Oklahoma’s vast natural resources make it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, especially anglers. The state’s waters are home to a diverse number of fish species, including favorites like bass, crappie and catfish along with more unique species like the paddlefish. Oklahoma has more miles of shoreline than the East and Gulf coasts combined, and along the state’s banks, anglers will find numerous amenities to make fishing trips easy and enjoyable. Oklahoma hosts several fishing tournaments each year that draw big-name anglers and thousands of fans. Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees and Lake Texoma, both Fishing Trail destinations, are consistently ranked among the country’s best bass lakes by Bassmaster magazine. Grand Lake has twice hosted the Bassmaster Classic and is hosting REDCREST 2021, the Bass Pro Tour championship.

Licenses and Regulations Those wishing to fish in Oklahoma waters must have a license. Licenses can be purchased online and are also available through more than 700 license dealers around the state. These dealers include sporting goods stores, bait shops, convenience stores, large discount centers and other businesses. For more information, visit www.wildlifedepartment.com/licensing. Some municipalities may also require a fishing permit. Anglers should familiarize themselves with the state’s fishing regulations. A copy of the official Oklahoma Fishing Regulations Guide can be viewed by visiting www.wildlifedepartment.com/law.

The Oklahoma Fishing Trail is designed to highlight the best of Oklahoma fishing. It’s organized into six loops, one for each region of the state. Within each loop is an all-around lake and several locations selected for one or two standout species.
