TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Katelynn Carlson NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
W
e are pleased to introduce your National Director of Marketing and Communications, Katelynn Carlson. Katelynn works hand in hand with Taylor Morrison Marketing to provide communications and marketing support to Esplanade communities nationwide. Out of all of the projects from last year, one of her favorites was the rebranding of the very publication you are enjoying right now, the Esplanade Lifestyle Magazine! She works closely with each local Lifestyle Manager to ensure that their Lifestyle experiences, Members, beloved community pets and the wonderful work they do to produce your Lifestyle programming is shared in a fun and engaging way. You have heard this sentiment throughout last year, but as Esplanade continues to span the nation, Katelynn looks forward to even more ways to spotlight the amazing things our local teams are doing at each community to bring the Esplanade Lifestyle experience to life each day. Katelynn earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of Communications and Marketing from The University of Central Florida. After graduating, she spent her first year as an intern at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida, working as a social media and content coordinator helping to tell the amazing family stories and acts of kindness of local volunteers. In 2012, she was thrilled to join The Walt Disney Company as a Communications and Marketing professional at the Walt Disney World Resort, and spent the next decade growing her skills and knowledge and making magic in a variety of marketing roles. Prior to joining the Evergreen Team, she spent 6 years of her Disney career working to establish, execute and sustain a communications and marketing foundation for the Members of Disney’s one-of-a-kind resort residential community, Golden Oak. She partnered closely with their neighbors, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando to stay engaged with the structure of their exclusive, luxury homeowner experience, The Four Seasons Private Residences. With this knowledge and expertise, the transition to support the growing Esplanade brand seemed like the perfect fit! When she’s not busy finding ways to innovate and create in the world of Esplanade marketing and communications, Katelynn loves to spend time at her home in Orlando, Florida with her two rescue kitties, Lincoln and Harper or out around town with her friends. As a native to Orlando, she is blessed to have sustained friendships as far back as kindergarten, with many of those friends still living in the area. “My family and friends are everything to me,” she shares. “I have a wonderful, close relationship with my parents who actually live 10 minutes up the road, and it’s such a blessing.” She loves to stay active and tries to start each morning with exercise and movement, usually at her F45 gym in Central Florida. She is also passionate about storytelling through images and began her own wedding photography business 6 years ago! When we asked her to explain something she’s most thankful for so far in 2022, she shares: “To be honest, I’m just tremendously thankful to wake up every day and work with a team of people who I truly care about and enjoy being around. Our Esplanade national team, and the team members that make up our local teams, are so passionate, creative, and driven. It’s a privilege to work alongside them. On a personal note, I’d like to get on an international flight again, for leisure travel! I’m not sure where I want to head to next but Switzerland has always been high on the list!”

PET FEATURE
Furry Friends Meet Joy
LOVED BY DOTTIE ACHMOODY Joy is a teacup Yorkshire terrier, more commonly called a “Yorkie.” She is seven years old and weighs 6 1/2 pounds. Dottie became her owner during the Christmas Season of 2014, thus the name Joy. She is a true “bundle of Joy” for Dottie, who moved from Ohio in 2017 and retired to Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and fell in love with the community. There is always something fun and exciting going on at Artisan Lakes. Sometimes Joy misses playing in the snow, but then she is quickly reminded of the cold that goes with it and is happy she lives in the Sunshine State of Florida. Much like her owner, Joy gets into the spirit with each holiday and Christmas is her most loved. As she takes her daily walks through the Esplanade trails, it is common to see her sporting an array of matching holiday outfits and bright colors. Her favorite place to walk is the doggy park, especially during Yappy Hour, where she meets up with her friendly pet pals, enjoys unique doggy treats, holiday scarfs, fresh water and a special whip cream cup! They even have treats for her mommy. On the way home, Joy gets excited when she sees the ducks near the lakes