OTTERBEIN THEATRE & DANCE
Ik CREATING ^ THE FUTURE 2019-20
SEASON
Welcome to the 2019-20 Season! As the new chair and producing artistic director, I invite you to join me for the next exciting season of Otterbein Theatre & Dance! Although new to this role, my history runs deep with Otterbein. As an alumnus, I was a student under Chuck “Doc Dodrill, was hired to teach by Dr. John Stefano, and was honored to serve alongside Christina I'irk. I am both proud and humbled to follow in the footsteps of such great leaders. Since lighting designers do not appear on stage, you probably do not know my face, but you have seen my work in Otterbein shows including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Adding Machine: A Musical, and The Diary of Anne Frank. Additionally, audiences have seen my lighting on Broadway, Off-Broadway, at the Metropolitan Opera, and in countries such as England, Italy, China, and Australia. I look forward to building relationships with this great community and sharing countless evenings of great theatre with you. The 2019-20 season explores the quest for fame and fortune through two award-winning Broadway musicals; a classic comedy that is uncannily resonant today; a revival of some of our most popular dance concert performances; and an engaging true story of the rush to commercialize a new, but dangerous, scientific breakthrough. Get ready to experience theatre that will delight your eyes, get your toes a-tapping, pique your mind, and tickle your funny bone! The experience of theatre is the experience of community. You are a vital part of the art we create and we delight in sharing the talents of our students with you. Come see them before they are on the Broadway stage or your favorite television show; before their performances, designs, and craftsmanship are showcased on a national level. Come be entertained. Come have your mind and imagination sparked. Join us for the 2019-20 Season!

and fortune are on the agenda. Roxie Hart has been convicted of murder in what she considered a crime of passion, but, even in the darkened cells of death row, she finds opportunity as she vies for the title of this week’s celebrity criminal. This
razzle dazzle tale of greed and corruption is filled with hit song including “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango” and will be choreographed by our own Stella Hiatt Kane, a former dancer for the legendary Bob Fosse. “C/7/cago” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH,

December 5-8 Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall After seven years, Kathy Bartelt, Maria Glimcher, Stella Kane and Tammy Plaxico join together again to restage some of their favorite choreography. The first pulse of man leads to complex and passionate human connections, a universe can be hidden in a breath and in the collective breathing of a family, and life can be joyful, loving, and wonderfully rhythmic with a decidedly romantic and playful beat. This collection of favorites includes selections from Pulse, Beethoven to Broadway, To Each His Own, Trip the Light Fantastic, Spotlight, Gotta Dance! and Broadway Babies. “And it begins...

Feb. 13-16, 20-22 Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall The London gossip scene is buzzing. Masquerading behind the veneer of polite society, malicious prattlers trade gossip like gamblers and ruin reputations for sport. As much as we are all familiar with reports of lies, rumors, backhanded comments, and fake-news, this is 1777 England, and the
newspaper industry is just getting started. Two brothers are tested for their trustworthiness by their wealthy uncle amidst a myriad of hilarious twists and subplots involving a crazy cas1 of characters Including Lady Teazle, Lady Sneerwell, Surface, Backbite, Snake, and more. In what is often considered one of the best comedy of manners plays, deception is rampant, but virtue is still supreme.
