Best Cultural Event Weston World Fest

Best Park Weston Regional Park

Weston World Fest has once again been recognized as the Best Cultural Event in town. That’s not surprising when you consider it celebrates our community’s cultural diversity. This year’s program was one of the last to “sneak in” before the coronavirus lockdown. It featured more than 20 booths representing the homelands of Weston residents. Patrons could “travel the globe” experiencing the culture and heritage of various countries from Cuba and Costa Rica to Singapore and Indonesia. Each booth offered cultural displays and hands-on activities. The Passport Challenge added to the educational aspect of the event. Weston World Fest also exposed guests to the tastes and sounds of different countries. Entertainment included everything from Chinese instrumentalists to Brazilian vocalists and an American jazz band. Local restaurants served up samples of authentic international cuisine.

From small passive parks to expansive athletic complexes, Weston has a park experience to please every resident. The largest and most popular, at least according to Our City Weston readers, is Weston Regional Park. The 102-acre park is home to the Weston Community Center as well as the Weston YMCA Family Center. It is Weston’s most active park with eight baseball/softball fields, eight football/soccer fields, eight basketball courts, three roller hockey rinks, four multi-purpose artificial turf courts, and four sand volleyball courts. In addition, there is an exercise trail that weaves throughout the park stretching 8,000 linear feet. Weston Regional Park also features two shaded playgrounds. Other park amenities include three picnic shelters with tables and grills that can be rented by residents, five concession stands with restroom facilities, and an Event Stage, where the community gathers for free events such as Weston World Fest, Moonlight Movies in the Park and the WestonNights Outdoor Concert Series. Weston Regional Park also plays host to the annual Royal Egg Hunt.

Best Family Event Patriotism on Parade 4th of July Thank You to 1st Responders

This year’s Independence Day celebration in Weston was unlike any other. The coronavirus epidemic prevented all of us from our usual, wonderful celebrations. Gone were crowds at the park, fireworks, and the usual parade. The citizens of Weston, however, were not going to let the day pass without a celebration. Hundreds of Westonians took to the streets, safely socially distanced, inside vehicles decorated to the max with our National colors of red, white, and blue. Everyone honked and cheered as the procession past each Weston Fire Station and the BSO service center, thanking the on-duty firefighters and deputies for keeping us safe.

Best Sports Program Okapi Wanders Rugby Football Club Rugby Football has a rough and tough reputation. While this reputation is undoubtedly deserved, the sport, when played properly, places a much higher priority on teamwork and discipline. Given this fact, it is no wonder that Weston is home to the Okapi Wanderers Rugby Football Club: the fastest-growing club in the entire country. The club was founded just five years ago and is already the 12th largest program in the nation. They have teams for players as young as six all the way up to their Old Boys team with players as old as 60! Youth teams are structure by age and skill level. No experience is required to join the club. There are more than 20 qualified coaches helping players maximize their potential. The club plans to capitalize on its recent success and to keep growing the game in South Florida. They have recently added an all-star team called the Florida Jaguars and are looking forward to launching girls and women’s teams in the near future. Its no wonder they were voted Best in Weston.

The state-of-the-art facility opened last fall as part of the newly constructed hospital tower. Located on the first floor of the five-story tower, the expanded Emergency Services Department consists of 42 emergency bays designed to accommodate more than 70,000 patients per year. The facility was specially designed to support patient safety, comfort and experience. It offers ten fast-track bays to facilitate quicker resolution for less emergent, low acuity patients. It has three triage bays for rapid assessments to identify appropriate level of care. In addition, the Emergency Services Department houses two resuscitation bays with state-of-the-art medical gas booms to resuscitate patients with the most severe medical conditions. It also features an emerging pathogens unit, accessible via a separate decontamination entryway, which promotes added safety when caring for patients who have been exposed to chemical, radiological or biological agents. To promote patient care by facilitating comfort and a healing environment, the entire Emergency Services Department was designed to provide natural light through elevated windows throughout the central space along with windows in each of the 24 observation bays.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Get State of the Art Air Purification Systems

A group of local businesses, led by Air Conditioning Contractor, Air Pros USA, donated and installed 150 Fresh-Aire UV light systems at 11 Boys and Girls Clubs

across Broward County. The systems were installed directly into the central air systems by Air Pros USA technicians. UV light technology compliments air conditioning systems to improve indoor air quality by neutralizing viruses and other microbes as the air circulates through the ventilation system. UV light systems are tested and validated against surface bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungus, and have been shown to achieve up to 99.999996% reduction on microorganisms. “The need for quality indoor air is more critical than ever. We are hopeful that our efforts to improve the air in these safe environments will help more families have the confidence to let children return to the clubs and take advantage of their amazing programs,” said Anthony Perera, founder of Air Pros USA.

