Letter from the Editor November is the month to give back and stay thank you. It is also the heart of social season worldwide. In this issue, we wanted to share a few organizations we feel strongly about, who have enlightened us with their causes and the issues affecting the world socially and economically. No matter what industry, if you ever get to a position where you can make a difference and give someone a chance, please do so. It is always better to give than receive. As a prominent figure in the fashion industry, I knew there was something I could do and had been anxious to do for years. Human trafficking is the second and one of the biggest and fastest-growing organized crimes in the world. A cause near and dear to me, I knew something had to be done. So, I launched my very own nonprofit, The ‘Fabio’ Foundation: fashion fights human trafficking and slavery. Learn more about our cause and about our friends at the Style Saves Foundation inside. I say our cause because this issue affects everyone globally. However, do not fret. We have packed this issue with sexy, talented and overall powerhouses like Jane the Virgin’s Justin Baldoni as he covers this month’s Fashion issue and sits down with Michelle Ganney, our contributing editor, to discuss fatherhood, his philanthropic causes and goals. No matter what page you turn to, we hit you with amazing actors and causes we think you should know about, so enjoy and join the fight. It does not have to be only for the ones we are supporting , but what matters is that you get out there and help make this world a better place. Warm regards, FABIO FERNANDEZ, Fashion News Director INSTAGRAM: @mr.fabiofernandez TWITTER: @1fabiofernandez

First Drive: Bentley Continental GT family
The cream gets creamier AUTHOR: ZIGA COLJA, SAGA Institute PHOTO: SAGA Institute, Bentley
IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE WRITTEN INVITATION, WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THE GT IS ALREADY HALF A DECADE IN THE MAKING? ITS SECOND GENERATION HAS LEAPED FORWARD FROM THE ORIGINAL SUCCESS STORY AND YET UNDERWENT A SUBLIME REFRESHMENT COURSE.
Apparently to prescribe one is to do so before anyone notices it is needed. Spanish sun in the renowned La Rioja wine region proved to be an excellent ground to contemplate about design whilst encouraging a liquescent delicate taste to remind us of living well. The Bentley Continental GT is refreshed with a complement of new exterior design features, aimed at sharpening the on-road presence of the iconic Grand Tourer. A new front bumper combines with a smaller radiator shell FASHION issue - BELLOmag.com
and new, more pronounced fenders to lend a more assertive and confident stance to the front of the car. The fenders now feature a new vent, complete with a graceful metallic “B” adornment, which serve to emphasize and enhance the renowned Bentley “power line” that flows rearwards from the front arches. New bright chrome fender badges for the V8 S and W12 models now match those applied to the GT Speed. At the rear of the car, the boot lid is now more sculpted, with a pronounced
aerodynamic profile to the trailing edge. The rear bumper has been reshaped and widened for an added sense of power and now features full-width brightware. The V8 S and GT Speed also gain a new rear diffuser design to further differentiate the performancefocused members of the Continental family. The revisions to the exterior aesthetic are completed with the addition of new wheels to the range of 20-inch and 21-inch designs available. The 6

