CORPORATE EMPLOYMENT INDEX FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER & QUEER COLLEGE STUDENTS
© 2010 Northrop Grumman Corporation
We’re proud of our differences. All 120,000 of them.
www.northropgrumman.com
At Northrop Grumman, more than 120,000 people work on projects that stretch the boundaries of possibility on land, in the air, at sea and deep into space. That demands a workforce as diverse as its workload. Smart people from all walks of life contribute countless unique perspectives every day. We’re proud to be a sponsor of Out for Work.
Dear Student, Deciding where to work, whether it is part time as a student, an internship to gain experience, or that first job after graduation, many factors weigh into your decision. With the slow job recovery a reality of the current economy, finding an organization that is hiring and LGBTQ inclusive is paramount. The H.O.T List will help you do just that. In its third release, the H.O.T list, which stands for Hiring Out Talent, returns with a mini facelift; bigger format, more data, and advertisements from companies leading the way in LGBTQ workplace inclusion. At its core, The H.O.T List is the only career resource that provides an index of organizations and brings together the two elements that you are concerned with—who’s hiring and how LGBTQ inclusive is the work environment? Using data from multiple sources (including but not limited to, Collegegrad.com and HRC), each organization received one of the following ratings: Burning HOT
HOTTER
HOT
The index weighs the number of entry level hires a company anticipates hiring more heavily than the LGBTQ rating in the overall calculation. One hundred and nine companies made the H.O.T List this year. Out of that pool of 109, 13% received the Burning HOT rating. Of the 14 companies that received the Burning HOT rating, 10 are currently supporting OUT for Work initiatives or have done so in the past. Many of those organizations that received Hotter and Hot rankings this year are in fact best in class when it comes to creating LGBTQ equitable work environments, however, overall projections to hire entry level talent in the next year were cut short due to the current economic climate. Therefore, these organizations received a lower overall score. Special thanks to those organizations that helped fund this publication: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Sodexo, KPMG, and Cargill. Next fall look for even more from the H.O.T. List and additional Out for Work publications and online tools currently in development. Visit www.outforwork.org for all the details. Looking forward,
