BIOGRAPHIES 1BliOGRAPHli1ES T.J. Gerckens (Chair, Producing Artistic Director) is the lighting design faculty member at Otterbein University, a USA829 Union Lighting Designer, and proud Otterbein alumnus. At Otterbein, he has designed the lighting for Chicago, Snoopy!!!, Oklahoma!, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Diary of Anne Frank, Adding Machine: A Musical, Damn Yankees, Dance Concert 2016: The Goddess, The Crucible, Fiddler on the Roof, Dance Concert 2015: Famously Yours...Forever, Dance Concert 2014: Tell-Tale Poe, and Into the Woods. As a freelance lighting designer, T.J. has been part of the design team for the Tony Award winner and MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Mary Zimmerman for the last 24 years. Most recently, he designed lighting for The Music Man at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Mary Zimmerman’s world premiere of The Steadfast Tin Soldier at Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre, last year’s revival of Metamorphoses at the Guthrie Theatre and Berkeley Rep, and Rusalka at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC. Other notable designs include The Odyssey at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Wonderful Town at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Guys & Dolls in L.A., and Treasure Island at the Lookingglass Theatre and Berkeley Rep. His lighting designs have been seen at regional theatres across the United States, on and off Broadway, and at the Metropolitan Opera. Internationally, he has designed in England, Australia, and at the LaScala Opera House in Milan, Italy. He has received numerous awards for his designs including New York’s Drama Desk Award and Lortel Awards for his lighting of Metamorphoses on and off Broadway, Jefferson Awards for The Odyssey and Metamorphoses in Chicago, and an award for “Exemplifying the Art of Collaboration” given to the Zimmerman design team by Entertainment Design Magazine. You can see his designs for Lucia di Lammermoor and La Sonnambula on DVDs released by the Metropolitan Opera. T.J. holds a BFA from Otterbein University and an MFA from Boston University. He is married to set designer, scenic artist, and Otterbein adjunct instructor Stephanie R. Gerckens.


