Letter from the Editor

Winter is coming and yes, do not laugh, Los Angeles gets really cold! Cold enough for me to have escaped to Los Cabos for the opening of the Hard Rock Hotel. What a magical time that was! I got to see Bret Michaels, Enrique Inglesias, and Lil Jon perform as I sipped on my champagne and soaked in the warmth and sea breeze of Mexico. The perfect work getaway. But trust me, while I was gone the wheels kept turning here at BELLO, and we put together an amazing issue!

Maejor Music producer, songwriter and recording artist from Detroit, Maejor is making a difference in the world through his music. Having written and produced songs for artists like Martin Garrix, Justin Bieber and Post Malone (just to name a few), the talented singer has been part of a variety of genres. For him, it has been a true blessing and an unreal experience working with all this talent. When it came to integrating his style with theirs, the young artist shares: “I think with artists like that the producer’s job is to provide them with a canvas and get out of the way. They are naturally gifted and it’s just an honor to create with them.” Humble and kind, Maejor uses music to serve a greater purpose.

His love for creating music started at the age of sixteen when he was putting together beats on his computer. He was living in Detroit and going to school in the hood but found his connection to music; he was hooked instantly. After all, music has played a huge part in his life and has healed him numerous times, “It’s been the greatest gift of my life and something I’m most grateful for,” he shares. From his own healing process through music, the talented artist has decided to spread this with the rest of the world through sound therapy. But what is sound therapy? Well, as Maejor explains, sound therapy is utilizing the frequency of sound to bring us into greater harmony. It’s a science that goes back thousands of years, “I am not the creator or anything…” he shares laughingly. Woah, that got technical. Let’s take it back a notch. So, it turns out that he stumbled upon this when looking into how he could deeper use his gifts to serve. As he started looking into it, he fell down ‘the rabbit hole’ and then it just took off from there: “I started studying brainwaves, binaural beats, resonance, mantras - all of these really cool things related to sound and how it affects us.” Maejor found his passion and has become a mentor for those around him. While producing and writing music is what he does, the talented and experienced artist has a bigger vision in mind: he wants to influence young teenagers who struggle with their life and finding their identity. Music is the tool to keep young teens from giving into their insecurities and frustrations and guiding them to see there is a world out there filled with light, positivity and opportunities. This also helps young professionals deal with stress and anxiety in a healthy manner. Boom, Boom, Boom; feel the rhythm of the music like you feel your heart beating. Those different frequencies bring your body, mind, and soul alive; reminding you to keep your chin up and feet moving forward. Maejor grew up in Detroit but his family’s roots come from Jamaica which has had a strong influence on his music and being. As he expresses laughingly: “Yeamon! It influence everyting mon’.” There is a little bit of an island vibe in his music style. As you turn on one of his songs, you can hear the work that was put into it. What makes his music making process unique is that he sets a clear intention for what kind of effect he wants his music to have on the listener-very, very intentional he emphasizes. His inspiration stems from a sound, a color, a feeling, a concept: “something to spark the interest and then the rest of the song forms around that initial gift of an idea,” as he explains. The man in all white brings light, love and healing to those around. Maejor’s goals to help others are profound and important to him. By using his own life experiences, he can help inspire those going through similar tough times and give them some guidance. He is an advocate and spokesperson for the Cancer Research Society, teaches at APCH which is an after school program for kids in South Central and he is a music supervisor in Compton. With so much love in his heart, the artist has truly stepped into the light and into his role as spiritual guide. There is good and there is bad in the world, but Maejor brings out only the good with his love, light, strength and positivity. He is a pure soul whose experiences have allowed him to be of better guidance for those in need. Through sound therapy, he is healing the world one day at a time and taking everyone to a higher level. On the horizon is his first project Vol 1 Frequency, in which all of the songs are composed using a=432hz. Open your mind, open your heart, and let his music heal you all the way.

