Letter From the Lifestyle Team KAITLYN HOFELDT YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER

Happy Holidays Esplanade! As we prepare for the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I encourage our Members, to take time and reflect on this past year. It has been a year of great memories and trying times. Before the excitement of travel, family and friends takes over, pause for a moment of gratitude. In a busy world of work, appointments, and meetings, we can lose sight of what is really important. This community has come together in many ways; whether it be a shoulder to lean on, a neighbor to help with a project or a friend to just grab a drink with. A favorite quote of mine and one to remember as we close out this year... “Sometimes it feels like there are so many things in this world we can’t control ... But it’s important to remember the things that we can, like forgiveness, second chances, fresh starts …” - Josh Duhamel, New Year's Eve November and December are going to keep us busy with fun themed events and outings. Make sure to mark your calendar for our main events – Friendsgiving, our lighting events, our New Year's Eve celebration, and our last Signature Event of 2021 – It’s a Wonderful Lifestyle. Lifestyle. We will have our monthly social events which are a great way to connect with new neighbors or reconnect with friends you haven’t seen in a while. November and December are a great time to try new things and spend time with family and friends. Cheers to an adventurous 2021 and to an exciting 2022.

Furry Friends MEET Tootsie – LOVED BY BOB & SUE COUGHLIN What breed/type is your pet and how old? Tootsie is an 8-year-old beagle who has a very fun July 4th birthday! How do you celebrate Tootsie’s birthday? We celebrate with a very special steak dinner and a yummy dessert treat afterwards. Does he have any siblings? Yes! Tootsie has 2 cat siblings – Kiri & Puzzle What is something funny Tootsie does? She notifies us when it is her mealtime by bringing out a large, orange squeaky gecko toy and will squeak it loudly. If we are too slow to respond, she will throw it at us! What is Tootsie’s favorite treat? Peanut butter, watermelon and popcorn. We need to use sign language if we are talking about these treats. She has caught onto the initials – like PC for popcorn. We can’t fool her anymore!

Richard & Cindy The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. Richard "Mr. D" is from Littleton, NH and Cindy is from Malone, NY. We moved here together from Lake Placid, NY.

Q A

Why did you pick Palmetto / Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and how long have you lived here? Cindy lived in Bradenton in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Her parents retired here in Palmetto, then she moved back to NY. D and Cindy rented in Naples and then Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and really loved the beaches and the neighborhood here. While renting here, we went to the first potluck held at one of the models; it was great fun, we met awesome neighbors and realized we would be happy here and decided to build on Craftsman. What is your favorite thing about the community? Which Lifestyle programs interest you the most. The feel of a small town. The neighbors in the community are so nice and fun to be with and all the amenities and events are just great. There are so many good Lifestyle programs. We enjoy the fitness class Sit and Train, the Signature Events and all the things that our Lifestyle Manager comes up with on the monthly calendar. What can we find you doing during your free time? Cindy loves decorating our golf cart for the parades and seasons, enjoys Recipe Club, water aerobics, ladies luncheons and the planned activities. For the Christmas season, decorating her six trees, mermaid and beach themes and our home. D enjoys playing bocce and bridge. He is the

main chef of the house and does a great job. What do you/ did you do for work? Cindy was a wedding and event planner in the Adirondack area of NY. She still enjoys helping neighbors here with events and parties. Mr. D graduated from Cornell University and ran a private 7,000 acre property club, The Ausable Club in St. Huberts, NY where we met as Cindy was doing weddings at the club. What do you think everyone should do/try at least once in their lives? Mr. D says everyone should ski Tuckermans Ravine Mt. Washington, NH. Cindy said everyone should visit the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of NY, especially during the fall season. Where is the most exciting place you have ever visited? Cindy said going to Oktoberfest in Germany. Mr. D said when he attended the 1980 U.S. vs Russia hockey game in Lake Placid, NY; he still has his ticket stub. Tell us about a fun fact that may surprise your fellow Esplanade neighbors? Cindy attended the Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1965 (she still has her ticket stub) and was the Winter Carnival Princess in 1965 in Malone, NY. Mr. D says in 1949 he was the checker champion at the YMCA in Lewiston, Maine. Their birthdays are a day apart on December 29 and 30.

SIGNATURE EVENT The 1950s came alive right here at Esplanade at Artisan Lakes. We had sightings of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. Our Members dressed to impress, from jewels and gowns to bowties and fedoras, we have never seen our Members looking so elegant and dapper. Members enjoyed classic petite bites and a signature glass of champagne. Our guest trio, The Vocalitas, were seemingly transported from the 1950s to share their voices and style. They sang classic 1950s hits and added their own flare to current songs.

Gardening

IN FLORIDA Florida Wildlife Federation strongly supports home gardening projects that provide food, water, and shelter to native species. All species need certain life-sustaining necessities, such as the monarch butterfly needing the milkweed plant. The Florida Wildlife Federation strives to educate others about how they can individually take part in saving the state and the planet in their own backyard. One of the most important ways we can help native plants and animals is by eliminating invasive species in our gardens and public parks. These unwelcome species are a major problem in Florida; they can rapidly run wild, threatening many natural areas by overgrowing native plants. Some of the removal of invasive plants can require using herbicides or machinery and may best be done by professionals. But we can take steps in our own gardens, yards and neighborhoods to prevent the spread of some of these invaders. On the National Wildlife Federation’s website, you can find links to valuable information for gardening in Florida! Including information on how to garden for conservation and what plant species are preferred for our environment and climate. Visit floridawildlifefederation.org/ gardening-in-florida to learn more!