BIOGRAPHIES 1BliOGRAPHli1ES Thom Christopher Warren (Director) is currently in his third academic year at Otterbein, having come directly from the Broadway production of Disney’s The Lion King. During his short time at Otterbein, Thom has directed Thoroughly Modern Millie, Big Fish, and classroom projects of Sweeney Todd, The Toxic Avenger, Title of Show, and the past two seasons’ Launch performances. Thom will be directing A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder in the spring. Broadway/Regional favorites include: the Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress, Peter and the Starcatcher at Theatre Aspen, the world premieres of Bruce Sussman and Barry Manilow’s Harmony at La Jolla, and Babes in Arms at the Guthrie, and more recently Dan in Next to Normal and Harold Hill in The Music Man at the Porthouse Theatre, Tateh in Ragtime at Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre and, more locally, Albin/Zaza in La Cage Aux Folles and Charles/Berthe in Pippin at the Short North Stage. Many thanks to LK and Stella, and of course the extraordinary class of 2020! Lori Kay Harvey (Music Director) is in her 13th year as a member of the musical theatre faculty at Otterbein. She has music directed over 35 shows in central Ohio and throughout the US and has performed extensively as an actor/ singer/ dancer on both national and international tours and in numerous regional theatres. Recent Otterbein credits include Chicago, Singin’ in the Rain, Big Fish, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Adding Machine, Damn Yankees and The Addams Family. Tour credits: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease. Regional: Next to Normal, Beauty and the Beast, Jekyll and Hyde, The Taffetas, Camelot, The Who’s Tommy, Damn Yankees, Brigadoon, Carousel, The Desert Song and The Good War. Stella Hiatt Kane (Choreographer) is the Director of Musical Theatre and Director of Dance at Otterbein University and the founding Artistic Director of JazzMet. Ms. Kane has been a member of the national companies of Sugar and Bob Fosses’ Dancin’ and a member of the national and international companies of The American Dance Machine. She has made television appearances in productions such as PBS’ “Dance in America” and “The Ann Reinking Special” with Ann Reinking, Chita Rivera and Ben Vereen. Ms. Kane has taught for New York’s American Dance Machine/Harkness House and the Actors’ and Directors’ Lab. She has been a visiting guest artist/teacher at several universities including The Ohio State University and New York University and has been a master teacher in residence at the Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds, England. She has also been a guest choreographer for BalletMet and Columbus Dance Theatre, including the recent world premiere of Women Leading. Her most current Otterbein collaborations have included Chicago, Singin’ In the Rain, Big Fish, Damn Yankees, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Oklahoma. Additionally, she has directed and choreographed the recent Otterbein University productions of Famously Yours, The Goddess, Move Me and Gloriously Grimm. John Diver (Lighting Designer) is a junior BFA Design/Technology major from Lambertville, MI. Previous credits at Otterbein include Singin’ in the Rain (Asst. Lighting Design), Launch 2018: A Senior Cabaret (Master Electrician), Big Fish (Master Electrician), Festival 2019: A Renaissance (Lighting Designer), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Asst. Master Electrician), Festival 2018: It’s Up To Art (Lighting Designer), and Adding Machine: A Musical (Programmer). Last summer, John joined the Des Moines Metro Opera as an Electrics Intern for their 47th Summer Festival Season, including mainstage productions of La Bohème, Candide, and Wozzeck. John would like to thank his family and friends for their love and support! Congrats Class of 2020! Kristen Cooperkline (Production Manager) joined the Otterbein family in 2013. She was raised in Columbus and earned her Bachelor of Arts in History/Theatre from the College of Wooster and her Masters of Arts in American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University. She then received her MFA in Stage Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her Illinois credits include Macbeth, La Calisto, Battle of Angels, February Dance, and Our Town. Following her time at Illinois, Kristen served as the Event Coordinator for the first-ever American College Dance Festival Association South Regional Conference as well as a stage manager for Bebe Miller Company. She returned to the University of Illinois in 2016 to guest stage manage February 2016, featuring the premiere of American choreographer/director Ping Chong’s piece Baldwin/NOW. Doc Davis (Sound Designer) was born and raised in Pearl, MS. After receiving a BA in Theatre from Belhaven University, he continued his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While completing his MFA in Sound Design, he worked as a sound engineer at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, assisting such acts as Mark Morris Dance Company, The National, Derek Trucks Band, Keb’ Mo’, Ralph Lemon Dance Company, and more. After receiving his MFA, he acted as a Mastering Engineer, Sound Designer, A1, Location Recordist, Video Designer, and Re-Recording Mixer for various theaters, companies, and films. Since moving to Columbus, OH, Davis has worked at Otterbein University as Lighting and Sound Supervisor and Events Coordinator. He continues to design and mix shows many times a year and especially loves sharing his approach to Audio Engineering and Sound Design with students of all ages! Avery Barrett (Stage Manager) is a sophomore Design/Technology major with a Studio Art minor from Austin, TX. Her previous credits include Fun Home (Stage Manager), Angels in America (Stage Manager) at Cedar Park Theatre, and Chicago (Assistant Stage Manager). She would like to thank her boyfriend Kaleb Baldwin for his constant love and support and her friends and family for always giving her a reason to smile. Jacob Gooch (Assistant Master Electrician/Light Board Operator) is a freshman BFA Theatre Design/Technology major. Most recently, Gooch was the company deck chief for The Ohio Light Opera’s 2019 Summer Season and the resident lighting designer for Summer Stage Wooster. Sophie Rodriguez (Technical Director) is a sophomore BFA Design/Technology major from Houston, TX. Previous credits include Radium Girls (Assistant Master Electrician) at Otterbein University, and Newsies (Scenic Carpenter), West Side Story (Scenic Carpenter), and Mary Poppins (Scenic Carpenter) at Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. Sophie would like to thank her family, friends, professors and advisors for all of the support! Julia Sopher (Assistant Stage Manager) is a junior BA Theatre major at Otterbein University. He previous shows at Otterbein include Chicago (Assistant Scenic Designer), Hayfever (Assistant Master Electrician), Dance 2018: Gloriously Grimm (Assistant Wardrobe Master), Big Fish (Production Assistant), and Master Builder (Assistant Director). She would love to thank her family (Dad, Mom, Connor, Gabi, and Natalie Ray) for all their love and support! Patrick Stone (Faculty Technical Director) began his tenure as the Technical Director at Otterbein in the Fall of 2014. He spent the previous seven years at the University of Arkansas as the Faculty Technical Director. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and a Bachelor of Arts from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. He teaches classes in stage-craft, properties design and construction, metal working, technical direction, wood working, and motion scenery. Patrick also enjoys consulting with local and regional theatres ranging from professional through junior high school. When not in the Scenic Studio or backstage Patrick enjoys any activity that gets him outdoors. Last spring, he was happy to receive promotion at Otterbein to Associate Professor status.