standard wheel for the GT V8 and GT W12 becomes a new 20-inch, six-trispoke wheel, in painted finish for the V8 and bright machined for the W12. The Mulliner Driving Specification wheel changes to a new 21-inch seven-twinspoke design, finished in Graphite grey with bright machined spokes. Finally, a new 21-inch five-spoke directional sports wheel joins the existing 21” design available for the V8 S and GT Speed. The visual upgrades continue inside the luxury cabin of the Continental range. A new and contemporary straight-fluting pattern adorns the four generous seats, while the Mulliner Driving Specification (standard on GT Speed) gains a tightened, “small-diamond” quilting pattern reminiscent of a tailored British jacket. Driver controls are all-new, with an optional, more ergonomic and sports-orientated steering wheel and larger gear-shift paddles incorporating tactile knurled metal embellishers.
seats, capable of accommodating and charging electronic devices including iPads. In addition to the changes to the standard specification, a new range of optional interior features has been developed. GT W12 and GT Speed models can now be specified with new, softer semianiline hide for the seat cushions and backrests, representing the highest quality of leather available in the automotive market and giving an even more comfortable, luxurious and natural feel. Two new leather colors join the Continental range for 2015 Shortbread and Camel. Furthermore, the headlining of GT V8 S, GT W12 and Speed coupe models is now
Onboard WiFi, providing connectivity to all handheld devices in the car, is also now available across the Continental family. Under the revised skin of the Continental GT W12 lie three changes to the mighty 6.0-liter twin turbo W12 powertrain. Firstly, the engine receives a power and torque increase which are now valued at 582 brake horsepower and 531 poundfeet. All that to maintain the model’s reputation of effortless performance. The power upgrade is accompanied by improvements to fuel economy of up to 5 percent. The GT W12 now includes a variable displacement system and the new evolution is able to run at part throttle on six of its 12 cylinders to reduce fuel consumption without sacrificing refinement and offers lower CO2 emissions of 329 grams per kilometer and combined fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon.
Brightware elements across the console are updated, the driver’s instrument panel receives new dials and graphics for a refreshed, more contemporary look and the beauty of the new interior is now illuminated by LEDs. The center console also features a new black gear lever surround, unifying the style of all driver controls. For V8 and V8 S coupe models, a new hidden storage compartment is fitted between the rear 7

SHOES
Slipper into something more comfortable BY: STEVEN CARVER
NOT ALL FOOTWEAR IS MEANT TO BE SEXY. UNLIKE A PAIR OF HEELS THAT CAN CHANGE A BODY’S NATURAL, LINEAR POSTURE BY CURVING THE SPINE AND THEREBY PUSHING THE BREASTS FORWARD AND THE GLUTES BACK (NOT TO MENTION ADD A FEW INCHES IN HEIGHT WHILE FLEXING ONE’S CALVES); FLATS DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE. If a stiletto is the equivalent of a silky negligee, the flat is a white t-shirtand-chino combo. There’s nothing wrong with slipping into something more comfortable; not everyone wants to show that much toe – cleavage all the time. With a design existing since the 1800s, the most famous low-heeled slip-on is a Weejun from G.H. Bass, the name being an appropriation of Norwegian, one of the progenitors of the style of shoe used by the country’s fisherman. Its original shape was similar to a lace-up Oxford with a rounded toe and wide vamp. Easy to take on or off, they made getting dressed easier. Another name for a slip-on or slipper was loafer, the term coined to define a person who lazied away their time. They were popular amongst Americans
who associated them with the preppy, collegiate look of the 1950s. Aside from a tweaking from Italian fashion house Gucci, who refined them using colored leathers and higher quality materials, loafers remain a symbol of comfort. Style and sexiness comes second. That is, unless they are French. Galet designs loafers for men with a playful twist. Handmade in an atelier outside Paris, France, using traditional and time-honored techniques, the shoes feature flexible rubber soles and are available in a variety of materials like canvas, leather, suede and pony hair. The range of styles – Classic (a staple of the brand), English (in houndstooth,

Each year, Galet offers a limited run of custom-made styles crafted to suit the needs and wants of its owners in a number of alternate materials. The French have a Gallic “savoir faire” in how they style things. Try a pair of loafers with a t-shirt and jeans or a suit – the effect remains the same. Their insouciance is hard to encapsulate but it’s easier with Galet. Maybe slip-ons can be sexy.