SPOT LIGHT

RISING LATIN ARTIST YASHUA GIVES INSIGHT TO HIS INSPIRATIONS Yashua is a 19 year old Dominican-American singer who made his debut on the singing competition La Banda. He is on the rise in the music scene, and has recently worked on features with Matoma and Dillon Francis. In addition to his highly anticipated features, Yashua has already worked with producers in Los Angeles as well as Latin producers and songwriters such as Justin Quiles, ICON, The Rude Boyz, and Andy Clay. With anticipated success, Yashua gave us insight into his background, family, and what inspires him.

Tell us more about your background and how it has impacted who you are as a singer and dancer. Having a creative family definitely has helped me because I have in me creative pieces from each member of my family.

How would you say your music has evolved in the last few years? My music has changed a lot, I can say I have better quality because of the producers I’m working with now and I’ve learned a lot from different songwriters and sessions I’ve had. Tell us more about your EP 777.

Do you remember the first full dance number you ever performed as a kid?

777 has a powerful message behind it not only that 777 is God's number but that the songs tell you somewhat of my story and it’s written for a person I knew or know so it comes from a true place and it’s a real life story.

First dance number I learned as a kid was probably “bye bye bye” by NSYNC. What was the best part of dancing with members of your family? Best part of dancing with my family - it’s the joy we bring to other families that have that same connection or inspire them to do it as well. And that our uncles where our teachers so even just being at home we would put music on, in the living room and start breaking it down. You were signed with Magnus Music in collaboration with Pulse Music Group after promoting your dance online. What were some of the challenges you encountered beforehand? Before signing with Magnus/Pulse I was in the studio constantly creating new music and some of the difficulties I would face at times where a lot of doors were closed for me and a lot of the producers didn’t want to sit down with this shy kid because they didn’t believe but once we sat down and made a song and they saw what I could do, it was nonstop working from there.

Other than dancing and singing, what are some of your hobbies? Other than dancing and singing, I write most of my songs on the piano or the guitar, I luv the warmth of an acoustic guitar and the fairytale sound of a piano. I’m also into fashion and I like designing and creating cool stuff. What is one of your most embarrassing stories? An embarrassing story of mine is that when I was younger I had a missing front tooth and I confidently went up to a girl to ask her out and she laughed at my face and said no hahaha. Who do you look up to the most? God is first in my life and there’s not a better teacher, but I would say Kanye just cause we can see what God can do through us when we follow him. You can listen to Yashua's EP 777 on streaming platforms now.

What inspires you to create? My writing comes from my emotions or the things I know or have experienced so definitely life experiences that I went through, relationships emotional or just business ones have inspired me to write more songs and has given me more stories to talk about.

Do you remember the moment when you realized that acting was something you could really go somewhere with? I always knew that I wanted to be an actor from a very young age. After high school, I applied and was accepted into several universities. I was still working on Under the Dome, and when it came time to make a decision, I realized that being on a set vs. sitting in a classroom is where I wanted to be. Tell us about one of your first experiences on set. (How old were you? What were you feeling?) My first time acting was when I was five years old on the set of Sweet Home Alabama. I am not sure exactly what I was feeling at such a young age, besides excitement. For me, acting has never been like a job, it has just been something that was a part of me. I love to travel and to meet new people; all I’ve ever wanted to do was entertain people. Who have you worked with in the past that has made you a better actor? Working with Matt Damon changed my life. Matt showed me the kind of man and actor I want to be. He has a fantastic career, wonderful family, and is generous to everyone he meets. I admired how he was able to give himself to his work, and still make time for his family. He taught me to always remain humble and I will never forget that experience. What has been your favorite scene to film to date? What makes it so special? There is a scene in We Bought A Zoo, where Matt tells my character (his son, Dylan) that all you need is 20 seconds of courage, 20 seconds of insane bravery, and you can change your life around. I know it was just a story and a script, but I held onto that. Every time I am nervous or afraid, I just remember: 20 seconds of courage. You are now playing the lead in Netflix's Daybreak. What is different about this role versus others you have played in the past? I love the responsibility of playing the lead in a series. Up until this point in my career, I generally have played someone’s son. While I am certainly thankful for every single job I have ever done, having a more substantial role in a series feels really good. There were some long days on set, but I was totally happy because I knew I was making something very special. The show is set in a post-apocalyptic world. If you actually lived in a post-apocalyptic world, what would be one thing you would save? What do you think is a quality of yours that would allow you to survive?

