Let's focus on the first discipline in this process and particularly on 5 action steps to inspire people to do their best.
F I NALLY A BREAKTHROUGH
Adiscipline is defined as “the development and practice of meaningful and purposeful habits.”
A “discipline” is not a to-do list item that you check off and move on. It is something you embrace and embed in your leadership practice on a regular and consistent basis.
“Inspire” is defined as the discipline of reaching people’s hearts. Contrast that with “motivation,” which is
really appealing to people’s heads. Rather than trying to create transient material reasons to reach expectations, focus on connecting on a deep emotional level to inspire people to blow expectations out of the water and embrace a continual process of learning, growth, and higher levels of performance.
The biggest challenge encountered in guiding leaders on how to inspire others is the false assumption that to inspire, you need to do something grand. Too often you look for that uplifting speech, the compelling memo, or the occasional heroic act. All of this is fine when it happens, but inspiration should be a daily practice––and it more often takes on an unassuming form and is quite often unnoticed in the moment.
Here are the action steps…
#1 Lead by example.
There is nothing more inspiring to others than your example. It can mean you made a great, impactful speech or did something amazing, but more often it is what you do every single day. It’s what you do that people can count on.
Simply put, model the behavior you expect from others. Do as I say, not as I do does not work on children, and certainly doesn’t work with the people who look to you for leadership.
Make a list of the most important characteristics, behaviors, expectations, and traits you expect from your people. Make sure you check all the boxes on that list yourself.
#2 Show them you care.
And frankly, if you don’t care––don’t bother! Do you take the time to show a genuine interest in the people you serve?
This means understanding their personal goals, interests, challenges, and concerns. Carve time into your schedule to meet with reports––not just to talk business, but to develop a deeper understanding of them as human beings.
#3 Express appreciation.
How did you feel the last time someone thanked you for a job well done? On the flip side, studies show that a lack of appreciation, real or perceived, is one of the most common reasons given for disengagement or leaving a job.

Too often leaders lose the opportunity to share gratitude simply because there are too many other priorities at any particular time. Again––gratitude must be a discipline. #4 Share.
Leadership is sharing. A leader shares. Almost anything else you talk about regarding leadership centers on what you’re willing to share and how.
If you want to touch people’s hearts, there are some essentials you must share unconditionally.
Respect Trust Loyalty
By unconditionally, it’s meant with no expectation of return. Too often you’ll hear something like this: “I’ll show respect when that person deserves it.” No. you’re a leader––you go first.
First and foremost, Respect, Trust, and Loyalty are a leader's most important assets. What can you possibly accomplish without the respect, trust, and loyalty of the people you serve?
Now to get these things––you’ve got to give. You will not always get a direct return on your investment here. But again as you make sharing these things a discipline, you will inspire those who feel empowered by your expression of respect, trust, and loyalty. And in those cases where there is no return or worse, you will inspire people with your consistency, generosity, and courage.
Two other things that inspire people when you share:
Now these may not be unconditional. You need to manage how much power and authority you share, not to be proprietary, but to assure that you don’t set people up for failure if they’re not yet ready to take on more.
Having said that, power and authority only expand through sharing––unless you’re working all by yourself! The very act of trusting others with more power and authority is incredibly inspirational.
Make a list of what you’re willing to share and with whom. Then––do it!
#5 Give them time.
Everyone knows that the most precious commodity anyone has is time. Any moment you’re willing to give another person can inspire not only that person but others as they see your willingness to share your time.
Make sure it’s sincere. This not just time for time’s sake. Use this time to implement any or all of the other action steps on this list. More often than not, have an objective or goal in mind––though it’s not bad once in a while to focus more on showing a personal interest or just see what happens in the moment.
Again, this can be pushed aside in a busy schedule. It must be a priority to meet with the people you serve on a regular basis and give them some of your time.
Long ago Lao Tzu said:
“The wise man does not lay up his treasures. The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own.”
This is a powerful strategy for leadership. You’ll notice that every one of these action steps involves giving––sharing. What you are sharing as a leader, ultimately, is that you’re sharing your “self.” Sharing your true self with others is what leadership is all about. That’s what will most inspire others to share in kind. And as a leader your goal is to touch the hearts of many––not just one. That’s how you rally people together to advance the cause of the group.
And that’s a leader’s most fundamental job.