they pass. Occasionally, she will see a bunny and tries to chase it, but mommy won’t let her and she quickly gets back in step with the walk. Mom’s favorite part is the gorgeous sunsets or spotting an occasional rainbow. A real treat for Joy is when she is sun-gazing on the lanai and a Sand Hill Crane walks by and peaks in. Joy is “one in a million,” and the only fur baby in the house, so some people think she is spoiled. She loves to ride in the golf cart, especially during the Esplanade Golf Cart Parades. Another fun time is playing ball with mom, where she can catch a ball in mid-air and goes out for a pass. Then she gets her favorite treat, Bill Jack Chewy Chicken Liver. Joy also loves giving kisses and sitting in the basket on mom’s bike when she goes bike riding. The only thing that trumps her rides is when the grandchildren Emma, Micah, Ben and Graham come to visit. That’s the best time of all! A close second is going for an ice cream cup across the street at American Honey Creamery. It’s very yummy! Once they even topped Joy’s ice cream cup with whip cream. However, Mommy had to interject with “No sprinkles allowed!” The most unusual trait about Joy is that she was born without a voice. But she speaks very clearly through her eyes and body language. She is a cuddler and loves to hug. She certainly loves all the Esplanade Members and their furry friends. Thanks for reading my “bio.” And, maybe next time we’ll see you out and about when walking your fuzzy companion!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Judy Utley & Kathy Regan The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager. Tell us about your family and current or past professions. Chico and Sophie, our chorkies, allow us to live with them, and feed them, and walk them, but they rule the roost. Judy is a retired Plant Manager for an automotive tooling supplier. Kathy is an accountant, and still working (from home) for a software company. Her current plan is to retire next summer, when she turns 70, but that plan seems to change annually, so we’ll see.... Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable? The last trip is always the most exciting. So, we were in Paris in November, and going back in July. There was just so much to see and do (and eat) and not enough time, so it called for a second trip. Then to Seville in October. Next spring/summer we are choosing two more: Ireland, Italy or Greece.
Q A
Why did you choose Palmetto, Florida and specifically, Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? We have lived in the immediate area since 2003, and saw the original Resort Amenity and waterfalls being built. Over the years, when the land sat vacant, we often thought we’d like to move here, but decided to wait for a resale. How long have you lived here? We bought the house 2 1/2 years ago, but only moved in a year later. During that time, we did a lot of “personalizing” of our home. So much for not wanting any new construction! What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Are you in a club? Do you attend any classes/clinics? Hobbies? Some of our friends call us the gym rats, but Judy insists she’s only a gym mouse! It has helped us take off a lot of weight and get in physically better shape. We also enjoy yoga classes with Kimber. We love seeing some of the new programs appearing on the calendar. They don’t let us into the “crafty” activities, since we’re not yet old enough to be trusted with scissors and glue. Kathy’s also on the Finance Committee here (they don’t use scissors and glue - just copy and paste).
8 ESPLANADE LIFESTYLE JUL/AUG 2022
Tell us something that might surprise people. I was going to say “Judy’s age,” but she would kill me! Judy grew up in Orlando and moved to Michigan as an adult. Kathy’s mother grew up in Clewiston and moved to Michigan as an adult. We both have deep roots and much family in Florida. When we moved back here 35 years ago, we opened a lighting showroom in Mount Dora - the antique capital of Florida. Judy was known throughout the State as the go-to person for restoration of antique lighting. Kathy became a certified Lighting Designer, and taught lighting design. A building fire shut the business down, and we chose not to reopen. It wasn’t too long after that we moved to this area. Anything else you’d like to share? Much of our “free time” is spent doing work for Hope Family Services, the domestic violence shelter serving Manatee County. We have laid floors, painted, replaced baseboards, hung cabinets, etc, trying to make the place a little more comfortable for the temporary Member there. (There’s that darn construction again!) We make regular trips to deliver donations of clothing, household items, personal care items, and children’s things. What they can’t use, they sell through their thrift store on 8th Ave in Bradenton. If anyone has things to donate, we’ll take them down!
