Happy Holidays

T

he holiday season is upon us, and while the holidays may have different meanings for many of our readers due to their diverse cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs, the one thing we all share is the spirit of community. It was just a few months ago that we witnessed neighbors helping neighbors as we banded together to prepare for Hurricane Irma. And in the aftermath of that storm, strangers became friends and a renewed sense of community was born. In the spirit of the holiday season, let’s rekindle those bonds as we open our homes and hearts. Share your holiday traditions with a family of another faith. Teach your children the true meaning of giving, by donating to a worthy charity or volunteering at a community food bank. And as the new year approaches, take a moment to count your blessings and resolve to become a more active member of your community. The perfect place to start is right here in the pages of this Our City magazine. Each and every issue is packed with stories on all the wonderful activities and programs taking place in your community, along with articles on the amazing accomplishments of your neighbors, young and old. Wishing you and yours a joyous holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year!

A

s part of the 4th annual global Shabbat Project, over a million Jews of diverse backgrounds in 1,150 cities across 94 countries created their own events to inspire and unite. An estimated one million people took part in celebrations on and around the Shabbat of October 27th, not just in unique Shabbat programs, but in citywide pre-Shabbat “Challah Bakes” and post-Shabbat “Havdallah Concerts”. The Shabbos Project is a worldwide initiative that began in South Africa in 2013 in the hope of unifying the Jewish people in observance of one full Shabbat together. The 2017 global Shabbat Project attracted record numbers of participants. To coordinate the global initiative on such a large scale, The Shabbat Project’s head office in Johannesburg worked with some 6,000 global partners. One important activity of the project is the “Challah Bake”, where women from all over the world attend local events to bake challah together. More than 400 women and girls in Grades 6 and up came together to make challah, the traditional bread for the Jewish Sabbath at Scheck Hillel Community School which was organized by the Great Big Challah Bake of North Miami. Dr. Hana Barouk, Upper School Judaic Studies Teacher at Scheck Hillel Community School was the evening’s MC. Mothers, daughters, bubbies (grandmothers), aunts, and friends all enjoyed the experience of baking Challah together in a beautifully decorated room. Each participant was given the necessary ingredients to create ready-to-bake braided loaves. “The Challah Bake committee of North Miami organized the Challah Bake for the entire community. We had more than 450 ladies making challah and learning the importance of this beautiful Mitzvah (good deed). Everyone had fun and danced all together as one,” said Anat Garzon, member of the The Great Big Challah Bake of North Miami committee.

DECEMBER 2017 | OUR CITY AVENTURA

“It was such an honor and pleasure to host the Great Big Challah Bake for our whole community,” said Rabbi Shlomo Sprung. “Together with more than one million Jews worldwide, we sang, danced, baked and connected with all our friends and loved ones. Preparing the challah properly is a millennia-old mitzvah that reminds us to care for the poor each time we bake our own bread. It is with great pride and humility that we follow in the footsteps of our ancestors by uniting as a community through tzedaka, and having fun while doing it!” Proceeds will benefit Kulanu, Scheck Hillel´s scholarship fund.

2 Causes + 2 Foundations = 1 Shared Day of Awareness in NMB BY BEVERLY PERKINS

M

id-October offered the perfect South Florida fall day to bring awareness to two different causes in the great City of North Miami Beach. The first was the 10th annual Walk Against Domestic Violence hosted by the North Miami Beach Police Department, and the second was a Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser event hosted by the North Miami Beach Library Teen Advisory Group (T.A.G.).

14

Both events drew quite the crowd. About 200 people attended the Domestic Violence Walk at the NMB Police Department where North Miami Beach Police Detective Cora Mann was the Mistress of Ceremonies leading the event. Public community officials Commissioner Barbara Kramer & Commissioner Phyllis S. Smith were also in attendance. Jon Saxx, a local saxophonist, provided entertainment and started the morning by playing “The Star-Spangled Banner”. K & D Total Body Fitness, along with the Miami Heat dancers and mascot Burnie, got everyone on their feet with a warm-up before the walk. Nago Academy dancers then performed, Kieana Bruno sang, and NMBPD Officer Abighail Mary also showed her singing talent. “The North Miami Beach Police Department was honored to host the 10th Annual Domestic Violence Walk,” said NMBPD Major Richard Rand. “We had a great turn out and hope to keep fighting for our victims of domestic violence.” Those that participated raised funds and awareness for domestic violence. All proceeds were donated to Safespace Foundation, Inc. Simultaneously, and not too far away, the North

