THE INTRODUCTION
T
he beautiful bride, Omolola Aribike, floated into church looking resplendent like a Princess, armin-arm with her proud father, Mr. Bisi Onasanya, GMD/CEO of First Bank Nigeria Plc. As she sashayed to the front row, all she had eyes for on this her happiest day yet was to meet her beau, the handsome Olusola Mustapha, a Banker and son of Alhaji Azeez Oladunjoye and Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, the Commissioner of Education, Lagos State. Smiling Shyly, Olusola, who had waited for many minutes, was beaming with joy as Omolola, who drew gasps of admiration from all present, took her position by his side. ‘Lola and ‘Sola who were both swept up by a tidal wave of affection throughout the spirit-filled occasion were eventually declared husband and wife by Pastor Idowu Iluyomade of the City Of David

Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God to the delight of family and friends. The solemnization of their wedding was the highest point of several ceremonies that had been planned to formally transform their marital status from single to married.
THE INTRODUCTION Since both families are Yoruba, it was no surprise that the traditional aspects of the wedding proceedings will evolve according to the ancient Marriage Customs of the Yoruba race. Therefore, it was fitting for events to kick off with the Introduction. Since the members of the couple's nuclear families must have met and become acquainted with each other, the Introduction is the ceremony where the extended families meet, interact and also carry
out some traditional rites. The ceremony was held in the home of the Onasanyas and the Matriarch of the home, the ever graceful mother of the bride, Mrs. Helen Onasanya was fully in charge of arrangements, making sure that everything was in place for the wonderful occasion. Mrs. Onasanya sizzled in her gold outfit and was well complemented by her husband who wore a gold cap with a flowing white Agbada. For the Oladunjoyes, they preferred a combination of brown and blue. It must be said that blue was very prominent that day because the lovely couple also stepped out in brilliant blue! They really shone like a million stars. It was a short, private and intimate ceremony that was nonetheless lively. Guests, who were the families' nearest and dearest, were truly entertained throughout the occasion.

uiconque connaît très bien Bisi Onasanya, le Directeur Général du Groupe et Président Directeur General de l’un des joyaux du monde des affaires au Nigeria, à savoir First Bank Nigeria (FBN), sait que c’est un homme qui ne parle pas beaucoup. Le beau banquier est toujours calme et serein, et arbore toujours un sourire qui peut faire fondre le plus coriace des cœurs. Il est l'une des rares personnes qui possèdent un comportement où toute la sérénité dans l'univers semble résider – il est génial et constant, même dans les circonstances les plus difficiles. Toutefois, récemment, cet homme serein n’a pas succombé au fait de donner son premier enfant et sa fille unique, Omolola Aribike Onasanya, en mariage à son seul et unique ‘amour’, Olusola Oladunjoye, qui est également banquier mais avec la Standard Chartered Bank. Et au cas où vous ne le savez pas, Sola, est également le fils du Commissaire chargé de l'Education de l'Etat de Lagos, Mme Olayinka Oladunjoye. Les noces qui ont marqué la fin de la vie de célibat des deux amoureux étaient un hommage au style, à la classe et à l’aristocratie d'autant plus que les magnats du monde des affaires du Nigeria, les personnalités royales, les politiciens de premier ordre, sont venus pour se réjouir avec le couple et leurs parents.
Le mariage traditionnel était riche en couleur et il s’est déroulé à l’Ark Events Centre de Lekki à Lagos, ce qui a donné le ton pour le mariage chrétien le week-end suivant. Les deux familles étant Yoruba, elles ont observé les exigences traditionnelles de mariage à l’Ark Events Centre avec le légendaire musicien King Sunny Ade qui a fait de cet événement un moment inoubliable. Le week-end suivant était un jour où régnaient le bonheur, la gratitude et l’amour en l’église City of David Parish de ‘’The Redeemed Christian Church of God’’ de Lekki à Lagos, église qui a fourni un cadre approprié pour la formalisation de leur union devant Dieu, la famille et les amis. On dit qu’une pomme ne tombe jamais loin de l'arbre, et l'on pourrait affirmer que la belle mariée, Lola, était ravissante avec le sourire rayonnant qui illuminait son visage. Son voile n’a même pas pu cacher la joie sur son visage qui portait la touche de maquillage de BM-Pro. Pendant que les invités s’installaient pour la formalisation du merveilleux amour du couple, Lola est apparue à la porte de l’église, bras dessus bras dessous avec son père, resplendissante dans une robe de mariée en dentelle qui lui moulait le corps. Elle a accentué sa tenue avec de merveilleuses boucles d'oreilles en or. A l'autel se trouvait son prince charmant, qui ne pouvait cacher sa 23

