The year we graduated high school - Class of? The actual group of students in a room? What about a level of society? In some cultures, members do not have a choice, called the Caste System. Car makers use it for their branding. Get the S-Class, if you can. Or, it could just be a way of filing things. But, I believe to always leave things with class. You know what I mean. It’s the way you live, the way you treat others, the way you conduct business, and ultimately who you are as a person. First British Royal to Ever Vacation with an All-LGBT+ Travel Company VACAYA makes history with news that Lord Ivar Mountbatten and his husband, James Coyle, will be the first-ever members of any royal family to vacation with an all-LGBT+ travel company. A few weeks ago, VACAYA Co-founders Randle Roper and Patrick Gunn received an unexpected email. Nothing in their combined 30 years of producing LGBT+ travel events had quite prepared them for what was inside that email: news of VACAYA had reached the British Royal Family! Through his team, the only out and proud member of the British Royal Family, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, had reached out to express interest in attending VACAYA’s 2023 Polynesia Cruise with his husband, James Coyle. VACAYA CEO Randle Roper shares, “That email was definitely a shocker. When you wake up in the morning and grab that first cup of coffee, you never expect that an email from the team supporting the British Royal Family is waiting for you in your Inbox.” VACAYA CMO Patrick Gunn adds, “Here at VACAYA, we’ve always known life has a funny way of bringing people together, and now… our team and our guests will end up rubbing elbows with a member of the British Royal Family. All of us are super excited to welcome Lord Ivar and James to the VACAYA family.”

With his choice to travel with VACAYA, Lord Mountbatten makes history as the first member of any of the world’s royal families to take a vacation with an all-LGBT+ travel company. Lord Mountbatten is a direct descendant of Queen Victoria, Catherine the Great of Russia, and Alexander Pushkin, the famous Russian poet. He is second cousin to King Charles III. Surrounded by friends and family, Lord Ivar and James married in September 2018, tying the knot at their 100-acre Georgian estate, Bridwell Park, which they own and operate as a bed-and-breakfast in the county of Devon, England (approximately 3 hours west of London).

About VACAYA VACAYA offers a fresh new approach to LGBT+ travel, one focused entirely on its guests and creating memorable bespoke fullship and full-resort travel experiences built around amazing destinations, stellar entertainment, world-class hospitality, and endless fun. From Blog to Business The Duo Behind Two Bad Tourists

There’s no “right” way to travel. No more than there’s a right way to be gay, to work, to write or to live. Two Bad Tourists started as a gay travel blog operating with that premise: complete liberty to see the world in the way we wanted to. The old travel cliché of “straying off the beaten path” tends to go out the window on arriving at a new destination, as the pressure mounts to see all the main tourist attractions and do all the “important” things. You can’t go to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower, they’ll tell you. You can’t go to Cairo and not visit the Pyramids of Giza. Except you can and – in a lot of cases - we did. Two Bad Tourists is about going your own way and being a “bad” tourist – at least by other people’s standards. Want to have a wild night out in Berlin and not see the city by daylight? Do it! Want to watch the world go by in a quiet LGBTQ+ friendly café on a tucked away road in Vienna, rather than pay a small fortune to enter yet another palace? Why not? Our blog and city guides help travelers find a little bit of everything including the best gay clubs, restaurants, events, and LGBTQ+ tours in addition to the more typical sightseeing, wherever you are in the world. Starting as a personal travel blog, Two Bad Tourists later morphed into a website containing LGBTQ+ travel articles and city guides for most of the gay-friendly cities in the world. Years later it expanded further into guided tours, gay sailing trips, and gay group trips. Not to mention our podcast, Queer Travel Chat, where you can hear our experiences from our own mouths and listen to guests speak from within the LGBTQ+ travel industry as they share a glass of wine with us. Luck is always a factor in building a business. At times we feel like the luckiest guys in the world. But, we also realize that success is hard work and a lot of trial and error. Let us share our story with you of how Two Bad Tourists came to be. Of Wonder and Lust Our story started back in 2005 in sunny Arizona while both of us were attending Arizona State University in Tempe. David studied Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Auston Bioengineering – worlds apart from anything to do with travel. In fact, if anyone had told us what was to come, we’d never have believed them. We met after joining the gay fraternity on campus and

clicked instantly. From there, our relationship progressed and we quickly became a couple. Auston graduated first and started working in Phoenix, but then received a job transfer to Chicago. In order to stay together, David transferred universities and thus we moved to the infamously windy city – which felt like moving from a scorching desert to a tundra during the winter. Upon graduation, David began work as a microbiologist in a lab in the city. In 2010, we sealed the deal and got married. We were still living in Chicago, but we celebrated with our loved ones in Sedona, Arizona. Same-sex marriage might not have been recognized back then, but we had a ceremony and considered ourselves husbands. Despite our love of Chicago, it never really felt like home to us. So, we hatched a plan to move to San Diego, California in order to be closer to our families in Phoenix. Since that meant we’d have to quit our jobs and start over in a new city, we decided to take advantage of the situation by taking a year off. Afterall, what would it matter if we moved there immediately or in a year? Eventually, we arrived at the idea to travel before settling down there. The travel bug had been itching at us for a while. In Auston’s youth, he’d traveled a few times to France where his grandmother was from. Whereas David had traveled a fair amount in high school. He’d also heard stories from his dad and sister of their travels in Asia, which had piqued his interest too. Add to that the little traveling we’d done together previously, visiting Mexico and Canada, and our path seemed set. So, we created a plan to leave our jobs in a year’s time and set off on – as trite as it sounds - the adventure of a lifetime. We researched heavily, sold our possessions, saved money, and accrued airline miles - mostly through travel and credit card points. Then we quit our jobs and bought two round the world tickets – 11 months and 10 cities for the low price of 300 dollars each. Luckily, our families were supportive . . . if somewhat concerned for our wellbeing as gay and relatively inexperienced travelers. Thus, we decided in January 2012 to start our blog – both to journal our travels and to keep our family in the loop – and let our moms know we were still alive to get respite from daily messages inquiring about our wellbeing. Aptly, our very first entry was about buying flights. All set, finally our travels could begin. The Good, the Bad and the Good-Looking We began by flying to Mexico, then explored Europe before heading down to Africa and along to India. Our

blog was simply an informal recounting of our exploits at that point, and we had no initial intention of making it into a business. However, Auston had a eureka moment six months into our travels. Following the advice of fellow bloggers, who we encountered on our travels, we toyed with paid advertisements on our blog. From our first banner ad we earned a grand total of thirteen cents, but it was this event that set the ball rolling. It was November 2012 when we were secluded in northern India up in the Himalayas within the city of Rishikesh – a beautiful place that contrasts tranquility with adventure sports, which is well worth a visit – when Two Bad Tourists came together. We locked ourselves in our hotel room there for three days, eagerly firing ideas back and forth and researching everything from social media strategies to search engine optimization tactics. We had a tug of war over the name – David still to this day insists “Journey Legs” was a good option – but ultimately, for better or worse, we settled on Two Bad Tourists. As much a concept as a name, we’d never felt like we were particularly good at being tourists. Memories of our recent trip to Berlin resided in our minds, where we saw almost nothing of the city . . . at least during the day. So, we found

