EDITORIAL
The guide you are holding in your hands will open the doors to a world that would take more than a lifetime to explore! Few cities in the world can offer such a wealth of history, such a natural setting, such a great climate and such a dynamic spirit all year round! And there’s even a vineyard, Bellet wines, all within the city limits! History is everywhere here. Our monuments, our museums, which range from prehistory to contemporary art, our squares and our streets bear witness to this: it’s an exceptional heritage that we have inherited and are proud to share. The 21st century is continuing the work that has already been done: as you will see, the cultural, gastronomic and artistic scene in this city has never been as vibrant as it is today! The richness of our history. The splendour of nature. Here, there’s the sea and its horizon, but there are also the hills and peaks, so close by, that beckon you to escape and daydream. And how can we not say a word about the light? If Nice is a city where people stroll, on the Promenade des Anglais and now on the Promenade du Paillon, it’s for all that they see and experience. When you come to Nice, you discover a city, but you also touch on a myth: that of the Riviera and the Côte d’Azur.
Welcome to Nice! Nissa la Bella! Our Tourist Information Office teams are waiting to welcome you!

The geography and history of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolitan area give it a unique identity, with its coastline, hills, valleys and mountains. From the shores of the Mediterranean to the peaks of the Mercantour, it offers an incomparable quality of life.
COASTAL AREA
Here, the natural splendours of the coast combine with the richness of its heritage... Its luminosity and sparkling beauty have always inspired the greatest masters, in fields as varied as architecture, painting, music and cinema. The unspoilt coastline is turned towards the Mediterranean and its pleasures: creeks, beaches and seabeds rhyme with sailing, water-skiing and scuba-diving. The towns along the way are bustling with activity by day and by night: gastronomy, shopping, culture, events - it’s all here! Authenticity and the art of living are the hallmarks of this multi-faceted region, which has reinvented itself over the centuries to become a forerunner in many areas: sustainable development, intelligent networks, research and innovation...
MID-COUNTRY
Not far from the shores of the Mediterranean, this region offers a haven of calm, freshness and serenity. The villages, nestling in lush green settings or clinging to the cliffs like eagles’ nests, offer visitors the chance to stroll through their charming lanes and discover a well-preserved heritage: old oil mills, facades, fountains, wash-houses and... at the turn of a chapel... a panoramic view over the valleys, the sea or the mountains. This unique setting, bathed in sunshine that exalts the colours, has seduced the greatest artists. Art lovers will be delighted to follow in their footsteps, in search of the works they have left behind. The surrounding countryside is a veritable paradise for sports enthusiasts, who can take to the hiking or cycling trails, or cool off in the deep gorges for a canyoning or rafting trip.
THE HIGH LAND
The Citadel of the Metropolitan area, with its mountain range culminating at 3,143 metres, nature has sculpted some magnificent landscapes here over the centuries. Villages built on the rocky slopes of the valleys offer the authenticity of a jealously guarded heritage. In summer, it’s the ideal place for an active holiday in the fresh air, renowned for the beauty of its lakes, forests, peaks and valleys... In winter, it’s a winter sports paradise, with its ski resorts boasting snow and sunshine... Quite simply, it’s a haven of calm and freshness, for an outdoor holiday in a setting of magnificent mountains!
