A Little Turbulence on Your Flight?

W

e love to travel. In fact, we fly to exotic and not-so-exotic locations, both close to home and around the world, on a fairly regular basis. Despite our love of travel, Christy is not a fan of bumpy flights. For her, a little bit of turbulence will create enough anxiety to set flight attendants off for a glass or two of wine! This makes us all the more thankful for the brave men and women who routinely fly into the world’s most turbulent skies. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), along with the U.S. Air Force, maintain a fleet of aircraft known as the “hurricane hunters.” These modified warplanes routinely fly in the opposite direction of rational human beings to collect data as hurricanes approach populated areas. A typical mission keeps the aircrew off the ground for 11 hours. That is about the time it would take to fly from Miami to Moscow! Imagine the roller coaster ride these dedicated public servants are on flying through a hurricane. The aircraft used for these incredibly important missions are modified C-130 cargo planes and P-3 Orion submarine hunters. Both were chosen because of incredibly reliable service records and the fact that they are slow. Fast, high-altitude jets are not very useful for collecting atmospheric condition data; however, slow propellerdriven planes are perfect. Unless, you have motion sickness. The planes use a number of radars, instruments and “drop” devices to collect a myriad of data. These data are uploaded, in near real-time, to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Forecasts and hurricane track projections using Hurricane Hunter data are as much as 30% more accurate than just satellite and radar projections. So, the next time your flight is a little bit bumpy and the captain turns on the fasten seatbelt sign, be thankful for that Hurricane Hunter flight crew of six, flying 10,000 feet above a stormy sea in winds that would knock over an apartment building! We know we are. Sincerely,

Christy & Terry Jaillet

Lilli Is On The Spectrum... BUT AUTISM ALSO MAKES LILLI WHO SHE IS.

L

illi is a 6-year-old girl with a variety of diagnoses ranging from autism spectrum to hypotonia. Going through

the process of improvement with a loved one can be challenging. There are days of regression, days when patients don’t want to comply and then there will be a day when the clouds clear and a ray of improvement shines down on you and your family, so it was always important for Lilli’s mom to be consistent and persistent.

“I came here because every therapy needed was offered under the same roof” stated Claudia, Lilli’s mother. “The therapists, assistants and physicians take pride in working to help improve their patient’s quality of life but also make sure that those seeking treatment are happy while under their care. When you are in a facility, you need to know there’s good practice and that people are making your child happy. Lilli is always excited to see her therapists and as a parent this shows me that T4K has the right formula.”

I

n South Florida there are countless clinics where family members and caregivers can take their loved ones to receive therapeutic services with hopes that it will improve the quality of life for their family member. It’s likely they will see improvement but very unlikely that they will be offered all the services they need

under one roof. Since 2004, Therapies 4 Kids has provided a spectrum of services for their patients with five South Florida locations. CALL NOW FOR A FREE CONSULTATION

Coral Springs/Parkland Fire Captain Accepts National Award

T

he City of Coral Springs is proud to announce that the Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award was presented to the Florida Firefighters Safety and Health Collaborative, along with the Denver Fire Department, for their outstanding contributions to firefighter safety and health. Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department (CSPFD) Captain, Chris Bator, was in Washington, DC with the other founders and members of the collaborative to accept this prestigious award. In just a few short years, the work accomplished in the State of Florida and nationwide has been tremendous. Of the recognition, Chief Frank Babinec says, “We are

extremely proud of Captain Bator and the Collaborative Board for taking the reins on this initiative; for committing the time, passion, and dedication to the importance of firefighter health and wellness.” In 2015, CSPFD Assistant Chief John Whalen and Captain Bator, who are committed to this important issue, attended the Florida Fire Chiefs Annual Safety and Health Conference. At the conference, they met individuals, obtained important information, and made great connections to move CSPFD in the direction necessary for the safety and wellness of its members. Staying Safe During South Florida’s Summer Season

S

ummer is synonymous with fun in the sun – kids playing outside, time at the beach or pool and family vacations. And with the increased physical activity, the chance of injuries can also rise. So what are some of the most common injuries during the summer that cause minor emergencies and require urgent care? Baptist Health Urgent Care personnel see a wide variety of injuries during the summer months, ranging from dehydration and sunburn to cuts and sprains and even upper respiratory infections. Healthcare professionals at Baptist Health Urgent Care locations say they definitely attribute the uptick in certain conditions to the summer heat and increase of outdoor physical activity. Some of the most common minor emergencies they treat this time of year are:

