MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

A

DAVIE UPDATE

t a recent council meeting, Marty Kiar, Broward County Property Appraiser, gave a brief overview of what the Broward County Property Appraiser does.

Mr. Kiar advised that the Town of Davie was doing well because the residential real estate market was thriving now, driving up the value of property taxes. The taxable value for the Town of Davie for 2020 was about $10.77 billion. The Town saw an increase of about 3.9% in taxable value raising this to about $11.2 billion. Mr. Kiar stated that this means that if the Town kept the millage rate the same, regarding property values, the Town would see about $2.1 million more in revenue. Mr. Kiar provided some exemption statistics about the Town of Davie:

single-family home in the Town of Davie was $470,000 and the average taxable value was $306,000. Mr. Kiar also introduced the Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office (BCPA) new Owner Alert Program. Mr. Kiar advised that people were filing fake deeds with the recording divisions throughout the State of Florida then trying to extort homeowners for money. The Owner Alert System allows residents to register on the BCPA’s website to receive an alert anytime any document changing ownership of their property was received. I wanted to make sure that you are aware of a Consumer Alert issued by the Office of the Attorney General warning Floridians of a new COVID-19 vaccination status scam. There are reports of fraudulent text messages being sent to Floridians asking for driver license details “in order to remake licenses that show vaccination status.” The text messages provide a link that

sends targets to a spoofed Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website with input boxes requesting Social Security and driver license information. The spoofed website includes the Department of Health logo. Anyone receiving this text message should not respond nor click on any links. Any callers to the CHD complaining about the text message may be directed to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division to file a report by calling 1-866-9NO-SCAM or visiting http:// www.myfloridalegal.com/ The Town recently launched a Veterans Voucher Program to honor local veterans with a $25 meal voucher. Our veterans will redeem their vouchers from November 5 through November 14, 2021, at participating Davie restaurants. We have more than 10 local Davie restaurants that have confirmed their participation in the program and we could not be any happier. Please note, vouchers will have no cash value and alcoholic beverages will not be covered by the program. For more information on this program, please contact the Assistant Director for Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Chad Pezoldt at 954-797-1151 or cpezoldt@davie-fl.gov. Have a great DAVIE month filled with Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11, Southeast Circuit Rodeo Finals on Nov. 12 & 13, and the return of our wonderful Holiday Craft Show on Nov. 20 & 21.