Two Bad Tourists to be an apt name for our traveling style which is, in short, doing whatever we wanted. From India we continued our travels for six more months visiting everywhere from Thailand and Japan to Brazil and Peru. We both have so many memories of those months, which shaped not only Two Bad Tourists and our blog, but also us as people. Our favorite places are numerous, but Japan certainly stands out as an enigmatic and exciting location where past and future meet. We loved visiting ancient temples and then later trying to figure out the buttons on the advanced toilets. Often it was the people we met that made a trip special. While couchsurfing – a site for sleeping on people’s couches for free – we met an amazing cast of people who provided us with unique insider perspectives on the places we visited. Sometimes it was the people we met on the road who amplified our experiences. We met a rather awesome – and ok…undeniably handsome - guy called Miguel and his friends when in Madrid who showed us a good time in the city - only marred by the fact that David

lost his phone during the trip. Much to our surprise, when we moved on to Lisbon in Portugal, Miguel contacted us again to return the phone in person. He and his friend had already booked a trip to Lisbon and took us around the city and surrounding areas in an unforgettable adventure in their convertible sports car, proving to us that the world is indeed full of good people and lots of surprises. It wasn’t all good of course and we had our share of misadventures. We spent a week on a volunteer trip in an orphanage in Guatemala, which was itself a great experience working with the children in a school, but what wasn’t quite so great is how sick we both got while there. We lay in bed for days recovering with nothing but the light breeze of a small fan to keep us cool in the unrelenting heat of summer. Later, as we were leaving a cafe in Buenos Aires, we went to grab our bag carrying our laptop that we had placed under the table only to find it had already been stolen. Still, we told ourselves it was all part of the experience, and the experience was incredible. All good things must come to an end however, and our year finally ended. But despite wanting a base of operations, neither of us wanted to return back to our old lives in the States. Once more we put our heads together to plan how to keep Two Bad Tourists running and where to do it. There’s No Place Like a New Home For our home base we landed on three options: Mexico City, Buenos Aires, or Madrid. David had always wanted to learn Spanish and so why not kill two birds with one stone, we thought. Finally, we settled on Madrid as the most well connected to anywhere in the world and as one of – if not THE – most gay-friendly cities in the world. We only intended to stay a year but ended up falling in love with Madrid so much we just couldn’t leave. Honestly, what’s not to love about tapas, sunshine, and stunningly attractive men? We continued our adventures, traveling several times a year, but at that point the blog still wasn’t enough to sustain an income alone. So, David found work as an English teacher and Auston as a remote engineer. After three years Auston switched his career to marketing and was eventually recruited by IGLTA (the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association). During this time the blog grew in the background and our website began to flourish with the addition of gay city guides and our weekly newsletter in 2014. The next big step came in 2017 when we were

approached to host and promote gay sailing trips around Europe. This sparked the flame for us later running our own gay group trips. A year later we made the difficult decision to end our relationship, but we remain best friends and business partners which has meant that the breakup did nothing to stop the inexorable progress of Two Bad Tourists. A further bump in the road came with Covid in 2020 putting a stop to any international travel. Auston, like many, was furloughed from his full-time job. But his extra time was pumped into the business, and Two Bad Tourists grew to the point where we were able to make it a full-time career. Things only moved upward from there when we were approached by a new streaming app to launch our Queer Travel Chat podcast – by coincidence on the

10th anniversary of our blog. This podcast added that personal touch we were looking for, letting us connect with both other parts of the LGBTQ+ travel industry and our readers. Shortly after we hosted our very first gay group trip to Barcelona and Sitges in May 2022. The same year we connected with Virgin Voyages to host trips on their cruise ships throughout Europe. Our story doesn’t stop here of course, and Two Bad Tourists continues to grow and adapt to the new age. Our team has expanded and so have our plans. We’re working on creating brand new city guides to our website, launching new gay group trips – including one to Madrid our home city and a gay pub crawl – along with making a third season of Oueer Travel Chat utilizing video as well as audio. As new opportunities emerge, we have a few other travel projects in the works…but we’re keeping those under wraps for now.

Being a Bad Tourist We’ve learned a lot about the world at large and ourselves, both on our travels and from running Two Bad Tourists. Stepping out of our bubble taught us it’s a big world out there and there’s no right or wrong way to traverse it. As LGBTQ+ people it is easy to feel that the world at large is hostile and unwelcoming to us, creating a vicious cycle resulting in inertia. However, queer visibility is important and travel is an important part of that, while putting personal safety first of course. We hope that by sharing our story others will be inspired to follow in our footsteps. Whether you’re visiting Spain - our beloved home country

- with us on one of our gay group trips, taking part in a sailing trip through the serene islands of Croatia and Greece, or climbing the Himalayan mountains solo, gay travel is always an enriching experience - and we can enrich the world almost as much as it does us. We’re a partnership but that doesn’t mean you have to be in a relationship or part of a group to travel. In fact, the majority of our guests on our group trips are solo travelers looking to meet like-minded gay explorers, as much as discover the exciting destinations we offer. As Two Bad Tourists, our goal is simply to share experiences and help you create memories. After all, isn’t that what travel is really all about?