Heat-related Illnesses

▸▸ Dehydration and Sunburn – symptoms can include extreme thirst, nausea and fever. Remember to always use sunblock and stay hydrated, especially if spending long periods of time outdoors. ▸▸ Cuts, Sprains and Fracture - Lacerations that need stitches, sprains that can be treated with slings or crutches and broken bones diagnosed by x-ray. ▸▸ Gastrointestinal Issues - The U.S. Department of Agriculture report an increase in food-borne illness un the summer months. Outdoor cookouts and the associated heat and humidity make them the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. ▸▸ Insect Bites and Stings - More time outdoors means more chances of getting a bite or sting from mosquitoes, spiders and fire ants. Seek immediate attention if severe allergic reactions such as facial swelling, difficulty breathing or weakness occur. ▸▸ Sunburns - Most sunburns can be relieved with at-home remedies such as aloe vera and ibuprofen. A sunburn that results in blistering, extreme pain or chills should prompt a visit to the nearest urgent care facility.

Children’s Health in the Summer Summertime for kids also means a break from school and more time outdoors. Unfortunately, the increased activity can also mean more injuries. Bicycle-related injuries are one of the most common, according to a study by researchers at the Center for Injury Research and Policy. It found that more than 2.2 million children were treated in U.S. emergency departments for bicyclerelated injuries between 2006 and 2015. Boys ages 10 to 14 are the most likely to be injured, the study says, and the majority of the injuries are bruises, scrapes and cuts. Bicyclists should always wear a helmet. Asthma in kids is another condition that requires attention during the summer months. Heat and humidity and seasonal allergies to summertime blooms can activate asthma. If a child is having a non-severe asthma attack, Baptist Health Urgent Care providers suggest bringing them to a nearby facility to be checked and prescribed inhalers, if needed. And when they’re getting ready to return to school in the fall, many kids need back-to-school physicals. Thorough physical exams and sports physicals are available at Baptist Health Urgent Care Express locations.

From 2001 to 2010, Zu De Qui began to exhibit his artworks in the most important Chinese Museums and galleries, and started in this period to conquer Europe and America. Yifei Zhou’s artwork illustrates his solid foundation in the traditional approach to Chinese Brush Painting. His paintings cover landscapes, plants & flowers and animals. “The exhibiting artists during the summer are diverse Chinese artists whose works are vastly different from each other. Local youth will be enriched by postmodern art as well as traditional Chinese calligraphy art. This gives guests the opportunity to view how the art world is outside the United States, and how it impacts worldwide culture in popularity,” said Fiorella Lavena, Guest Services for the Coral Springs Museum of Art. HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

Hurricane Season is Here – Be Prepared BY STACEY BOMSER

T

he 2019 Atlantic hurricane season started on June 1st and runs through November 30th. Early predictions are for an average to slightly-above average season in terms of activity. Experts from Colorado State University’s hurricane research team forecast 13 named storms of which five will become hurricanes and two will become major hurricanes (Category 3 or stronger). For comparison, during an average hurricane season there are 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes. While the number of storms predicted this year is close to normal, the overall activity – based on the intensity of storms and their energy – is expected to be slightly below average. “This year, we think that there will be a few less tropical storms and lower numbers in hurricanes, but again, the old saying is ‘it only takes one’,” cautions AccuWeather Atlantic Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski. That being said, now is the time to start preparing your family and your home for hurricane season. The first thing you should do is put together your hurricane supply kit, stocked with all the essentials you will need to provide for your family during and following a storm. Be sure to include flashlights and lanterns with extra batteries, first

aid supplies, cash, food and water, and copies of all critical documents. You should also create a family emergency communication plan; know how to get in touch with each other, especially if phone or internet service is knocked out. Register for text and/or email alerts for emergency notifications.

