Best Community Entertainment Weston Town Center www.WestonTownCenter.net From live music every Friday night to seasonal special events, Weston Town Center provides plenty of entertainment options for the community to enjoy. Weston Town Center is home to several signature events including the Food & Wine Festival every February and Classic Car Show in May. This October it will debut a Home Expo. Also in October is the annual Halloween Spooktacular, when children can dress up in costume and trick-or-treat to mall merchants. The Craft and Talent Show in November shines the focus on our most talented residents. The holiday season is always magical at Weston Town Center. It’s a time for the community to gather in the spirit of the season, regardless of faith. Families fill the streets for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, which always includes a visit from Santa Claus. Yuletide Christmas Carolers serenaded shoppers and diners this past season. The annual Menorah Lighting draws a crowd each night as city leaders and VIP’s help the Chabad of Weston light

the giant menorah. Come spring, it’s a hopping good time when the Easter Bunny arrives for Weston Town Center’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. As the heart of the city, Weston Town Center is home to events like the annual Memorial Day Classic 5K and Weston’s Hometown July 4th Parade. It also plays host to arts and cultural programs such as Celebrate the Arts Day and the Symphony of the Americas’ free outdoor pops concert.

Throughout the afternoon, guests could “travel the globe” visiting different country booths representing the homelands of Weston residents. These exhibits provided guests with a taste for the culture and history of each country. The Passport Challenge added to the educational aspect. Children were given a passport and encouraged to visit the country booths, where they participated in a game or activity in order to get it stamped. Weston World Fest also exposed guests to the tastes and sounds of different countries. Entertainment included everything from Japanese Taiko drummers and a Chinese dragon performance to a Mexican mariachi band and Bollywood dancers. Local restaurants were on hand, giving guests a chance to sample authentic international cuisine. Weston World Fest is presented by the Arts Council of Greater Weston and the City of Weston.

Best Cultural Event Weston World Fest Weston World Fest celebrates the cultural diversity in our community. More than 2,000 people attended this year’s event, which featured 20 interactive country booths, onstage performances and authentic international cuisine.

Best Family Event Celebrate The Arts Day Celebrate the Arts Day inspires artistic creativity and appreciation. The family-friendly event offers hands-on activities for all ages, as well as musical and theatrical performances by Weston’s talented students. Budding artists got a chance to express their creativity at various venues. Young At Art Museum provided crafts, a pottery wheel and print-making. The Chalk Walk allowed even the smallest artists to leave their mark on the streets of Weston Town Center. The center of attraction was the 28-foot Graffiti Wall, where everyone joined together to produce a giant abstract work of art. Celebrate the Arts Day also featured performances by student musicians from Falcon Cove Middle School, Tequesta Trace Middle School and The Sagemont School. Cypress Bay High

School’s award-winning drama department showcased songs and dances from its musical productions. The visual, performing and literary arts were highlighted with educational and interactive booths sponsored by Cypress Bay’s National Art Honor Society, photography club, ceramics club, and robotics club, as well as Western High School’s rocketry club. Other tents featured the Weston Philharmonic Society, Weston Friends of the Library, local children’s authors, and a musical playing patch. Celebrate the Arts Day is presented by the Arts Council of Greater Weston and City of Weston.

Best Free Event Symphony of the Americas Outdoor Pops Concert Weston residents are fortunate to be able to enjoy a free performance by a world-class orchestra each year when Weston Town Center transforms into an open-air concert hall for the Symphony of the Americas’ outdoor pops concert. This year’s program featured scores from popular Broadway musicals and blockbuster movies, as well as pops favorites such as Stars and Stripes Forever. All music was performed by the Symphony of the Americas, under the baton of Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese. This concert provides a unique opportunity to introduce the community to the powerful sounds of a symphony orchestra. The outdoor venue is especially nice for families with young children who might not be ready for the traditional theater experience. The outdoor pops concert is presented by the City of Weston, Weston Town Center and the Weston Philharmonic Society in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Weston.

Best Park Peace Mound Park With 14 parks and recreational facilities in Weston, selecting the best is not easy. It seems this year, voters were looking for peace and tranquility more than sports and activities, picking Peace Mound Park. Located at the corner of Indian Trace and Three Village Road, the eight-acre park got its name because it is the site of a Tequesta Indian burial mound. Archeological features were built into the park design. The passive park features picturesque pathways and a fishing dock along the lake, as well as jogging and biking paths. There is a shaded playground, that is ADA compliant, and two small shelters with picnic tables. Peace Mound Park is dog friendly. It offers parking and restroom facilities.
