Additionally, bike and running trails along the river are open and free to the public. Whitetail deer, beaver, egrets, cormorants and hundreds of species of migratory birds and waterfowl move through Stinchcomb regularly. This cultural and entertainment district is home to the First Americans Museum and the much-anticipated OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark, slated to open in Spring 2025. All About that Brunch Brunch is the best meal. Why? It can be anything you want, from waffles to burgers, it’s never rushed and you can dress up and go fancy…or roll into a lowkey booth with bed head. A glass of bubbly or a cinnamon roll the size of your head? Yes. Great big pile of bacon and a double espresso? Yes. Brunch is leisurely, lazy, decadent and easy. PLANT BASED
the Cowgirl Benedict
Red Cup. Since 1995, The Red Cup on North Classen has been serving up vegetarian goodness in the form of breakfast, lunch and brunch. You won’t find any cocktails here, but you will find an artsy scene with indoor and outdoor seating, a friendly rooster and crazy-good food. We love the Vagabond: potatoes, broccoli, onion, peppers, tomatoes, tofu scramble and cashew cheese sauce. Picasso Cafe. With a robust vegan and vegetarian menu, lots of meaty menu items, great coffee, top-notch cocktails, excellent mocktails and a ‘Doggie Dining’ menu for your fur babies, Picasso Café checks all the boxes. After brunch, stroll the Paseo and do a little window (or actual) shopping.
Cheever’s
THE CLASSICS
Cheevers. Crème brulée French toast anyone? How about a Cowgirl Benedict – that’s chicken fried steak, fried egg, red chile hollandaise and avocado – alongside a uniquely crafted weekly ‘Brunch Punch’ cocktail and a lovely cup of coffee, followed by banana bread with maple-cinnamon butter…followed by a nap! Flip’s. Anchoring the corner of NW Grand and N. Western Ave since 1985, Flip’s is the kind of place you’ll want to bring a date and your Sunday paper, the novel you’re reading or a crossword so you can soak in the full experience. A well-honed ‘Red Sauce Joint’ by night, Sunday brunch at Flip’s is all about the gorgeous French toast, well-poured Mimosas and crisp-perfect bacon. La Baguette. N. May Avenue is home to the Buthion brothers’ 30+ year old bistro, inspired by their father’s boucherie in the South of France. Brunch at La Baguette is perhaps not as casual as some other spots but its Omelette Royale – Boursin cheese, smoked salmon, onions and asparagus – is well worth running a comb through your hair and pulling on some non-sweatpants. The Chalkboard Kitchen + Bar Oklahoma City. In the space that formally held Cafe Cuvee comes iconic eatery, The Chalkboard Kitchen + Bar. Although new to OKC, this concept is well vetted and well placed in Midtown at the Ambassador Hotel. Indulge in the legacy with favorites like Chalkboard Wellington, Lamb Lollipops and Bread Pudding. Experience the approachable menu daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
Plant. Vegans rejoice! Everything at Plant is gluten-free, dairyfree, soy-free and peanut-free. Oh, and meat-free. And delicious. Oh, and you can show up in your yoga pants! The avocado and kimchi toast keeps us coming back. Like everyone else in OKC, we’re also partial to the perfect banana pancakes, topped with excellent maple syrup and a dollop of almond butter. Plus, the cocktails and mocktails here are on point.
GIVE ME ALL THE PASTRIES
Kitchen No. 324. Three words: Maple French Cruller. Three more: Mixed Berry Danish. For you savory peeps out there, the Smoked Cheddar Jack Sausage Roll is definitely worth getting out of bed for. McClintock Saloon and Chophouse. When you just need a huge, HUGE delicious meal, ‘The Cattle Baron’ platter at McClintock will treat you right. It’s top sirloin served with two eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy and home fries. Did you smile just reading that? Head down to the Stockyards this weekend and see what we mean. Cattlemen’s Steakhouse. You won’t find an official brunch menu on the website, maybe because brunch wasn’t a thing when Cattlemen’s was founded in 1910, but rest assured there’s a robust breakfast menu and an equally well-appointed lunch menu, plus coffee and cocktails so…from where we stand that’s as good as brunch!
