Chen Senior Medical Center opened its newest location right here in Hollywood! The practice offers seniors a whole new way of accessing medical services and provides a superior level of care. Chen Senior Medical Center is a family-owned primary and specialty care practice committed to delivering superior healthcare to Medicare-eligible seniors.

The practice is Chen Medical’s first in Hollywood and is accepting new patients. They offer quality, empathetic, well-coordinated care that detects issues before they become more serious.

Dr. Jenling James Chen founded Chen Senior Medical after his own experience with a life-threatening illness. In 2003, Dr. Chen was diagnosed with cancer and given only two months to live. He and his family experienced firsthand what it was like to be on the receiving end of patient care, struggling to access quality medical care while fighting for his life.

Dr. Chen recovered, defying his original diagnosis. And he knew he had to do something to help others in their time of need to overcome the frustrations he experienced with the existing fragmented and unsympathetic healthcare system. That’s why he founded Chen Senior Medical Center, to turn the healthcare system around and make it more focused, convenient, and effective for the people who need it most - seniors.

We sat down with Medical Director Yahaida RimolaDeJesus and center director Matthew Kaminske to learn more.

What makes Chen Medical Center different?

Tell us about your team.

Our doctors intentionally see just 400 hundred patients. That is a fraction of the 2,300 to more than 3,000 patients that most doctors see. We never rush time with our patients. We get to know each of our patients and are able to listen. We serve you with kindness, dignity, and respect. The entire staff treats you like family - they take the time to get to know you and your health. You’ll even get your doctor’s cell phone number to use any time you need to. We offer walk-in, same-day, and virtual appointments, and we have on-site tests, screenings, and most medications. We’ll even arrange a ride to your appointment if you need one.

Have you made any accommodations for COVID-19?

The pandemic has been a difficult time for everyone, and we wanted to make sure our patients remained safe and at home at the height of the pandemic. Once the vaccine became available, we began administering the vaccine and the booster to our patients. In addition, we educated them about safety practices, including washing their hands, wearing masks, and maintaining an appropriate distance with family and friends.

We practice ludicrous safety tactics daily to make sure patients feel safe and cared for, including offering virtual visits for patients, instituting patient love calls so our patients had enough medication, food, and personal items – in addition to helping to fight loneliness, and we committed to ludicrous safety at our medical centers.

What can patients expect when they visit your office?

Patients can expect to feel loved, appreciated, listened to, and respected by their doctors and medical center care team. In fact, nearly 95 percent of our patients say that their provider genuinely cares for them, according to a recent survey by third-party research firm Medallia.

According to survey results, 96.7 percent feel respected by their doctor, and 93.3 percent of our patients feel genuine care and concern demonstrated by their doctor. In addition, 90.3 percent felt the same care and concern was demonstrated by the staff at Chen Senior Medical Centers. In 2021, Patients in Hollywood responded YES 98.6% that they were satisfied with their doctor – this was the best score in South Florida and 2nd out of over 100+ centers inside the company.