JEWELRY
A wearable ménagerie BY: STEVEN CARVER
IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK TO MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING, BUT IT TAKES TALENT TO TURN IT INTO A PIECE OF ART. IF THAT ART IS WEARABLE, THEN IT BECOMES A GIFT – IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. IT IS NOT EASY TO TRANSLATE A POTENTIALLY AUSTERE CONCEPT INTO AN ACTUAL OBJECT, BUT MARC ALARY HAS MANAGED TO ACHIEVE IT BEAUTIFULLY. The French-born, New York-based jewelry designer’s studies in graphic design and illustration work caught the eye of famous fashion design houses like Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, collaborating with them on various projects, including designing jewelry for Marc Jacobs’ main collection. Launching his own fine jewelry line in 2009, he made it a full-time commitment two years later, after leaving Marc Jacobs, in order to concentrate on building his namesake business. Brand recognition began to rise amongst consumers and industry peers. His pieces were available at iconic retailers such as Dover Street Market in London and New York and Colette in Paris. In 2013, Alary’s work was acknowledged by the Council of Fashion Designers of American (CFDA)/Vogue Fashion Fund (as a runner-up), followed by a nomination from the CFDA Fashion Awards Guild of a Swarovski Award for Accessories in 2014.
Monkey pendants group panthers, zebras), Reptilia (crocodiles, snakes), Caravan (conjoined elephants), Antholops (gazelle horns), Cycle (circular links of animals), and Bugs (dragonflies), there’s nothing feral to be seen. The whimsical collections balance elements of preciousness and playfulness while remaining truly wearable. For his latest line, titled Ménagerie, Alary draws his inspiration from the trinkets and antiques of his childhood. Animals like elephants, flamingos and monkeys are brought to life with yellow, white and rose gold and decorated
But it is not the awards that inspire Alary. Often looking to nature, his pieces do not reflect the obvious – flowers, petals – but rather exotic animals. With names likes Savannah (elephants,

Putting a spin on a traditional piece of jewelry gives it a newfound relevance, making it distinctive. And while art might be a subjective medium, wearing beautiful jewelry is not. November 2015 - BELLO

TECH
Fashion Tech I’M FABIO, YOUR FASHION NEWS DIRECTOR. I’M HONORED TO BE A PART OF THIS REMARKABLE PUBLICATION, WHICH I’M ALSO BLESSED TO CALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. WORKING IN FASHION HAS ALWAYS BEEN COMPETITIVE. YOU’RE CONSTANTLY ON THE GO, IN NEED TO BE INFORMED AND A LOT OF THE TIMES YOU HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH INDUSTRY NEWS AND STANDARDS.
BY FABIO FERNANDEZ and done. Quantum sent over a nice Logitech keyboard, sold separately. Once you have it set up, the hardware configuring takes about seven minutes but overall it took me 17 minutes as I am not a tech-savy gentleman. I am more about the clothes and runways. What I loved was that I no longer had to carry a clunky laptop. The Qautum Access stick fits perfectly in your pocket, but I do not recommend that. You can throw it inside your purse, murse or backpack and you’re ready to go. The only downer is that you need a wireless keyboard which you will need to carry but those come in various sizes.
That includes having the latest gadget. I amm not a millionaire. Trust me, it is not by choice or for lack of trying and I will try to get there until the day I die. However, it is very rarely that I talk about a product as I am not one to brag or endorse but when I come across something that works for me, I am happy to recommend as that I report on fashion and news in general.
So when Quantum said they created a product that does not overheat and it came in a form of a USB stick, I was skeptical but jumped onboard. Upon its arrival, the hardware set up was a breeze. A stick behind the TV
You’re literally carrying a fully functioning PC on a stick. It is Windows 8.1 and you can do exactly what you do on your regular PC. It was easy to carry, assemble and use. I would go as far as even saying that this could definitely be the PC equivalent to Apple TV. Learn more at http://quantumaccess.net/.
In my type of work, I am always running all over the city often going from one state to another. Attached to my hip is my laptop. I would not be able to get any work done without it. It is an essential tool as an editor. I will not go into details of what programs we operate as every publication is different. However, when the team over at Quantum Access reached out with their Quantum Access PC stick, I was skeptical. I am sure every laptop user, whether MAC or PC, is always worried about overheating. 17

