Happy Valentine’s Day!
M
any of us will be purchasing our chocolates and flowers for our sweethearts, or writing our dearest a love letter or two, on February 14th. Valentine’s Day has evolved from a somber Christian day of remembrance into a day for all of us to celebrate those we love most. Be sure to look for some great Valentine’s Day gift ideas and deals in this month’s Our City. Here are a few fun facts you may not have known about Valentine’s Day: ▸▸ About 1 in 30 pet owners purchase a Valentine’s Day present for their pet. ▸▸ Much like kids at school, in Victorian times Valentine’s Day cards were sent anonymously. ▸▸ Over 800 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year and almost all of those cards are purchased within a week of February 14th. ▸▸ In 1573, Britain’s King Henry VII declared February 14th Valentines Day (unfortunately his son wasn’t a very good Valentine). ▸▸ Americans buy more than 30 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate each year. ▸▸ Almost 200 million roses are expected to be purchased on Valentine’s Day this year. So, this February 14th, when you give your most cherished loved one that something special, you will know the rest of the story. Happy Valentine’s Day! Sincerely,
Christy & Terry Jaillet

Get in Gear & Go the Extra Mile - It’s Time for the 10th Annual Tour de Broward BY BEVERLY PERKINS
M
any know about the annual internationally acclaimed bicycle race, Le Tour de France, which has occurred each July for the over the past century. South Florida may not have that many years or miles under its belt, but the 10th Annual ANF Group Tour de Broward will take place on February 24th at Miramar Regional Park from 7:00 am-1:00 pm to help children and families at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (JDCH). This year, thousands are expected to come out again and exercise to help children and families at JDCH, the region’s largest pediatric facility serving Broward, Palm Beach, and northern MiamiDade counties.
Tour de Broward offers something for every age, physical ability and level of fitness. The 50K and 100K bicycle rides, 5K timed run and 3K walk is a community fundraiser sponsored once again by the ANF Group. There will also be the sports-themed “Power of Play Kid Zone” which will provide healthy, fun activities for children ages 13 and younger. Registration fees range from $10-$40 depending upon the event one signs up for and the sign-up date. “This is an opportunity for South Florida to assist our efforts to provide safe, high quality, cost-effective, patient and family-centered care. We hope everyone will want to participate February 24,” said Memorial Healthcare System President & CEO Aurelio M. Fernandez, III, FACHE.
Last year more than 7,500 participated raising more than $550,000, positively impacting more than 80,000 kids who required outpatient visits, surgery, admissions and observation stays during the year. Funds raised at the 2019 event will be earmarked for the expansion of pediatric facilities, programs, and services at JDCH. So far, in its nine-year history, the Tour de Broward has raised more than $3.7 million to aid the growth of the Hollywood-based hospital that provides care regardless of one’s ability to pay. The 100K ride starts at 7:00 a.m., run at 8:00 am and walk at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration and day-of registration fees range from $15-$50, depending on the event and sign-up date. Participants can register in advance at www.tourdebroward.com or at the park on the day of the event. For riders there may be an additional fundraising commitment, although some exclusions apply. For those unable to participate on the day of the event, a virtual participation donation can be made online at tourdebroward.com. Miramar Regional Park is located at 16801 Miramar Parkway, Miramar. To learn more about Tour de Broward visit www. tourdebroward.com. For sponsorship opportunities, call (954) 2657241. For general information about the event, call (954)905-5633.

7 Things You Must Know Before Putting Your Miramar Home Up for Sale Kim Cox
Remember not so long ago, when you could make your fortune in real estate. It was nothing then, to buy a home, wait a short while, and then sell it at a large profit. And then do it all over again. Well, as you probably know, times have changed. As good as the market is right now, home prices are still below what they were at their peak. Buyers are far more discriminating and it’s more critical than ever to learn what you need to know to avoid costly seller mistakes in order to sell your home fast and for the most amount of money. Selling your home is one of the most important steps in your life. You need the tools to maximize your profits, maintain control, and reduce the stress that comes with the homeselling process. A new report has just been released which reveals 7 costly mistakes that most
homeowners make when selling their home, and a 9 Step System that can help you sell your home fast and for the most amount of money. This industry report shows clearly how the traditional ways of selling homes have become increasingly less and less effective in today's market. The fact of the matter is that fully three quarters of homesellers don't get what they want for their homes and become disillusioned and - worse -financially disadvantaged when they put their homes on the market.