Bradford is very grateful for the time he has spent at Otterbein University! His favorite roles include Chicago (Amos Hart), Big Fish (Swing/Dance Captain), and Dance Concerts 2016-2018 (Ensemble/Featured Dancer). Bradford will be moving to New York City to complete an internship with Binder Casting. He would like to thank all the faculty and his friends at Otterbein, his parents, and his sister for their love and support throughout his journey at Otterbein. Cameron Chang is a BFA Musical Theatre major from San Diego, CA. Otterbein roles include The Tragedy of Macbeth (Malcolm), Next to Normal (Gabe), Snoopy!!! Maggie’s favorite roles include Newsies (Katherine) at the Woodstock Playhouse, and Chicago (Hunyak) and The Glass Menagerie (Laura Wingfield) at Otterbein University. Maggie is looking forward to moving to NYC to intern with a casting agency and adventure through the city with her friends!

Christian Heinemann is a BFA Musical Theatre major from Rochester, MI. Favorite Otterbein credits include Chicago (Mary Sunshine) and Big Fish (Zacky Price). Other credits include Newsies (Crutchie) and Hair (Steve) at the Woodstock Playhouse. Christian would love to thank the Otterbein community for being his home for the past three and a half years and for the hell of a ride it’s been.

1fH1ECLASS CLASS OF OJF 2020 2(())2(()) THE Daniel Kunkel is a BFA Acting major from Richmond, Va. Past roles include The Tragedy of Macbeth (Macbeth) and Hayfever (David Bliss). This spring, he will be interning with Sordelet Inc. He wants to thank his parents, Jason and Tara, and the rest of Clan Kunkel, Annika, 11th Hour, EWC, 3C, his Otterbein teachers, and opossums, the real unsung heroes.

Abby Kress is a BFA Musical Theatre major with a concentration in dance from Dayton, OH. Previous credits include Chicago (Roxie Hart) at Otterbein, and A Chorus Line (Bebe) and The Little Mermaid (Ursula u/s) at Music Theatre Wichita. Abby would like to dedicate her last Otterbein show to the Class of 2020. Much love to them and her parents.

Kenneth Remaklus is a BFA Musical Theatre major from Cincinnati, OH. Some of his favorite roles from his time at Otterbein include My Fair Lady (Freddy), Adding Machine: A Musical (Shrdlu), and Oklahoma! (Will Parker). He would like to thank the class of 2020, as well as his professors and family, for their endless support.

Colin Robertson is a BFA Musical Theatre major from Kenosha, WI. He’s been incredibly lucky to perform Thoroughly Modern Millie (Jimmy Smith), Damn Yankees (Joe Hardy), and several productions at Weathervane Playhouse. He would love to thank his parents, his friends, and all his directors/teachers for their ceaseless support.

Savannah Schakett is a BFA Musical Theatre major from Houston, TX. Favorite roles include Dance 2019: Together Again (Soloist), The Tragedy of Macbeth (Fleance/Young Siward/Lady Macbeth u/s), and Chicago (Annie/ Mama Morton u/s) at Otterbein, and Hairspray (Amber VonTussle) and The Skin of Our Teeth (Sabina) at HSPVA. Savannah is thrilled to be moving to NYC next month to intern with Wojcik|Seay Casting. Christopher Smith is a senior BFA Acting major from Toledo, OH. Previous credits include Radium Girls (Markley/Von Sohocky/Elderly Widow), Master Harold... and the Boys (Hally), Rumors (Lenny), and The Crucible (Giles Corey). Christopher sends his apologies to Melissa Lusher for not doing the Rumors monologue.

Payton Tevis is a BFA Musical Theatre major from Erie, PA. Her favorite show she’s done at Otterbein is Adding Machine: A Musical (Daisy Devore), but she hopes she made you laugh in Smoke on the Mountain (June), Guys and Dolls (Adelaide), Oklahoma! (Ado Annie), or Hay Fever (Judith Bliss). Payton plans to move to NYC in January, intern with Stephanie Klapper Casting, and explore the city with her favorite people. She would like to thank her family and Trey for the constant love and support. Cecilia Trippiedi is a BFA Musical Theatre major with a concentration in dance from Orland Park, IL. Favorite roles include The Sound of Music (Liesl) at Music Theater Wichita, Into The Woods (Little Red) at Utah Festival Opera, and Singin’ in the Rain (Kathy Selden) at Otterbein. She will be interning with Eisenberg/Beans Casting in NYC this winter.
