I love Hong Kong although the traffic on the roads might look a bit daunting but if people want to get across the streets, chances are there’s a pedestrian-friendly way to do it. Hong Kong is a city of pedestrian subways and sky bridges, helping its large number of pedestrians to cross the traffic-filled roads in safety and comfort. Hong Kong is highly secure and safety enough for anyone to move around in, at all times of the day and night, with no need to worry about personal safety.

Singapore’s urban planning with grid form creates a compact living within the city. Well-planning of movement pattern with minimal dead-ends, numerous of intersections and routes option enhance the permeability of the city. This increases the safety of the streets. The planning of street furniture which respects the natural features makes Singapore have great quality of public realm. With the concept of live, work and play allows pedestrian-oriented activities and uses. The development which integrated with urban fabric coherent; scale of development considered of historical buildings defines the respectful of culture and memory of Singapore city.

NICHOLAS TIONG ING JUN Singapore is a small city and yet is the best city among all. To me, Singapore is a very good example of urban planning for example the city is brought into the garden, buildings a wellorganized based on grid line. Singapore successfully achieves its urban design concept which is live, work and play. I like the feeling of how Singapore makes use of the land and composite the new design into the old building. Just like Clarke Quay, such enrichment of vitality spaces, the integration between old design and new design which is just so fascinating. Last but not least, Singapore is paying respect to its context in the urban design. Not just in terms of building design, even human comfort also takes into consideration as part of the design.

TIE SING KIONG After the analysis of three cities, Manhattan is the one inspired me the most between Singapore and Hong Kong. The growth of spatial structure in Manhattan city is one of the reasons I chosen the city. It’s grown in grid planning that easy-to-navigate layout of streets and avenues. Its uncoordinated growth from colonial settlement last time develops into a global business district.

BRANDON ANG EE SHEN If want me to choose one city that I really like from these three city, Hong Kong, Manhattan, or Singapore? I would like to say I really like urban development in Singapore city. One of the reason I like is modular block that based on grid line for more land sufficiency. Singapore also emphasize on the green at every building although Singapore is a city that full of building. Singapore also retain the old building and some of the old building well blend in with the new structure building and change them to entertainment area for the tourism and the landmark of the Singapore for example like Clark Quay. Lastly, another reason I like is the cleanliness at the Singapore and well separate the layer for the transportation, pedestrian and the building.

ONG WEI HOOW Among, Manhattan, Hong Kong & Singapore, I prefer to be staying at Singapore. Firstly, Singapore is the city that emphasizes on live, work & play. Secondly, pedestrian friendly environment can be found around the city. For instance, enclosed open space within the city is shaded with trees and also the vertical buildings. The pedestrians can spend their free time at those public open space for recreational purpose. Next, Singapore is also considered as the vertical city. The skyline of Singapore always amazes me especially the vista at night. Lastly, Singapore is the accessible city due to its massive transportation network, such as taxi, public bus and MRT.