As this report uncovers, most homesellers make 7 deadly mistakes that cost them literally thousands of dollars. The good news is that each and every one of these mistakes is entirely preventable. In answer to this issue, industry insiders have prepared a free special report entitled "The 9 Step System to Get Your Home Sold Fast and For Top Dollar". To hear a brief recorded message about how to order your FREE copy of this report call toll-free
1-855-603-3984 and enter 3000. You can call any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Get your free special report NOW to find out how you can get the most money for your home.

The 411 on the Volunteer 911 BY BEVERLY PERKINS
O
ne hundred and forty volunteer members, mostly Miramar residents, make up The Miramar Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) which was created over fourteen years ago by the 2004 Emergency Coordinator Romeo Lavarias. Back then, the CERT team actively participated in a variety of City events and assisted residents after Hurricane Wilma. Unfortunately, over time the CERT program became inactive due to staff changes and budget cuts. But luckily two years ago, The Division of Emergency Management (DEM), under the direction of Fire Rescue Chief Robert Palmer, reestablished the Miramar CERT program and recruited new members. Division Chief Scott Rector, Emergency Manager Romeo Lavarias, and Emergency Planner Tatiana Belmont restarted the program and contacted previous members who renewed their interest in remaining with the CERT program. Funding was then secured to help resume the CERT program via a grant from Volunteer Florida. Since 2016, CERT members have volunteered at numerous City events such as “National Night Out”, and they assisted with distributing water and meals to City residents in need after Hurricane
Irma. For the first time, Miramar Fire-Rescue has held monthly advance training and taught the team courses such as Basic CPR, Advanced CPR, Stop the Bleed, Radio Communications, and Basic and Advanced Search and Rescue Techniques. “The CERT team members have repeatedly shown their dedication to the CERT program and have on, numerous occasions, been deployed and proven to be an important asset to Miramar Fire Rescue. The members without a doubt have made our job easier during times of need. Our plan is to keep this program growing alongside our department well into the future,” stated Robert Palmer, Miramar Fire Chief. Over fifty CERT members and their guests attended the first annual appreciation dinner at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Long-standing CERT member John Gardiner who passed away in March of 2014 was recognized for his work at both the fire and police departments. An “In Memoriam” award was presented to his widow Janet Gardiner. Also, in memory of John’s leadership and dedication to the CERT team, an award aptly named the “John Gardiner Leadership and Excellence Award” will be given to those CERT members that have shown
extraordinary leadership skills. The prestigious “John Gardiner Leadership and Excellence Award” went to Veronica and Corbin Dorn. Outstanding Service Awards went to Durlan Castro, Lynn Williams, Kiki Fortin, Luna Rosado, Oscar Avila, Kris Poff, and John Stone. A “Community Partnership Award” was presented to Blue Marlin Contracting and Costco Wholesale. Additionally, recognition certificates were given to thirty deserving members. “We are so proud of our CERT volunteers; their dedication and enthusiasm continue to motivate us to bring the program to the next level. With this appreciation dinner we really wanted to make it a very special and enjoyable night for our awesome volunteers who really bring it and then some,” exclaimed Scott Rector, Division Chief of Emergency Management.

Heart health: Important questions to ask your doctor. Your heart is like the engine in your car. It’s the main component that makes everything run. And just like your car requires maintenance to keep things running smoothly, your heart needs care on a regular basis too. “The center of the cardiovascular system is the Robert Cubeddu, MD heart, It’s responsible for your vitality,” says Robert Cubeddu, MD, Chairman of the Tomsich Department of Cardiology at Cleveland Clinic Florida. Taking care of your heart is essential for a long life. Heart disease is the number one killer of adults in the United States. Some heart issues are genetic and others are caused by personal choices. Cleveland Clinic Florida cardiologist Diego Sadler, MD explains, “Not only is it important for patients to listen to their doctor, it’s also important for them to ask their physician the right questions.” Drs. Cubeddu and Sadler provide general Diego Sadler, MD answers to these important questions about heart health. However, your doctor knows you best and can provide personalized answers to help ensure that you understand how to take proper care of your heart. Will blood tests and other screenings tell me if my heart is healthy? Knowing your BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels will give you a clearer picture of your cardiovascular strengths or risks. “These numbers can be indicators for issues that can lead to cardiovascular problems,” says Dr. Sadler.