Community Kitchen Feeds Over 1 Million People with State-of-the-Art Kitchen

eeding South Florida recently unveiled its new, state-of-the-art, 5,000-square-foot community kitchen. Although the kitchen is located in Palm Beach County, it will provide meals to nearly 1.3 million people in the four counties that Feeding South Florida serves (Palm Beach, Broward, MiamiDade, and Monroe Counties). The one-of-a-kind community kitchen is a highly anticipated community resource, with years in the making. On Sunday, July 12th, a virtual grand opening celebration took place via Zoom and Facebook Live. Viewers tuned in to view some of South Florida’s favorite chefs using their talents to showcase the kitchen’s full capacity. They prepared the very first meals in the kitchen using nutritious items regularly distributed by Feeding South Florida, converted into unique, savory, and creative dishes that appeal to the whole family. Chef Ralph Pagano of Naked Taco in Coconut Creek, and Chef Randy Fisher of CREaM in Miami hosted the event. The featured chefs were Chef Lindsay Autry of The Regional Kitchen & Public House in West Palm Beach, Chef Allen Susser of Chef Allen’s Consulting in Hollywood, and Chef Timon Balloo of Balloo Restaurant in downtown Miami. “This multi-purpose community kitchen is a vision that Feeding South Florida has had for quite some time, and we are so excited to finally present it to the community,” said Vélez. “This is just the beginning because the kitchen will serve the community by providing meals, workforce training, catering as social innovation, an incubator for community support, and family cooking classes.” The kitchen will advance Feeding South Florida’s mission of ending hunger in South Florida by serving up to 10,000 meals per day for children’s after-school and summer programs, meals for older adults, and medically tailored meals. The kitchen will also provide critical meals during disaster response. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Feeding South Florida has distributed over 40 million pounds of food (33.3 million meals) in the four counties it serves (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties) in 14 weeks a pace that translates to nearly 150 million pounds over a 12-month period. n July 20th, Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Rucie recommended that all Broward students begin the year with online learning only. “If conditions do not improve and continue to worsen, that is the only way we can educate our students while keeping them and our teachers healthy and safe,” Rucie commented, during the 8-minute address. It is almost certain that part or all of every student’s course work at the beginning of the school year will consist of at-home, online studies. We surveyed experts to find best practices to ensure your student will be as successful as possible. Here is what they recommend. 1. Location, Location, Location It is important to establish a consistent routine for your child’s work. Roaming around the house with a laptop or taking ZOOM classroom instruction at the park may seem like fun, but a lack of consistency can lead to distraction. Have your student use the same, quiet place for his/her work each day. 2. Schedule Priorities Maintaining a regular schedule is critical in establishing a healthy learning routine. Like, having a consistent location, “going to school” at the same time each day reinforces the importance of learning. 3. Say No to Phones Perhaps the biggest challenge parents face with online learning is the fact that the primary tool kids use to learn can also be their biggest distraction. Anything connected to the web can be a source of constant distraction. The dopamine feedback mechanisms students get from social media fuel their yearning for more, just like an addiction. Unless your student needs his phone for the coursework at hand, it is best to take it into a different room 4. Inspect, Don’t Expect Unless your child is incredibly organized, mature, and goal-oriented, it will be extremely difficult for her to stay on track remotely. The ever-present guidance of an involved-teacher simply won’t be there. Parents must be more engaged with their children’s coursework today than ever before. We sat down with co-owner Bernard Hsiao, MD. PhD. to learn more about Nexus. How did you, a physician, get involved with opening one of the world’s most advanced gun ranges? (laughs) It does seem far removed from my role in medicine, doesn’t it? Most people are surprised that I had actually never shot until just a few years before opening Nexus. Once I started though, I was hooked. I’m an extremely competitive person and became intensely involved in local pistol matches. I was practicing several times a week, often shooting thousands of rounds. Over time though, I noticed I was strangely becoming short of breath during my regular exercise routine. I realized I was inhaling gun smoke and the toxic by-products due to the inadequate ventilation of the ranges I was shooting in. My respiratory function was being compromised, and I was getting lead poisoning! I took a hard look at the gun industry and asked several questions. Why are there no regulations protecting shooters from suffering