What is a new challenge that you have encountered in playing the role of ‘Josh’? “So I hear you’ve been talking to-camera, how are you finding it?” Was one of the first things Matthew Broderick said to me while filming. I replied, “So far so good! One thing that is a little tricky is…” and before I could finish my sentence, Matthew added, “the fact that you can see your reflection in the lens.” “That’s it!” I replied, surprised to hear that Matthew could relate. It was a relief to hear that something that was a new challenge for me, was for him as well. I was able to overcome it and just focus on the acting. Challenge completed! Outside of playing ‘Josh’, what might we find you doing on a free night? On a free night, I might be out with friends or having people over to my house to hang and watch a movie or sports. I’m a big sports guy, I love to watch basketball, football, and baseball. Really excited about basketball season now, especially with two stacked teams in LA! If you had a movie/television show about you, whom would you want to play Colin Ford? Getting to be an actor has been my dream come true, it’s all I ever wanted. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and had no connections to the entertainment business whatsoever. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anyone specific that I would want to play me, so I would do a worldwide search to cast someone and hopefully make their dreams come true. If I was casting someone to play a younger me, then I would pick my Daybreak mini-me, Gavin Warren, he was a pleasure to work with and a fine young man. Global warming is a big threat to the state of our planet. Do you believe this will be the end of it? What do you think needs to be done to keep the planet alive? I think education mixed with conversation is key. The other day, a friend and I were chatting about recycling and I hadn’t known how harmful some trash bags were. For instance, black plastic bags aren’t recyclable, so now when I go to the store to restock, I’m going to purchase a brand that is specifically recyclable. Without the conversation with my friend, I would have kept buying the same trash bags that I am used to. Just a small conversation taught me something new, and now I can make more of an effort to make a smarter, environmentally friendly choice. If we all become more aware of things that are harmful, I think we can be better equipped to make wiser, conservational decisions.

I would save my family (dogs included). I wouldn’t want to rebuild a new life in the apocalypse if I didn’t have the ones I love the most by my side. I’m very practical and tenacious. I think those qualities would serve me well in the apocalypse. I wouldn’t give up!

There are a few projects you star in coming out such as Mad About You and Little Women. What was your favorite moment on each set? My favorite moment on the Mad About You set so far happened on the night of our first taping. I ran out on stage for the first time and forgot my lines. Helen Hunt, who plays my mom on the show, told me that it’s good that I messed up because the audience thinks it’s funny. She turned an otherwise terrifying moment into something positive, and I think that moment really set a tone of understanding, comfortability, and ultimately, fun that I have continued to find every day on set. My favorite memory on the set of Little Women was when I walked past Meryl Streep and nervously said hello and she said hello back. Still can’t believe that happened. What is it like working on the follow-up to the popular 90’s sitcom Mad About You? How will it continue that original story? It’s been a dream come true, and a great learning e xperience for me. I’ve never worked on a sitcom before, and it’s been really exciting to get out of my comfort zone and learn something entirely new. I play Paul and Jamie Buchaman’s daughter, Mabel, and the show picks up with Mabel heading off to NYU for her first year of college, and we get to see her parents’ first experience with being empty nesters. It makes for some pretty hilarious moments. You also starred in the recently released film, After the Wedding. Do you think being part of the cast of the film allowed you to create an even better song for it? If yes, how so? Definitely. Knowing the story and the characters so well gave me a lot to work with when I started writing the song. Writing the song was also a way for me to process the experience of filming, and to reflect on the story and the individual characters in a new way. What did you enjoy about writing and recording “Knew You For A Moment?” What inspired you? Bart Freundlich called me and told me that he was hoping to use one of my songs for the end of the film. After talking to him, I went home and wrote a new song from the perspective of Michelle Williams’ character, Isabel. I think what I enjoyed most is not having a plan before writing, and seeing where the process took me. I hadn’t been planning on writing from Isabel’s perspective, so it was really interesting to me when the song started taking shape in that way. Did the singing or acting come first, or did they come together all at once? Hmm, that is a hard question, honestly, because I always remember being really passionate about both, but if I had to choose, I would say that the singing came first because it was what I pursued first. I first pursued singing when I was in elementary school when I auditioned for my school’s production of The Wizard of Oz . I remember being so nervous for the audition, but also really excited about the possibility of singing on stage. I ended up getting the role of a munchkin, and I never really looked back. From there, I would say that it quickly became about both singing and acting for me, as I realized that I loved to do both equally.

