OUTR (Office of Urban Transformations Research) is a research laboratory in the School of Architecture + Design at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, that explores design as an agent of understanding and responding to the challenges of a rapidly changing complex world through live projects in collaboration with a range of industry and government stakeholders. Our work is the exploration of design as an agent for imagining better ways of living in the world that understands and responds to the challenges of a rapidly changing complex urban fabric. The approach we have developed is for the generation of sustainable urban futures for living through a practice of design that is informed from the ‘ground-up’ through a careful and rigorous exploration of economic, environmental, and social complex systems that constitute the dynamic medium that is the city.