the same ailment I did? Why are gun ranges and stores frequently dirty and unsafe “holes” in the wall? Why are we still shooting at paper targets in the 21st century? How can we make shooting more fun? Why do gun store “experts” treat women and novice shooters with such disdain? The concept of Nexus emerged to provide the answer to all of these issues. How has Nexus addressed the toxic gun smoke? We spared no expense on our ventilation system. The ranges are air conditioned with a million-dollar military grade filtration system, allowing our members to shoot in complete comfort, despite the heat and humidity outside. The air is HEPA filtered and exceeds all OSHA regulations. You shoot your actual gun and real ammo at interactive video targets, like zombie scenarios, skill drills, asteroids, etc. We also have a standard paper target range for those that prefer a traditional experience. Seems like a great partnership. Was it just you and your brother that started Nexus? Our third partner, Christopher Longsworth, brought the final piece of the puzzle with his background in real estate develop-

ment and architecture. All the projects in his portfolio are highly regarded as being at the cutting edge of modern architecture, such as Strata at Plantation, and Koi Marina and Residences in Pompano. TREATMENT: • Modification of activity and avoiding going barefoot. • Rest and Ice. • Stretching exercises. • Proper shoe gear and heel lifts to decrease tension on the heel. • Night splinting to stretch the tight calf muscle and arch ligament.

Interact Clubs of Weston Gearing Up for the New School Year BY KURT ASESOR, ROTARIAN e are very excited to start this school year strong and accomplish as much as we can. The Rotary Club of Weston’s goal for its Interact Clubs is to focus on the students growing as leaders. We are looking to accomplish this through our student-led meetings, with the school advisors standing by reassuring that they are staying on task and working efficiently. We are also looking at opportunities to take the students out into the community through partnership programs with local businesses. Through these internship programs, students will receive one on one training with our Youth Services Co-Chairs,

Kurt Asesor owner of Premier Martial Arts and Jose Barbosa owner of Reaching Greatness Through CrossFit. The Interact Clubs help develop a diverse group of leaders, and we would love to see your student at our first meeting! When school begins in the fall, you can check in to see if your school offers an Interact Club. Western High School, Cypress Bay High School, and The Sagemont Upper School are all actively involved with their Interact Clubs, and they could be the perfect place for you! With each school, an advisor is appointed and will be there to answer any questions. Derek Hicks will be the advisor for Western. The advisor for Cypress Bay will be Brandon Boswell, and Lubna Yasmin will be the advisor for Sagemont Upper School. The Interact Club was founded by the Rotary Club to help students ranging in age from 12-18 years old, develop their leadership and professional skills. Throughout the year, the Interact Club organizes a minimum of two projects. One focuses on the students’ school and community, and the second on reaching out and promoting international understanding. With 20,372 Interact Clubs

spanning over 159 countries, we actively connect students to leaders within our community and leaders across the world. Close to home, students connect with local leaders and learn how to take action and make a difference within their community. In turn, our advisors guide them to become leaders and to explore their horizons. We connect the students with leaders across the world. With this program, the students can discover new cultures and make lasting friendships with teens on the other side of the globe. Arts Council Of Greater Weston Awards Scholarship

