Best Family Event Celebrate the Arts Day

amilies flocked to Weston Town Center for the fourth annual Celebrate the Arts Day. The afternoon of art drew a record crowd as all ages enjoyed the chance to express their inner artist while enjoying performances by many of Weston’s talented students. Creative expression is what Celebrate the Arts Day is all about. Children were encouraged to discover their artistic skills at Young At Art Museum’s open air studio, while aspiring musicians of all ages could try out instruments at the hands-on “Instrument Petting Zoo”. As in past years, the graffiti wall was the most popular attraction. The giant plywood structure stretched 28 feet long and seven feet tall providing plenty of space for everyone to leave their mark. One of the reasons Celebrate the Arts Day was voted Best Family Event is because students play a big part in the program. The Cypress Bay High School Ceramics Club and Photography Club and the Western High School Rocket Club all had booths with interactive activities. Celebrate the Arts Day is presented by the Arts Council of Greater Weston, City of Weston and Weston Town Center.

eston World Fest was a chance to celebrate the cultural diversity in our community. More than 1,000 residents enjoyed the festivities at the inaugural event which took place at Weston Regional Park. Throughout the afternoon, guests “traveled the globe” visiting 20 different country booths representing the homelands of Weston residents. The Passport Challenge added an educational aspect. Children were given a passport and encouraged to visit the various booths, where they learned about its culture and history and participated in a game or activity in order to get it stamped. Weston World Fest also exposed guests to the tastes and sounds of different countries. Entertainment included everything from cultural dance groups to Brazilian samba music and the sounds of Caribbean steel drums. Local restaurants were on hand, giving guests a chance to sample authentic cuisine. Weston World Fest was presented by the Arts Council of Greater Weston and the City of Weston.