Miami Beach Library T.A.G. had their fundraiser underway with arts and crafts, face painting, a photo booth, and more to raise awareness and fund cancer research. Heartwarming testimonies from breast cancer survivors and supporters encouraged the audience to get annual mammograms. “With breast cancer being the second most common cancer in women, it’s important to expose our young adults and those without family histories of the importance of mammograms and early detection,” said North Miami Beach Library Special Projects Coordinator Patrick Blanchard. The event would not have been possible without the generosity of the donors and volunteers. A portion of proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Local Dolphins Cheerleader Does Her Part to Help Key West Rebuild

n late October, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders hosted their annual Swimsuit Fashion Show at Hard Rock Stadium. In years past the cheerleaders always created an annual swimsuit calendar, but this year the ladies are captured in The Annual, a 100-page book filled with beautiful and iconic timeless images. Proceeds from the coffee table book, with photos from Key West to Miami Beach, will benefit rebuilding efforts in the Keys and all affected areas from Hurricane Irma through the Miami Dolphins Foundation. The cover of The Annual was unveiled before the show, with Miami Dolphins Cheerleader Adrianna receiving the honor as the first cover girl for publication. A highenergy swimwear fashion show featuring the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders followed. North Miami Beach resident cheerleader, Ally, was a participant in the “Air, Land and Sea” themed show and a part of the new book. This is Ally’s second year on the squad although she has been dancing since she was just three-years-old, and has performed as a member of the All-American Cheer Squad at the 2016 London New Year’s Day Parade and at the 2017 Ruffles Super Bowl Party in Monterrey Bay, Mexico. “I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the opportunity to shoot for our new Annual,” said Ally. “It’s not just a book, but a representation of beauty, class, style and

confidence, while depicting our personalities, and the fun experiences we have while shooting. Plus, it allows us to help others in need.” The broadcast journalism student already had the privilege to travel with the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders on two trips to visit troops abroad in 2016. The first was to Guantanamo Bay and the next to the United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and Kosovo. The adventurous cheerleader has swum with whale sharks in Cancun, and went skydiving with the United States Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights. What many don’t know about this multi-talented girl is that she sang opera for five years, trained in classical ballet for 11 years, and took part in many musicals and plays. One day she hopes to be a sports broadcaster. “This organization enables us to better ourselves as young women on and off the field. I hope to help set a precedent for future Dolphins Cheerleaders, on what a privilege it is to wear our signature uniform and take part in the numerous opportunities put in front of us. I wish to leave a legacy,” added Ally. The Annual can be ordered on DolphinsCheerleaders.com. The cost of the Annual is $19.99, plus shipping. All proceeds will benefit Hurricane Irma victims in Key West and other affected areas.

