He’s blond, he’s funny, he’s British and even though he stars on a hit comedy called You’re The Worst, take it from me--Chris Geere is kinda the best. Get to know one of TV’s hidden treasures in issue 137.

Aston Martin Launches Its “Second Century” With The Brand New DB11 In November 2016 BY BRENT LAMBERT

Aston Martin launches its Second Century campaign in November 2016 with the launch of its brand new DB11. If the design itself doesn’t make you pee your pants, then the speed very well could -- its V12, 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged gasoline engine produces a whopping 600 horsepower. With an equally whopping price tag of $211,995 (before U.S. taxes), the DB11 is filled to the brim with impressive engineering, including environmentally friendly technology that automatically turns off 6 of the 12 cylinders when they’re not in use.

Aston Martin writes, “History could have clipped our creative wings, but we used it to our advantage. To honour the ‘DB’ legacy we distilled Aston Martin design down to its very essence and used it to create something evolved, bold and fresh. For The BoBo In SoPi: Go Inside The Stunning Grand Pigalle Hotel In The Paris Of Toulouse-Lautrec BY BRENT LAMBERT

Few painters captured the magic of Paris better than Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901). An unrivaled master of light, color and spirit, Toulouse-Lautrec’s paintings forever preserved and defined 19th century Paris — from the decadent to the sublime.

Now, fast forward to 2016 and it’s another of the master painter’s biggest loves that has become all the rage — his home borough of South Pigalle (i.e. SoPi). In a feature profile for The Guardian, John Brunton explains more about the uber-trendy new zone. “Although #124 issue - BELLOmag.com

tourists alighting at the Pigalle metro station tend to walk up towards Montmartre and the Sacré-Coeur, hipster Parisians — the self-styled BoBo (bourgeois bohemians) — head in the opposite direction, to South Pigalle, the latest trendsetting neighbourhood in the City of Light. Once one of the quieter corners of the city, 40

features the masterful interior designs of Dorothée Meilichzon (CHZON). If these photos from Kristen Pelou aren’t enough to inspire a future stay at Le Grand Pigalle, then nothing will. You can book your stay by visiting the hotel’s website at www.GrandPigalle.com (photos courtesy of Grand Pigalle). known as La Nouvelle-Athènes for its monumental architecture, South Pigalle has picked up a new anglicised name, SoPi, with new places opening up every week. At night, now that the sleazy old haunts have all but disappeared, it’s all stylish cocktail bars and dance clubs.” For visitors to the area there are many hotels to choose from, but few can match the restrained elegance of Le Grand Pigalle Hotel located at 29 Rue Victor Massé. Owned and operated by the team at the Experimental Group (i.e. close friends Romée de Goriainoff, Pierre-Charles Cros and Olivier Bon), Le Grand Pigalle Hotel 41

James Neate WORDS BY MICHELLE GANNEY PHOTOS BY MATTHEW CHEN

James Neate is a model turned actor who has become one of the most interesting faces to keep an eye out for. He quickly raised to the elite level of international modelling in his late teens and early 20’s, working for some the industry’s biggest labels including Armani, Lacoste, Dolce & Gabbana, Vivian Westwood and Fendi. Once he returned from New York to his hometown of Vancouver he set his sights on the acting world. It didn’t take him long to break in, booking a lead role on the ABC pilot Pretty Little Liars. Since then James has become a regular on the small screen with turns on CTV’s Motive, SyFy’s Van Helsing and a recurring role on CW’s The 100. Next up you can see James working opposite Wentworth Miller in the new Prison Break: Sequel as well in CW’s iZombie.

Bello mag: I understand your hometown is Vancouver, which is where a lot of shows are filmed. Did this inspire you to get into film and TV? James Neate: It’s pretty incredible how Vancouver has evolved into such a stable industry for film and television production. As much as things are thriving in Vancouver it never really played into my passion for the medium of film and tv. Spending my 20’s in New York I was fortunate enough to see some of the greatest theater actors perform on stage from Frank Langella , Philip Seymour Hoffman, to Pacino. These performances are what galvanized a relentless personal pursuit of the dramatic arts. I fell in love with acting. BM: You have played several roles on the small screen, including some of the most watched shows on The CW and ABC. And now you have an incredible role opposite Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell in the new Prison Break: Sequel. Tell me a little bit about this show? You play Luca’s Associate, what is your character like? Tell me a little bit about his personality and his purpose in the show? JN: Although, I’m not allowed to speak much about my character or give away any plot points.. I can say that my character is definitely not the kind of guy you would want to cross in a dark alley. Working with Wentworth Miller was an absolute pleasure. The lead on a show really sets the tone for the whole production and I must say he is a class act and a very talented individual. BM: Any new show is exciting and challenging, especially sequels or prequels. How are you feeling about being part of this iconic franchise? Were you a big Prison Break fan prior to getting this role? JN: I couldn’t be happier to be part of this franchise. It just speaks volumes of how popular the show is when it can go off the air for years only to return in such a triumphant fashion. I have been catching up on missed episodes in anticipation for the return. #124 issue - BELLOmag.com

44

BM: In 2017 we will also see you in CW’s iZombie. Tell me about the story this series? JN: iZombie is one of my favorite shows to watch so subsequently I did my best to reign in my inner fan boy and be professional. The whole cast and crew have a very familial vibe that makes

for some of the shortest long days I’ve ever had. BM: The world seems to be obsessed with zombies in film and television e.g. The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, The Returned, Warm Bodies etc. What makes your show different to all the others?