Connecting with Your Customers Several marketing channels, including social media and video marketing, have quickly risen in popularity in recent years. However, email marketing is still one of the most cost-effective ways to reach and keep connected with customers. Email Automation Stats Worth Reviewing Email is an essential part of any successful business. This is true whether you're just starting your business or building a brand that is already widely recognized. As your business grows, you realize that you need to automate your email campaigns to keep up with your customers. Here are some of the statistics that prove the power of email marketing and automation: •

Automated emails can generate roughly 320% more revenue than non-automated campaigns — Campaign Monitor. 87% of marketers use email marketers to distribute their content to their audience — Content Marketing Institute. Automation allows for easier personalization, and personalized ones can generate 50% higher open rates — Yes Lifecycle Marketing.

If you're ready to start automating your email campaigns, here are a few tips you should keep in mind.

send out when your brand is relatively small is simple enough, once you start growing, email automation allows you to do this for many subscribers at once. 2. Build trust with your account holders and subscribers Another benefit of email automation is that it can help you build trust with your subscribers and account holders when used correctly. This can be done in several different ways. Not only is the constant stream of relevant content coming into their inbox a way of building trust with your audience, but specific campaigns, such as email opt-in or security check-in campaigns, can help you prove to your audience that you are serious about protecting their information. 3. Create a customized experience While personalization is key to creating a customized experience for your subscribers, you can use automation to take that experience to the next level. By providing your subscribers with options to choose their email preferences, you can then use those settings to create campaigns based on those preferences and create a truly one-of-a-kind experience for each of your subscribers. Don’t overdo it. Most customers look forward to a few emails each month with offers and tips, but too many emails, or emails about issues not relevant to your customers will prompt them to use the unsubscribe link!

Four Ways to Use Email Automation to Help You Drive Customer Loyalty Email automation is a great way to build customer loyalty. It can also help you reduce your customer churn rate and help you serve your customers better. However, you may not know how it can be used in your business. Here are five ways to use email automation to drive customer loyalty:

4. Build authority amongst your audience and keep them coming back for more When sending out email campaigns to your audience, you must ensure that you provide them with the information they want to receive. This will help you build authority amongst your audience. Once you prove to be a reliable source of information, they'll be more likely to want to receive your emails in the future, share them with their friends and colleagues, and help boost your overall engagement.

1. Welcome new subscribers to your brand Arguably, one of the most effective ways to build customer loyalty is to make your audience feel welcome when they join your email list, and the easiest way is to welcome them with a personalized message.

As you continue nurturing these relationships, word will spread of your brand and knowledge, which can go a long way in building customer loyalty in the long run.

Your audience wants not only to feel like they belong when they join your community but also to be treated like the individual they are. While personalizing each email you

Email marketing is still as relevant as ever, and if you're looking to drive customer loyalty, you’ll want to make sure you’re using the tools to help you succeed, such as email automation.

Reshape Your Body,

Rediscover Your Confidence I faced a harsh reality a year ago as I peered into the mirror, barely recognizing the person staring back at me. The urge to transform my body and rediscover my self-confidence sparked within me, but the pathway was unclear. The answer came in a name I’d never heard before—semaglutide. And the place that would reshape my body and my life? Genesis Health Institute. Dr. Cabrera, Genesis’ Medical Director, introduced me to a treatment plan featuring semaglutide, a groundbreaking weight-loss solution. This revolutionary medication worked wonders! It didn’t merely suppress my appetite; it fundamentally altered my rapport with food. I naturally opted for healthier choices, seeking nourishment instead of momentary satisfaction. Interestingly, its effectiveness went beyond immediate weight control. Dr. Cabrera shared with me that his customized weight loss program and semaglutide were working together as a preventive measure against various age-related diseases, like type 2 diabetes. This

dual action of promoting wellness and preventing illness underlined its significant role in my relationship with food. Fast forward to today, a year later, my journey with semaglutide has led to a transformation I would’ve never imagined. I stand healthier, happier, and brimming with confidence. My mirror reflection has dramatically altered, and so has my outlook on life. I look and feel better and possess a newfound sense of self-belief, an invisible change that outweighs all others. My experience with Dr. Cabrera and his team has been a revelation. It wasn’t merely a treatment I received; I discovered the courage to reshape my body, rediscover my confidence, and reclaim my life. I wholeheartedly recommend Genesis Health Institute to anyone in pursuit of authentic transformation. Give Dr. Cabrera a call today at 954-561-3175 to get started!

Meet Michael Miller An Out and Proud Broward County School Teacher

Florida has long been a challenging place for LGBTQ teachers. In the 1970s, Anita Bryant spearheaded an effort to protect children from their presence in classrooms. Roughly half a century later, the “Don’t Say Gay” bill seems to honor her as a patron saint. Despite this persistent persecution, Michael Miller, an out and proud sixth grade Earth & Space Science teacher at Pompano Beach Middle School, has known the acceptance, praise, and admiration of his students and co-workers for eight years, having been named his school’s “Teacher of the Year” 2019-20. The fact that he continues as a stellar teacher in Broward County Public School teacher gives us hope through our current political and cultural climate. Miller recalls his first days as a teacher, saying, “After getting hired, and surviving the interviews and the tests to get the job, I figured it would all be smooth sailing. Not so. During my first week of school, some of my students started asking the personal questions. ‘Do you have a wife? A girlfriend? Are you married?’ were the most common. After evading their answers for a bit, something clicked in my mind, and I made one of my most important professional decisions. I decided that I was going to be honest with the kids. At the start of each period, I sat each class down and told them we were going to have a little ‘chat.’ I simply told them that I was gay, had a partner

named Peter, and that it should not change anything about their being taught by me, but if they felt awkward or uncomfortable, I wouldn’t hold it against them and would personally get them to one of the other teachers’ classes in 6th grade science. No one left. No one laughed. I believe it’s because kids are actually for the most part okay with the whole gay thing. They just want people to be honest with them. I’ve not had one complaint about being gay in the eight years I’ve been a teacher, not from administration, parents, peers, or students . . . no one.” Miller is all about expanding his students’ horizons, saying, “I like to tell them, ‘My job is to get you on the path to be more than you ever dreamed you could be, but first you have to find that dream and know that it’s possible.’ I also have been the boys’ volleyball coach for the past 6 years. We won the county championship during an undefeated season in 2018-19. That was one of the proudest moments of my life, to be honest. Also, every student and parent of those students every year I’ve coached have known I’m gay and the reason I know this is because Peter, my dear partner, has been my assistant coach (and a damn good one, may I add) almost all of those years.” Miller says, “Becoming a teacher has been the greatest gift I could ever have hoped to receive.”