Enjoying the Holidays with an Aging Parent HEALTH CARE

BY MARY UNDERWOOD, VP MEMORY CARE SERVICES

Happy Holidays

T

he holidays can be stressful even when there isn’t the added stress of an aging parent. In addition, we often have this “idealistic” view of what Christmas, Thanksgiving and other holidays should look like based on commercials, movies, television specials, and songs. It is important to understand and accept that traditions, celebrations, and gatherings might have to change because of your loved one’s situation. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t still be enjoyable. First of all, have an open discussion with your family to explain the situation and need for change. If you are the one who hosts, then perhaps another family member can do so. That way everyone can still get together, but your focus can be on your loved one and not on everything that goes along with the day. If you are the host, then you might need to consider downsizing the numbers. Or, perhaps host a buffet and people can come by at different times throughout the day. It is key to know how much commotion your loved one is able to handle. It also might mean changing the time. A person with dementia may be more tired and frustrated later in the day. So, the family dinner may need to change from 5pm to noon. Wherever the celebration will occur, make sure there is a quiet room/area for the person in the event he/she does get overwhelmed. People can then visit in small groups versus the person being overwhelmed with a big crowd. Another important tip to surviving the holidays is to be flexible. You might have the whole day planned as to what time you will celebrate, who will provide transportation, and what time you will leave. However, an hour into the day, your loved one might indicate that he/she wants to go home. It is important to be flexible and prepared to shift gears. Some families opt to have their traditional celebration, but not include the person with dementia on that particular day. Instead, they will celebrate in a smaller way on a different day (i.e.: the day after Thanksgiving; a couple days after Christmas). Although to many this doesn’t “feel right,” it is important to understand that the person may not be aware of the specific date. In addition, it may be better for them, and the family, to have a low key celebration on a different day than a high stressed, overwhelming one on the actual day. For a person who is unable to participate on the actual day, there are still ways to include him/her. Include a recipe from the person, have everyone sign a card to bring to the person, or include a time for others to share memories of the person and the holidays. Finally, a question that I think is important to ask in regards to the holiday celebrations is, “Is this my need or is this my loved one’s need?” Often time that simple question will help point families in the right direction as to how to include the person in the celebrations. Giddy-Up! It’s Time for ACES Annual Scholastic Book Fair! SECTION NEWS SCHOOL HEAD

BY BEVERLY PERKINS

I

n late October, all Aventura City of Excellence School (ACES) students K-8 were rounded up for the annual Scholastic Book Fair. The week-long event began with “Character Day”, as both students and staff dressed up as their favorite literary characters. The halls were filled with princesses, detectives, super heroes, and even the famed British character Waldo known for his distinctive wardrobe. Following the opening event, was “Western Day” and the “Family Fun Western Night”. Cowgirls and cowboys moseyed over to the media center to view all the books on different genres and topics. The collection was filled with novels, picture books, fiction and non-fiction materials, how-to books, and so much more. In addition to shopping for books, the evening included food trucks, a DJ, face painting, bounce house, petting zoo, arts and crafts, and even a mechanical bull. “This year the book fair had a lot of books for the older kids,” said Samuel G., a fifth grader at the school. “I liked looking at the chapter books and the novels, like Wonder and Restart. They really caught my attention and made me want to read.” Alonzo P., a new fourth grader to ACES this year, was very excited about the chance to buy new books. “This was the best book fair I’ve ever been to,” he exclaimed. “I bought a book called Battle of the Dinosaurs. It even came with 3D glasses, so I can see the dinosaurs pop off the page!” The week concluded with “Pajama Day”, the eagerly anticipated day when everyone could roll right out of bed and into school in their comfy jammies. “Cuddle Up with a Good Book” was the theme, and administrators and teachers traveled around to grades K-2 classrooms to read a book to the students wearing their fun nighttime attire.

“Each year, ACES parents and faculty organize an amazing book fair, but this year’s event took book fairs to a whole other level,” said Ms. Padrone, 5th Grade teacher. “Students walked away with lots of great new reading material but also built up their love for reading even further. Everyone at ACES had a rootin’-tootin’ good time!”

Scheck Hillel Community School Lions Kicked Off the Third Annual Jewish Soccer Classic BY BEVERLY PERKINS

I

n late October, Scheck Hillel Community School hosted Jewish day schools from around the corner to across the country to compete in the third annual Jewish Soccer Classic. Varsity soccer teams from David Posnack Jewish Day School, Katz Yeshiva High School and YULA Boys High School of Los Angeles participated in the anticipated event. “We were very excited to host the 2017 Jewish Soccer Classic here at Scheck Hillel Community School and look forward to opening our season in the spirit of sport and ruach,” said Dr. Ezra Levy, Scheck Hillel’s Head of School. The first girls’ varsity game was Yeshiva against Posnack. The winner of that game would then play the Hillel Lions. Yeshiva defeated Posnack 7-1, and then played the Lions. Scheck Hillel girls’ team earned the tourney title when they defeated Katz Yeshiva High School 4-1.