Why haven’t you called

Prepare your home by trimming tree branches and limbs and securing and clearing rain gutters and downspouts. Now is also the time to make sure your hurricane shutters are in proper working order. The beginning of hurricane season is also a good time to familiarize yourself with the terminology. It’s important that you understand exactly what the meteorologists and newscasters are saying and what that means. Here are some of the most common terms as defined by the National Hurricane Center: Tropical Cyclone – an organized rotating system of clouds and thunderstorms that originates over tropical or subtropical waters and has a closed lowlevel circulation Tropical Storm – a tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 39-73 mph Hurricane – a tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or higher; a major hurricane is when winds are 111 mph or higher Hurricane Warning – hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or higher) are expected in an area; issued 36 hours in advance of the anticipated onset Hurricane Watch – hurricane conditions are possible; issued 48 hours in advance of the anticipated onset

What To Do When A Storm Approaches BY STACEY BOMSER

T

wo years ago, Hurricane Irma set her sights on South Florida. While we were fortunate and escaped the brunt of her powerful strength, that scare was enough to remind us all of how important it is to be ready for hurricane season. Here are some helpful tips on what you need to know to be prepared before, during and after a storm. As the storm approaches Start preparing your home before the storm gets near. That means covering windows and doors with hurricane shutters and bringing in outdoor furniture, garbage cans, and anything else that is not tied down and could become airborne. Charge your cell phone and back-up batteries in case you lose power. Withdraw cash from the bank, as ATM’s will not work in a power outage. Gas up your car and buy extra gas if needed to fuel generators or gas-

The People’s Choice in Hurricane Protection

powered tools. Fill aluminum or plastic containers with drinking water; you need enough for one gallon per person per day for at least three days. In addition, fill pre-sanitized sinks and tubs with water for bathing and flushing toilets. Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest setting and open only when necessary; this will help keep food safe longer if the power goes out. During the storm Monitor your radio or television for weather updates and instructions from public safety officials. Also check emails and social media sources for emergency notifications. Stay inside, preferably in an interior room with no windows. If the power goes out, use flashlights or battery-operated lanterns; do not use candles or kerosene lamps during the storm. Do not go outside during the eye of the storm – it may appear calm but hurricane-force winds will resume shortly. This is NOT the time to clean-up around the house. After the hurricane Listen to local officials for updates and instructions; do not go outside until authorities say it is safe. Many

disaster-related injuries occur in the aftermath of the storm – watch out for debris and downed power lines. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just six inches of moving water can knock a person down and fast-moving water can sweep a car away. In addition, flood water may be electrically charged from underground or downed power lines. It could also hide dangerous debris. Once it is safe to walk around outside your home, photograph any damage to the structure or property to assist in filing an insurance claim. Don’t forget to check-in with family and friends to make sure everyone is safe.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

What’s In Your Bag?

A

s we enter hurricane season, it’s essential that every family have a fully-stocked emergency supply kit. After a hurricane, or other emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days until aid can arrive. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends that everyone have enough food, water and necessities to last for three to five days. A basic emergency supply kit should contain one gallon of water per person per day to use for drinking and sanita-

tion. You should also have at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food for each person, along with a can opener. That includes baby formula and baby food. You also want to include mess kits or paper goods and plastic eating utensils. Every emergency kit should have a battery-powered or hand crank radio, preferably a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert, and extra batteries. Flashlights and lanterns with extra batteries are also essential. Other necessities include a first aid kit, whistle to signal for help, and household cleaning supplies including garbage bags. You may need to go several days without running water, so it’s good to stock moist towelettes along with other personal hygiene items. Be sure to include a wrench or pliers to turn off utilities and make sure you

have charcoal or propane for the grill. While that’s what you need for a basic hurricane supply kit, FEMA does have a list of extra items you should consider adding. Be sure to include eyeglasses and any prescription medication you or someone in the family needs. If you have a baby, your kit should include baby care items such as disposable diapers and wipes. Don’t forget to prepare for your pet’s care as well with pet food and extra water. It’s a good idea to include sleeping bags or blankets and pillows for each member of the family. Your kit should also contain a change of clothing for

every member of the family, including sturdy shoes as there may be a lot of debris. Emergency kits should also include an extra set of car keys, cash because ATM’s and credit card devices might not work without power, and books, games, puzzles and other activities to keep entertained if there is no TV or internet. Lastly, make sure to gather all important documents in waterproof containers. This includes emergency contact numbers, insurance policies (home, auto, life, etc.), medical records, bank account numbers, etc. FEMA recommends you store items in airtight plastic bags and put the entire hurricane supply kit in one or two easy-to-carry containers such as plastic bins or a duffel bag. n For more tips on what to include in a hurricane supply kit visit www. ready.gov/build-a-kit.