Gay Federal Agent Cory Allen Talks Debut Memoir ‘Breaking Free’ Cory Allen’s debut memoir, Breaking Free: A Saga of Self-Discovery by a Gay Secret Service Agent, is a deeply personal, candid, and vulnerable dive into the life of a gay man struggling with his own identity, marriage, discrimination, and balancing the demands that accompany being assigned to protect the most powerful people in the world. Allen has served in law enforcement for many years, but eventually went federal after being hired by the United States Secret Service (USSS). Although he delivers an amusing view into his adventurous life of taking on highlevel protective tasks around the world and helping to protect President Barack Obama and his family, Allen also touches on what it was like working in such a hypermasculine field. At the pinnacle of his career, Allen left the Secret Service to restart his life in California and begin the process of finally being his own person. Struggling to break free from societal norms, creating an identity apart from an all-

consuming profession, and learning to listen to intuition are at the heart of Breaking Free. Allen now works as a supervisory special agent in San Francisco, but he took some time to catch up with OutClique and talk more about the book, life with the Obamas, LGBTQ rights, and what’s next. Denny Patterson: What initially inspired you to write the book? Cory Allen: I had been on the go for 10-15 years and never allowed myself the chance to sit still. My work didn’t allow me to sit still, so I never had the chance to process a lot of things that had transpired in my life. I was traveling 60 percent of the time. So, when I left the Secret Service, all that came to an abrupt halt, and that's when I relocated to California and did a reboot. I had just traveled the world, witnessed a lot of history, been through a divorce, moved across the country, and I needed a way to process and document all of it. Then I

started to realize that there was potentially other value in this. After seeing how Michelle Obama’s Becoming book tour affected so many people, I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit to being inspired by her. Denny Patterson: Can you tell us how you began working with the Secret Service? Cory Allen: Once I finished my bachelor’s degree, I knew I wanted to be a federal agent, so I could travel more and live in a supportive community. I was living outside Richmond, Virginia, working for a sheriff’s office that was deeply Republican. I applied to the FBI and USSS, and 18 months later, USSS offered me a position as a Special Agent. Of the locations they offered, Miami made the most sense for my husband and I, both cost and location wise. It was a dream come true, and that allowed me to come out of my shell in my personal life. Denny Patterson: What could have happened if the Secret Service found out you were gay after they hired you? Cory Allen: For the first three and a half years, I probably would’ve been fired for an unjustified reason. I had a lesbian classmate who was fired, so I was very cautious to present the most masculine and straight version of myself, especially after I was blatantly discriminated against shortly after getting to Miami. I had to present two identities. One for work and one for home. This new job was our lifeline, so I had to keep my head down and work hard to stay off the radar. Once SCOTUS overturned the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 2013 and then the legalization of gay marriage in 2015, I felt more empowered to slowly begin to reveal more about my “hidden” home life. I happened to be the first gay USSS agent to demand federal benefits for my spouse and they literally didn’t have a policy for it yet. The same thing occurred when we relocated to Washington D.C., when I was again the first gay agent to demand relocation benefits for my husband.

From hanging out in the British Virgin Islands on Richard Branson’s islands to being in the presence of Bruce Springsteen or Tom Hanks making a joke at my expense, a lot of it was surreal. Beyonce and Jay-Z’s concert right after France won the World Cup in Paris was also epic and unforgettable. Denny Patterson: Could you talk more about leaving the Secret Service to restart your life in California and begin the process of finally being your own person? Cory Allen: Much like writing the book, it signaled things I needed to focus on as an individual and figure out who I was or who I wanted to be. I have always wanted to settle down, have a family, and be an amazing husband and father. I was in a new state by myself and didn’t know anybody, so it was a great opportunity to just be my true goofy, bubbly, and easy going self. The six months I spent in San Francisco alone was a helpful time for me to readjust and start to figure out a path forward. It was two weeks after I moved there that I met my now fiancé on a gay cruise. The last place on earth I ever thought I’d find my favorite person (laughs). Denny Patterson: Do you have any desire to write another book? Possibly one that will dive into fiction? Cory Allen: I do! I plan to write a follow up to Breaking Free, which will pick up at the end of 2019 and forward. A lot has happened since then, especially with our surrogacy journey. There’s a lack of info out there, and I’d like to bring the same honesty to that story as I did with my current book. I’d also like to do a children’s book for our future kids, so they know how they came to be and see representation, as part of a biracial family. I’m open to fiction once I get the second book into editing. It could be fun!

Denny Patterson: What is one of your most memorable interactions with Barack and Michelle Obama? Cory Allen: That’s tough, as they’re such genuine, kind, intelligent, and amazing human beings. They knew our names, their staff was amazing, and they radiated warmth. She still knew who I was six months after I left the agency when I saw them in San Francisco. President Obama had a great sense of humor.

Suicide is NEVER the Answer Suicide rates increased by approximately thirty-six percent between 2000 and 2021 and were responsible for 48,183 deaths in 2021. This represents about one death every 11 minutes. The number of people who think about

68 | OutClique.com

or attempt suicide is even higher. Friends and family remain at a loss when a suicide-related crisis occurs, they are often caught off-guard, are unprepared, and unsure of what to do. The behaviors of a person experiencing

a crisis can be unpredictable, changing dramatically without warning. Research has found that 46% of people who die by suicide had a known mental health condition and 90% have experienced symptoms of mental illness. Other factors which may put a person at risk of suicide are physical disorders, substance use, access to firearms, history of trauma or abuse, recent tragedy or loss, relationship problems, and gender. Although more women than men attempt suicide, men are four times more likely to die by suicide. Suicidal thoughts are symptoms that can be treated and improved over time. Suicide is NEVER the answer! Suicide refers to cases of death, that result from the direct or indirect act of the victim with the intent of taking their own life. Suicide affects people of all ages and is among the top nine leading causes of death for people ages 10-64 and the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-14 and 20-34. Comments or thoughts about suicide, also known as suicidal ideation, can begin small for example, “I wish I wasn’t here” or “I am a burden to others.” Subsequently, the comments can become more specific and dangerous leading to feelings of guilt or shame and a desire to die. Thoughts of suicide can be alarming, but by asking for help or checking in with loved ones, we can avoid harmful and even fatal endings. Emile Durkheim determined that there are four diverse types of suicides. Egoistic suicide relates to the absence of social integration and is pertinent to individuals who consider themselves as outcasts or loners. They view suicide as a release from isolation and loneliness. Altruistic suicide occurs when social group involvement is too high; these individuals’ connection to the group is so intense that they are willing to sacrifice their own life, in honor of the cause. Anomic suicide occurs when individuals lack social regulation. Facing sudden and unexpected changes in situations leads to increased stress and frustration that can push individuals to turn to suicide, as a way of avoiding the situation. Fatalistic suicide occurs when individuals are kept under tight regulation. These individuals are placed under extreme rules or lofty expectations are set upon them, which removes their sense of self or individuality. These people feel that they are predestined to be in such conditions and choose suicide as the only means of escaping such conditions.