26

Sophomore Rachelle Murciano scored a hat trick for the Lions. Her first goal was in the first 20 minutes of the game. She then scored her second goal off an assist from junior Ale Zisman. Her third and final goal of the game came with 12 minutes left in the first half. Hillel’s final goal was scored by junior Jenna Scheck with an assist from Alie Gelman. “I am happy that we were able to not only compete but come out with the win,” said Assistant Coach Elanna Brady. “We were able to assess our game and figure out what works and what we need to work on going into the regular season.” The boys’ games followed where the Lions beat YULA 8-0, and Yeshiva won 3-1 against Posnack to

qualify for the championship. In the end, the Lions ended up defeating Yeshiva 4-0, and won the championship title. “This preseason classic is very good for our team. It allows us to have 2 games in 24 hours and to gauge what we need to improve on,” said Head Coach Ben Magidson. “The atmosphere is always great for our fans.” Hillel Lions players Rachelle Murciano, IIan Lapco, Jonathan Zinquer, and Ariel Grobman were named Most Valuable Players. The preseason tournament was the perfect opportunity to give the coaches and the girls some exposure before the regular season begins. All three schools showed incredible skill, talent and passion.

The AMC Salutes the Best in Blue CHAMBER NEWS

BY BEVERLY PERKINS

J

ust recently the Aventura Marketing Council / Chamber of Commerce (AMC) recognized those heroic law enforcement officers who risk their lives each and every day to protect those in the community at their annual “Salute to Law Enforcement” breakfast hosted by Aventura Hospital and Medical Center at Sport of Kings in Gulfstream Park. Elected city officials, police chiefs, law enforcement officers along with hundreds of business and community leaders were welcomed by AMC Chair Gary Pyott, Aventura Hospital Acting CEO/Chief Financial Officer Alisa Bert, and Chief Operating Officer Luanne Ansaldo. They all shared the same heartfelt message, “Whether it’s saving a family from rising flood waters, running towards an explosion to save lives or chasing down the bad guys, law enforcement officers truly put their lives on the line for us day in and day out. For those reasons, and so many more, we thank you.” Law enforcement officers and their K-9s were honored from municipalities, agencies and institutions including: Aventura, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Coral Gables, El Portal, Florida International University Police Department, Golden Beach, Hallandale Beach, Miami-Dade-Village of Palmetto Bay, Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation, MiamiDade Intracoastal District, Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, Miami Gardens, Miami Shores, Miami Springs, North Miami, North Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach and Surfside.

Aventura Police Chief Brian Pegues saluted the courage of law enforcement professionals noting, “We have taken an oath to place other’s lives above our own. Our courage is inspired by the bravery of our peers and reinforced by teamwork. When officers are faced with daunting challenges like we are today, it is courage that sustains us.” Each month, the AMC continues saluting law enforcement with “Officer of the Month” award presentations supported by Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally Heyman. The generous commissioner’s office annually donates $10,000 to the Police Officers Assistance Trust to celebrate and honor exceptional officers. “Damages were really minimized because of diligent officers protecting our communities, people and property,” praised Heyman in regard to Hurricane Irma. “I’m proud to join the AMC in recognizing officers who go above and beyond.”