Difficult conversations are inevitable at some point in most people’s lives – despite their lack of popularity.
Avoiding them only leads to bigger problems down the road. The good news? With a clear framework, tough conversations can strengthen relationships, foster growth, and achieve better results.
This step-by-step guide provides a roadmap for navigating challenging dialogues with calm, empathy, and assertiveness.
Step One: Prepare Yourself
Before initiating a difficult conversation, take a moment to think about how you feel and why you need to have the conversation. What is the core issue you want to address? What are your goals and desired outcomes? Are you trying to affect a behavioral change, or do you simply want to be right? If the answer is the latter, you may wish to pause before starting a dialogue.
A well-formed goal statement is a good way to outline your intentions and keep your actions in check. For example, you might say to yourself, "I want to discuss the project schedule change that happened without my input. My goal is to be included in the future and find a solution that works for
everyone now. I’m not placing blame."
Step Two: Set the Stage
As the saying goes, timing can be everything. Given that fact, schedule a suitable time and location for the conversation. The goal is to ensure you have privacy and few distractions. For instance, you could say, "I need to discuss something important regarding the project timeline. Can we talk in the conference room at 2:00 today?"
Step Three:
Describe the Situation Objectively
Once you and the other person are together, it's time to explain the situation objectively. Stick to the facts without judgment or blame, and use "I" statements to express your perspective. “I” statements tend to reduce defensiveness and create an environment of mutual understanding.
Begin with "I feel" to take ownership of your emotions. Describe the behavior or situation objectively and without judgment.
Explain the reason behind your feeling.
Example: "I feel frustrated that the deadline was moved again without consulting me. I’m now task-saturated and unable to get my work project work and other work done by the new milestone. I understand there may be valid reasons for the shifting timeline, and I would appreciate being included in decisions moving forward. This isn’t the first time I’ve been left out of discussions. I would also like to see how we might adjust the current schedule."
Step Four:
Allow the Other Person to Respond
After you've shared your perspective, listen actively and allow the other person to
respond without interrupting. Additionally, ask clarifying questions to ensure you fully understand their point of view and validate the other person’s emotions and experiences. You might say, "I understand that speed was the goal. Can you tell me how I might be included in scheduling decisions in the future?
Step Five: Identify Common Ground
As the conversation progresses, look for areas where you agree or share similar goals. Validating each other's perspectives and emotions can help build trust and create a foundation for finding a mutually acceptable solution. Here is a detailed description of the various hair curl types:
TYPE 1 (STRAIGHT HAIR)
This hair type does not have any curls, it is straight hair.
Customer Tip: Straight hair tends to get oily quickly. Use a lightweight shampoo and conditioner to avoid weighing it down. Dry shampoo can be a lifesaver to extend the time between washes.
TYPE 4 (COILY HAIR) This type of hair is referred to as Afro-textured or kinky hair. It is naturally dry, and spongy in texture and can be fine, wiry, coarse or soft. This hair type experiences the greatest amount of shrinkage, and moisturization is essential.
4A- This type of hair has dense s-pattern coils that are the same circumference as a crochet needle.

Corey Daurham: I became a licensed barber in 2008, when I was laid off from my corporate job. At the time, we had one barber instructor, so I decided to become a licensed instructor in 2021. I became involved in ChaZap Inc by working hair shows and assisting with manufacturing the products with my father from 19962017. I inherited the business once my father passed, and we have been rocking and rolling ever since.
OTC: Your father, W.O. Daurham, started in the barber profession in 1975. How has his legacy influenced the vision and direction of ChaZap Inc.?
Corey : My father’s legacy has given me the drive to continue to provide a quality product with an affordable price for current and future barbers to use.
OTC: ChaZap Inc. is known for its diverse range of products, from Liquid Razor to Super Fast Hair Grow Spray. What inspired the development of these specific products?
Corey: Liquid razor came about after feedback from customers that wanted a crisp hairline but could not handle the sharpness of a razor blade. While some barbers still use the razor blade cohesively with the Liquid Razor, it was not designed to be used in that way. However, to much avail, barbers use the Liquid Razor how they see fit. The Super-Fast Hair Grow Spray was inspired to help black hair stay moisturized while maintaining the hair’s growth life.

Following the unveiling, a celebratory luncheon was held at City of Hope’s Visitor Center. Dr. Shami shared his thoughts and gratitude. "It’s a great honor," Dr. Shami remarked. "We will continue to support City of Hope. We share a [common mission]: to serve humanity. That’s where we meet; you provide the care, and we bring the beauty. Together, we will cure the world.”
The Farouk Shami Positive Image Center will offer essential services and CHI Power Plus products to promote hair growth following chemotherapy treatment. The center aims to help patients maintain a positive self-image during and after treatment by providing beauty and wellness consultations.

Fully rotate the AirGlide Pro and hold for 5 seconds, repeating until you've glided down the entire section. Rotate more for defined ringlets and less for relaxed waves.
Squeeze the release buttons or gently glide the hair through to reveal the curl.
To Curl Short Hair:
Start with a section 2" wide by 1" thick.
Firmly hold the ends of the hair with the opposite hand to create tension.
Squeeze the release buttons to open the plates and insert the sectioned hair at the root.
Slowly rotate the AirGlide Pro in either direction, rolling the entire section in. Hold for 5 seconds.
Squeeze the release buttons or gently glide the hair through to reveal the curl.
To Smooth & Straighten:
Start with a section 2" wide by 1" thick.
Firmly hold the ends of the hair with the opposite hand to create tension.
Squeeze the release buttons to open the plates and insert the sectioned hair.
Slowly glide the AirGlide Pro down the entire section to reveal straightened hair.
For added smoothness, use the opposite hand to hold the tip of the tool and firmly push the plates together.
