Best Cultural Event Weston World Fest Weston World Fest has once again been recognized as the Best Cultural Event in town. That’s not surprising when you consider it celebrates our community’s cultural diversity. This year’s program featured more than 20 country booths representing the homelands of Weston residents. Patrons could “travel the globe” experiencing the culture and heritage of various countries from Cuba and Costa Rica to Singapore and Indonesia. Each booth offered cultural displays and hands-on activities. The Passport Challenge added to the educational aspect of the event. Weston World Fest also exposed guests to the tastes and sounds of different countries. Entertainment included everything from Chinese instrumentalists to Brazilian vocalists and an American jazz band. Local restaurants served up samples of authentic international cuisine. “Stage & Screen” was the theme of the 2019 Weston World Fest. It highlighted international movies, music, and theater. The event is presented by the Arts Council of Greater Weston and the City of Weston.
Best Family Event Weston 4th of July Hometown Parade Patriotic pride fills the air as thousands of parade-goers line the streets around Weston Town Center to watch the City of Weston’s annual 4th of July Hometown Parade. Decked out in red, white and blue, friends and families arrive early to stake out prime spots along Main Street to get a glimpse of the 50 or so floats and parade entries. Dozens of community organizations proudly display their patriotism in the parade. In addition to members of the Weston City Commission and local dignitaries, the 4th of July Hometown Parade features members of the Arts Council of Greater Weston, Weston Music Society, Rotary Club of Weston, scout troops, sports teams, local churches, area businesses, beauty queens, costumed characters, and much more. Last year’s

theme was United by Freedom. CBS4 Meteorologist and Weston resident Craig Setzer served as Grand Marshal.
Best Free Event Outdoor Pops Concert
Weston Town Center transformed into an openair concert hall for the Symphony of the Americas’ free, outdoor pops concert, presented by the Weston Music Society and City of Weston. It is one of the most highly-anticipated cultural events of the year, attracting a crowd of all ages. The outdoor pops concert provides a unique opportunity to introduce the community to the beauty of classical musical performed by a worldclass symphony orchestra. The outdoor venue is particularly appealing to families with young children who may not be ready for a traditional concert experience. This year’s music under the stars program featured familiar scores from popular blockbuster movies such as Mission Impossible, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, and Indiana Jones, as well as highlights from the beloved musical movie, The Sound of Music. The ever-popular pops classic, Stars and Stripes Forever, closed out the concert. All music was performed by the Symphony of the Americas Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese.
Best Park Weston Regional Park From small passive parks to expansive athletic complexes, Weston has a park experience to please every resident. The largest and most popular, at least according to Our City Weston readers, is Weston Regional Park. The 102-acre park is home to the Weston Community Center as well as the Weston YMCA Family Center. It is Weston’s most active park with eight baseball/softball fields, eight football/soccer fields, eight basketball courts, three roller hockey rinks, four multi-purpose artificial turf courts, and four sand volleyball courts. In addition, there is an exercise trail that weaves throughout the park stretching 8,000 linear feet. Weston Regional Park also features two shaded playgrounds. Other park amenities include three picnic shelters with tables and grills that can be rented by residents, five concession stands with restroom facilities, and an Event Stage, where the community gathers for free events such as Weston World Fest, Moonlight Movies in the Park and the WestonNights Outdoor Concert Series. Weston Regional Park also plays host to the annual Royal Egg Hunt.