irl Scouts of Southeast Florida held their annual Thin Mint Sprint event across three separate locations where approximately 600 runners raced and helped raise over $50,000 along with the support of sponsors including Duffy’s Foundation, Publix Super Markets Charities, Panera Bread/ Covelli Enterprises, Truly Nolen Pest Control, and others. The funds raised will be used to support the organization’s mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. The Thin Mint Sprint 5K event in Broward County took place on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek. Following the 5K was the Tagalong Trot 100-yard dash, where kids 8 and under also got to show off

their speed! The top three runners overall were all females this year. Top finisher, Kayla Sanseverino of Parkland is a seventeen year old Ambassador Girl Scout and finished the race at an impressive 20 minutes and 52.4 seconds. Second place finisher was Helen McKenzie of Ft. Lauderdale who finished the race in 20 minutes and 54.9 seconds, and third place finisher was Marla Dundak with a finishing time of 21 minutes and 7.7 seconds. MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Parkland Update MAYOR CHRISTINE HUNSCHOFSKY t is hard to believe that another school year is already ending. May was the month of Mother’s Day, First Communions, high school graduations, college graduations, and proms. It is always so nice to see so many happy faces with families and friends celebrating these special moments. Now as we head into June, we have more high school graduations and 5th grade celebrations. These are beautiful times when we see our children grow and mature, yet these moments pass so quickly that we must remember to treasure them. Thank you to all the teachers, administrators, staff, and volunteers for everything you do throughout the school year for our students. For all of the students, we are extremely proud of you and wish you the best of luck whether you are moving on to work, gap years, internships, college, high school, middle school, beginning elementary school, or moving on to your next grade. From the flu to chest pains – Cleveland Clinic Florida offers world-class care for all of your medical needs Know the best place to go in an emergency situation If your elderly father fell and appeared to have a broken arm, you’d most likely take him to the nearest emergency room. But what if your spouse developed an itchy leg rash overnight? Or you came down with a stomach bug? Some situations are clear-cut emergencies, while others are not. It can sometimes be tough to know the best place to go for medical help in an urgent situation. Here’s a guide:

“Our Express Care Clinics provide access to Cleveland Clinic Florida’s board-certified physicians, as well as other healthcare providers for non-life-threatening urgent medical needs,” says Frank Eidelman, MD, Director of the Center for Medical Specialties and Chairman of the Department of Allergy and Immunology at Cleveland Clinic Florida. “They are convenient and cost-effective alternatives to the emergency room where we can expertly and efficiently diagnose and treat a host of injuries and illnesses requiring urgent attention.”

Emergency Rooms Hospital emergency rooms will treat all injuries, but they are the best place to go for serious injuries or life-threatening medical situations. Some examples of reasons for which you should go to a hospital emergency room (ER) include: • Chest pain and/or shortness of breath • Stroke symptoms • Uncontrolled or excessive bleeding and wounds needing stitches • Broken bones and head injuries • Severe burns • Poisoning • Suicidal feelings • Accidents (car crashes, falls)

Should you drive to the hospital or call 911 for an ambulance? An ambulance is the quickest and safest way to go to the ER for lifethreatening injuries or illnesses. The paramedics on board can administer life-saving treatment and determine the best hospital to treat the injuries.

Cleveland Clinic Florida Expands its Emergency Services Department

Express Care Locations Serving South Florida Cleveland Clinic Florida has Express Care locations to serve you in Weston, Parkland, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington. Visit ClevelandClinicFlorida.org/ExpressCare for more information.

Express Care Online® For some health concerns, you may see a healthcare provider live without even leaving your house by using your smartphone, tablet or computer. You may receive a diagnosis and a prescription, if appropriate. Express Care Online® may be utilized for some conditions, including the following: • Seasonal allergies; bronchitis; cold, cough and flu symptoms; sinus infections • Back strains • Rashes • Painful urination • Acute vaginitis

In October 2018, Cleveland Clinic Florida opened a new hospital tower and expanded emergency services department at its Weston medical campus at 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd. With 42 emergency bays and the addition of 50 beds and a walk-in center, the department will be able to serve an expected 70,000 patients annually with continued timely high-quality emergency care.

