Cultural and Exotic Experiences For more cultural experiences, plan a trip to Tishomingo, the heart of the Chickasaw Nation and former seat of its government. Check out the Chickasaw National Capitol, where construction began on this attraction in April 1898. This Victorian, gothic-style structure is more than 8,000 square feet and was built in red granite from the Pennington Creek quarry of Chickasaw Nation Gov. R.M. Harris. Granite blocks weighing 175 lbs. per cubic foot were pulled to the capitol grounds by horses and mules. Today, the building serves as a museum and a reminder of how the Chickasaw people thrived in their new home after being forcibly removed to Indian Territory. Another attraction to consider when visiting Tishomingo is the Mulberry Wine Bar + Retail. Located downtown, this exciting venue features a variety of wine, a bubble bar, craft beer and Made-inOklahoma merchandise. For an outdoor experience, consider visiting Turner Falls Park in Davis. This attraction comes with a 77-foot waterfall and natural swimming pools for visitors to enjoy. Turner Falls has been a

recreational area since 1868 and is the oldest park in Oklahoma. The park is nestled within the Arbuckle Mountains and makes up 1,500 acres of beautiful foliage, rolling hills and rocky rivers and pools. The park grounds are home to local wildlife, picnic areas, hiking trails, campsites, caves and more. Outside the park, visitors can explore the Oklahoma landscape by horseback, courtesy of Arbuckle Trail Rides; let your horse lead the way with a guided stroll through the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains. Another unique attraction is Arbuckle Wilderness Park in Davis. This drive-thru safari is open year-round and provides an up-close-and-personal experience with exotic animals from more than five continents. Feed giraffes, ostriches, zebras and more from the confines of your personal vehicle, and watch as they roam similar habitats to their own within the Arbuckle Mountain area.

Take your hiking skills to a new level by exploring the three different caves located inside Turner Falls Park and the ruins of Collings Castle.

Grab your hunting and fishing licenses as well as park information at any of our tourism centers located in Davis, Sulphur and Tishomingo!

Family-friendly attractions can be found throughout Chickasaw Country, including an exciting new location in Ardmore. The Clubhouse is an entertainment venue including an arcade, go-kart track, miniature golf, Flight Line Zip, adventure courses, tree houses, Water Wars and an area for a seasonal ice rink.

N ORT HE AS T Keep this travel guide close by as you make your way through northeast Chickasaw Country. We’ve done our best to provide you with detailed information on some of the best destinations and attractions in the area. We hope our recommendations help create a well-rounded vacation for you and your traveling companions.

ATTRACTIONS

For a complete list of local activities, visit ChickasawCountry.com/Plan and prepare for your next adventure! Wintersmith Park

When was the last time you threw on some skates and went for a spin around the rink? Star Skate in Ada is a great place to bring your family and burn off some of that energy our little ones tend to hoard. Skating, however, isn’t just for the young and restless. Star Skate offers adult skate events, giving you the perfect opportunity to let out your inner child on date night. Rent a pair of rollerblades or traditional skates and laugh along with others [at your own expense] as you may end up with a few bumps and bruises before the night is over. Join the locals at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada as they come to watch their favorite stock car drivers battle it out in the dirt. With an insatiable need for speed, George and Clyde Welch turned the 42 acres of land they used to play on as kids into a fun haven for families to enjoy the thrill of dirt track racing. Opened in 1994, the clay, oval-shaped track is 4/10 of a mile with easy access to the highway. The stadium, big enough for more than 3,400 people, is filled with hundreds of racing fans and spectators each week. With two concession stands, guests can grab a snack and watch the races from some of the best seats in the house; pit passes are available to those looking for an up-close and personal point of view. Be sure to check the website for event information and regular updates. The gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. most Saturday nights through the summer (weather permitting). The Welch brothers promise to give you a show to remember and have worked hard to make Oklahoma Sports Park one of the best in the state. If you’re in the area and looking for the excitement of victory, grab a seat and cheer on these local thrill chasers as they work hard to take the checkered flag.

Summer Fun Another high-energy activity might include a visit to Wintersmith Park. Located in the historic district along 18th Street and Scenic Drive in Ada, the park features walking trails, basketball courts, a public amphitheater and a new aquatic center and sports complex perfect for all ages.

Food Truck Paradise Located at the east end of Main Street, you’ll find The Lot, a food truck paradise in the heart of Ada’s Arts District. Featuring outdoor TVs, a full-service bar, heaters, misters, outdoor yard games and music, this local hot spot is the perfect place to relax and enjoy food truck fare with your friends and family.

STAYS Enjoy the comforts of home at any of our overnight stays in northwest Chickasaw Country. Stay close to the action or enjoy life’s simple pleasures at one of our country-style getaways. No matter your preference, we trust you’ll find the perfect place to lay your head.

Check into Lindley House Garden Cottages in Duncan if you’re looking for peaceful solitude or a romantic getaway. This landmark home was built in 1939 by Dr. E.C. and Helen Lindley. The home changed ownership in 1996 and was converted into a beautiful bed and breakfast. Today, the main house is a private residence, and the three outlying cottages are available for rent. Nestled within a quaint garden setting, these English-country chalets are the perfect blend between elegance and comfort. Enjoy a gourmet in-room breakfast, oversized jetted tubs, high-speed internet, private patios, comfy robes, king-sized beds and more. Not only does Lindley House Garden Cottages provide a relaxing atmosphere for guests, but its central location makes it easy for travelers to experience some of Duncan’s popular points of interest. Get away from the hustle and bustle of city living by visiting Hat Top Ranch in Velma. This rustic retreat can accommodate 14 guests with four

separate bedrooms, four bathrooms and a large kitchen. Guests can enjoy the great outdoors with a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, hiking and more. Watch for birds and other wildlife such as the common whitetail deer or the more exotic kind, including the sika, fallow deer and oryx. Sip a steaming cup of coffee as you watch the sunrise from your porch and remember to bring your roasting skewers for a campfire party with your friends and loved ones at the end of the day.

For a boutique bed and breakfast experience, visit Rosewood Inn, located in the charming downtown district of Rush Springs. Originally built in 1910 to support an active railroad, careful attention to detail was given during the restoration of this historic hotel. Guests can choose from a variety of elegantly decorated suites and enjoy a full-service breakfast served atop ornately decorated china each morning. Read a book, meet new friends or enjoy quiet conversation in the parlor area and be sure to stop and smell the roses with a peaceful walk through the English garden. The Rosewood Inn can also be rented as a private event space perfect for intimate weddings, showers, anniversary parties, birthdays, business meetings, fundraisers and more. Lindley House Garden Cottages

Born and raised north of Velma, brothers Zac and Adam Pogue are the proud owners of Hat Top Ranch. Previously owned by a company out of California, these fifth-generation ranchers decided to buy the ranch as grazing land for their cattle and turn it into an event venue and active hunting lodge for the avid outdoorsman. Thermal hog hunts, whitetail deer and turkey hunts are available in season, with exotic animal hunts available year-round.