FOOD
Nice Guy Restaurant BY: DIO ANHONY
Where: LA’s trendy, ultra-popular restaurant The Nice Guy Who: The NICE GUY offers an unparalleled dining experience with gourmet food and a custom mixology menu in an intimate atmosphere. The 70’s chic décor is meant to evoke the decadent era of mafia bars and restaurants, where the owners and their friends can enjoy an evening together. The fare can be described as “sim-ple with enough healthy and comfort food for everyone to choose
from.” The Italian-inspired menu is prepared by Chef John-Carlos Kuramoto, who extraordinarily reintroduces classic dishes with an edge. Master mixologist Brian Stewart and h.wood Group’s Food & Beverages Specialist, Adam Koral, methodically created a distinctive list of cocktails, uniquely naming each drink after close friends and family of the owners. It is a cozy reservations-only destination for guests. Comfy booths line the exterior wall commanding intimacy between guests, while the larger booths
flanking the room stimulate the party atmosphere. The Nice Guy includes a small sultry live performance area with a traditional Chef’s table where guests can eat, drink, and enjoy music throughout the evening. WHAT’S NEW: This West Hollywood Hot-spot just got hotter, with an array of delicious cocktails & dishes added to their already glorious menu just in time for Fall. Grab a light jacket and head out to The Nice Guy and enjoy any of these to die for additions.

LOOKING BACK ON BARCELONA AS A CITY, PRE 2009, IT SEEMS TO EVOKE A DIFFERENT AURA, A DIFFERENT WAY OF EXPRESSION, AND A DIFFERENT TYPE OF ATTRACTION. SURE, TOURISTS STILL FLEW INTO BCN IN THEIR DROVES, SEARCHING FOR THAT CULTURAL MECCA, AND THAT BIG CITY VIBE CROSSED WITH TRUE SPANISH SUN, SAND, AND SANGRIA. AND THEY WOULDN’T BE DISAPPOINTED. We had the luxury of the W Barcelona experience during an autumn getaway this October, and what an experience it was.
Eclipse Bar
From the moment we stepped foot on Spanish soil, we were whisked away to the sea blue serenity of the W Barcelona, where we lay with welcome cocktails poolside, the smell of the crisp mid-morning sea air, and the high mid-morning sun just creeping around the elegant, unique structure of the hotel, with impeccable timing. Within 45 minutes of landing, we were taking Room with a view
in the smells of the delicious cuisines and poolside atmosphere of the already famous Wet Deck, which overlooks the pristine Barcelona coastline. There we were, immersed in the heavenly Spanish culture already. What a delight it was. We made our way up to the 16th floor, with levels of anticipation rising as the floor ticker rose on the elevator. The elevator door opens. WOW. What can only be described as an aerial view of the Barcelona Harbor and Barrio Gotico neighborhood awaits you. A view that demands hours of your attention. Typical Barcelona side streets
and the quintessential W Barcelona panoramic perspective blows you away. I would testify that there isn’t a better view from inside your own bed, in the world. Lets now talk about the dining experiences that are available at the W Barcelona, and what a treat they really are. We were able to enjoy a special dinner experience in the Wave Sundeck
restaurant, where service and food quality is, as you’d imagine, the finest in the world. Sea bass that falls apart in your mouth, and chocolate delicacies that really would light up the eyes of even the most healthy, green leaf eating, human being. Putting the hotel itself aside for one second, the location at the end of a beachhead, really allows for the most
beautiful sun-setting walks along the beach, and unparalleled access to the cultural goldmines of the sea-view tapas bars, and old town of Barrio Gotico, where you can unwind amongst the small cobbled streets and quaint side-street shops that provide you enough excuses to take away a gem of Spanish style, all in an afternoon’s stroll. And why not end your day, like we did, with an extra special glass of Barcelona’s finest wine, overlooking the Barcelona coastline atop the W Hotel, in the Eclipse Bar. Manus X Machina: The 2016 Met Gala & Exhibition Sponsored By Apple Will Explore Dichotomy Of Fashion & Technology BY BRENT LAMBERT
ON MAY 2, 2016 THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL MET GALA, ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS OF THE YEAR AND THE MAIN SOURCE OF ANNUAL FUNDING FOR THE COSTUME INSTITUTE’S EXHIBITIONS, PUBLICATIONS, ACQUISITIONS AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS. AS PER TRADITION WITH ALL MET GALAS, THE LUXURIOUS SOIRÉE IS A THEMATIC COMPANION PIECE TO THE MUSEUM’S SPRING COSTUME EXHIBITION WHICH OPENS A FEW DAYS AFTERWARDS. On October 14 it was announced that this year’s exhibition will be sponsored by Apple and is entitled Manus X Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology. The exhibition will be on view from May 5 to August 14, 2016 in the Museum’s Robert Lehman Wing and Anna Wintour Costume Center. Manus X Machina promises to explore the various ways in which fashion has been impacted by new technology and how designers are breaking new ground as they reconcile the man-made and the machine-made in their haute couture and ready-to-wear creations. Thomas P. Campbell is Director and CEO of The Met, when explaining more about the concept, said: “Fashion and technology are inextricably connected, more so now than ever before. It is therefore timely to examine the roles that the handmade and the machine-made have played in the creative process. Often presented as oppositional, this exhibition proposes a new view in which the hand and the machine are mutual and equal protagonists.” The 2016 Met Gala’s co-chairs will be Idris Elba, Apple’s Chief Design Officer