JN: The thing with izombie that sets it apart is that its very self aware in the same kind of way that a film like Deadpool is. I think it’s a very refreshing quality to be able to laugh at yourself. BM: You play Topher, what is your role in the show? Do you get to play a zombie? JN: My character is the kind of guy who sleeps with crystals next to his bed for energy, wakes up meditates then thanks the sun for being there every morning. He is very alive and most likely gluten free. BM: Is there a role that you want to explore that you haven’t had the opportunity to do yet? JN: My favourite genre of film would have to be Sergio Leone’s series of spaghetti westerns. So playing some lone stranger riding his steed into town with a six shooter on his hip would be a dream come true. :)

MOSTLY ALL OF AMERICA WILL RECOGNIZE CHRIS GEERE AS JIMMY SHIVE-OVERLY ON FXS HILARIOUS, AT-TIMES SLAPSTICK COMEDY; YOU’RE THE WORST, WHERE HE SHARES THE SCREEN WITH HIS ON AGAIN, OFF AGAIN ON-SCREEN BEAU, GRETCHEN, PLAYED BY AYA CASH. THE 35-YEAROLD IS HERE TO HOLD AND KEEP THE PLACE OF THE ANTI-HERO ON TELEVISION. AS HE PUTS IN IT IN OUR INTERVIEW, HE PLAYS A CHARACTER THAT IS BOTH “LIKABLE AND UNLIKABLE IN THE SAME EPISODE.” IT’S NOT EASY, BUT HE MAKES IT SEEM SO. AFTER A FEW NOTABLE STINTS ON VARIOUS UK TELEVISION SHOWS, THE CAMBRIDGE BORN ACTOR, FLIPS THE BEAT-DOWN IDEA THAT BLONDES ARE ALMOST AWAYS NICE-GUYS. ISN’T THAT RIGHT, AMERICAN TELEVISION? COMING OFF A WHIRLWIND YEAR, THE RISING STAR REFLECTS ON HIS CHARACTER AND THE LITTLE SHOW THAT COULD, PRIME-TIME’S FAVORITE LOVE STORY FOR THE NEW AGE.

49

I think the show’s super funny, but initially, because of the reasons that it is so unapologetic, did you think it’d have trouble finding an audience?

The show started with your character and Gretchen meeting in a very unusual manner. I imagine that your life is a world of different. How did you meet your wife?

No not really. I think Stephen Falk, our creator sent out, not only to write a comedy, but write something that was very very current. A story of relationships in a certain age. It’s not all three jokes a page anymore. Real life is very different. I think our show explores all those different tones. We can portray characters that are likable and unlikable in the same episode. That range, it is still a joy to do.

Very different situation! [laughs]. I met my wife at a music festival, she’s actually a jazz musician. She was playing one evening, and I went to request a song—but with a hidden agenda [laughs], hoping for her phone number. I requested a song, and three minutes later another song and asked her if she wanted to come for a drink with me. I was sitting there, just messing around, staring at someone across the room, and said, you know what? Just go for it! Make that move. We’ve been together for nearly 10 years so..it worked.

Jimmy has his share of ups and downs and personal hangups. What would you say is his most redeemable quality? He’s just a normal guy at the end of the day. He’s the voice of unreason, he says and does things that are stupid, but he’s just as everyone is, a person who is striving to be as happy as he can be. He wants love like the rest of us do. I think when you see those moments where he softens, we find that he’s not as ridiculous as we thought. He finds a balance inside himself. And rather than going with things, on the show we see him do the opposite. Like fighting the connection with Gretchen so to speak.

You’ve done a lot of television work before You’re The Worst. I was wondering, is the experience any different working on a BBC series as opposed to an American one? There’s a lot of similarities, and a lot of differences. From a personal point of view, it is quite nice waking up before your call time, at say O’clock, when the sun is shining. Which is very different from how I used to work in England, and it was pitch black in the morning with sideways rain. But I am blessed to be working, so none of it is a negative for me. However, It definitely,

you know, brings about a positivity over your day waking up that way. The people are wonderful out here in Los Angeles, and I was quite nervous when I started, to fit into this new system as one would say. But I feel like a very grateful part of furniture really. So, the show deals with the opposite of a RomCom kind of love story. It’s perfect comedy. What’s your liking of comedy like? I really think that ricky Gervais, when he did the office, changed comedy forever. That fly-on-thewall documentary style became very very current, almost aiding to a certain kind of comedy. That one sticks out. 51

Season three come to a close. Thoughts? I have to give it to our writers who are so clever and have just taken the show on this new direction that is both smart and funny. They’re writing more for us now than ever before. This season, you see the rhythm of the text has been written for the actor. It’s very exciting. I love it! Personally, I’m feeling great. There’s a great comfortability between us. Theres a real familiarity on set now as well. The nervous excitement is still there of course. I think that is always a good thing.
