee – The student or organization representative who registered the student will be billed the full registration fee if the student fails to attend the class he/she is registered for, and has not obtained a cancellation number at least five (5) business days prior to the start of the course.

Firefighter I Live Burn Length: 8 hours Outline: This course is designed to help students, who are taking field deliveries of Firefighter I, obtain the required live burn training contained in NFPA 1001. Course covers structure fire control, automobile fire control, exterior dumpster and piled materials fire control, fire extinguishment through loss control, and fire control using ventilation procedures. A Live Fire Evaluation will be conducted during this course. Structural Fire Scene Size-up Length: 4 hours Outline: This course addresses the concept of size up and its role in fire ground decision making. The course uses small group activities where students size up a variety of structural fire situations. Exterior Offensive Fire Attack Length: 4 hours Outline: This course addresses the exterior offensive fire attack strategy. Students will consider the advantages and limitations of this strategy; the impact of exterior fire attacks on fire behavior; and ventilation methods and fire streams which are used with exterior offensive attacks; the course uses small group activities where students evaluate a fire scenario, determine if an exterior offensive fire attack is feasible, and then develop a strategy for making that attack. Vehicle Extrication Basics Length: 16 hours Outline: Vehicle Extrication is designed to address NFPA 1006/1670 level which is the technical knowledge and skills necessary for fire/emergency medical services personnel to efficiently manage emergencies requiring vehicle extrication. The technical overview includes implementing and utilizing the incident command system, response to emergency calls, scene size-up, site control, scene management, identification of common hazards, safety considerations and vehicle design. Practical stations provide students with various stabilization techniques for all types of vehicle situations, patient assessment/protection/packaging/treating and removal, proper and effective use, care, and maintenance of manual and specialized equipment, as well as procedures for extrication of victims. *This course meets the requirements for NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Prerequisites: None Cost: $150.00 per person Schedule: 1) March 9th & 10th

Rope Rescue Fundamentals Length: 8 hours Outline: Ropes and knots are vital to the role of a firefighter. They are used to haul tools, accomplish rescues from various elevations, stabilize vehicles, and cordon off areas. This course provides firefighters with a solid foundation of the different types of ropes and knots that are used as well as the knowledge to rescue victims from lowangle environments. This course focuses on applying rope rescue techniques in technical and non-technical rescues. Skills taught are patient packaging, ascending, single and double line lowers, simple and compound mechanical advantage raising systems, and moving victims in the high angle environment. After completing the course the student will have met the sections required for Fire Instructor II in the National Fire Protection Association ® (NFPA®) 1041, professional qualifications standard.