Elégant dans son costume parfaitement rehaussé avec une boutonnière et une pochette jaune et rose, Sola a capturé le visage de plus d’une jeune fille - un véritable prince charmant taillé sur mesure. Dans son exhortation, le pasteur Idowu Iluyomade, principal pasteur de l’église City of David Parish, a exhorté le marié à aimer sa femme comme le Christ aime l'Eglise et a exhorté la mariée à être humble et soumise à son mari. Le pasteur Iluyomade a exhorté les deux tourtereaux à poursuivre un véritable amour dans leur mariage et à se comprendre, tout en leur conseillant de faire du Christ, le roi dans leur vie et dans leur foyer. Peu après l’exhortation, les amoureux ont échangé leurs vœux de mariage et leur premier baiser officiel, ce qui a été suivi par un chant et l'action de grâces. Les éminentes personnalités qui étaient présentes étaient le Gouverneur de l’Etat d’Ogun, le Sénateur Ibikunle Amosun, le magnat de la banque, Jim Ovia, le jeune et beau dignitaire royal de Lagos, Oba Saheed

Elegushi, entre autres. C’est le même esprit de gaieté et de camaraderie à l'église et lors de la cérémonie traditionnelle une semaine plus tôt qui enveloppait le luxueux Eko Hôtel & Suites Convention Centre, où une réception grandiose a suivi afin de continuer la célébration avec de la musique, la boisson et la nourriture. Dès l'entrée principale de la salle, dans le couloir et directement dans la salle de réception - un sentier magnifique et digne d’un évènement royal a été aménagé. C’était une affaire strictement par invitation et c’est pourquoi les invités, lorsqu’ils arrivaient, avaient les invitations que leur ont envoyées les Onasanyas et les Oladunjoyes, et ils les ont présentées au personnel de sécurité avant d'être autorisés à pénétrer dans la salle. Une fois admis, ils ont emprunté un couloir faiblement éclairé, bordé somptueusement de fleurs, de bougies, des images du couple et d’autres ornements. La partie de la salle où le couple devait s’asseoir
était superbement aménagée. L’Oba de Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, le Gouverneur Seriake Dickson, de l'État de Bayelsa, l’ancien Gouverneur de l'Etat de Cross River, Donald Duke, l’ancien premier Président de la Banque, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, les milliardaires Alhaji Aliko Dangote et Femi Otedola, Chief Molade Okoya Thomas, Oba Saheed Elegushi, Otunba Oba Otudeko, Hajia Bola Shagaya, étaient parmi les hautes personnalités présentes. Avec la comédienne, Chi Girl, qui supervisait, la soirée a débuté avec une prière d'ouverture dite par Otunba Oba Otudeko. Les invités se sont régalés d’amuse-gueules qui ont été suivis par un buffet gastronomique et des vins exquis. Les nouveaux mariés firent leur entrée avec les demoiselles d'honneur et le reste du cortège. Chief Joseph Sanusi, ancien gouverneur de la Banque Centrale du Nigeria (CBN), qui a présidé à l'occasion, s’est levé pour s’adresser au couple et aux invités en disant «je dois particulièrement féliciter les deux