Bello

What is your songwriting process like? I journal a lot, and I find that most of the time my journal entries become my lyrics. I also write a lot of notes on my phone throughout the day. And then when I’m at home with my guitar, I work on finding melodies that compliment the lyrics. My process definitely varies from song to song, sometimes I start a song and come back to it months later to finish, and other times, I’ll write a song in ten minutes. I find that I’m most inspired to write when I’m by a body of water, or surrounded by lots of trees. I’ve also written a lot of lyrics in airports. Share with us what a day in the life of Abby Quinn is like. I wake up and immediately find coffee. If I don’t drink coffee within an hour of waking up, my eyes will start to close, and I will fall back asleep. I like to wake up pretty early so that I have a good amount of time to enjoy the coffee and journal. After that, I usually workout. I like to go to yoga or do weight training. I just signed up for a beginners karate class so if all goes well, that might become a part of my routine too. If I’m not filming, I’m usually focused on auditioning. If I’m not auditioning, I like to play and listen to music, go to concerts, watch movies, rollerblade, spend time outside, and hangout with my friends and family. When I have downtime on set, I like to read. I just started ‘No Longer Human’ by Osamu Dazai, and I’m really loving it so far. My nights end with me watching a show on my computer, and DMing my sister a bunch of photos and videos that I find funny. I then set 20 alarms and go to bed. What’s your spirit animal and why? I think the animal I’m most like is a goat. I want to say horse, but I know in my heart that I am more like a goat. I’m very curious and independent and I love to climb. I can also be quite jumpy at times, and I would love to live in the mountains one day. Three movies you would bring to entertain yourself on a deserted island? Labyrinth, Grease, and Like Crazy. Honorable mention is the movie Spirit. What would you do with a million dollars? I would put some money aside for my family, and donate the rest of the money to organizations that I feel really passionate about, such as Planned Parenthood, The Trevor Project and the Child Mind Institute. What will you be doing one year from today? I’m not sure where I will be or what exactly I’ll be doing, but I hope that I’m happy, working on something that I find fulfilling and that I’m with people I love. I’m writing this on October 18th, so I’m sure that a year from now I’ll be thinking a lot about what I’ll be dressing up as for Halloween.

Rock on at Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos By Alexandra Bonnet

As the wise Bruce Springtsein once said in Guitar Magazine (1999): “We’re here to re-dedicate you to The Power, The Passion, The Mystery, and The Ministry of Rock and Roll.” And let me tell you, that is exactly what happened at the Grand Opening of Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos…and more. Three nights, four days, and dozens of new encounters later, I am still living in the rock’n’roll world of Hard Rock!