Read Aloud with your Children, Develop a Love of Learning

T

he image of my pregnant daughter reading to her 3-year-old while snuggled on the sofa warmed my heart. I have always cherished those precious uninterrupted moments with my own four children and was elated to see this tradition continue with our next generation. This intimate shared experience was central to me raising four children who love to read. As an educator, I have always emphasized the importance of reading aloud with children. It’s never too early! Young infants are lulled by the reader’s lyrical voice, comforted by being held in the arms of the readers and soon begin to focus vision on the colorful illustrations on each page. Toddlers relish hearing the same books over and over again as they squeal with delight knowing what’s coming up on the next page. Authors tend to write in a cadence that is engaging and expands children’s minds as they build vocabulary, memory and a familiarity with printed text and the syntax of their mother tongue. Many early childhood books are written in rhyme to help develop phonological awareness: a critical building block in reading. When the reader pauses, the young child gleefully fills in the missing word based on the rhyme. Our children typically become independent readers by Grade 3, yet it is still an opportunity to have that quiet uninterrupted time (no cell phones) together. Select an engaging chapter book and talk to your child and ask open-ended, thoughtful questions. Reading together builds children’s curiosity as they look forward with anticipation to tomorrow night’s chapter! As you read and approach an unknown vocabulary word, ask your child what the word means based on context clues. Again, this is a wonderful opportunity to expand vocabulary. We may not always have the opportunity to take our children on an African safari, but we can experience the safari through the words and illustrations of the book. As our children enter middle school and high school, they may struggle to develop their sense of self and become more independent from Mommy and Daddy. Choose a book to read together. Or read what your pre-teen or teenager is reading, gaining insight into how they perceive the characters, events and challenges. Maintaining this special time is important. It is reassuring for them to know that you are always there. We live in a hectic world where our children are busy with school and after-school activities, and spend a great deal of time focused on television or screen time. It is a gift to carve out a moment at the end of the day to curl up with your child, big or small, and read aloud. Selecting books that take our children to faraway places and exposing them to new information and experiences further expands the mind. What better gift can we give our children than quality time with a parent and a love of learning! Eileen Ginzburg is Scheck Hillel Community School’s Director of Special Programs, including Nativ: South Florida’s first full-day program dedicated exclusively to children with dyslexia and related learning differences at a Jewish day school. Scheck Hillel educates and inspires students 18 months-Grade 12 to become exemplary global citizens with enduring Jewish identity and values through an individualized college preparatory curriculum highlighted by STEM and design, Capstone, college dual enrollment, arts, athletics and community service. Its 14-acres include a 115,000-sq.-ft athletic complex with additional expansion plans. Set within a nurturing, diverse community, Scheck Hillel is one of the world’s largest Jewish community day schools and a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The Physician to the Physicians – Dr. Richard D. Levin, M.D., F.A.C.S. of Urodocs, Inc. BY BEVERLY PERKINS

A

s a urologist, Dr. Richard D. Levin is highly trained to treat typical disorders of the male and female urinary tract (bladder, ureter, kidney, and urethra) and the male reproductive system. However, he has expanded his knowledge and taken an innovative and avant-garde approach to how he treats his patients.

The board-certified physician is an expert at Vasectomy Reversal and male infertility as well as a pioneer in kidney stone surgery. Having the area’s only “Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center”, he has prevented, diagnosed, treated, and saved kidneys with his urologic cryosurgery method. For over 10 years, he has been practicing in Aventura at the Urodocs Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, and most recently he has been operating and seeing patients in Pembroke Pines. Levin plans to soon open another office in West Broward. Dr. Levin took the time to answer some frequently asked questions regarding his practice. What are your specialty interests and expertise? My background is in Surgical Oncology. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty, but because a variety of clinical problems are encountered when treating urological conditions, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required. I combine my extensive experience and latest technology in addressing urological concerns such as: ▸▸ Uro-oncology ▸▸ Endo-urology and stones ▸▸ Female urology ▸▸ Female sexual dysfunction, including labiaplasty and vaginoplasty ▸▸ Reconstructive urology What makes your practice unique? Here at Urodocs, we are often the only

physician a man sees. Patients come to us for general evaluation, sexual

performance issues, concerns of low testosterone and fatigue. I am also known as “the physician to the physicians”. It seems not a week goes by that we don’t take care of one of our colleagues. We obtain a detailed history, perform blood work, complete a physical examination and provide imaging. We screen for men’s health related cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and high cholesterol. We have a full contingent of sub-specialists to whom we refer when needed. All labs are available to patients via our patient portal and all records are maintained on line for easy retrieval as needed. Is there anything else you would like to add? I practice what I preach, and will always give straight answers. I am emphatic about providing the very best care using the latest technology. We, at Urodocs, always put the patient first. We are fully HIPAA compliant, and more importantly very respectful of needs and wishes. My overall goal is to improve the quality and length of life for all my patients. Urodocs, Inc. is located at 21355 East Dixie Highway, Suite 102, Aventura, 33180. To schedule an appointment, please call 305-932-4444. For more information, please visit www.RichardLevinMD.com.