À propos de la famille du marié, le banquier a plaisanté en disant, "Ils sont partis chercher parmi les belles dames et ils sont partis prendre la fille d’un de mes amis ; je les félicite pour leur dernière conquête." Pour les parents de la mariée, il a dit, "Vous avez gagné un fils, un érudit avec un bon caractère ; il a reçu une bonne éducation, comme vous pouvez bien le remarquer". Pour le couple, le président a dit, "Sola et Lola, regardez autour de vous et vous verrez que vous êtes grandement bénis. Dieu vous a bénis avec de grands parents. J’ai suivi le pasteur officiant et je ne suis pas sûr d’avoir quoi que ce soit à ajouter. Ma prière est que Dieu bénisse votre union’’. C’est un long voyage et je peux vous le dire avec
mes 50 années d'expérience conjugale. Sola, les femmes ont une bouche plus tranchante que les hommes, donc je te conseille d’être patiente. Le pasteur a dit que vous devez faire de Dieu le pilier de votre maison. Dès demain, commencez à faire vos prières du matin ensemble lorsque vous vous lèverez pour consacrer le jour à Dieu. Tous les deux vous avez des parents formidables donc vous n’avez aucun autre choix que de réussir votre mariage’’ a conclu le président. La coupure du gâteau a suivi, coordonnée par la Première Dame de l'Etat d'Ogun, Mme Olufunsho Amosun. Après cela, le couple a ajouté de l'émotion à la cérémonie en se donnant réciproquement un morceau du gâteau avec beaucoup d'amour - Lola s’est mise sur son genou à un moment donné pour nourrir respectueusement son mari en accord avec les préceptes de leur culture yoruba. La danse entre le père et sa fille a suivi à la demande de Lola. Le père, tel un roi, a fièrement dansé avec sa fille qui se mouvait telle une princesse et tous les deux se balançaient majestueusement au rythme de la chanson "Unbreakable", du groupe musical irlandais,
Westlife. Le duo a été rejoint plus tard par la mère de la mariée, Mme Helen Onasanya ainsi que le marié et ses parents - à la demande de la mariée. Ils ont dansé au rythme de la chanson ‘’At Last’’ chantée à l'origine par Etta James, mais rendue populaire par la superstar, Beyonce. La réception s’est transformée en la maison du divertissement, car différentes stars de la musique se sont succédées pour chanter les plus beaux tubes de la chanson nigériane, en particulier les tubes qui sont très populaires sur le continent. La sensationnelle chanteuse nigériane, Tiwa Savage a ouvert la voie, sortant de nulle part à la stupéfaction des invités - parce que personne n’avait annoncé sa présence au préalable. Elle a chanté ‘’Colours of Love" la joie du nouveau couple. Lorsque que les invités se régalaient de la prestation musicale de Tiwa, Babatunde Fashola le Gouverneur de l'Etat de Lagos, a également fait une apparition inattendue, accueilli par le papa de la mariée et la Première Dame de l’Etat d'Ogun et la foule ravie a applaudi son Gouverneur. Lola, vous êtes tellement belle», après quoi elle enchaina avec la chanson de Stevie Wonder " Isn't she lovely" avant de continuer avec une autre chanson.
Les nouveaux mariés ainsi que leurs familles ont dansé au rythme de "Sweet Mother" avant que le talentueux Disk Jockey de Cool FM 96.6, Dj Xclusive, ne livre certaines compilations musicales. Les mamans du couple et leurs amies ont eu leur moment sur la piste et elles ont dansé joyeusement au rythme des chansons fournies par Shuga Band.
Et juste au moment où certains invités croyaient que tout était terminé, Olamide, le chanteur de "Turn up", est apparu, ce qui a suscité une frénésie parmi ses nombreux fans dans le public. Les Jeunes et les vieux, ont dansé et se sont réjouis aux airs mélodieux du talentueux rappeur. Shuga Band a terminé la soirée en toute beauté ce qui offrit un dénouement spectaculaire et merveilleux à la soirée.

T
his was when the real celebration of love began. It was the first public presentation of Omolola and Olusola-and it was colourful, classy and lively. The venue, The Ark Event Centre was turned into an upscale and wonderfully inviting sea of blue-which was obviously the colour of the day. The decor, centre-pieces, floral arrangement, chandeliers and the lovely peacocks that dotted every corner made the venue top notch. The venue was in tandem with the calibre of first-rate guests that had been invited to share the occasion with the couple and their families. First to arrive were Mr. and Mrs. Onasanya. They spent time greeting friends and family members who were already waiting, a testimony to their great humility. They were soon joined by the Oladunjoyes-and the Compere soon took charge. For such occasions like this, the bride is usually the main focus. She was the cynosure of all eyes and for some reason maybe because she knew that Olusola was already hers, she was very relaxed as she was preparing for this important aspect of the wedding programme. The bride's make-up was handled by a team from BMpro, the company which has Banke Meshida-Lawal at the helm of affiars, her hair too was in a top-notch shape. It was handled by Abbey of Abbey Salon. By the time she was ready in her cream outfit-she sparkled! As it is the norm, there was a marriage proposal letter from the groom's family that was read for all, then the bride's family responded by reading its own marriage acceptance letter. It was quite an emotional moment for the Onasanyas as it dawned on them that Omolola, their lovely baby, was ready to take a major step in her life, and begin the journey of starting her own family. They prayed for many minutes during this segment of the ceremony for their dear daughter, her husband and the new family they were about to build together as one body and one flesh. Of course it was the groom that made his way 52
THE ENGAGEMENT to the arena first, he was led in by his parents and a retinue of family members who were singing and dancing. As soon as he got to the front of the bride's family, the ever-smiling groom and his friends as a sign respect, all prostrated to greet their in-laws. He was then welcomed with a warm embrace by Mr. Bisi Onasanya and wife, Mrs. Helen Onasanya: It was obvious that in their hearts, they were saying: this is a son in-law in whom we are well-pleased. They then showered him with prayers. His parents also took turns to pray for him as he embarks on this journey to marital bliss. All eyes were now trained on the entrance as everyone awaited the arrival of the beautiful bride. After what seemed like an eternity, Omolola whose face was covered with a veil danced into the venue to cheers and applause of family and friends. She was an epitome of joy, smiling gleefully as she made way to the centre of the venue were all the traditional ceremonies were unfolding. A session of prayers soon followed by both parents and close family members including Chief Joseph Sanusi, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Oba Otudeko. The couple were soon invited to the centre of the arena where, the bride was asked to choose one special gift among the lot presented to her by her in-laws. As one with a thoroughbred Christian upbringing, Omolola did not bat an eye as she chose the Bible-and because of her wise choice, the guests cheered! The couple then cut their cake and later left the arena for a change of outfit as the evergreen King of World Beats, King Sunny Ade took centre stage to entertain guests which included Oba of Lagos, HRM, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, UBA Chairman, Mr. Tony Elumelu, First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola and Deputy Governor of Lagos, H.E Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