he Arts Council of Greater Weston is pleased to announce it has awarded its inaugural Student Volunteer Scholarship to Tomas Guerra, a 19-year-old senior from Cypress Bay High School. This year’s award is in the amount of $1000. Claudia Fernandez, an Arts Council Board member and Cypress Bay High School teacher, proposed and spearheaded this new program. She states, “The Student Volunteer Scholarship was open to Arts Council volunteers to honor their contributions to our organization. It recognizes the student’s efforts on behalf of arts and culture events in our community. Without the many hours that these students have contributed, our major events would not have been possible”. In addition to volunteer hours, other criteria included grades, classwork in the arts, music, languages and creative writing, a recommendation letter, work, other extracurricular activities, and an essay from the student. A selection committee chose Tomas as the recipient of the scholarship. Tomas arrived in the United States from Venezuela at the beginning of his junior year. He immediately adapted to a new and completely different lifestyle and language. He was in the top 10% of his graduating class. He joined the Spanish Club from CBHS, and through it, found the Arts Council. He volunteered with them throughout his two years of high school at different events such as Celebrate the Arts Day and Weston World Fest. In these two years, he enhanced his leadership skills by becoming the President of the Spanish Club in Cypress Bay. In his year as President, he focused the club onto more service activities and experiences that enhanced the camaraderie within the club. He has worked as a self-employed tutor from September 2015, while still in Venezuela, through the present. He thinks it is important that wherever you are in this world, you must be part of your community. He will pursue a career in International Relations at Florida International University. In his thank-you note to the Arts Council, Tomas wrote, “I wanted to thank you for this amazing opportunity! Thank you for believing in me and in my future education. I got this email at the right time. I’ve worked hard in these past 2 years in the US, and I’m really grateful for the Arts Council to cherish that, and support me on my educational journey. I hope you, and all of the Arts Council is staying safe and healthy; and that we could meet after quarantine is over to thank all of you personally”. President Jami Nix Rahn adds, “Tomas was selected based on his positive attitude and commitment to the community. Unfortunately, we were not able to recognize this outstanding student at our annual Volunteer Reception that was canceled due to Covid-19 social distancing orders. Co-Parenting in The Age of Covid-19 BY EVAN H. BARON, ESQ. nder normal circumstances, parents of school age children would be planning for the upcoming school term. The decisions that would need to be made would traditionally be school supplies, school clothes, uniforms, and perhaps after school care. The decisions that parents now need to make are obviously of much greater importance as they wrestle with the safety of traditional schooling. It seems that every other day a different plan is put forth. The anticipated school term affects not only plans for the children, but also planning for the parents. Some parents have been able to continue working from home, but not all parents have that ability. It presents a major issue that each family needs to resolve within their individual household. What if the parents are divorced and not part of the same household? How will these same decisions be made by two parents who sometimes cannot agree on much simpler issues? Who gets the final word in this situation? Most divorced parents are required to co-parent. This means that decisions concerning major issues are to be made by both parents working together for the best interests of the children. In most instances, neither parent gets the final say in these issues. Shared Parental responsibility requires joint decision making. In some cases, the Parenting Plan will allow one of the parents to have ultimate decision making on issues concerning education and/or medical care. This provision is not the norm, but rather the exception. So how do two parents who may not get along resolve crucial issues concerning their children? The concept of co-parenting suggests that even though the parents are no longer together, their love and concern for the children should not be affected. Not every happily married couple see “eye to eye” on every issue. However, they try to resolve it by negotiation and finally coming to a conclusion they both can live with. This concept should apply to divorced parents as well. Obviously, this ability to compromise is not always possible. There are other possible alternatives, but each require the assistance of a third party. The parents could go to counseling to “talk it out”. There are several co-parenting classes that the parties can either voluntarily attend or they may be required to attend by Court order. In some cases, a Parenting Coordinator or a Guardian Ad Litem might be involved. Of course, the last resort would be to file a motion and ask the Judge to decide where and how a child should attend school this Fall. I will tell you that Judges would much rather have the parents make this decision. I suggest that at a time like this you both focus on what is the best solution for the children and put any hostility to the side. This is a difficult time for everyone and if a child sees parents working together their stress level will be significantly lowered.

ou may be surprised to learn that 60% of all American adults have no estate plan in place. The distribution of your property, the care and custody of your minor children and the identification of who directs the administration of your estate is left to the default laws of intestate succession created by the State of Florida. So, in simpler terms: if you do not have a will or trust, the State will make all your decisions for you. Another surprising estate planning fact is that on average those people who do have an estate plan, revise or update their documents every 19 years. Imagine if you have done your estate plan in 1999 and never updated it. How different are your financial and personal circumstances now? Would the choices you made, the people you identified and the concerns you addressed, still be appropriate today? Probably not.