Does my family medical history put me at a greater risk for heart disease? Anyone can be at risk, but a family history of heart issues – such as heart attack and heart disease – can mean you have increased risk for developing heart problems. If this is the case, healthy behaviors may be even more important for you. Will smoking increase my chances of having heart disease? Individuals who smoke are more likely to experience heart attacks than non-smokers. “The sooner you quit the better,” advises Dr. Cubeddu. Are diet and exercise important for keeping my heart in tip-top shape? A healthy diet and exercise are some of the best tools you can use to keep your heart healthy. At least 30 minutes of exercise, five days a week, is recommended. Eat foods that are low in fat, salt and calories. Include fresh vegetables and fruit, whole grains, lean proteins and nuts. “Having an open dialogue with your physician and asking questions are the best ways for you to learn about what to do before cardiovascular issues arise,” says Dr. Cubeddu. To learn more about what you can do to keep your heart healthy, visit ClevelandClinicFlorida.org/Heart. Don’t Let Bad Breath Ruin Your Valentine’s Day BY DR. ISABEL SUATE ad breath, also known as halitosis is embarrassing! No one likes to be told their breath smells bad and it can be a sensitive issue to discuss. People who know or are concerned that they have bad breath feel uncomfortable, self-conscious and may limit social interactions, talking and smiling less. As embarrassing as it can be, you are not alone; bad breath can happen to everybody, especially in the morning, but if that morning breath does not go away after brushing and mouthwash but becomes lasting, then you have chronic bad breath or halitosis. For this reason, let’s review the causes of bad breath and tips to avoid it, whether you are going for a Valentine’s Day romantic date, aiming for the perfect kiss or just want to feel more comfortable with the people around you. Causes of Halitosis ▸▸ Dental Issues: About 90% of the cases result from the mouth and bacteria that thrive there, producing sulfur gases and other compounds with an unpleasant smell. Dental cavities and periodontal pockets from gum disease are extra places to hide bacteria and are difficult to clean with regular brushing and flossing, contributing to bad breath. ▸▸ Mouth, Nose and throat infections that can lead to extra mucus on the back of the nose and throat (postnasal drip) and feeding bacteria off that mucus causing a stinky odor. ▸▸ Dry mouth: Saliva rinses unwanted leftovers, helps break down food and helps protect against cavities and infections, so if you’re not producing enough saliva one of the signs may be halitosis. A lack of saliva or dry mouth can be caused by medications, some medical conditions, smoking, drinking alcohol or too much caffeine. ▸▸ Smoking and tobacco leave a characteristic odor, but they can cause dry mouth. Also, smokers are more prone to gum disease which can add to halitosis. ▸▸ Dental appliances such as dentures or braces, make it easier for food to become trapped and cause a buildup of bacteria that cause a bad odor. Also, loose dentures can cause sores and infections that can lead to bad breath. ▸▸ If you are brushing well and flossing every day and your dentist has ruled out oral conditions as a cause for halitosis, you could have another problem such as a sinus gastric reflux, diabetes, liver or kidney disease; and you should consult with your physician. Tips to Go from Bad to Good ▸▸ Brush and floss at least twice a day for two minutes and floss daily. And don’t forget to clean your tongue, if you stick out your tongue and see a white or brownish coating, it could harbor bad breath causing bacteria. Brush it or use a tongue scraper. ▸▸ Use mouthwash, it can help kill bacteria and temporarily mask bad breath. It will not substitute the benefits of adequate brushing and flossing. ▸▸ Keep the saliva flowing, by eating healthy foods that require a lot of chewing such as carrots and apples. You can also stimulate saliva production by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking sugar-free candies. In some cases, artificial saliva might be recommended by your dentist. ▸▸ Quit smoking is not only good for your breath and your mouth, but for all your body. Remember to keep regular visits with your dentist to find the best strategies and tools to keep your teeth and gums healthy and a fresh breath this Valentine’s Day and all year round.