he City Of David Parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lekki, Lagos, provided a more than suitable setting for the formalisation of the union before God, family and friends. An apple never falls far from the tree they say, and one could aver that the gorgeous bride, ‘Lola, is certainly a chip off the old block-if not purely in looks, then unquestionably in a fascinating signature smile that graces her pretty face almost endlessly. Not even her mantella veil could conceal that singular evidence of her unspoken delight accentuated perfectly by the magic of make-up experts, BMPro. As guests settled for the culmination of the wonderful love drama, ‘Lola appeared at the doorway to the sanctuary, arm-in-arm with her doting dad, glowing rather resplendently in a detailed lace and satin body-hugging mermaid gown while hoisting a lovely bouquet in one hand. She accessorised her bridal dress beautifully with dangling earrings, decorated with precious stones and a neatly placed fascinator-all of that splendidness shielded delicately behind her mantella veil. At the altar stood her Knight-in-shiningarmour, 'Sola, who was himself overwhelmed with delight. His smiles were endless and his sense of anticipation, palpable. Looking dashing in cut-to-fit suit complemented perfectly with a pink and yellow boutonierre and a pocket square‘Sola cut the figure of many a damsel's dream groom-a true Prince Charming by every measure. In his subsequent ministration, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, Presiding Pastor of the City of David Parish, charged the groom to love his wife even as Christ loved the church and for the bride to be humble and submissive to her husband. Pastor Iluyomade urged both parties to carry on in marriage with true love and understanding, charging them to make Christ, the king of
their lives and in their home. Soon after the brief but rich spiritual charge, the sweethearts were exchanging marital vows and their first official kiss as man and wife was followed by exuberant singing and thanksgiving. Prominent faces that were present at the church to witness the special occasion included Ogun State Governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun; his wife, Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun, banking magnate, Mr. Jim Ovia; young and handsome Lagos royal, Oba Saheed Elegushi as well as motivational speaker and entrepreneur, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika amongst others.
THE RECEPTION
It was the same spirit of merriment and camaraderie witnessed in church and a week earlier at the engagement ceremony that enveloped the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites' Convention Centre where a lush reception followed to round off proceedings with music, wining, dining and uninhibited fun. Right from the main entrance of the venue, through the hallway and straight into the event hall- a trail of class and royalty was laid out. It was a strictly-by-invitation affair which was why guests, as they arrived, took their invites out of the stationery suites sent to them by the Onasanya and Oladunjoye families and presented them to the smartly-dressed security personnel from popular Ksquared Security Limited before being allowed access into the venue. Once cleared, they took an exquisite walk through a dimly lit hallway, lined sumptuously with flower boards, candles, and exciting images of the couple and other ornaments. 135