The opening of the Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos was an unforgettable one. Paired up with AIC Hotels, visitors are guaranteed a magical stay both for adults and families. With 639 rooms and 60,000 square feet of meeting space, luxurious all-inclusive amenities, and exquisite services, you have everything you need. Pools, water slides, fine dining, spas and more; the hotel is fully equipped to ensure your stay will be memorable. “The property will offer amenities like no other, for traveling families, and groups of friends alike,” stated Frank Maduro, vice president of Marketing for AIC Hotel Group. “Guests will experience an all-inclusive resort in true Hard Rock style – exclusive amenities, entertainment, and nightlife that are all unique to the brand provide an extra flair that will exceed all expectations.” Celebrations started with a live performance of Bret Michaels for Pinktober where a wave of guests dressed in pink supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A pink Fender guitar autographed by Michaels was auctioned off for donations to Los Cabos Women’s Wellness Foundation, and Mexican artist, Fermin La Calaca, created a masterpiece honoring the opening, as he painted a live portrait of Bret Michaels. to see! People from all around the world gathered for a fun time and beautiful cause. The following morning media had the chance to attend one of the most spectacular Press Conferences: lights, music, food and positive energy filled the ballroom as we got to know a bit more about the hotels’ making and its mission. We had the pleasure of hearing Andrea Enzo Melotti, VP of Operations Hotels & Casinos for Hard Rock, to speak on behalf of Hard Rock International and Frank Maduro, VP of Marketing, AIC Hotel Group to speak on behalf of property and AIC among more. Having an all-inclusive experience is a game changer and allows you to feel like a rockstar and enjoy the hotel and all its benefits. Furthermore, they have a program which helps the families of the staff as they provide healthcare, education, and more. It is safe to say that everyone’s needs are taken care of! A real family was put together and the minute you step foot in the hotel, you will feel welcomed right away. Of course, it was time for us to continue enjoying your stay as we were whisked off to our spa treatments.

As you make your way to your locker and get ready to test the amenities before your treatment, staff members welcome you and are here if you need anything. Stepping into the steam room? Water is brought to you to keep you hydrated and that is just the tip of the iceberg! I’ll let you find out for yourself what other surprises the Hard Rock Spa holds for you. After a nice self-care day we got to dine in the amazing TORO Restaurant which serves steak that will have you dreaming about it for days after. Laughter and profound conversations were heard across the table as we awaited the infamous red carpet which welcomed celebrity host, Mario Lopez, Scott Eastwood, Erika Christensen and Alfie Allen from “Game Of Thrones,” among many more. Following the red carpet was the legendary guitar smash where many gathered on the beach to get to smashing!! Let’s not forget the taco trucks that were posted up near the beach day and night…Yum! Fireworks were lit up and voilà, it was official: Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos was open!! The night was not over yet. With a special performance by the infamous Enrique Inglesias, you better have had your dancing shoes on! What an amazing crowd and show that was. Everyone sang along as screams were heard and recording cameras were out! Hot, hot, hot!! Adrenaline running through our veins, we made our way to the neon-themed after-party which took place

in the ballroom. Dj, live entertainment and an amazing staff, there was no way to contain our excitement and smiles. Completely transported into another world, it was time to enjoy the outdoor hydro spa tub to relax those muscles! To end this all around VIP experience, we got to soak in the sun by the pool while watching an exclusive performance by rapper and DJ Lil Jon! Cabanas, mermaids, delicious food and drinks and lots of bubbles–this was how to party! All pools on the property have bars you can swim up to as you enjoy the warm water and beautiful view of the beach. Oh, did I forget to mention all the rooms have overlook the ocean? Yes. You heard me. By the end of the day we had just enough energy for a delicious meal at LOS GALLOS TERRACE where we got to meet the chef and hear about the different dishes being served. Bellies full, bodies tanned, we hit the bowling alley and played a friendly game before having to say our goodbyes… This four day trip was filled with excitement, delicious food, beautiful views, amazing service and more.”Some other amenities the hotel offers include the The Sound of Your Stay® music program: you can have your own turntable or choose to rock out with a Fender guitar right in your room! For the parents to have some “me time,” kids can be safely entertained at the Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, or they can head on over to the hotel’s Rock Spa®, which features Hard Rock’s signature Rhythm & Motion