Language Matters! Using language that is helpful and respectful encourages an environment free of stigma, where people can talk more openly and safely about suicide and its prevention. Words matter in a world where silence or insensitivity can make matters worse. The more we are open and safe in our communication, the more likely it is that people can offer or seek help. If you are feeling suicidal, you are not alone and there is support available. You deserve to feel supported. Some people find it helpful to create a “safety plan.” This is a tool developed for helping someone navigate suicidal feelings and urges. Warning Signs of Suicide: ● Increased alcohol and drug use ● Aggressive behavior ● Withdrawal from friends, family, and community ● Dramatic mood swings ● Impulsive or reckless behaviors Reach out and support someone in a suicidal crisis. ● Always take seriously any talk of a person being or feeling suicidal. ● If you are concerned about somebody being suicidal, ASK them if you feel comfortable doing so. Talking to someone openly about suicide does not increase their risk of suicide. ● Try to use clear and direct language, for example, “I care a lot about you, do you feel suicidal?” ● People with lived experience of suicide have emphasized how helpful it is to have someone to talk to who listens. ● Listen! Do not try to produce solutions. Listening, and supporting the person in crisis helps to explore options for seeking help and safety. ● Encourage the person to seek help from a behavioral health professional. ● Help Support the person by being there for them when they call a helpline or make an appointment with a health professional. ● Take care of your own mental health and well-being and seek support of your own. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Wilton Collective’s Julian Cavazos A shocking pregnancy! New love! Royalty! Things are afoot at Wilton Collective ahead of their big annual event. “We’re gearing up for our 12th annual Reverse Quinceanera,” owner Julian Cavazos told OutClique. The event, set for Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the Crystal Ballroom at The Manor, is expected to be the biggest, and most scandalous, yet. The idea began as a way to celebrate Cavazos’s 51st (the reverse of 15, the traditional age for a quinceanera) and has become one of the most anticipated fundraisers on Wilton Manors’ social calendar. The highlight of the night is the premiere of a new chapter in their telenovela that follows the campy trials and tribulations of Myrna. Cazavos says that after love and loss and attitude, she returns this year with her biggest scandal yet. “Myrna’s having a baby. She’s ready to drop and it will be quite an episode. She’s going to find love, again, in this episode.” There is royalty in her future, and a lot of queens in our future. This year’s event will feature a talent competition between South Florida’s fiercest drag queens. “We’re looking for drag queen talent. We’ll have a cash prize competition. The winner gets $1500, the runner up gets $750, and third place is $500. It’s a talent competition.

No swimsuit or evening gown, it’s a talent competition. Each contestant does two songs. The top three finalists will perform a song of their choice to decide the winner.” Hosting the big night will be local entertainer Kitty Meow and FayWhat?!, host of the FayWhat?! show. FayWhat?! returns for her second year as host. She is a big supporter of the organization’s mission of helping LGBTQ+ youth, but says she’s really lured back for the drama. “That Myrna girl. She’s got so much drama! I can’t stop watching her telenovela so I can only imagine what she’s going to do this year. I look forward to it.” Tickets start at $75 for general admission. Tables and seats at tables are available and come with dinner. A cash bar is open to all. Proceeds support Julian’s Fountain of Youth, dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth. Wilton Collective helps them learn job skills and the organization also runs programs throughout the year, including sending some to camp. Friday nights are a great time to check out Wilton Collective. They host a cocktail hour and have entertainment. “We’re really excited. Our mixers are every Friday. The Imperial Sun Court of All Florida is now hosting our second Friday of every month and putting on a show.”

TABLE-TOPS FOR BOTTOMS A Conversation with Miss Rhoda Rage Growing up in Queens, New York I was never schooled in the finer points of etiquette and table manners. In our neighborhood, it was acceptable for mothers to scream out the front door when dinner was on the table. I’d race to the kitchen to scarf down my mom’s pot roast before the plate got yanked from under my chin. The table was set with a knife and fork and usually in that order. Paper napkins were jammed in the plastic holder in the center of the table. Spoons were only used by my grandmother as a musical instrument during backyard Bar-B-Qs. So, when OutClique asked me to write an article on etiquette and table manners I immediately accepted saying “Of course! I’m an expert.” Then I panicked and called my dear friend Rhoda Rage, the doyenne of Palm Beach society and an expert in all things proper. Following is a transcript of our delightful conversation. CHARLES: Hello Rhoda. Thank you for taking my call. I’ve been asked to write an article on table manners and etiquette and I had a few questions. I know you’re an expert! RHODA RAGE: Hiya kiddo. You got that right! I know everything. Ask away. CHARLES: OK. When setting a table, what are the basic utensils that must accompany each meal. RHODA RAGE: Well, most people think it has to do with what you’re serving, but it has more to do with who you’ve invited. Since I only use the good stuff, solid silver from my Marie Antoinette collection, I have to make sure sticky fingers friends of mine don’t pocket the butter knives or

dessert forks. The rule is, the less silverware you use, the less you have to count at the end of the night. CHARLES: Speaking of butter, what do I do if I don’t have a butter dish? RHODA RAGE: It’s easy to make one out of foil. I suggest using Reynolds Wrap Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil and taking an origami class at the Morikami Museum in Boca. CHARLES: Must I separate spouses when I do my seating arrangements? RHODA RAGE: It’s OK to sit them together, especially if you don’t have enough napkins. I do suggest however that you separate the good looking people at opposite ends of the table. This will keep your guests’ heads moving back and forth and keep the party very animated even if nobody has anything interesting to say. CHARLES: My mother used to compliment her own cooking. Is it wrong to do so? RHODA RAGE: Not at all! Let them know how fabulous your cucumber salad is before they even taste it. If they dare to challenge you, give ‘em the address of Denny’s on Federal. CHARLES: One last question, if a guest offers to help with the dishes, what do I do? RHODA RAGE: Tell them to work quietly and turn off the lights when they’re finished because you’re going to bed with one of the hot dinner guests and a Vodka on the rocks!

Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance - 25th Anniversary Tour announces engagement at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach November 21, 2023. Michael Flatley's ground-breaking choreography for Riverdance was followed by massive global success with the hit show Lord of the Dance. Michael Flatley once said, "Everyone in the world will tell you, 'No, it can't be done.' Every time I hear that, I know I'm close to success." This philosophy was a main driving factor in the journey to Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance, which Flatley began developing in 1995 following his departure from Riverdance. For a quarter of a century, Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance has been dazzling audiences across the globe with its unique combination of high-energy Irish dancing, original music, storytelling and sensuality. Since its premiere 25 years ago, it has become one the most successful touring productions in entertainment history, having been seen by over 60 million people. Deemed one the most successful touring productions in entertainment history, the show will celebrate its 25th anniversary tour with new staging, new costumes and choreography, plus cuttingedge technology, special effects and remarkable lighting.

Matthew López Brings Beloved LGBTQ Novel Red, White, & Royal Blue to Life After several months of waiting, the highly anticipated LGBTQ rom-com, Red, White, & Royal Blue, is now available for our viewing pleasure. Adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by Casey McQuiston and directed by Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López (The Inheritance), the film stars Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the President of the United States, and Nicholas Galitzine, as Britain’s Prince Henry, who have a total disdain for each other. After a very public altercation at a royal event, the duo is forced into a staged truce. However, when their façade turns into undeniable chemistry, the two young

men must decide how far they are each willing to go for love, as they challenge tradition, duty, and expectations. Red, White, & Royal Blue also stars Oscar nominee Uma Thurman as U.S. President Ellen Claremont, Clifton Collins Jr. as Congressman and First Gentleman, Oscar Diaz, Sarah Shahi as White House Deputy Chief-ofStaff Zahra Bankston, Rachel Hilson as Nora Holleran, the granddaughter of the Vice President and Alex’s best friend, and award-winning actor Stephen Fry as the King of England. OutClique had the opportunity to sit down and talk more

directors, what is some advice you can offer them? Matthew López: Hire Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine (laughs). No, I would say, you have to find the balance of trusting your instincts and being willing to challenge your assumptions. Denny Patterson: Circling back to Taylor and Nicholas, in your opinion, what made them perfect for the roles of Alex and Prince Henry? Matthew López: In relation to these roles, there is a quality to each of them that I think is impossible to define. When we were casting these parts and I met Nicholas and Taylor, it became very quickly apparent to me that these were the guys. They are, at the core, tremendously talented and gifted actors. They understood their characters very, very, very well from the beginning. Taylor is fantastic at transforming himself into something he isn’t. He is so different from his character, and while Taylor is funny and gregarious, he is also quite shy and very quiet at times. Taylor allowed himself to become this human cannonball. Then with Nicholas, he is very adept at protecting a character that he’s playing. Taylor sort of stepped into the body of Alex and became him, while Nick sort of took the character of Prince Henry and held him.

with López about bringing this beloved queer romance to life onscreen, as well as sitting in the director’s seat for the very first time, what made Perez and Galitzine perfect for their roles, how meaningful it was for him to be involved with this film. Denny Patterson: This is your directorial debut. How meaningful has this journey been for you, and what did you take away from this experience? Matthew López: It’s been incredibly meaningful in many ways. One, I have wanted to be a filmmaker since I was a teenager, so to have the opportunity to do this has been great, but also, that it’s in service of this particular story. It feels like a real blessing. I fell madly in love with this book when I first read it, and I chased this job. No one came and asked if I wanted to do this movie. I went to them and told them I was doing this movie. We were very, very blessed and lucky to have a fun and happy shoot. It was a real lovefest. Denny Patterson: For any up-and-coming first-time

Both approached their roles in very different ways and created these indelible performances that you see. Denny Patterson: Which scene was your absolute favorite to direct? Matthew López: I really love the scene where they go into the museum in the middle of the night. We got to shoot in the middle of the night, and it’s the only place in the entire movie where we got to shoot on location. That was magical, and it was just me, Taylor, and Nicholas for six hours. It was great. Denny Patterson: What do you ultimately hope audiences take away from Red, White, & Royal Blue? Matthew López: At the end of the day, I just hope people have fun, and I hope they have an emotional experience with the movie. If they don’t know the book, I hope they fall as madly in love with Alex and Henry as I did when I first read it, and for those who do know the book, I hope they see in this movie something that was made by a fellow fan. I hope they see a version of the story that they fell in love with, and they will want to celebrate it.

Florida Singing Sons Make a Positive Impact on South Florida Students Watching a performance of the Florida Singing Sons, a renowned local boys’ choir, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, it is clear that Artistic Director Daniel Bates has found something special. The boys poised, polished, and impeccably dressed fill the room with a melodious sound so large it’s hard to believe it originated from those so small. The organization, founded in Fort Lauderdale in 1975, has provided thousands of boys in Broward County the experience of being a Singing Son coupled with formal music education—with some boys staying with the choir from second grade through 12th grade. Although growing up isn’t easy for anyone, Bates, a Grammy-nominated tenor and Broward Preparatory School Resident Artist, Voice Teacher, and Opera

Director, recognizes the importance of a space for boys to navigate these challenges. “Puberty is a very different thing for everybody, but especially for boys because they are also navigating the voice change,” Bates said. “The boy soprano, the unchanged voice, it’s really special. It is a really beautiful thing.” The Florida Singing Sons honors this voice, but also makes room for it to evolve. “We create this world where they love, that they revere that sound, but they also know that their voice is going to change,” he said. “And that time when it's changing, when their voice is cracking all the time, when there are squeaks, is really hard for them to navigate. So,

boy, there's the place where we do that right. It's safe. Everybody is going through it. I've gone through it. The other directors have gone through it. We talk about it. They get to talk to older students who are still in the choir who have gone through it.” While the choir has focused on boys for nearly 50 years, the Florida Singing Sons will expand this year to include an all genders choir for ninth through 12th graders in an effort to be more inclusive, while still honoring the mission of the organization. “Seeing what’s going on here and in the world, I wanted to have a space for anybody to join and how do we do that if we are limiting it just to gender? So now, we have a space for boys and we have a space for everybody,” Bates said. Bates said that the choir experience can provide all students so much more than just musicianship. “We use music as the vessel to create good humans. You come here because you have a passion for music, and we use that as a thing. I think music already has an innate ability to draw out and allow us to talk about things like empathy, to talk about compassion, to talk about excitement, joy, sadness,” he said. “And, the setup of weekly rehearsals also teaches them discipline and dedication.” The choir currently serves about 60 students and, of those, forty will be invited to travel on summer tours with the organization, alternating national and international tour dates annually. While the group stayed local this year, last summer they toured Prague, Vienna, Salzburg and Munich.

