Editor’s Note

Spring semester has started, which means Thread is back! We’re so happy to be back to the grind of creating this publication. There have been some key changes for the publication that we’re very excited to share with you.

First, we have a new multimedia director: Kate Anderson. Kate is wildly talented and a perfect addition to the team. Next, we have a whole new fashion team, including Co-Directors Samantha Kruse and Riley James, Assistant Director Makenzie Price, Model Liaison Aliyah Graham, Makeup Director Alexis Ky, and Head Styling Assistant Grace Auble. All of these women are working closely with our photo team to take our photoshoot concepts and execution to new heights, and I’m incredibly proud.

I cannot sing my praises of the executive board and the rest of the staff enough, so I’ll let their work speak for them. We’ve got great photos for our celebrity style, featuring Lorde (P.22) and Angus Cloud (P.24), as well as two incredible profiles on the beloved Betty White (P.48), whose recent passing shook the world to its core, and Law Roach (P.52), whose contributions to the fashion industry are unmatched.

Additionally, we wanted to focus on some back-toschool self-care, featuring a guide to curl patterns (P.34), the benefits of pimple patches (P.42), and a DIY guide to the art of affirmations within selfcare, such as mindfulness and meditation (P.62). We’ve also got some great features on topics like microtrends (P.158) and fashion in Appalachia (P.164).

For our Middle of the Book shoots this issue, we wanted to get more creative than ever before. First, we honored fashion around the globe (P.86). Next, our Photo Editor Corrin Switzer constructed an incredible, dreamlike design to represent the sky for her clouds shoot (P.100). We also featured the iconic figures from tarot cards (P.114) and got up close and personal within the texture of clothing (P.124), focusing on heavier editorial fashion. Finally, we have our six looks, featuring the iconic Marvel Avengers with modernized outfits inspired by the heroes combined with comic-style makeup looks (P.138).

We are so happy to bring you the first issue of this semester. We hope you enjoy it and feel our excitement glimmering through every page.

Much Love,