Jonathan Ive, Taylor Swift and Anna Wintour. Nicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld and Miuccia Prada will serve as Honorary Chairs. In discussing the theme of this year’s gala and exhibit, Ive said: “Both the automated and handcrafted process require similar amounts of thoughtfulness and expertise. In their overview of the exhibition, The Met writes: “Manus X Machina will feature more than 100 examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-towear, dating from an 1880s Worth gown to a 2015 Chanel suit. The exhibition will reflect on the founding of the haute couture in the 19th century, when the sewing machine was invented, and the emergence of a distinction between the hand (manus) and the machine (machina)

FATHER. PHILANTHROPIST. ACHIEVER. Justin’s vision is world embracing. WORDS BY MICHELLE GANNEY PHOTOS BY TJ MANOU
I SPOKE TO JUSTIN AS HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO DINNER TO CELEBRATE HIS FATHER’S BIRTHDAY. THE KNOWLEDGE OF THIS SIMPLE FACT WARMED ME TO HIM STRAIGHT AWAY. “TODAY IS BEAUTIFUL. TODAY IS MY DAD’S BIRTHDAY. I AM GOING TO TAKE HIM TO A RESTAURANT THAT I GREW UP GOING TO, HIS FAVORITE ITALIAN PLACE IN SANTA MONICA”.
You might recognise Justin Baldoni from his unparalleled role in Jane the Virgin alongside the beautiful Gina Rodriguez. He plays the captivating yet mischievous “Rafael Solano” on The CW’s hilarious hit show. However, in spite of Justin’s supreme acting talent, he shines far more for his philanthropic take on life and his applause-worthy humanitarian devotion. Acting is a passion of Justin’s, yet he was clear in his vision to use his gifts to help humanity. “I started a production company called Wayfarer Entertainment about three years ago. 39
I actually left acting to do it, partly because I felt I was not being of service to the world as an actor”. Justin is a devotee of the Bahai’a faith, which ignited a sense of motivation in him. This led to the beginning of a documentary series called My Last Days. “I started this documentary series, that is based on a quote in the Bahai’a writing which says: ‘I have made death a messenger of joy to thee. Wherefore dost thou grieve?’ It is this idea that death is inevitable, death is around us. Nothing is permanent, everything is temporary, yet we live November 2015 - BELLO