The group also holds auditions for the choirs in the summer and encourages anyone who wants to sing or volunteer with the group to get involved. “We have people of every background in our organization. We have students from underserved schools and very wealthy school communities. There are no worries or talks about that—we will never turn anyone away because of money. That is one of my biggest things. Come if you want to sing. I’ll figure it out. And, I think that’s huge to give people, what I would call, world-class musical training and experience,” Bates said. Although the interest needs to originate with the student, Bates said that musicianship can be taught. “Most people, I think, just because of reality TV shows like America's Got Talent and American Idol, think we're looking for the best singers. And, of course, we've had a couple of kids come in and wow us, right? But the average one, we're just looking for kids who want to sing and who we can work with who are ready to have fun, and, you know, be silly, but also make music,” Bates said. Bates also sees the choir as a way to build community, which may be one of the most important aspects of the organization, noting that people don’t always have a sense of community. “Music and choir can be that thing—like singing beyond singing,” he said. “Nobody’s going to go out and be the best singer in the world. It’s rare. That’s not the point. The point is enjoyment and that’s what choir is. It’s not a oneperson sport. It’s a team sport. We’re only successful if we all create the thing together.”

Symphony of the Americas With Steven Haines The strings are tuned and the reeds are moist as the curtain rises on a new season for Symphony of the Americas (SOTA). Long a staple of South Florida’s cultural scene, SOTA celebrates the area’s diverse population filled with people from the tip of South America to the frozen tundra of Alaska. With the 2023-24 season starting October 3, at Broward Center for the Performing Arts, SOTA Executive Director Steven Haines talked with OutClique about what fans can expect and how this year’s lineup is designed to attract new fans. The season opener is a pops concert featuring the work of John Williams, the talent behind iconic film scores including Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

“The music of John Williams is a fantastic opening to the season for our subscribers and existing patrons,” Haines said. “It is also a wonderful introduction to new audience members who have not yet been to a Symphony of the Americas performance.” Many people see symphonies as high-brow entertainment that goes over the heads of people who don’t have a degree in music. Haines says starting with a pops concert hits on three of SOTA’s goals: fun, inclusivity, and accessibility. “I use the word accessible very often about Symphony of the Americas. We are not an organization which simply plays the “classics” of the romantic classical composers. As I like to say, Symphony

of the Americas is an intersection of sounds and cultures of the Americas, and influences of European greats from Broadway, Brahms, and Tango.” The season opener promises to evoke a musical memory with every note. “His music is not just the backdrop of films. His music is humanity. His music is soaring and solemn. Even Steven Spielberg said John Williams’ music, the score, becomes one of the most important characters of any film he has created.” Before joining SOTA, Haines spent thirty years in nonprofit and performing arts management. His extensive resume includes work with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, The Young Americans, and music festivals. He came here with the mission of reinvigorating the organization. Haines’s strategy includes rebuilding the audience base, solidifying finances, and raising SOTA’s profile in the community.

parties at Downton Abbey, I think tuxedos are a relic. As I have stated previously, I want the Symphony to be accessible in every way, from programming and price to the concert dress. Too often, that large proscenium or wall between the Symphony and the audience is a barrier which I want removed.” When someone doesn’t recognize a song, it’s an opportunity to experience the music for the first time. One can close their eyes and go along for the journey as the music washes over you. You may experience it differently than the person behind you, and that’s the great part of classical music. Each song and interpretation is as unique as the person listening, including Haines. “One method I use to enjoy music and as you say, to let it wash over me and to surround me, is to think of each instrument like a character in a scene, giving them almost a human aspect. Take it in and revel in it. Sit back, and just say ‘wow.’”

Accessible and Welcoming Bringing in new fans from all over is important to SOTA’s future, and Haines is especially grateful to see South Florida’s LGBTQIA+ community flocking to shows. “I am gratified to also see an ever-growing gay audience base for Symphony of the Americas. It is so wonderful to see my neighbors and friends from Wilton Manors and from throughout the South Florida regions attending the performances. It makes me so very happy to see that level of engagement and enjoyment.” From performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on Halloween to the Holiday Pops concert, fans will recognize songs they didn’t even realize they knew. Even the dress code for musicians is relaxed. Last year, SOTA did away with tuxedos. “Other than at fabulous

Between the additions of Haines and Artistic Director and Conductor Pablo Mielgo, longtime SOTA fans are seeing a very new product. “Veteran season ticket holders have heard more than subtle changes, they have seen and heard substantial changes in the size and quality of the symphony. They have seen performances that were completely sold out for the entire season. At each performance, Pablo turns from his podium and speaks to the audience. He wants the audience to be brought into the performance on stage as a shared experience.” Haines believes that whether you are a long-time patron, or new to Symphony of the Americas, you will see a symphony performance that is welcoming and relaxed. “You will see diverse programs, willing to explore musical pieces and themes from composers which normally don’t have a presence on the symphonic stage.”

Sharks Makes an Opening Splash at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science Sharks is a new blockbuster exhibition making its North American premiere at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Downtown Miami on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The bilingual exhibition, created by the Australian Museum, invites people of all ages into the underwater world of these amazing animals to explore their genetic diversity, territories, interactions, and significance to ocean ecosystems.

The museum has partnered with shark experts from Florida International University’s Center for Coastal Oceans Research to highlight the incredible sharks found locally in Florida. The state is home to a diverse shark population that includes species ranging in size from only a few feet to more than 40 feet in length. Frost Science’s own neighborhood waterway, Biscayne Bay, has been identified as a “nursery” for the endangered hammerhead shark.