ASK THE EXPERT
Does Your Child Have Growing Pains Or Are They Just Flat Footed? BY ROBERT H. SHEINBERG, D.P.M., D.A.B.P.S., F.A.C.F.A.S.
F
oot, ankle and leg problems in a growing child are also considered to be growing pains in the bones and muscles of the lower extremity. While in a small number of cases this might be true, in a majority of the cases the pains that plague these children and teenagers may be caused by lower extremity malalignment problems including flat feet. Excessively flat feet or feet that point to the outside while walking or running are the primary causes. Many of these children are also knock-kneed. They can also have tight muscles, especially the calf muscles, hamstrings and hips. Signs and symptoms include leg pain, especially at night. There is pain with activities, especially along the inside of the knee, lower leg bone, ankle and foot including the arch. They often have premature fatigue with activity and they avoid activities and sports. Lower back pain may also be felt.
It is important for these children to avoid going barefooted. Changing shoes to get more support will certainly help as will having an insole or a custom molded orthotic made to realign the foot and ankle. In most cases this will eliminate the pain overnight. Many of these kids have flat feet and tight calf muscles. In those cases, we stretch the calf muscles before we make an orthotic to give the calf muscle flexibility and the ankle better movement. When an orthotic is made the children are back to playing all sports and activities at a much higher level than before. The prognosis is almost always excellent.

COMMUNITY NEWS
My Brother’s Keeper Scores Big On and Off the Field BY BEVERLY PERKINS
J
ust a few years ago, in September of 2014, President Barack Obama issued a challenge to cities, towns, counties, and tribes across the country. The challenge was to become a “My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Community”. The initiative for the launch of MBK was to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure that all young people can reach their full potential. However, a mentoring program such as this requires a call-to-action for community members and prominent community figures like mayors, to enact sustainable change through policy, programs, and partnerships. Luckily, Miramar has Mayor Messam who accepted the challenge to implement a coherent “cradle-to-college-and-career strategy” for improving the life outcomes. Messam is just one out of the nearly 200 mayors, tribal leaders, and county executives across 43 states and the District of Columbia that have accepted the “MBK Community Challenge”. The six goals of the Challenge are: ▸▸ To ensure all children enter school cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally ready ▸▸ To ensure all children read at grade level by 3rd grade ▸▸ To ensure all youth graduate from high school ▸▸ To ensure all youth complete post-secondary
education or training ▸▸ To ensure all youth out of school are employed ▸▸ To ensure all youth remain safe from violent crime Mayor Messam has laid the groundwork for his “MBK Community” by accepting the President’s challenge, convening a “Local Action Summit” to build Miramar’s “MBK Community”, conducting a policy review and forming recommendations for action, and launching a plan of action, next steps, and a timetable for review. All young men in Miramar high schools are encouraged to attend monthly events for “My Brother’s Keeper”. The group meets the 4th Monday of each month where they will be exposed to career opportunities, taught self-discipline and how to be
high achieving men, meet inspirational role models, and participate in community activities. Recently, Jason Jenkins, Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs invited Mayor Messam and his MBK mentees to enjoy a day out at Hard Rock Stadium. “My Brother’s Keeper Program is committed to mentoring our young men by teaching them life skills and providing professional development opportunities with our corporate friends. It’s amazing to show our mentees the Miami Dolphins Boardroom where contracts are negotiated and see the final product of football players playing on the field. We are grooming future leaders,” exclaimed Mayor Messam. For more information on joining My Brother’s Keeper, please email elaroche@miramarfl.gov or call 954-602-3198.

MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF
February is American Heart Month
“KALLIE”
BY MIRAMAR FIRE-RESCUE CHIEF ROBERT E. PALMER
F
ebruary is American Heart Month, and all of us here at Miramar Fire Rescue along with the American Heart Association would like to take this time to help bring awareness and education to everyone in our community on heart disease. Did you know the heart does more physical work than any other muscle in the body? In a 70-year lifetime, the average heart will beat more than 2.5 billion times. That’s over 2,000 gallons of blood pumped a day. Cardiovascular disease which includes both heart disease and stroke is the number one cause of death not only in the United States but globally as well. 17.9 million people die annually. There is a good chance you know at least one person affected but heart disease or stroke. But together we can change the statistics with just a few changes in our own lifestyles. Healthy diet changes and exercise are key. We all have busy lives and sometimes that drive-thru is much easier than preparing a healthy home cooked meal. Oftentimes, we are so tired after work that we are not motivated for the gym. These are hard habits to break but your heart will take care of you later if you start taking care of it now.