Express Care Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Express Care Clinics, similar to walk-in clinics, handle less serious non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that need treatment within 24 hours (not immediately). Like ERs, they do not require an appointment, but wait times are generally shorter. And, unlike other walk-in clinics, a trip to a Cleveland Clinic Florida Express Care Clinic will cost the same as an appointment with your primary care doctor. Some conditions for which you should go to an Express Care Clinic include: • Sprains and minor injuries • Eye or sinus infections; cold, cough and flu symptoms • Minor cuts, burns, rashes and skin injuries not requiring stitches • Urinary tract and sexually transmitted infections • Insect bites and stings

Download the Cleveland Clinic Express Care Online® app to connect with a doctor. Visit ClevelandClinicFlorida.org/ECO

Primary Care For any new health concerns that don’t require immediate attention, a primary care provider (PCP) can help. Most Cleveland Clinic Florida PCPs offer same-day appointments. In addition to helping when a medical issue arises, PCPs are partners in their patients’ day-to-day health and wellness. By knowing a patient’s overall health and personal and family medical histories, PCPs can help patients address multiple healthcare needs and navigate the healthcare system. To make an appointment with a Cleveland Clinic Florida PCP, call 800.639.DOCTOR or visit ClevelandClinicFlorida.org/Appointment.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Coral Springs Update MAYOR SCOTT J. BROOK ummer is upon us and we have some wonderful seasonal sports leagues in our City, as well as fun programs at the Coral Springs Gymnasium. I encourage you all to check out the Summer Fun Guide. It is available online at coralsprings.org/summerfun. Also, congratulations to all of the graduates! Traditionally the summer is a time when families plan for much-needed vacations. If you are planning for an out-of-town trip during the June 18th Special Election to fill the vacancy for Commission Seat 2, I urge you to request a Vote by Mail ballot. Simply visit www.browardsoe.org and request your ballot no later than June 12. Remember, you must seal and sign the envelope for your vote to count. I want to congratulate the Broward League of Women Voters, who hosted a Candidate Forum to familiarize residents with each of the six candidates running for City Commission. If you were unable to attend, the forum can be found on City TV and online at coralsprings.org. June 1st marks the start of hurricane season. It is important for residents and businesses to be prepared. Our Office of Emergency Management has launched a new and more convenient emergency notification system, ALERT Coral Springs. The system, which allows for citizens to opt-in to receive timesensitive notifications via phone call, text messaging and email, is used during incidents that are deemed an emergency due to the imminent threat to a person(s) safety or welfare. The new system will replace the City’s Code Red by January 2020. To register, visit www. alertcoralsprings.org, and you can manage your profile and messaging preferences. It is important that you and your family have your hurricane preparedness plans and supplies in place. You can purchase storm supplies like batteries, flashlights, and portable generators tax free in the State of Florida from June 1-7, 2019. Last month, the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee distributed $27,000 in scholarships to 21 deserving students in the City of Coral Springs during a reception at the Coral Springs Country Club. Committees and Boards, like this one, are vital to community outreach and inclusion. I appreciate the work of the members of the MLK Committee and congratulate the students who were selected. If you would like to become a member of a board or committee, be sure to fill out an application by visiting: coralsprings.org/government/ city-clerk/boards-and-committees. If you would like to schedule an appointment to speak with me, please call (954) 344-5906, or if you have an issue you would like to bring to my attention, email me at sbrook@coralsprings.org. I have enjoyed my office hours so far and especially when I met with teenagers and adults to discuss ways we can support our teens and address minority concerns. In the near future, I will continue these discussions as well as office hours with a focus on business in our great City! Please free to contact me on my cell phone at 954-696-7599. Thank you for your interest in OUR City! Your Friendly Mayor,

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR: MARGATE

Margate Update MAYOR ANTHONY N. CAGGIANO t is an exciting time to be in Margate and I am exceptionally proud of the work your Commission has done. I recently shared that Margate is the 5th safest City in Broward County and 37th safest in the State. Now I’m thrilled to announce that our City was ranked the 37th of the top 50 “Best Small Cities to Start a Small Business” among 300 U.S. cities of a similar size. We have been working diligently to improve the business climate in our City, and we will continue to do so. Margate Middle School has ‘three-peated’ as the North American Champion of Vocabulary.com. They conquered a field of over 45,000 middle schools. Our schools are stepping up to the plate and hitting the ball out of the park. Congratulations to our Margate Fire Explorers for winning nine trophies in the 19th Annual Explorer Competition. To prepare the Explorers for the fierce competition of knowledge and skills, Advisors Steve Catalano and Rolando Jimenez began training the group in medical and fire scenarios in January. It’s hurricane season, and although we all hope for a quiet season, we must prepare our homes and our families for the possibility of a storm. Before a storm threatens, please develop your family’s hurricane plan and stock up on all of your supplies. Be sure to have enough supplies to last you 3-7 days. Some supplies you should have readily available include water, non-perishable food, toiletries, a non-electric can opener, flashlight, and pet care items. For a