The decor at the venue made for a grand visual treat. The Greekthemed dais prepared for the couple, the pristine gold-coded tables capes, the fresh garlands, the sixtier cake housed regally in a columned space and the punctilious sitting arrangement, all reflected the craftsmanship and high sense of organisation and co-ordination of Juyin Demuren, the artistic wedding planner, whom everyone agreed delivered a fantastic job. Every fairytale party deserves a classy audience and this party was no exception. The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu; Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; Former Cross River State Governor, Mr. Donald Duke; Former First Bank Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab; billionaires, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola; Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, Oba Saheed Elegushi, Otunba Oba Otudeko, Hajia Bola Shagaya were amongst the upscale celebrities that attended this wonderful celebration of love. With comedienne, Chi Girl, directing affairs, the ball was set rolling with an opening prayer by Dr. Oba Otudeko. All the 136
while, the happy guests were having their taste buds titillated by some fantastic finger foods which they soon followed up with a gourmet buffet and regal wines from the finest cellars. Leading the way for the delighted newlyweds, the bridal train stepped into the venue after which the couple danced in and really started to get jiggy with it on the centre stage, rollicking heartily to some exhilarating Nigerian jams. The bridal train then added glow to the mini dancing competition before accompanying the lovebirds to their special sitting area. Then, Chief Joseph Sanusi, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, who chaired the occasion, rose to address the guests and the couple. "I must particularly congratulate both families," he started. "Lola and ‘Sola make a great couple. I thank the parents for how they have brought them up. About the groom's family, the veteran banker quipped, "They have got eyes for beautiful ladies and they have been taking from my friends and I congratulate them on their latest conquest." To the bride's parents he said, "You are gaining a son - great in learning and character. His family brought him up well and you can see the quality of education." To the couple, the Chairman stated "Sola and Lola, look around you and see that you are greatly blessed. God has given you great parents. I looked at the Pastor in church and I don't think I can say more than he said in giving you all the critical success factors. I pray that 156
God will bless your union." "It's a long journey and I can tell you that from my 50 years of marital experience. 'Sola, women have sharper mouths than men, so I urge you to be patient. The Pastor said you should make God the pillar of your home. From tomorrow, start to have your morning prayers together when you wake up and commit the day to God. Both of you are from very excellent parentage and have no choice than to build a successful home," the chairman concluded. The cutting of the couple's beautiful multi-layer cake, crafted by Licious Desserts followed and it was
coordinated by Ogun State First Lady, Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun. After this, the couple added expression to their emotion as they fed each other with a lot of love - Lola going on her knees at some point to respectfully feed her beau in consonance with the dictates of their Yoruba culture. Next was the father/daughter dance which came on Lola's request. The bride's dad looked the part of a proud father-king and she, the crown princess, as father and daughter swayed in royal majesty to the rhythm of Irish boy band, Westlife's "Unbreakable." The love they share and their close bond was unmistakable.

The duo were later joined by the bride's mum, Mrs. Helen Onasanya as well as the groom and his parents all on the bride's request. They all swung rhythmically to "At last" originally produced by Etta James but made popular by pop superstar, Beyonce. In a magical turn of events, the reception, to borrow the tagline of Silverbird Television, transformed into the home of entertainment, as different music stars rocked took turns to take thrill guests with pulsating performances of popular Nigerian music-especially those tracks that have been delighting souls and spinning heads across the continent. Sensational Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage led the way, suddenly emerging like a bolt out of the blue to the amazement of the guests-because no prior announcement was made of her presence-and titilating the excited couple with a love song, "Colours of Love." Remarkably, the surprises were not over yet. While the guests were having their musical appetites whetted by 158

Tiwa, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, also made an unexpected appearance, ushered in by the bride's dad and the Ogun State First Lady, as the delighted crowd cheered their Action Governor. Tiwa who had only just been married herself was undoubtedly feeling the obvious flow of affection between the newlyweds as well as the groom's fascination with his bride which prompted her to tell Lola, "You're so so beautiful," after which she regaled the smiling beauty of a bride with Stevie Wonder's "Isn't she lovely" before signing off with one more track. The couple and their families then shook their bodies to the tunes of Prince Nico Mbarga's "Sweet Mother" before 96.9 Cool FM's talented disc jockey, Dj Xclusive, delivered some magical musical mixes on the wheels of steel. The couple's mums and their friends soon got groovy during an exciting "mummies' time" made jolly by the amazing Shuga Band. And just when some guests were beginning to
think about calling it a day, because they felt all was done and dusted, amazing musical talent, "Turn up" crooner, Olamide, turns up-to a frenetic outburst by his numerous fans in the audience. Young and old, grooved without any inhibitions to the talented rapper's melodious tunes. The exciting Shuga Band had the final say though, making sure of a wonderful climax to what was certainly a spectacular evening. Shortly after, OVATION had a short interview with the lovely bride and she revealed that the day was a soar-away success, way beyond her expectations. She thanked God Almighty for ensuring that the ceremonies went on smoothly, and she heaped praise on both their parents for their love and immense support. Of course, we asked her to describe her husband in a few words and she said " He is very kind. He is Godfearing. He is very intelligent. And he is a family man who is extremely loving. He is a man with a good heart".
