BATTLING THE BUZZ: A MOSQUITO CONTROL UPDATE As summer comes to a close and we can more comfortably embrace the joys of outdoor living, there’s one persistent foe we all face—mosquitoes! These tiny, buzzing nuisances can put a damper on our outdoor 2

| CLUB MANAGEMENT | activities and, more importantly, pose a health risk. In this edition of our newsletter, we’re diving into the world of mosquito control to keep you informed and prepared for a mosquito-free good time!

Use Mosquito Repellent: When enjoying outdoor activities, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, use EPAapproved mosquito repellents to protect yourself and your loved ones.

WHY MOSQUITO CONTROL MATTERS

Maintain Screens and Doors: Ensure that window screens are in good condition and doors have tight-fitting screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

Mosquitoes are more than just an annoyance; they can transmit serious diseases such as West Nile virus and Zika virus. While the risk of contracting these diseases varies by location, it’s always wise to be proactive when it comes to mosquito control.

OUR MOSQUITO CONTROL MEASURES

Landscaping: Consider planting mosquito-repelling plants like lavender, citronella, or marigolds in your garden to naturally deter mosquitoes.

Rest assured that your community is dedicated to your safety and comfort. Here are some of the mosquito control measures we have in place:

Mosquito control is an ongoing effort, and we’ll keep you updated on our initiatives.

Routine Inspections: Our dedicated team regularly inspects the community to identify breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Standing water, such as in clogged gutters, garbage receptacles, or poorly drained landscape beds, can provide the perfect breeding environment for these pesky insects. Larviciding: To target mosquito larvae before they become biting adults, we employ larvicides. These safe and environmentally-friendly treatments are applied to stagnant water sources to prevent the growth of mosquito populations.

Additionally, you can reach out to Osceola County Mosquito Control if you have any specific concerns or questions about mosquito control in your area. Osceola County offers mosquito inspections and treatment at no additional cost – your tax dollars at work! If you experience an abundance of mosquitos, please call Osceola County Mosquito Control at 407-742-0505 and leave a message with your name and address. They will place a trap to monitor the level of mosquito activity, and then treat accordingly. While we would love to do so, we cannot call on your behalf, they want to hear directly from the residents!

Adult Mosquito Control: When necessary, we also use adult mosquito control measures. These might include the application of insecticides or the use of traps to reduce mosquito numbers in specific areas.

We hope this information equips you with the knowledge and tools needed to enjoy a mosquito-free season. Let’s work together to keep our community a safe and pleasant place to live!

YOUR ROLE IN MOSQUITO CONTROL

Wishing you a wonderful and mosquito-free season ahead!

While your community is committed to keeping mosquito populations in check, we encourage all residents to take an active role in mosquito control:

R. PAUL GIRARD CASTLE GROUP

Remove Standing Water: Be vigilant about emptying containers that collect water, like flower pots, buckets, or birdbaths. Even a small amount of standing water can become a mosquito breeding ground.

Putting Family First During the Holidays: A Time for Togetherness Written by S C OT T BROW N, LCA M , C O M M U NI T Y M A NAGE R

T

he Holiday Season is a magical time of year when we come together to celebrate, reflect, and create lasting memories. Amidst the hustle and bustle of shopping, cooking, and decorating, it’s easy to lose sight of the true essence of the holidays. However, in the midst of all the preparations, one thing remains paramount: putting family first. Prioritizing family during the holidays can enhance the spirit of togetherness and create a warm, joyous atmosphere. In this article, we’ll explore the importance of family during the Holiday Season and offer some tips on how to make your celebrations more family centered.

Being fully present in the moment can strengthen family bonds and create cherished memories.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

COMMUNICATE OPENLY

In today’s fast-paced world, many people find themselves overcommitted during the Holiday Season, attending numerous parties, events, and gatherings. While it’s tempting to try and do it all, putting family first means recognizing that quality time spent with loved ones is far more meaningful than a packed calendar. Choose your commitments wisely and set aside days or evenings solely for your family. This will allow for more relaxed, meaningful interactions.

