It’s hard to find a place to start on these Red Box sons. There were eight bulls born out of this flush and the consistency and uniformity among them is outstanding. We flushed one of our stoutest cows to the popular Red Box sire in hopes of making a true production bull that commercial cattlemen would appreciate, and these bulls are just that. They are big bodied, square built, easy keeping, and full of muscle. It is truly a challenge separating out the “best” one. There is not a lot difference from top to bottom in this group.
In the last few months, this bull has really come on, and has sorted his way to the top of the pen. 287 carries a tremendous amount of body, rib shape and muscle in an attractive, sound package. Plus, he is in the top 10% Rib Eye for and the top 20% for Carcass Weight.

John Wick has played a big role in our breeding program over the last few years. He makes growthy, production bulls and attractive, functional females. We kept a full sibling to this bull last year and she is the perfect blend of maternal look and power. 13CC John Wick 260 is square built, aggressively muscled and has a true herd sire look from the side. His dam is very complete, she has good feet and a perfect udder.

This Maxed Out bull that comes in a more moderate package but still weighs like lead. He has the good growth numbers that the Maxed Out bulls are known for and phenotypically he is big ribbed, sound footed, and well balanced. His dam just calved and she too is a more moderate framed cow that has a beautiful front end and good feet and legs.
We look forward to 227’s dam calving every year. She always breeds back quick and weans off a high performing, quality calf. With that being said, 227 might be the best calf she has raised yet. This bull was by far the highest performing at weaning and he continued that trend when we recorded yearling weights. Last year and this year, sons out of J6 Maxed Out have documented tremendous yearling weights and an overall complete look. 227 is in the top 1% for weaning weight and yearling weight. If you are wanting to add pounds to your calf crop check out the Maxed Out sons.

Perhaps the most intriguing bull in our lineup is this Deep End ET calf. If you’re looking for great hair, dark red color, and a striking profile, put him at the top of your list. We purchased 2119’s mom out of the Six Mile Genetic Focus sale in 2016 and she has played a huge role in building our herd. 2119’s full sister, raised a $14,500 heifer we consigned to the Flash & Function West sale last fall, who was recently named Champion Red Angus Heifer at the San Antonio Stock Show, Champion Red Angus Heifer at the Houston Livestock Show, and Reserve Champion Heifer Calf at Ft. Worth.

We flushed 232’s dam last year, because year after year she was producing the kind of calves we wanted to keep. His dam is loaded with cow power, she has a striking presence and a great udder. We purchased her from McEntire Red Angus in 2017 because she was hard to fault phenotypically. Since then, we have bred her multiple ways, including her 502 x Bieber Spartan flush. 232 is a powerful bull that charts in the top 2% for weaning weight, the top 8% for yearling weight and the top 20% for Yield Grade, Carcass Weight, and Ribeye.

This is NIO Masterpiece 0119’s first calf crop, and we are excited about them. However, of the four Masterpiece sons that made the bull pen, 293 is probably the most fascinating. His sire and dam come from breed leading programs. While he is fun to look at on paper, we think he is even better phenotypically. This bull puts look, growth, stoutness, and shape all into a sound package.
We would consider this bull safe for heifers, based on his EPDs, actual birthweight, and the consistency of low birth weight calves produced by his sire. Furthermore, his mom was out of a low birthweight bull. His dam is the result of a bred heifer we purchased out of the U2 Dispersal sale in 2019. On the topside of his pedigree is WEBR Beartooth 742 who we have used as a heifer bull, consistently since 2018. WEBR Beartooth 742 is outstanding phenotypically. He’s rugged, wide made, perfectly balanced, and docile enough to scratch on the head.

252 may be a heifer bull option for some. This is another son out of our WEBR Beartooth 742 bull. I don’t think I have ever seen a calf out of WEBR Beartooth 742 weigh more than 65 pounds, in fact most are weighed in from 45-55 pounds. 252’s dam is another heifer that was born to a bred heifer we purchased out of the U2 dispersal. His dam is a Riff daughter, she’s stout, square, sound and good uttered.

He has consistently produced rugged, thick made bulls that have an eye-catching look from the side.
We have used LD Emblazon 999 frequently over the years and he just works for us. He is a no nonsense bull that covers the basics and adds a lot of thickness. This Emlazon son is square made and full of muscle. In 2021 we retained a full brother to this bull in our herd. His first calf crop is on the ground now and they have the thickness we have come to expect from Emblazon bulls. 291 is an all-around complete bull. He comes from a line of very broody, maternal, sound females and I would expect him to be a candidate for making replacements. This is 13CC Angel 602’s fourth bull calf, and every bull calf she has had, has made the keeper pen. 291’s dam is a natural calf out of one of our foundation females and like her mom, she has a tremendous amount of center body while still being very feminine through her head and neck and attractive from the profile. Expected Progeny Difference (EPD). is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE.
Accuracy (ACC), is the reliability that can be placed on the EPD. An accuracy of close to 1.0 indicates higher reliability. Accuracy is impacted by the number of progeny and ancestral records included in the analysis.
Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Residual Average Daily Gain (RADG), feed efficiency expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed.
Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Height (YH), is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to the that of other sires.
Scrotal Circumference (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Docility (DOC), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility in a sire’s offspring compared to another sire.
MATERNAL
Heifer Pregnancy (HP), is a selection tool to increase the probability or chance of a sire’s daughters becoming pregnant as first–calf heifers during a normal breeding season. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction, and the EPD is reported in percentage units.
Calving Ease Maternal (CEM), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires.
Maternal Milk (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.
Mature Weight (MW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the difference in mature weight of daughters of a sire compared to the daughters of other sires.
Mature Height (MH), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the difference in mature height of a sire’s daughters compared to daughters of other sires.
Claw Set (Claw), is expressed in units of claw-set score. A lower EPD is more favorable, indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal claw set, which is toes that are symmetrical, even and appropriately spaced.
Foot Angle (Angle), is expressed in units of foot-angle score. A lower EPD is more favorable, indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal foot angle, which is a 45-degree angle at the pastern joint with appropriate toe length and heel depth.
The genetic evaluation produces a single set of EPDs for carcass traits where the units of measure are in trait format and analyzed on an age-constant basis.
Carcass Weight (CW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Marbling (Marb), is expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Ribeye Area (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Fat Thickness (Fat), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Carcass Weight (CW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
$Value Indexes, reported in dollars per head, are multi-trait selection indexes where a higher value suggests more profit. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires if sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.
Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning. Increased selection pressure on $M aims to decrease overall mature cow size and improve foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.
Weaned Calf Value ($W), expressed in dollars per head, provides the expected difference in future progeny preweaning performance from birth to weaning. Increased selection pressure on $W increases weaning and maternal milk traits while increasing mature cow size.
Cow Energy Value ($EN), expressed in dollars savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals. Components for computing $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size.
Feedlot Value ($F), expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. The underlying objective assumes commercial producers will retain ownership of cattle through the feedlot phase and sell fed cattle on a carcass weight basis with no considerations of premiums or discounts for quality and yield grade.
Grid Value ($G), expressed in dollars per carcass, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit, including quality and yield grade attributes, compared to progeny of other sires.
Beef Value ($B), expressed in dollars per carcass, represents the expected average differences in the progeny postweaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot phase, and market these animals on a quality-based carcass grid.
Drawing from our in production agriculture, we established our own registered Red Angus and Angus herds as a family in 2015. Since that time, we have persistently built these herds with females and bulls from some of the most notable breeders in the business.
Our focus on artificial insemination and embryo transfer has helped us produce functional, high performing and structurally correct cattle.
