Letter from the Editor Every few years, a network puts out a show that encompasses a world that we, the public, have yet to see taken on. Sometimes it is a scandalous and forbidden affair with the president of the United States with someone that is not the First Lady. Last year, it was the arrival of Lee Daniel’s musical drama Empire. It took television lovers by storm, presenting audiences worldwide with the ups and downs of the music industry, and the good, the bad and the ugly of the family responsible for the biggest moments in music of their time. It is a show in which its cast members are predominately black. It gives a stage for topics untouched in relation to the African American culture. I chose to celebrate this genius and soon-to-be unforgettable series in this November issue, featuring one of its many up-and-comers, Serayah, as our covergirl of the month. If you have yet to discover Empire, do so now. It is revolutionary television in the making. Photo by Maarten de Boer

INTRO It is no surprise to anyone that I have a true obsession with television and streaming services now. First, because I love being entertained at home, but more than that, because the quality of TV and streaming production is now parallel, if not better, to cinema. For one, it is definitely more creative. But this week also marks the release of the last chapter of The Hunger Games, and I am telling you this one is worth spending two hours and 16 minutes in a dark movie theater. This issue is full of exciting content referring to my current obsessions like Empire, The Walking Dead or Hers Reborn. The uber talented SERAYAH is gracing our cover wearing Moschino, a perfect mix of pop art and fashion. Make sure also to read our exclusive interviews with EMMA FUHRMANN and KIKI SUZEKANE. The holiday craziness has just about started with the Christmas tree ligthing last night at The Grove, so have fun and stay safe. As I write this, I am also watching CNN with the horrible news from Paris and would like to remind all of you to enjoy life and to never be afraid. There will always be those that despise the freedom and happines of others, but we can not and will not let them win. We also send our thoughts and love to those who are directly impacted by those events. Peace and love, Alek Editor in Chief Aleksandar Tomovic

G/FORE fills the hole in golfing apparel
WRITTEN BY JON AND MARK NORRIS
YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com

OVER THE PAST DECADE, GOLF AS A GAME, AND AS A SPORT, HAS BEEN CHANGING. IT’S GRADUALLY ATTRACTING A YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHIC, BRINGING WITH IT A COOLNESS AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION THAT HAS BEEN MISSING FOR SOME TIME. At least in the clubs, schools, and universities across the UK – they are crying out for inspiration that helps transition the game into the future. G/FORE as a brand are helping that transition, and along the way, adding colour and style on the fairways. With the likes of golfer Tom Watson, and singer Adam Levine joining the party since it’s launch in 2011, its a proven success already.
An avid player himself, founder Mossimo Giannulli has built the brand up over the past four years, starting with gloves that zest with colour and exuberance, to just as tasteful shoes, and upscale shirts and sweaters – all with a touch of class to them. Giannulli wanted to create something that oozed style and artistry, but kept to the tradition of the game – which is vital to the brand’s prosperous future and aspirations, I think.
It was a revelation: G/FORE have finally given golfers the chance to express themselves on the course, where conservatism had so often prevailed. Despite the historic traditions of the golf industry, G/FORE is a brand with courage and flair, unafraid to take a sexy approach to having fun on the golf course.
PRODUCTS FORE YOU The men’s classic style polo shirt, offering a modern fit, hybrid-blend fabrics which provide the ultimate in both performance and luxury.
The Men’s Gallivanter golf shoe combines style with optimal comfort and a real athletic fit. Custom designed by G/FORE’s in-house team of footwear experts with the help of biomechanists, The Gallivanter boasts a lightweight, shock-absorbing sole coupled with a bespoke cleat design for optimal oncourse traction. This shoe also sports a washable and anti-microbial dual density contoured foot bed for enhanced comfort.

Introducing
Kiki Sukezane INTERVIEW BY DIO ANTHONY PHOTOGRAPHY BY MAARTEN DE BOER
JAPANESE ACTRESS KIKI SUKEZANE’S FACE SHOULD BE IMPRINTED IN YOUR FACE. FOR ONE, SHE IS STUNNING, AND SECOND, SHE PLAYS QUITE POSSIBLY THE COOLEST EVO IN NBC’S REBOOT HEROES REBORN. 26-YEAR-OLD SUKEZANE PLAYS “MIKO OTOMO,” A GIRL WHO TURNS INTO A “KATANA GIRL,” SWORD IN TOW. HERE’S FIVE QUESTIONS WITH KIKI SUKEZANE.

