DIRECTOR’S NOTE What lies within?
Unfamiliar and reckless A path of direct and curve Frightening and covered in wet darkness yet beautiful with silken prowl Pulling and turning until light breaks the tether and the moon reveals its secrets Deep roots holding and branches lifting The beginning, forever a twinkling light Always there, always leading to what lies within The wild within
• S H Kane This concert is inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are. The child we were remains somewhere inside us and knows what makes us happy. As we seek to reconnect with that child, we encounter wild things on the journey. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to meet all of them but the wild things will choose the most appropriate time to greet. They can help us cope, connect, love and even survive. They can be beautiful, funny, stark and even frightening. We need to look into their eyes, whether difficult or wonderful and exhilarating. To reconnect with that child, we sometimes need to become the ruler of the wild things. The growth of our imagination and the journey can bring us comfort, a dance under the full moon and the affirmation that we can, and should, love ourselves and others.

When Otterbein University was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic last March, we were devastated to have to cancel our spring production, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder just as we were beginning final tech and dress rehearsals. The actors had rehearsed for more than five weeks and we had already invested thousands of dollars in scenery, costumes, lights, licensing, advertising, and more. We weren’t sure how we could possibly pay our bills and prepare for a fall season given the loss of ticket revenue. Many ticket holders stepped up, donating their ticket fees and providing addditional financial support. It is because of the generosity of those you see here, our sponsors, and many more who prefer to remain anonymous, that we are able to fully produce this fall 2020 season. Thank you for your trust in us and for being a part of the Otterbein Theatre & Dance Family. We look forward to entertaining you in person again very soon. - Elizabeth Saltzgiver, Managing Director
