What breed/type is your pet and how long has he been part of your family? We got Humphrey, a yellow Labrador Retriever, when he was six months old.
When you travel does he travel with you?
Humphrey is an excellent passenger and he travels with us by car.
Humphrey enjoys Newman’s Own Turkey & Sweet Potato Dog Biscuits. He also especially likes to eat cut-up carrots in the kitchen as he keeps us company during dinner preparation.
His birthday is January 4 and we like to plan a special outing for Humphrey such as a visit to Emerson Point Preserve. The car ride plus the adventure of walking along the trails with new sights and scents is especially enjoyable for him.
Humphrey has the ability to tell time! His dinner time is 4 p.m. and, without fail, within a few minutes he approaches and stares at us intently until we prepare his dinner. Humphrey is now older and can’t run and catch balls in mid-air like he used to, but he still loves to play ball with us. We roll the ball to him, he catches it, and then with his nose he rolls it back to us! This back-and-forth goes on for quite a while until he eventually tires of the game. Humphrey is a very loving and sweet dog. He’s great company, fun-loving, and a wonderful comfort dog.

Thursday, December 1 | 6 p.m. Resort Amenity Center
Join your neighbors and group leader, Joann Von Werne, for an evening of stuffing and wrapping holiday shoeboxes to donate to Meals on Wheels who delivers throughout the holidays. These boxes are often times the only holiday present seniors receive. This year is especially important because of the isolation so many seniors are facing. Please help by putting joy in the holidays for Manatee County seniors! We ask that you try to bring shoeboxes, wrapping paper and/ or some of the items requested below to fill the boxes to help reach our goal of 300 shoeboxes this year!
Examples of items for a shoebox: Chapstick, notepads, pens, paperback word puzzles in large print, shampoo, slipper socks, socks, Kleenex, holiday trinkets (non-breakable), hand lotion, and small selfcare items. Please do NOT include food items, breakables, glass or food products. If you would like to participate in this event, please contact Joann Von Werne at popsrvw@aol.com.
Tuesday, November 1 - Wednesday, November 30 Resort Amenity Center
Let’s work together as a community to help less fortunate children in Manatee County experience the joy of the holidays! Donate a new, unwrapped toy. All donations will go to our local U.S. Marines Toys For Tots Foundation.
utumn brings dramatic changes in the bird life of any North American backyard. As many of the feathered residents that visit your yard during summer go south, migrants from regions to the north will pass through. Some will make brief stopovers while others will spend the winter. You can make the most of this seasonal avian passage by making some adjustments to your property that will attract greater numbers of different birds in the fall—and help them thrive.
Provide running water
Leave sugar water feeders out
Clean out birdhouses
Create brush piles
Plant evergreens
Increase the number of feeders
Move the action closer to the house
Provide foods for insect eaters
Bring bird sounds indoors
Protect birds against collisions
Visit nwf.org/Magazines/National-Wildlife/2010/Attract-Fall-Birds to learn more about these simple steps to maximize the number and variety of birds living in your yard this autumn.