We think that we are going to be here forever and the fact is, we are not. I was looking around the world and I was thinking, ‘How am I going to make a difference?’” With this philosophical quandary present, Justin was encouraged by this quote as a means to move people. “I thought I could take that quote and figure how to make it inspiring. To remind people that we have to act now. We have to be of service. We have to do more. We have to take care of each other. We have to love each other more and we have to say the things that we want to say. It ended up becoming the most watched documentary series online ever, which lead to the formation of my company.” Although the world can see the enchanting chemistry between Justin and Gina Rodriguez’s character on Jane The Virgin, there is more to their character friendship than meets the eye. “Gina and I have a lot in common. It is really interesting that we were paired together in this crazy show. When we met, there was this instant chemistry but it was not a sexual chemistry. It was 43
not necessarily about the acting, but rather about what we can do outside of it. I think we both really believed that. It is really nice to have someone on the show who genuinely wants to do good with the platform she has.” With his production company sailing and his longstanding character “Rafael” firmly entrenched in the show for many episodes to come, life is looking pretty good for Justin at the moment. Of course, that is completely and utterly down to the two most important females in his life. “Fatherhood is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me besides my wife [Emily]. It has been such an incredible journey. Maiya [his daughter] comes everywhere with me, that is part of the deal. I am running a couple of companies and I am also acting so my wife and daughter come to as many things as they possibly can. I am working for them and I am also working for the good of the world but for me, family is what keeps me going. Quality time with them is more important than anything.” Justin is a rare, genuine and selfless soul. His values encapsulate everything people should aspire to be and aim to achieve. He is a true inspiration. November 2015 - BELLO

In my years of working in the fashion industry, speaking at educational institutions and advocating in support of organizations like Lambda Legal, Style Saves and Jeffrey Fashion Cares, I wanted to do more. Many people do not have the option or luxury to live in our country and the ones who do, make it here illegally being forced to go through dangerous paths with or without their knowledge and or consent. I wanted to put a spotlight on this pandemicsize issue. Human trafficking is a $31 billion-yearly industry and the second fastest-growing organized crime in the world. By launching The Fabio Foundation, we will be integrating with fashion brands and events to promote and raise funds that will allow us to tackle this worldly disease by building awareness, providing counseling and housing to victims and their families. Everyone can participate by donating, sharing and liking our Facebook page. Join our fight against human trafficking. #HumanTrafficking #HumanRights #IAMHUMAN
rights. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims. Human Trafficking is defined by Trafficking in Persons as “the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs. Elements of human trafficking On the basis of the definition given in the Trafficking in Persons protocol, it is evident that trafficking in persons has three constituent elements;
For the purpose of exploitation, this includes exploiting the prostitution of others, sexual exploitation, forced labor, slavery or similar practices and the removal of organs. To ascertain whether a particular circumstance constitutes trafficking in persons, consider the definition of trafficking in the Trafficking in Persons protocol and the constituent elements of the offense, as defined by relevant domestic legislation. As a young entrepreneur, her focus was on youth, knowing that by instilling confidence from an early age, the opportunities for success would be endless. quick questions with
Justin Baldoni BY MICHELLE GANNEY
YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE Justin Baldoni: “Where there is love, nothing is too much trouble and there is always time.” LIFE ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO YOUR DAUGHTER, MAIYA JB: I would say put God first, before anything and everything and through that you will find the answer. YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF EMILY Emily and I sort of had two different meetings. The first was when we met at this party for a movie that she did, which was actually a re-make of a movie that I did. I remember looking at her, her having a boyfriend at the time, and I remember thinking she was beautiful, FASHION issue - BELLOmag.com
of course, but I had a girlfriend at the time. So there was nothing there. Then, five years later, we reconnected when we were both single, and I remember looking at her, and as beautiful as she is, I remember just thinking, “Wow. That’s the kind of woman I want to be with”. It was one of the first times, as a 27-year-old guy, that I looked at a woman and [I] just felt there was so much more that I wanted to figure out. I was so attracted to her soul, it did not matter how hot she was. That was kind of my first impression of her. MOST MEMORABLE BIRTHDAY I would have to say last year because we did the first ever Homeless Carnival. I asked all my friends, family and people to come to this Carnival, which we
threw in one of the worst places in the country. For me, I feel like birthdays should be about celebrating others, like our parents, our friends and people less fortunate. I just thought that if every single human being on the planet gave to someone else on their birthday, then we would have a very different world. Last year, we had 300 volunteers, and it was not about feeding them or clothing them, it was about connecting. People were dancing. They were singing, they were playing, there was a rock climbing wall, people were connecting, hugging, eating and for me that’s what it is all about. In the middle of my birthday, I was looking around and I saw all these amazing souls and I could not tell who was helping who. That was the most memorable birthday I’ve ever had and I want to do it again this year. 50