Estate planning is often narrowly viewed as a process undertaken to plan for the orderly and efficient transfer of assets at death. A broader viewpoint is that estate planning is life planning, encompassing disability, retirement, and creditor protection, as well as who gets what after you are gone. If you have minor children, your planning should address the support of yourself, your spouse, and your children, if you become disabled. It should provide a source of funds for children’s education, daycare, and medical expenses, as well as for the regular expenses of running your household. If you have adult children, are you confident that your heirs will not recklessly spend their inheritance? Do you have any concerns that their inheritance may be lost to creditors or in a divorce? Do you have an adult child with special needs? Finally, do you own a small business? Have you considered what might happen to your business after you are gone? Do you have a business succession plan or buy/sell agreement in place? A proper estate plan should allow you to control your property while you are alive and well. It should also provide for you and your family if you become disabled. And it should allow you to give what you have to whom you want, in the way you want, all while minimizing the taxes, professional fees and costs to your loved ones. If you do not have an estate plan, or if your plan requires revision, I recommend that you meet with a qualified estate planning attorney. Once you do have an estate plan, I urge you to review it every two to three years to make sure it still meets your needs. Life can change in an instant. Cosmetic surgeons will change the name of a straightforward procedure in an attempt to gain new patients, attract attention to “their” practice, or to lure an uneducated patient into thinking that “their” procedure is somehow “better” than what has been done thousands of times before by well-qualified plastic surgeons. I will attempt to clarify this terminology with an explanation of facelift technique and indications. The original “facelift procedure” was performed by Dr. Eugen Höllander in 1901, and involved elevating with tightening the facial skin only. The procedure has evolved and undergone multiple transformations. Today, a facelift typically involves elevation of the skin on cheek and neck with tightening of the underlying muscle (the SMAS in the cheek and the platysma on the neck). The 21st Century approach to facial rejuvenation focuses on a structured reconstruction as well with fat grafting and tissue tightening. As the skin ages there is a progressive loss of collagen and elastic which results in increased skin laxity. This skin change, coupled with loss of the underlying soft tissue volume, results in prominent nasolabial folds, jowls, and neck bands. In order to improve the appearance of the face and neck, a skin tightening procedure should be performed. This can be accomplished several ways, lifting and removing excess skin, a skin resurfacing procedure with laser or chemical peel, or restoring loss of soft tissue volume with fat or synthetic fillers. These techniques can be used alone or in a combination depending on each person’s individual facial anatomy and appearance goals. In describing face lifting procedures, the facial skin is elevated, the underlying muscle called the SMAS is tightened and the excess skin is removed. When the skin laxity is limited to the cheek area, a mini – or short-scar facelift, can be performed (scar is limited to the area in the front of the ear). If neck skin laxity and neck bands are present, additional incisions can be made behind the ear and under the chin. This technique is referred to as a full facelift, or face and neck lift. The Lifestyle lift and S-Lift have similar incisions with limited undermining or elevation of the face and neck skin. If there is heaviness or sagging of the eyebrow then a browlift or forehead lift is performed. The aging appearance of the upper and lower eyelids is treated with a blepharoplasty and is a separate procedure from a facelift. In certain cases, depending on the patient’s facial appearance, a facelift is performed in combination with soft tissue volume addition by fat transfer, skin smoothing with a chemical peel or laser resurfacing. All of the procedures can be performed under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s medical history and comfort level. The most important factor to consider when making a decision to have elective cosmetic surgery is the surgeon, the facility, and the anesthesia provider. Only have facial plastic surgery by a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery in an accredited outpatient facility or hospital. Anesthesia should be administered by a licensed, board certified anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). Facial rejuvenation surgery can be performed safely and effectively under the correct circumstances. Don’t get caught up in the marketing tactics of “cosmetic” doctors who may not have the credentials or experience to perform injections or surgical procedures they advertise.