DISCOUNT UNIVERSE SHOE LAURENCE DACADE
BELLO Mag: You’ve stated in past interviews that you would like to involve yourself in humanitarian work. Any specific cause? Kiki Sukezane: I would like to do whatever I can. Maybe even to help a place like Sudan where there is essentially no community, no water, nothing. There are so many places like that in our world and people who need the help to eat and live. Lately I have been thinking about specifics of how I can help as an actress. But I feel like I have to be a bit better known first before I can really use my voice. BM: You recently visited Paris. Having been there for the first time, what was your time there like? KS: I went with my sister, and you can imagine how excited I was since it was my first time in Europe. It was amazing. I love all the buildings in Paris. I had to work for two days, but I also sneaked off and did the whole tourist thing with 25
my sister. Everything was beautiful. From Paris we traveled to Amsterdam, which was equally amazing. BM: I think it’s pretty cool that you’re character turns into a katana girl in a video game. Did you play video games as a child? KS: I definitely used to play Pokemon and other Japanese video games that were popular when I was younger, but that was years ago. My brother was actually pretty excited about me playing a video game girl. BM: How strange is it being back in Japan with Heroes Reborn promotional material all over the streets? KS: Yeah, every time I saw the posters on the buildings in these big cities in Japan, it was both weird and exciting, more exciting of course. I will be returning to Japan to spread the word on Heroes. I am trying to be really famous in Japan, so I have to spread the word (laughs). November 2015 - BELLO

YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER EMMA FUHRMANN AS “ESPN” IN ADAM SANDLER’S ON-SCREEN REUNION WITH DREW BARRYMORE, THE FAMILY COMEDY BLENDED. OR YOU MAY NOT. AT 14 YEARS OLD, YOUNG EMMA COULD NOT HAVE HER EYES MORE SET ON THE PRIZE. SHE IS ONE TO WATCH AND YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST. MEET ONE OF HOLLYWOOD’S NEWEST FACES.
BELLO Mag: You are involved with a few humanitarian causes. Which is your favorite and why do you feel it is important to help and give back? Emma Fuhrmann: The fact that this is the first question I get to answer for this interview makes me so happy! This is my heart, this is my everything and I am so happy I get to have this voice that helps bring awareness because we can all make a difference no matter how big or small. When I am on location for a film, I always find an organization in the community to help. It is my way of giving back to the community I am in for that time period. It is a way to remember that the world is bigger than just the film and that moment in time that you are filming. I am also a champion for the Alzheimer’s Association because I lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s. She never really knew me and this affected me greatly. I knew I wanted to help find a cure so that others wouldn’t have to know how this feels. I am sure that they will find a cure for it. Over the last few years I have become very involved in animal welfare and have joined forces with The Humane Society and The Gentle Barn to be a voice for animals that have no voice. I have seen the great things these organizations are doing and I have toured their sanctuaries in both Texas and Los Angeles and it has forever changed me for the better. One of my closest friends started a foundation when she was just 11 years old (she is now 17) that grants wishes to children of fallen or wounded soldiers called Brat Pack 11 and we have helped grant several wishes together and I hope there are many more to come because it is so rewarding to give to others in this way! 37
I recently attended the Environmental Media Awards and while I may just be a teenager I know I can still do things that impact the planet like using recyclable bags, glass bottles instead of plastic, eat organically, turn off lights, use less water, drive a hybrid car, among other actions. There is just so much work to be done and so little time to do it! BM: Tell me about your character in Lost In the Sun. What sticks out to you when you think back on working on this particular project? EF: “Lost in the Sun” is this gritty little indie that I did with Josh Duhamel, Josh Wiggins and Lynn Collins. We shot it in Austin, Texas roughly a year ago and it was the writer and director Trey Nelson’s first film. The story mainly revolves around the two Josh Duhamel and Josh Wiggins, but when they meet up with my character “Rose” and my mom (Lynn Collins), things really get interesting. Rose is 13 and already knows her mom is not the ideal “mom of the year” type mom and neither is Josh Duhamel’s character. There is this undeniable bond between “Rose” and Josh Wiggin’s character, “Louis,” and for a moment they realize the world in their imagination is a lot better than the world they are actually living in. What sticks out to be the most while working on this film are a couple of things. For starters, it was Texas and it was freezing cold the entire time. Not just a little cold but freezing cold! Secondly, working with Josh Duhamel who was the most genuine guy ever. He was just so kind and incredibly nice and easy to work with. Bonus, I also got to have lunch with Fergie and eightmonth-old Axl at this little BBQ place in Lockhart, Texas. I mean, talk about
memories! How many people can say they shared a turkey leg with Fergie? Plus, Axl and my mom share the same birthday, so it’s totally meant to be. The movie is out on VOD, iTunes and Amazon, so check it out. BM: November is our LA Issue, having spent some time here in Los Angeles, what are your favorite things to do when in town? EF: I absolutely love November in LA! Even though there is not a full-on season change, there is this crispness in the air in the mornings that I love to wake up to. One of my favorite things to do in LA is to go on either a morning hike or a sunset hike on one of the many trails in the area. My favorite trail is Fryman Canyon though because it has the most beautiful sunset views. Then of course, after hiking, you work up an appetite and want to relax and eat so I love hitting one of my favorite cafes in the Studio City area: Aroma Café, Vivien’s Millenium Café or Sweet Butter. I always eat well when I’m in LA. November is the time to start getting into the holiday spirit so I like going to The Grove to see their holiday decorations. The Grove is just a fun place to hang out, shop, walk around and the atmosphere reminds you the holidays are just around the corner! LA in November is actually the best month of the year in my opinion. BM: Years from now, what type of roles would you like to be playing? EF: My passion is working on films because I like that there is a beginning and end to a film. I’d love to be a part of a book series adaptation like The Hunger Games or Harry Potter. To be able to bring an iconic book character November 2015 - BELLO
SHIRT & SHORTS KENAR JACKET AQUA EARRINGS VANESSA MOONEY
to life year after year would just be a dream. Another thing I have always talked about is playing a role in a period piece, something that is set in the 1800s or even further back than that. I’m not going to lie, I would love wearing those old fashioned dresses, too! I like heavy, deep roles full of emotion as you can probably tell from most of my films. I like roles that make people feel something when they watch that is very important to me. I also would not mind having a role in a John Green type movie either. Really any young adult, coming of age type movie would be amazing! BM: You are at the start of your career at the moment. 10 years from now, from an artists’ point of view, what would you like to be able to say, when looking back ten years into the past? EF: I have already been acting for more than half my life now so it is hard to think I am only at the beginning but it is so true. I am moving from the young kid roles to the heavier teenage, young adult roles and I love it. To jump ahead 10 years from now, I’ll be in my mid-20s and to look back on my career I’d like to be able to say I made all the right choices. There’s always two paths, the easy, wide open path or the tougher, more narrow path and I hope I take the more narrow path, the path that stretches me as an actress, the path that challenges me, the path that makes a difference somehow. I do not want to lose myself while on this journey so I hope I am still the same through it all only wiser and ready for whatever the world throws at me next! I can’t wait for what the future holds. Cookie’s
Secret Weapon The Girl behind Empire’s Tiana
WORDS & ART DIRECTION BY DIO ANTHONY PHOTOGRAPHY BY MAARTEN DE BOER
YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com
56
20-YEAR-OLD SERAYAH MCNEILL IS ONE OF THE HANDFUL OF SEXY & TALENTED ARTISTS TO HIT FOX’S WILDLY SUCCESSFUL SERIES EMPIRE. SERAYAH PLAYS THE SOMETIMES SASSY, BUT UNDOUBTEDLY BEAUTIFUL TIANA. EX-FLING OF HAKEEM, AND A RISING STARLET COMING OUT OF LYON DYNASTY RECORDS. THIS SEASON, TIANA’S NOT GETTING INTO HALF AS MUCH TROUBLE AS SHE DID DURING THE MUSICAL DRAMA’S EXPLOSIVE FIRST SEASON. WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE SEASON STILL AHEAD, THERE’S NO TELLING WHAT DIRECTION HER CHARACTER COULD GO.
The LA native and princess of Empire herself has her own reasons for looking ahead in the season. “Oh, man” she says, before pausing to think. “I have so many epic performances that are soon to come. Not to mention, the possibilities with my character. I think the writers are still developing her and what she’s all about. Which just makes it even more exciting for me to discover. I’m just as psyched to see what craziness Tiana’s going to get into. Or what head turner she’s going to throw at the Empire, next.” Going by her character’s history, we should be ready for anything. As for her time on the show, she’s psyched about that, too. “This season and last have been amazing for me,” she says. “A dream come true, really. It’s so glamorous. I’m ecstatic everyday going to work with such rad people.” I couldn’t imagine a better dream job for a triple threat like herself at the moment, considering the storm of fans and love the series has garnered since it’s premiere, reportedly viewed by over 9 million Americans; quickly making it the biggest premiere to occur on the network in years. But there’s more—-the sets. That’s right, The Empire Building, Lyon Dynasty’s headquarters and the several other interior designer wet-dreams shown on the show. 57
“Believe it or not, our sets are one of my favorite pieces of this puzzle,” she admits. “They’re so stunning, and they really help us as artists and actors to get into that creative space, where we become those people.”
Britney Spears, and the late Aaliyah. “I love performing,” she says. “And I feel like those three particular people have given me a lot of inspiration in that arena.”
Growing up in LA has definitely given me, what I want to say is a humbleness that I carry with me Serayah also confessed in the question of who her favorite Lyon brother was. The most taboo of topics, yet the most talked about among fans on both Twitter & Instagram. Her personal favorite? None other than the soul-singing Jamal, played by Jussie Smollett. “If I had to pick, it would probably be him because I think he’s embellished a lot of things on the show. And even being a part of the series, I still get really excited to see him perform.” Smollet’s sound on the show borders a Neyo, Babyface feel that rivals his brother’s exceptional rhyming skills. While Serayah’s Tiana’s resembles Rihanna’s catchy lyrics and melodies. In real life, Serayah’s sound is a bit different. Citing her influences and tone as a fusion between Toni Braxton,
Her current gig on Empire films out of the windy city of Chicago, doubling for the streets of New York City. But splitting her time between her home state of California and Chi-town hasn’t been the hassle it may seem like on paper. Not for Serayah anyway. Her so-cal upbringing has made sure of that. “Having to move a lot, whether it’s for work or whatever it is, it’s helped me see a lot. Growing up in LA has definitely given me, what I want to say is a humbleness that I carry with me,” she says. When you grow up there, you appreciate where you’re from, rather than seeing it as this untouchable Hollywood idea. I still carry that Hometown Glory with me, though. I love Southern California and how laid back it is, the energy. I also love being by the beach, so being a drive away from one is never something to complain about.” November 2015 - BELLO