44 JUNE 2019 | OUR CITY | OURCITYMEDIA.COM

s I was planning for this month’s article, and we embark on summer time here in sunny South Florida, what immediately enters my mind is water safety. Whether you have a pool right in your own backyard, a community pool, or live nowhere near a pool, the truth is, we live in Florida. What does this mean? We are a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, and this means that every child and adult should learn how to swim. Children walk to school on sidewalks adjacent to canals, and play in parks with a beautiful lake that is a hop, skip, and a jump away! What I am trying to convey is that regardless of whether you swim or you spend any time near or around a pool, canal or any type of body of water, everyone needs to learn water safety. According to healthychildren.org, the biggest drowning threat facing families with toddlers is unexpected, unsupervised access to water: swimming pools, hot tubs and spas, bathtubs, natural bodies of water such as ponds, and standing water in homes. Sixty-nine percent of all drownings among children age 4 and younger happen during non-swim times. Among preventable injuries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 – 4 years old. Children less than a year old are more likely to drown at home in the bathroom or a bucket, not in a pool. This month, our department is collaborating with our fire department and parks and recreation for the first ever hosting a ‘Margate Cares’ water safety, sleep safe and drowning prevention safety seminar at the Calypso Cove Aquatics Facility. If you have already signed up, we hope to see you there! We plan on hosting these safety events more often throughout the year, but felt that the summer time was a perfect opportunity to kick off some summer safety fun! Below I have listed a few important safety tips from the Margate Police Department. Please use these as a go-by or maybe a checklist in your home for your family to see if you are “Water Safe!” I wish all students who are finishing up the school year a fabulous start to summer and hope to provide you with some great tips to keep your family safe! 1. Watch kids when they are in or around water, without being distracted. Keep young children within an arm’s reach of an adult. 2. Empty all tubs, buckets, containers and kiddie pools immediately after use. Store them upside down so they don’t collect water. 3. Close toilet lids and use toilet seat locks to prevent drowning. Keep doors to bathrooms and laundry rooms closed. 4. Install fences around home pools. A pool fence should surround all sides of the pool and be at least four feet tall with self-closing and selflatching gates. All doors should have sensors. 5. K now what to do in an emergency. Learning CPR and basic water rescue skills may help you save a life! BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Pizza with Passion – All-Star Pizza Brings a Taste of New York to Parkland BY BEVERLY PERKINS

F

or over two decades the Tramontano family has been giving South Florida a taste of New York with All-Star Pizza. The family-owned and operated New York Style Pizzeria has had quite a following and such a demand that they opened their fourth location last September in Parkland. The dedicated family prides themselves on their premier pizza made with the very best ingredients. The highest quality cheese is piled on top of their homemade sauce to make their thin, crispy yet chewy pizza crust quite the specialty. However, they have an extensive menu offering other Italian favorites. Chicken and Eggplant Parmesan, Stuffed Shells, and Lasagna top the list. But pasta, hot and cold heroes, calzones, salads, wings, homemade garlic bread sticks, and so much

more all make choosing difficult. One must also save room for the infamous cannoli which are stuffed with Ferrara cream “Straight Outta NYC” is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. Owners James Tramontano Jr.and James Tramontano Sr. recently took some time to answer some questions about their family business. What distinguishes you from all the competition out there? Our reputation is very important to us. We want everyone to have an amazing experience and amazing food. Our personal touch, customer service, passion for what we do, and commitment to quality every day has made us a trusted business by the many South Florida residents who dine with us. Even the snowbirds always come back to see our family, give us hugs, and tell us how they miss our pizza. Our customers are always treated like family. Tell us about the menu. We have a full Italian menu from traditional staples, salads and gourmet pizzas to delicious desserts. Great lunch specials with great prices are perfect for those on the go are available from 11:00 am-3:00 pm daily.

All-Star Pizza is located in the Parkland Commons Plaza, 7965 N. University Drive, Parkland. To place an order, please call (754)802-3676. The “Coconut Creek/East Parkland” All-Star Pizza is located at 6560 N. State Road 7, Coconut Creek. (954) 429-3990.