n uncommon form of chronic pain is known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) which typically develops after an injury, surgery, stroke, or heart attack. However, the pain associated does not correlate with the severity of the initial injury. This type of pain usually affects an arm or a leg. In cases of injury-related CRPS, the syndrome maybe caused by the immune system triggering a response which leads to swelling, redness, and warmth. Some believe that CRPS represents a disruption of the healing process. Although the cause of the pain is not understood and there is no cure, early treatment is recommended and found to be most effective. Many patients who undergo treatment see improvement and even go into remission. Complex regional pain syndrome is also called reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome. The chronic pain condition occurs because high levels of nerve impulses are sent to an affected site. Some experts believe that CRPS is a result of a dysfunction of the central or peripheral nervous systems. It’s been most common in people ages 20-35, and affects women more often than men. Complex regional pain syndrome signs and symptoms may change over time and vary upon individual. The most common occurrence is pain, swelling, redness, and hypersensitivity in temperature changes such as too cold to touch. An affected limb could become cold and pale over time, and the skin, hair, and nail may change as well along with muscle spasms and tightening. Unfortunately, if these changes occur, the condition is often permanent. Other symptoms may be the following: ▸▸ Continuous burning or throbbing pain, usually in your arm, leg, hand or foot ▸▸ Changes in skin color, which can range from white and mottled to red or blue ▸▸ Changes in skin texture, which may become tender, thin or shiny in the affected area ▸▸ Joint stiffness and damage ▸▸ Weakness and loss (atrophy) ▸▸ Decreased ability to move the affected body part Occasionally, complex regional pain syndrome may spread from its source to elsewhere in the body, such as the opposite limb. Emotional stress has been known to also worsen the pain. If a person experiences severe and constant pain that affects a limb and makes touching or moving that limb seem intolerable, see a physician immediately to determine the cause and to start treating complex regional pain syndrome early.

MESSAGE FROM THE POLICE CHIEF

“LILY”

The Holiday Season: A Special Time of the Year BY NORTH MIAMI BEACH CHIEF OF POLICE WILLIAM “BILL” HERNANDEZ, MSM

T

he holiday season is the time when busy people are often distracted by the holiday buzz making themselves more vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. At this time of year, the North Miami Beach Police Department (NMBPD) is very cognizant of the fact that we can never be too careful, too prepared or too aware not to become the next victim of a holiday hustler. Therefore, the NMBPD wants to remind you that you do not need to change what you do on a regular basis to keep your loved ones safe - it simply requires more attention to the same safety and security tips that you follow all year long, i.e., not to give the opportunity to some unsavory characters in society to dissipate the joy and the cheer of the season. Please share the following holiday tips with family, friends and neighbors. ▸▸ Do not drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs; call for a taxi, take public transportation or have a designated driver. ▸▸ Observe your surroundings when approaching or leaving your vehicle. ▸▸ Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area. ▸▸ Report any suspicious activities or loitering to the authorities. ▸▸ Keep all car doors locked and windows closed while in or out of your car. ▸▸ Never leave your car unoccupied with the motor running or with children inside. ▸▸ Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car. If you must leave something in the car, lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight. ▸▸ Do not carry large amount of cash; use secure forms of payment such as credit or debit card when possible. ▸▸ If you use an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM), choose one that is located inside a mall, or in a well-lit location. It is important to have clear visibility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps. ▸▸ If your credit card is lost, stolen or misused, notify the credit issuer immediately. ▸▸ When possible, use a cell phone to take pictures of the serial number of any high-dollar items that you purchase before leaving the store. Based on past experience, the NMBPD is aware that the good spirits of the holiday season go deeper than tinsels and toys. So, in addition to the compilation of holiday season tips that contribute to the safety and security of the residents, we also adopt a Special Holiday Task Force approach to deter larcenies and thefts, and to help keep shoppers safe during the holiday season. Consequently, we will deploy the detectives of the NMBPD Street Crime Unit (plainclothes officers) to patrol the business districts, residential neighborhoods in marked and unmarked vehicles to be on the lookout for holiday related burglaries and robberies. We will also set up holiday sobriety checkpoints, target and cite vehicles that are improperly or unlawfully parked in the handicap parking area. All things considered, the holiday season is a special time of year, and the NMBPD wishes you a safe, happy and peaceful holiday season. To learn more about the City of North Miami Beach Police Department, please visit www.citynmb.com. For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1 and all other non-emergencies, please call (305) NMB-POLICE or (305) 662-7654.