of the
Month
This is our little princess Kallie, she is a pocket pit bull. Fat girl Kallie is 9 months now, she loves all the attention. Her favorite person is her big brother pit bull Gucci and her human sister and brothers. There’s nothing Kallie wouldn’t do for a treat, she loves food.. Her favorite thing to do is prance around the house. Kallie snorts like a little pig that she is. She was last seen snoring on the couch.
Your Pet Could Be Our
Pet of the Month! There are so many websites that offer free recipes and workouts. There is something for everyone; Find a plan that works for you. Some of the benefits you will gain from these changes are not only a healthier heart but also weight loss, natural mood-boosting, lower blood pressure, a boost in good cholesterol, bone loss prevention, improved circulation and fewer visits to the doctor’s office. Do you or someone you know already have cardiovascular disease? If so, do you know how to recognize the signs of a heart attack or stroke? A few signs and symptoms are chest discomfort, discomfort that radiates down the arm, into the back or up to the jaw, shortness of breath, nausea, a cold sweat, dizzy or lightheadedness are some signs. Signs of a stroke can be facial drooping, arm or leg weakness and or speech difficulty. Sometimes a heart attack won’t have any signs or symptoms. We call that a silent MI which happens to be more common in women than men. For more information on heart attack and stroke, talk to your doctor. Sometimes a heart attack can result in sudden cardiac arrest. There should be at least one person in the household who knows CPR. A quick 4-hour class can save lives. LEGALLY SPEAKING
Avoiding Probate: Debunking Common Myths BY BRUCE IDEN, ESQUIRE ost people want to avoid the need to probate their estate as the process is expensive, time consuming and public. Yet, there are commonly held misconceptions surrounding this topic which often lead to uniformed decisions resulting in the need to have an estate probated. While the best way to avoid probate is to discuss your situation with an experienced estate planning attorney, let’s take a look at just a few probate and estate planning myths: I’ll leave my home to my children through a will to avoid probate. This is the most common estate planning myth! The truth is that inherited property cannot be retitled, or sold, without the participation and approval of the probate court, which requires probate administration for the deceased. Adding my child to my deed is a great way to avoid probate. While your property will indeed pass without probate after you die, there is much risk when adding someone to your deed. The child’s interest in the home is not shielded from creditors via Homestead protection if it is not their primary residence. A fractional interest in the property owned by a person who does not reside there will not qualify for Homestead tax benefits, so your property taxes will increase. What if your child has creditors or is involved in a lawsuit? Or what if he or she divorces? Finally, as your child is listed as an owner, they must participate and sign off on any decision to sell or refinance the property. I like to save money. Can I obtain the necessary forms and handle the probate of an estate myself without the expense of an attorney? In Florida, almost all probate cases require an attorney. There is a narrow exception for very small estates where the amount of assets is only sufficient to pay for the funeral and final expenses of the decedent. My cousin’s estate was settled in just a few months in Michigan, so I’m expecting the same experience. In Florida, most simple estates can be probated within a year. But keep in mind that because of staffing shortages and backlogs in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the process can easily take as long as 18 months. More complex estates, taxable estates, or estates with disputes among family members may take several years to settle. sA revocable living trust can help you avoid probate, but only if your trust is fully funded. With some important exceptions, all of your real property, personal property and business interests should be transferred into your trust while you are alive. If your trust is not properly funded, many assets may still have to go through a probate after your death before reaching your trust and its beneficiaries, causing delay, additional cost and avoidable complexity. Life can change in an instant. What are you waiting for?