A Brief Overview of Florida Probate

robate is a process that occurs after a death to 1) collect the person’s assets that are in his/her name alone; 2) determine if there are any creditors; and 3) distribute the person’s property to the proper beneficiaries. Probate is necessary even if a Will is in place because the Will must be validated by the Court, and also because the Personal Representative under the Will is only allowed to act under the Will once a Judge has given that authority. During a probate administration – a process that generally lasts from four to six months for a Summary Administration, and up to a year for a Formal Administration – the court assesses the assets of a loved one who has passed, first paying off valid claims filed by creditors, then distributing the remaining assets to the surviving beneficiaries. The fees and cost involved with filing a Probate, as well as Funeral Expenses (up to $6,000) are the first expenses to be reimbursed from the decedent’s assets to the person who paid for them. Certain assets do not fall under probate, including: ▸ Retirement accounts with a named beneficiary ▸ Life insurance proceeds with a named beneficiary ▸ Property that is held by a trustee rather than the deceased owner, i.e. a Revocable trust ▸ Property held by two people, such as a home or a bank account ▸ A payable-on-death bank account Probate Administration is not always necessary; however, it is always best to speak to an attorney about whether or not it is necessary for your particular situation. Types of probate – a very brief summary ▸ Summary Administration. If the assets of an estate are less than $75,000, excluding FL Statute exempt assets, or if the person died more than 2 years ago, a Petition for Summary Administration can be used. The executor of the will (or if there is no Will, then a family member or other beneficiary) is responsible for filing the paperwork, notifying the beneficiaries and formally serving notice that the petition has been filed. If the court approves the petition, the property is released to those who inherit it. ▸ Formal Administration. Larger estates require formal probate, where a personal representative is appointed. The Court will issue Letters of Administration, which gives the Personal Representative the authority to settle the estate, either through the terms of a valid will, or if there is no will then by distributing assets to beneficiaries according to Florida Statutes, once all valid claims have been paid.

THE DONOWAY CENTER NEW HOPE FOR PANCREATIC CANCER PATIENTS Patients diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer have few treatment options. However, a new procedure called Irreversible Electroporation or IRE for short has changed that for many patients who are seeing a doubling and tripling of their life expectancies. Dr. Robert Donoway, who has one of the largest International experiences for performing this procedure on the pancreas and liver is a Hollywood based, Sloan Kettering trained Pancreatic Surgical Oncologist, and former medical director of two of the local cancer programs remains among a very small handful of Pancreatic surgeons who perform the procedure which is done in the operating room as an outpatient.

During the procedure, Dr. Donoway places fine needle probes under direct ultrasound guidance into and around the pancreatic tumor while carefully avoiding critical structures. High voltage current up to 3000 volts is then delivered in 90-microsecond pulses synchronized with the patient’s heart rhythm to avoid any cardiac problems. The pulses destroy the cancer cell membranes which then causes the tumor to die and be absorbed by the body. The average procedure lasts approximately 1-2 hours and the patients may be discharged the following day. A brief recovery means the patient can start chemotherapy and radiation that much sooner. Dr. Donoway is participating in several clinical studies identifying the best chemotherapy and immunotherapies to be used along with IRE. Dr. Donoway states, “The results so far have been very encouraging and we have begun using it for other select cancers. The longest survivors are now out over 5 years and without evidence of cancer recurrence. I have revised policy to establish a Use of Force Review Board, appointed new members to the Professional Standards Committee, established progressive training protocols and improved recruitment practices to ensure we are hiring the most qualified applicants. Despite these advancements, we must do more. Recently, I’ve had several opportunities to sit down with community leaders and advocates for change to listen to their concerns and discuss areas of strength and opportunities for growth. Our dialogues were progressive, and the BSO command staff and I welcomed their input. The focus of our discussions was on policing practices. Today, law enforcement remains the only branch of government that is required to respond to every situation where there is an immediate need or threat. Often, these needs are met by people in crisis, who are hurting, who have been wronged, are suffering or have been defrauded. Our deputies are trained in conflict resolution and de-escalation; the majority (soon to be all) are trained in crisis intervention. Yet, as a profession, our policing approaches must continue to evolve. Since becoming sheriff, I have made a commitment to investing resources in areas where they are needed most. Aside from the aforementioned changes, I have restructured the Law Enforcement Trust Fund process to ensure it is more fair and equitable to serve nonprofit organizations that focus on issues vital to our community. We have established the BSO Legacy Program offering scholarships and internships to minority individuals interested in a career in public safety. We have established a Youth Mentorship Program focused on mentoring youth and developing them into strong, responsible civically-engaged adults. Change will not come overnight. However, these changes are just the beginning of establishing systemic solutions toward a more unified Broward. I will continue to make progressive changes for the benefit of this community. At BSO, we are listening. We are evolving. We are prioritizing the needs of the people we serve. And we are committed to working together with you to maintain trust and strengthen our community.
