NOTES FROM EDITOR-AT-LARGE

Embrace the Science and Art of LUXURY

I

am very excited to announce the arrival of OVATION LUXURY – an OVATION INTERNATIONAL inset magazine brand powered by the creative imagination of the Chairman of OVATION Media Group and Publisher of OVATION INTERNATIONAL, Chief Dele Momodu. I’ve always known Chief’s penchant for creative, stunning, daring and big ideas. He is one man whose ability to bring out the best in people and circumstances constantly defies the odds.

As our readers would come to encounter, OVATION LUXURY is not just another magazine feature. We have carefully crafted the magazine to focus on the luxury lifestyle of the rich and famous; what they eat, what they wear, what they drive, where they live, where they hangout and even more. Indeed, it is the science and art of luxury living.

So when he asked me to set things in motion and bring this brand new baby of OVATION INTERNATIONAL into life, I knew Chief was at it again. And with all enthusiasm, I assembled my team to commence work immediately on this new project. This maiden edition features on its cover, the ebullient billionaire property czar – Sir Olu Okeowo. His fairytale Lagos mansion known as the Palacio De Okeowo - is not just incredibly stunning but equally, imaginatively provocative. Our professional crew of photo journalists Adekoya Adegbite and Abraham Falodun have done an amazing world class shoot that would only make our readers keep asking for more. Our Creative Director Emmanuel Otache has once again brought the Midas Touch into the overall layout and finishing of this excellent work. And we are not done yet. As you flip over the pages of OVATION LUXURY, prepare to discover the future of luxury in the latest Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Cabriolet. Welcome to this brilliant cocktail of luxury perfected by the beauty and art of photography and storytelling.

Palacio De Okeowo

LARGER

THAN LIFE It is one of those fairytale homes captured only by the imagination of a Hollywood film director or better still, a 21st century reinvention of the glory and splendor of the Château de Versailles in France. Standing and sprawling over a choice 5 acres of prime land reportedly worth a whopping $3 million, Palacio De Okeowo is a three-floor Victorian edifice overlooking the sea at one part. It is said to be the biggest property of its kind in Parkview, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, spanning a period of 11 months from its inception to completion. Built and owned by property czar, Sir Olu Okeowo, the magnificent edifice is conservatively valued at $12 million, excluding the inside fittings, furniture and of course, the luxury cars which include at least five Rolls-Royces and an array of other eye-popping vehicles! Sand-filling and claiming a good 5,000 square metres of the sea as extra land to situate the castle’s swimming pool, Palacio De Okeowo’s architectural construct reveals a masterpiece only a mind like Okeowo’s could possibly conceive. Palacio De Okeowo is one edifice that can proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with any from any part of the globe, parading all the luxuries that money can afford; its own helipad, a jetty and a chapel. Enjoy the ride as we take you on this pictorial mansion tour built by Nigeria’s undisputed King of Luxury! WORDS BY - Ohimai Godwin Amaize

THE FUTURE OF LUXURY…

Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Cabriolet

65

66

WELCOME the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Cabriolet Mercedes-Benz is daring the incredible with the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. The Vision 6 Cabriolet is engineered and designed as an electric car with output of 750 hp and a range of more than 200 miles. The swooping concept car, unveiled in August 2017 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, rejects all notions of practicality. The wonder-on-wheels measures nearly 18.7 feet long and 6.9 feet wide, yet offers just two seats. The wheels stand 24 inches tall. Although the 6 Cabriolet runs on battery power (its solitary nod to the future) and therefore lacks an engine, the hood makes up about half the car’s length. The vestigial radiator grille was inspired by a pinstripe suit—something else Silicon Valley is doing its best to kill. The rear end brings to mind a yacht, a theme apparently chosen to keep anyone from thinking the car draws ideas from something useful, like a container ship. The Vision 6 Cabriolet is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, Mercedes says. A quick-charge feature allows for enough power to charge the car in five minutes to boost driving range by around 60 miles.