Domestic Violence Awareness
BY CHIEF DEXTER WILLIAMS omestic violence / intimate partner violence can be defined by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence as “a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence.” Domestic violence can occur anywhere and to anyone regardless of socio-economic status, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, educational background, etc. It is a crime of manipulation that anyone can fall prey to. In 2017, there were 285 domestic violence reports to law enforcement in the city of Miramar. Victims are not only in physical danger, but they face emotional damage as well. It is important to recognize signs of domestic violence to be able to combat against it. The following are ways an abuser gains control over their partners. This is a checklist designed to help you determine is you or someone you know is in a battering relationship. Red Flags of Abusive Relationship Does your partner… ▸▸ Utilize intimidation; including threats to hurt or kill you and or family members? ▸▸ Call you names or puts you down? ▸▸ Have control over what you do or where you go and financial resources? ▸▸ Isolate you from family and friends? ▸▸ Not trust you, become easily jealous? ▸▸ Threaten to report you to the authorities for something you didn’t do? ▸▸ Threaten to have you deported, or baker acted? ▸▸ Destroy your property? ▸ Minimize abusive behavior, blame you, alcohol, or drugs for it? 1 6/20/18 5:13▸PM ▸▸ Display weapons to threaten you? ▸▸ Force you to engage in unwanted sexual acts? ▸▸ Grab, push, hit, punch, slap, kick, choke, or bite you? Threaten to commit suicide if you leave?Often times, people question why a person would stay in an abusive relationship. It is important to understand that anybody can be a victim of domestic violence. The abuser uses power to manipuRecognized for success in teaching by the Who’s Who among American Teachers late and control a person, and anyone can easily fall prey to this. Also, fear often contributes to why a person may stay in an abusive relationship. The victim/ survivor may be motivated by love to stay, but it is important to remember that the abuser is not motivated by feelings of love or intimacy. Love should never hurt someone. Rather than question why a victim/survivor of domestic violence stays in an abusive relationship, let’s turn our focus to holding the abuser accountable, and question why they would choose to harm and endanger someone. Yes, batterers can control their behavior. Millions of people are abused each year, but there is help out there. If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, it is important to get help. Help is free and may provide guidance on further steps to take. The following numbers are resources that a survivor may find helpful: Miramar Police Department Victim Services Unit: (954) 602-4130 Women in Distress (Domestic Violence Center and Shelter): (954) 761-1133 Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida Family Violence Unit: (954) 358-5644 Broward County Clerk of Court Domestic Violence Division: (954) 831-5570 Florida Council Against Domestic Violence: 1-800-500-1119 Edwards Tutoring offers in-home private tutoring services in Math, Science, English, Test National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233 Preparation (SAT,ACT, GED) and Home Work help. LOVE FOR THE 911
Over fifty Miramar Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members and their guests attended the first annual appreciation dinner at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Besides great food and fun, members received recognition for their volunteer efforts, achievements, and contributions. See the full story on page 16.
WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND – The annual “Holiday Senior Walk” brought many
out including special guests from Miramar Fire-Rescue. The 1K walk took place outside Miramar City Hall on a gorgeous South Florida day to show seniors how walking helps achieve and maintain wellness.
KINGS FOR A DAY – The Miramar Police Department along with Miramar Fire-Rescue handed out gifts to
celebrate Three Kings Day with the residents at Haven Lakes Estates. Tradition is that a large meal is prepared and served for family and friends but receiving holiday cheer from local city officials certainly added to the festivities.
MORE THAN MILK & COOKIES – SilverLakes residents
were able to enjoy coffee, juice, and donuts during “Breakfast with Santa”. The holiday event, sponsored by Vicki & Bob Minnaugh from AAA Realty Group, included a Hanukkah selfie station, snowman tattoos, reindeer art activity, raffles, and of course, photos with the Santa. Unwrapped toys were donated to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
TOY STORY - Miramar Fire-Rescue joined forces with NBC6 and Telemundo51 for another successful toy drive. They are thankful to everyone that generously donated to help families near and far celebrate the holidays.
STOP, DROP, ROLL (OR RIDE) – Station 70 invited Miramar Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members to ride-along. Mother/daughter team Kiki and Monica enjoyed their experience.

The Henderson’s left their hometown of Miramar to vacation in the Caribbean where they spent their time in Haiti at the Royal Decameron Indigo Beach Resort and Spa. The Haitian jewel on the Cote des Arcadins is surrounded by an indigo blue sea, white sand beaches, and a mountainous backdrop. The adventurous family enjoyed every minute of the sights, the food, the charm, and the culture of the Caribbean country, but they still managed to take a picturesque photo with Our City Miramar.
