When our young adult arm, YMI (English equivalent of warungsatekamu.org), decided to organise an apologetics talk for young people in Singapore, there were some voices of doubt. “Young people won’t come on a Saturday morning, they’ll be sleeping in after partying the night before.” “Young people are not interested in talking about religion.”
The apologetics conference drew 800 people—equal to the number of older readers who attend our Bible Conference each year. They fired so many questions at the speaker, Jose Philip, that he didn’t have time to answer them all; many even stayed behind to discuss things further. Then there were those who thought young people had no patience to read. Yet more than 600,000 people read the articles published in warungsatekamu.org each month. They were willing to take time to read, leave a comment, and even share the articles with their peers.

YOUNG PEOPLE ARE TRULY HUNGRY FOR GOD’S TRUTH, AND ARE WILLING TO SPEND TIME SEARCHING FOR IT. WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP THEM ON THIS QUEST FOR MEANING AND PURPOSE IN THEIR LIFE? HOW CAN WE REACH OUT TO THE NEXT GENERATION AND MAKE SURE THEY FIND THE ANSWERS IN THE RIGHT PLACES—GOD’S WORD, AND NOT THE WORLD? We believe that this is what God is calling us to do today. Young people are close to His heart, for His Word instructs us to bring up the next generation to follow and fear Him: “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children” (Deuteronomy 6:6–7 NIV). With God’s help, we have started producing new resources specially written for younger readers across the Asia Pacific. They include devotionals that engage children and teenagers on subjects that interest them, magazines that encourage millennials to reflect on their faith, and interactive talks that challenge and refine their beliefs. WarungSateKamu team is also looking at mobilising young people to serve together with us to bless the children in remote areas of Indonesia through mural painting projects in local libraries. But we can’t do this alone. We need your support to produce and share these resources with the young people in your life. And we need your prayers for God to guide us. Will you join us on this mission to harvest young souls for Christ? In His service,
Tan Meng Poo Senior Vice President Ministry Operations, Asia Pacific Regional Group
• God will open doors for us to share our resources with children, teens, and millennials in churches, schools, and communities around the region, so we can help encourage, inspire, and draw them to Him. • God will give us the resources and wisdom to produce materials that engage younger readers in love and compassion. • God will grant us the humility and grace to be channels of Christ’s love, remembering that every young person is precious to Him.