LEGENDARY
Café Kacao Cocina Latina. You can’t talk about the OKC brunch scene without the multi-award-winning delights waiting for you at Café Kacao. If you’ve never had fried plantains as a brunch side, friends, you are in for a treat. Start with a horchata latte or kick it up a notch with a horchata rum latte! Next, go for the Cuban omelet, filled with jack cheese, whole black beans and topped with mojo shredded beef and onions, or go classic with a huge plate of chilaquiles. You literally cannot go wrong. Jimmy’s Egg. An Oklahoma original if ever there was one, there are locations dotting Oklahoma City, so you’re never far from a great brunch. Jimmy’s Egg has been making mornings bright for more than 35 years. Try a classic like corned beef hash and eggs or go a little crazy and enjoy a stack of cinnamon roll pancakes. Waffle Champion. The wait is worth it. Don’t despair if you roll up to Waffle Champion and see a line, it moves fast and the hot chicken waffle sandwich is such a perfect amalgam of sweet, savory and heat, it will make you forget your name. 7. Chef Andrew Black received a James Beard Award (Best Chef Southwest) in 2023 for his tasting menu concept Grey Sweater. The prestigious award was the second for an Oklahoma City restaurateur; Florence Jones won an American Classics Award from the James Beard Foundation in 2022 for her Soul and Southern food institution on Oklahoma City’s northeast side, Florence’s Restaurant. While locals have long known how exceptional our city’s food scene is, over the past few years national media have also discovered the excellence and diversity of our culinary landscape.
Florence’s Restaurant. The daughter of sharecroppers from Boley, Oklahoma has operated her eponymously named restaurant since founding it in 1952, when she was 22 years-old. Known for their yammed fried chicken, turkey neck bones, chicken and dumplings and pear pie, the concept has been a destination for decades, both for residents of the northeast side and legislators from the nearby Capitol. Florence’s daughter Victoria Jones oversees operations these days, but you can still spy Florence in the kitchen occasionally. 40

Frida Southwest. Known locally for their overall excellence, this Paseo Arts District concept received a James Beard Award nomination for Best Bar Program, largely thanks to the impeccable palate of operating partner Kim Dansereau. Chefs Quinn Carroll and Rachel Porter deliver a remarkable one-two punch of appetizers, entrees, brunch and desserts. Porter is easily one of the best pastry chefs in the state, and Carroll is one of the brightest young stars in the OKC food scene. Dansereau has built the city’s most popular wine list, and her ability to hire stellar, creative bartenders means that every aspect of Frida – from first cocktail to dessert – is a lovely dining experience, especially if the weather is right for their gorgeous patio. Grey Sweater. Chef-owner Andrew Black likes to talk about his fine dining, tasting menu concept Grey Sweater as a place that has no particular loyalty to “how things should be done.” Instead, he and executive sous Chef Dylan Morgan source products from all over the world to create what can only be seen as a culinary adventure. The beautiful surroundings – including stunning lighting from the London underground – contribute to the feeling that you’re in a place designed for discovery and delight. From roast squab to beautifully prepared turnips to bison or scallops, caviar and wine, the menu is eclectic, delicious and presented in gorgeous tableaus. Ma Der Lao Kitchen. Chef-owner Jeff Chanchaleune was a semifinalist for Best Chef Southwest in the same class as Chef Andrew Black. It was the Lao chef ’s second nomination for the honor, and the closest he’s come to winning. The nomination seemed certain after Chanchaleune’s traditional Lao concept was included on Bon Appétit’s 50 Best New Restaurants for 2022 and the New

nonesuch. Back in 2018, the Midtown tasting menu concept nonesuch received an amazing accolade: Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant in America. Nonesuch focuses on locally sourced ingredients to create brilliant, balanced tastes that feature the best of Oklahoma, including foraged ingredients and proteins from local ranchers. If it doesn’t grow or live in Oklahoma, it doesn’t go on the menu, and that guarantees freshness, accountability and a worthy homage to our state’s agricultural workers. Sedalia’s
York Times’ annual The Restaurant List, a compilation of their 50 favorites from around the country. Chanchaleune has managed to translate rustic, traditional Lao cuisine for Oklahoma City diners, including crispy rice salad (nam khao), Lao sausage (sai oua), spicy, delicious pepper sauce (jaew bong), some of the city’s best fried chicken and what the locals call “beef jerky.” As an added bonus, Chanchaleune’s sister Jeslyn helms one of the city’s best bars, with brilliantly crafted, Asian-inspired cocktails to pair with the cuisine. nonesuch