Communication is key to putting family first during the holidays. Have open and honest conversations with your loved ones about your expectations, desires, and needs for the season. Listen to their thoughts and feelings and work together to create a holiday plan that accommodates everyone’s wishes. This way, you can ensure that the holidays are a time of joy and togetherness rather than stress and tension.

CREATE TRADITIONS

MAKE ROOM FOR SELF-CARE

Family traditions are an essential part of the Holiday Season. Whether it’s baking cookies, decorating the Christmas tree, or lighting the Hanukkah candles, these customs foster a sense of belonging and create memories that last a lifetime. Establishing and maintaining these traditions can help keep the focus on family and what truly matters during the holidays.

Amidst all the holiday preparations, it’s crucial to remember that taking care of yourself is essential for your well-being and your ability to be present for your family. Don’t neglect self-care during this busy season. Make time for relaxation, rest, and personal activities that rejuvenate you. A healthy, happy you is better equipped to put family first and create a harmonious holiday atmosphere.

VOLUNTEER TOGETHER

Remember, the holidays are a precious time to strengthen family bonds, create memories, and reflect on the importance of togetherness. By putting family first, you can ensure that the holidays are a source of joy, love, and cherished moments. Embrace family traditions, prioritize quality time, and practice open communication to create a season that truly brings your loved ones closer together. In the end, it’s the moments spent with family that make the holidays truly magical.

KEEP GIFT-GIVING SIMPLE While exchanging gifts is a cherished part of many holiday traditions, it’s important not to let the focus on material possessions overshadow the true spirit of the season. Instead of extravagant gifts, consider giving the gift of your time and presence. Create homemade gifts, write heartfelt letters, or organize a family secret Santa to emphasize the joy of giving and receiving without the pressure of excess.

One of the most heartwarming ways to put family first during the holidays is to volunteer as a family. By giving back to your community, you teach your children the value of compassion, empathy, and the importance of helping those in need. Volunteering together can create a sense of unity, making your family feel more connected and grateful for what you have.

UNPLUG AND BE PRESENT In today’s digital age, it’s easy to become distracted by smartphones, tablets, and other devices. During the holidays, make an effort to unplug and be present with your family. Put away your gadgets and engage in meaningful conversations, play board games, or take a leisurely walk to enjoy the festive decorations in your neighborhood. B EL L A L AG O B E AC ON

Embracing Gratitude & Celebrating the Season Written by DO U G G I L BE RT, LCA M , ASSI STA NT C O M M U NI T Y M A NAGE R

D

uring the month of November, we are reminded to give thanks for the many blessings, including family and friends in our lives, and for the fruitful year. The Bellalago HOA team would like to thank those who have dedicated their time, effort, and resources in creating a community full of life, beauty, and continued excellence. From the staff that serves the community, homeowners that take pride in their properties, to the volunteers that help assist with many community functions, we THANK YOU!!

3. HOLIDAY SAFETY With the Holiday Season comes an increase in package deliveries and shopping trips. Ensure the safety of your home by being vigilant about securing your packages and not leaving them on your doorstep for too long. Additionally, be cautious when shopping online, making sure to buy from reputable sources and protecting your personal information.

4. WILDLIFE AWARENESS As the year winds down and the Holiday Season approaches, it’s the perfect time to embrace the delightful Floridian weather and make the most of the last two months of the year. Here are some valuable community tips for November and December in our beautiful neighborhood.

Florida’s mild winters bring out a variety of wildlife. Make sure to secure your garbage cans to discourage raccoons and other critters from making a mess. Enjoy these beautiful creatures from a safe distance and remember not to feed wild animals.

5. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS 1. LAWN CARE & LANDSCAPING

Florida’s late fall and early winter are a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you enjoy biking, hiking, or picnicking, our local parks and nature reserves offer fantastic opportunities to soak in the pleasant weather. Consider planning a community nature walk or group picnic to celebrate the season.

