Dear Readers,
I would like to invite everyone to attend the city’s observance of the 21st Anniversary of 9-11 or Patriot Day, when we remember and honor the thousands who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The ceremony will take place on September 11, 2022, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park adjacent to the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way. The ceremony, which is free, will begin with the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guards. It will also include guest speakers, community leaders, and patriotic music featuring local school bands and area musicians. Residents and guests are encouraged to tour the statues that are part of the Memorial Park, created to ensure this day is never forgotten.
The 9-11 ceremony will also be live streamed on the city’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. For more information regarding the City of Pembroke Pines observance of Patriot Day, please call 954-392-2116.
We have some exciting news for the kids in the city. The very popular Touch-A-Truck Vehicle Expo will take place on September 24, 2022, from 10 am to noon at the Charles F. Dodge City Center. Children will have the opportunity to get up close and explore, climb and touch trucks, emergency response vehicles, heavy machinery, construction vehicles, and all sorts of other equipment used for transportation. Admission and parking are free. For more information, please call 954-392-2116 or visit www.ppines.com/specialevents.
September 10th marks the peak of our hurricane season. According to weather experts, about 75% of Atlantic hurricane seasons since the start of the weather satellite era have had a named storm on this date. What does that mean for us? Simply that we must continue to be hurricane prepared. Please check out our Pembroke Pines Prepared Hurricane Resources at www. pembrokepines/hurricane.
And, everyone is encouraged to join us in celebrating National Arts in Education Week, held September 11 – 17, 2022. The City offers a diverse collection of art programming, and all ages can check the city’s website at www.ppines.com/artsandculture to learn of unique art and culture-related offerings from traditional arts and crafts workshops to performance art.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 954-450-1020, or by email at fortis@ppines.com.
Sincerely,
Mayor Frank C. Ortis