Sedalia’s Oyster & Seafood. For the second year in a row, Oklahoma City has a restaurant on Bon Appétit magazine’s The Best New Restaurants list, a prestigious selection of the best new restaurants in the country. This time it’s a California-fresh seafood meets traditional Bolivian cuisine joint on N. May near NW 10th. Owner-operators Chef Zack and Silvana Walters chose the unlikely location after returning to OKC during the COVID shutdown. He was a successful Los Angeles chef-owner, and she had built a reputation as an excellent front-of-house manager at a handful of Michelin Star restaurants in New York City and L.A. Chef Zack’s family has owned a playground equipment company for more than fifty years, and it was one of their buildings that the Walters retrofitted to be a small restaurant with brilliant seafood, like raw and roasted oysters, a variety of crudos and conservas, anticuchos and a life-changing loaf of focaccia. The menu changes every week, depending on availability; he refuses to serve anything but the freshest seafood, and the commitment pays off when you taste the octopus anticucho, hamachi crudo or raw scallops, to say nothing of the remarkable oyster selection each week. The wine and cocktail list are necessarily small given the size of the building, but the Walters both have stellar palates, meaning you’re getting a sampling of the best wine and spirits available in the state. visitokc.com

Start your tour in Automobile Alley at Skydance Brewing Co., a Native American-owned microbrewery. Skydance celebrates their heritage through the art and stories they tell on the branding and packaging of their products. Fancy Dance, a dry-hopped hazy IPA, is a must try! Walk a block over to Prairie Artisan Ales for a delicious Rainbow Sherbet or the Prairie BOMB, a stout known around the world! Just a few blocks to the west is Vanessa House Beer Company. Their top seller is the 401(k) Cream Ale, named after the owner’s experience of putting their own retirement funds to create the beer – which paid off! The next brewery is located in Bricktown. Pop into Bricktown Brewery and try the Blues Berry Ale fruit beer. Bricktown Brewery is a traditional American brewpub, offering some of the best handcrafted, local beers around. Afterwards, stop at one of OKC’s most popular taprooms, Stonecloud Brewing, located in the beautiful, historic Sunshine Laundry building. Order the Neon Sunshine, a Belgian Wit and crowd favorite. Make a stop at Fair-Weather Friend Brewery for the Northern Flicker and delicious wood oven pizza. Angry Scotsman Brewing offers several different styles of beer. This laid-back coffee shop in the up-and-coming Britton District creates chocolate treats in house and sources only the highest quality ingredients. Eote, which stands for end of the earth, is a small batch coffee roaster and coffee shop in downtown OKC. We all know that the world’s best coffee comes from some of the hardest to reach places, so Eote truly travels to the ends of the earth to source the finest coffee.
Junction Coffee pops up in a different location every day. Their bright red double-decker bus houses a mobile café that roams the city day to day. Sit and enjoy a cup of coffee on the bus, lovingly known as “Maebelle” to owners and customers. They also have a location on Automobile Alley if you’re in the area. At their brick and mortar, baristas let you pick your own mug from their quirky collection. Willow Coffee Company brings a whole new level of creativity to coffee. They serve craft coffee by incorporating seasonal flavors to the menu. Shaken espressos, cold foams and house-made, seasonal syrups create their unique coffee drinks. THE MINDFUL TRAVELER
As you experience our destination, here are a few ways you can honor our people and places:
Every destination has a story and OKC’s began with several tribal nations who have always inhabited this special place, long before it was officially a city. Our complex past also includes being the “Unassigned Lands” during the period when indigenous tribal nations were forcibly moved to the west. A land run in April 1889 created what we now know as Oklahoma City. This layered history can’t be captured in one piece of art or a single exhibit, so we hope you’ll take the time to learn and understand inclusive viewpoints of how our past is woven into the fabric of who we are today. When visiting cultural destinations throughout OKC, please be mindful of sacred spaces or traditions that may not be for public access. If you aren’t sure, just ask and our friendly residents are happy to help.
SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability refers to doing business without negatively impacting the environment, community or society as a whole – kind of the gold standard for doing business.
In 2009, the City of Oklahoma City officially launched its Sustainability Office and drafted and passed its first city-wide sustainability plan in 2020. Local businesses, including coffee shops, fine dining, retail, spas and more have embraced sustainable business models. As you visit OKC, we encourage you to be aware of the sustainability initiatives throughout our city: • One of the more unique, win-win sustainable services, the Downtown OKC Green Team, is a clean and safe program for the downtown area. One of its key responsibilities is providing supplemental cleaning and safety services within Midtown, Bricktown, Automobile Alley, Deep Deuce, West Village and City Center Districts. If you see an area of downtown that needs attention, call the Green Team at 405-240-1944. • OKC’s revitalization has included environmental stewardship that has transformed former EPA Brownfields sites into vibrant green spaces and attractions. The Bricktown Entertainment District, Skirvin
Hotel, Scissortail Park and First Americans Museum are all examples of formerly degraded areas that have been restored into stunning new experiences for locals and visitors alike. Please help us keep these areas beautiful by staying on marked paths and taking trash with you when you leave. • Whether looking for a souvenir or your next meal, use the resources in this guide and on VisitOKC.com to find independent, local retailers and restaurants. Supporting local businesses not only helps our destination keep its uniqueness, but also gives you access to only-in-OKC experiences that are the stuff of lasting memories.
Accessible OKC