While the rest of the country is preparing for winter, we are still enjoying the vibrant colors of our gardens. In November and December, continue your regular lawn care routine, which includes mowing, weeding, and watering. Be mindful of seasonal changes and adjust your landscaping efforts accordingly. This is also an excellent time to plant cold-tolerant annuals and vegetables.

Wishing you all a wonderful and joyous November and December!

2. HOLIDAY DECORATIONS As the Holiday Season approaches, let’s make our community shine with festive spirit. Decorate your homes with twinkling lights, wreaths, and other decorations that celebrate your traditions. Please remember to follow any HOA guidelines for holiday decorations and be respectful of your neighbors in terms of noise and lighting. You may contact the Compliance Team if you have any questions regarding holiday decorations. B EL L A L AG O B E AC ON

FERTILIZERS

Many people believe the myth that spreading moth balls around your house will repel snakes and other animals. Snakes experts say it doesn’t work and can be extremely dangerous as moth balls are toxic to kids, pets, and wildlife. It is illegal to use moth balls outside in Florida and it can result in a significant fine. There are environmentally safe products available for purchase; however, the best defense is to keep your yard mowed and free of weeds. The Environmental Committee will be working on a policy to help enforce this law involving moth balls.

reetings from the newly created Environmental Committee. We are working closely with the Lakes & Ponds Committee and the Landscape Committee to ensure that the Bellalago & Isles of Bellalago community is a beautiful and healthy environment in which to live. In addition, we will help residents live safely and respectfully alongside the wildlife that also call Bellalago home. This article will focus on the chemicals we may be using around our homes and how they impact our environment.

MOTH BALLS

Everyone wants a nice green lawn, and fertilizers help to achieve that goal. Many fertilizers contain nitrogen and phosphorus, but in excess, they can wreak havoc on our lakes and ponds, resulting in algae blooms and poor water quality. Fertilizers can run off into our waterways and potentially cause fish kills. Even if you don’t live directly on the water, run-off goes into the storm drains, which empty into the lakes and ponds. Knowing how much fertilizer to use, and when, will help keep lawns green while also maintaining healthy waterways. Orange County has a website that will help you fertilize responsibly:

In summary, we must all consider what we put into our environment and the potential damage it may cause. Keeping our environment healthy keeps our community beautiful, creates wonderful areas to recreate, and maintains our property values.

uring the past couple of months, the Maintenance Department has been working hard to improve the look of our Club. Although Bellalago already has these beautiful views, why not make it look even better? In September, we completed replacing most of the boards on the boardwalk and painted as well. This project took most of the month to complete, but the outcome is rewarding. We also installed two benches next to our Fishing Club area (pictured here). Residents enjoying a walk can now take a break, sit, read a book or relax while enjoying the beauty of the lake. The parking areas also had a little makeover. We pressure washed the curbs, sidewalks and gave the parking lines a fresh coat of paint. I must admit … everything looks AWESOME! There are more projects coming up and we will be sure to put a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to each one of them. Our goal is to ensure that you feel welcome every time you visit, so come visit us soon to see these updates … Mi casa es su casa!

Holiday Lights

All holiday lights must be completely removed from the exterior of home by January 15, 2024. This also means that any multi-colored landscaping lighting must be turned off and submitted to be reviewed by the ARC Committee. ARC requests can be submitted in person at the Recreation Center or online through our community website. Please be advised that any exterior alteration to your home or lot must be approved by the ARC Committee before alterations are made.

oliday lights have long been a cherished tradition, as they transform neighborhoods into wonderlands during this festive season. In our community, this tradition can take on a unique significance, as it symbolizes unity, camaraderie, and a shared sense of holiday spirit. One of the benefits of holiday lights is their ability to foster a sense of community. When residents decorate their homes and yards, it creates an atmosphere of camaraderie and togetherness. Holiday decorations allows residents to express their creativity and individuality. Each home becomes a canvas for personal expression, showing the unique tastes and styles of its occupants. This diversity of displays adds character to the community and creates a diverse tapestry of its residents.

May your holidays be happy days filled with love and laughter, and may each day bring joy your way in the year that follows.