Highlighting the very latest science and with deep cultural overlays, Sharks explores the diversity of these ancient fishes. Often misunderstood and misrepresented, sharks are awe-inspiring and fear inducing creatures of the sea that have been around for 450 million years. As guests navigate the exhibition, they’ll encounter ten life-sized scientifically accurate models, including the now extinct 270-millionyear-old Helicoprion (also known as the buzzsaw shark), the bull shark, which lives in fresh water for extended periods of time, and the great white shark, one of the most famous (and feared) species of shark.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a quarter of the world’s sharks are threatened with extinction primarily due to climate change, industrial fishing and pollution damaging our oceans. It is estimated 100 million sharks are killed annually by the world’s fisheries. The exhibition presents the very latest information on conservation, sharks’ impact on oceans, and efforts to protect sharks, including those in Florida. Shark safety is also highlighted, enabling visitors to make informed choices.

A specially designed ‘oceanarium’ showcasing the majesty and power of sharks swimming through the ocean will create a dramatic immersive experience while other interactive displays allow you to navigate through a shark body via a 3-D interactive scan, adapt a shark to evolve and survive in different environments, and see the world in 360-degrees through the eyes of a hammerhead shark. The exhibition also features tactile displays and artifacts, including a megalodon jaw, shark skin recreations, a great white jawbone and tiger shark teeth.

"Sharks are charismatic and largely misunderstood animals. As the top predator in most marine ecosystems, sharks maintain balance within each of the communities they inhabit and yet, because of us their existence is under threat,” says Steven L. Bailey, vice president of biological programs at Frost Science. “We hope that through this exhibition and by observing and learning about the sharks in our Aquarium, guests will leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the important role they play in ocean health. Our actions and attitudes toward sharks are critical to their survival, and perhaps indirectly, our own.”

Todrick Hall’s Velvet Rage Choreographer, actor and singer, Todrick Hall is a multitalented entertainer whose popularity has skyrocketed him into A-list status. Since his YouTube debut over a decade ago he’s released 11 albums, starred in hit reality tv shows including American Idol, and has had several successful Broadway runs including roles in Chicago, Kinky Boots, Memphis, Waitress and The Color Purple. He’s also BFFs with Taylor Swift. Now, the self-proclaimed ‘baddest bi**h of all’ is bringing his original brand of sass to The Parker in his new show, Velvet Rage. “This show is a hybrid of different eras of my career. We’ll be doing music from Straight Outta Oz, Haus Party, Forbidden and Roach Killaz,” says Hall, referring to his previously released albums. He’s also got a few surprises up his sequined sleeve. “I’ll be debuting some new never before heard music, as well as singing perhaps my favorite song to ever exist, that I’ve surprisingly never performed before,” he promises. Fort Lauderdale is just one of the 33 stops on the tour, but one that holds a special place in Hall’s heart. “I have simply fallen in love with Fort Lauderdale, my fans treat me so well here and the weather ain’t too bad either,” he says. “I love how South Florida has embraced the LGBTQ+ community. I have performed here at least

seven times and each time I’m showered with more love than the time before.” Hall’s Velvet Rage is “a story of empowerment that every rebel, freethinker, and dreamer can raise their voice to,” explains Hall. “My cast consists of six incredible dancers, who are trained in many dance styles including hip hop, jazz funk, musical theater, ballet, and heels, plus they’re not too shabby to look at either,” he adds with a wink. Hall who began his own formal ballet training at the age of nine, boasts an impressive resumé which includes roles as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, providing choreography for Beyoncé, and even co-executive producing Taylor Swift’s LGBTQ+ anthem, “You Need to Calm Down”, which earned him a coveted MTV VMA Award in 2019. “I’ve experienced so much career-wise, had some truly eye-opening experiences that have given me more clarity on who I am and what I want to represent as an audience,” he says. “This show will be much more intimate than I’ve ever been at one of my live concerts and I think my fans will get to see a very different side of me and that sort of scares me . . . but I’m in a chapter of my life where I feel like if something doesn’t scare me then it’s not worth doing.” “I’ve never been this excited to hit the road,” Hall continues, “but I think it will be my last tour for a while as I’m pivoting to focus on my love for Broadway!”. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness Todrick Hall in Velvet Rage at The Parker on October 9, 2023.

The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida is preparing for a robust 14th season with the might of recently appointed members to their board of directors joining them. The organization’s Board Chair, Fred Boykin, officially announced the appointments following several months of recruitment, orientation, and elections. The Chorus’s board of directors now includes Erick Eldridge, Director of Special Events from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood; Denise M. Jordan, Executive Vice President for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce; Johnnie Mejia, VP, Sales and Client Experience Specialist, Sr., from PNC Bank; Singer/ Songwriter and Producer Tom Nichols, Chief Operations Officer of The Arcus Foundation, and The Honorable Mayor Judy Paul of the City of Davie. “We could not be happier with the caliber of talent we are attracting for our leadership,” states Boykin. “We’ve spent the past 12 months building our board with people who bring skill sets that we need and relationships that will be valuable as we continue our amazing growth.” The announced board members have joined the Chorus’s existing leadership, which includes current Vice Chair

Kerry Waldee; Michael Foley, current Treasurer; Ronni Arden of Arden Forensics; Robert M. Beaulieu, PLA, ASLA Landscape Architect for FPL; Bill Spinosa, President of The Center for Practice Excellence; and Chorus President Tony Corrente. Recently added board member Denise Jordan was asked about her most recent GMCSF concert experience. “Sitting in the Disney PRIDE in Concert audience, I was struck by the energy and anticipation of the chorus. The exuberance of sheer joy and laughter was refreshing. Music is the world’s greatest equalizer, crossing all boundaries and barriers- a universal language that speaks to our soul and humanity. Music has the power to liberate us from our thoughts. Like the air we breathe, music shapes us, propelling us through a magical journey.” The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida will launch its fourteenth season this fall with more than 170 singers on their roster, making it the most prominent gay men’s Chorus in the southeastern United States. With a budget of over $1 million, the Chorus reaches more than 25,000 people each season through its mainstage concert season and numerous community appearances.

When books and education are under threat in a growing number of states and regions across the USA, when Black and LGBTQ+ history and culture are under attack, who better than the brilliant and defiant, Billy Porter to stand up and lead us in the right direction. The time is now to stand with Billy and Stonewall and let your voice be heard. Sponsorship opportunities are available at all levels.
