TEAM SPOTLIGHT / ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT
Krista Young YOUR LIFESTYLE CONCIERGE Where were you born? I was born on December 22. I am a true Floridian, born and raised in Florida. I have lived in 3 cities in Florida including Bradenton, Jacksonville, and Gainesville. What are your hobbies? I have a big passion for cooking; I love creating new meals, experimenting with different ingredients and flavors whenever I have the time. Occasionally, I like to surprise my work team with a home cooked meal. The look on their faces when they indulge in the savory goodness brings me so much joy and happiness, fueling my desire to keep my culinary passion alive! In addition to cooking, I love experimenting with cosmetics, especially eyeshadow. From classic nudes to smoky eyes and cut creases, I enjoy adding vibrant colors and a touch of glitter to create captivating looks. Beyond that, I have a big heart for helping and caring for others. Lastly, music is another significant passion of mine. If you know me, you’ve probably heard me singing at some point. I never said I was good at it but it is something I enjoy doing throughout my day. What are you most thankful for? I am deeply thankful for being adopted into a loving family at the age of two. This experience played a profound role in shaping the women I have become today. It has shown me true love, patience, kindness, and remarkable strength. Furthermore, I am thankful for my two amazing children, my daughter Emily who is now 17, and my son Noah, who is 6. They have truly given me the meaning of life, and I will always strive to be the best mother I can be for them. I am thankful for my friends and family both near and far, from both the past and present who always put a smile on my face.
Where is your favorite place that you have traveled to? My favorite place I have traveled to would be Tennessee, because my entire family lives up there. The kids and I try to visit at least once a year if given the opportunity. What is your proudest accomplishment? Without a doubt, motherhood remains my proudest accomplishment! Witnessing the growth and evolution of my children, observing them blossom into the wonderful individuals they will become fills my heart with so much joy. It reassures me that I am doing an amazing job being a mom.

PET FEATURE / FITNESS & WELLNESS
Furry Friends Meet Zuzu
LOVED BY BARB & HAROLD KERKORIAN What breed is your pet and how old is she? Zuzu is a 4 year-old seal-point Siamese cat with white feet, a white chin and white bub around her neck, born on July 18, 2019. What is her favorite treat? Zuzu loves chicken cat treats. What are a few amazing qualities about your sweet pet? She is quite aloof and only wants her way! She adores going for walks in her leopard-print “cat” stroller, loves being brushed and going on car trips. During our rides, she typically finds her cozy spot on the car’s console, nestles between us, and clings to the driver’s arm as she falls asleep. Tell us a fun story involving your pet! I trained her to let me know when she wants a treat by scratching on a pad on the floor wall. Now, she’ll head straight to the scratch pad and start meowing persistently until I give her a treat. Sometimes, she asks for treats 4 to 5 times a day, she is spoiled, but cute! We named her after a child in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” starring Jimmy Steward at Christmas Time! She loves to go out on the lanai and watch for squirrels, birds and sun bathe.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Margaret Dutcher & Mike Hughes The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager. although he no longer practices law. Mike’s previous position was with the Army Corps of Engineers in Chicago. I am originally from Milwaukee, WI (Go Pack!), and pursued my college education at Hamline University in Minnesota, where I majored in Music with a focus on Double Bass and Voice. I have taught music in Illinois and Washington, D.C. My path into nursing was a “God call” inspired by my personal experience of growing up with a brother who became a quadriplegic following a diving accident during his Navy service. I acquired my RN license in Illinois then practiced in Minnesota, Illinois and Mississippi.
Q A
Why did you choose Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and how long have you lived here? We moved here from St. Petersburg after my brother passed away and renovated his home. Although we wanted to remain in St. Pete, we were looking for a development that had a variety of activities. We liked the proximity of being able to go either North or South so we could get to St. Pete or the Sarasota areas and the culture that both areas encompass. We moved in December of 2020 and were the last home on Morey Farms Loop at the time. My how it has all changed! We could hear the cows then across the pond. Are you in a club? Also, tell us your hobbies. I belong to the C.E.R.T. Club. We used to golf, and as the weather cools down and our health concerns improve, we’re eager to return to the golf course. Our passion for reading is something we both cherish, and I love to bead. However, above all, music holds a special place in my heart. Tell us about your family and current or past professions. Mike is the father of two adult children. His son lives in West Chicago, while his daughter, along with her husband live in Grand Rapids, MI. A true Chicago native, Mike’s roots run deep in the Windy City, and he’s an avid fan of the Chicago Bears. He attended the University of Illinois, where he pursued a career as a Civil Engineer and an attorney,
8 ESPLANADE LIFESTYLE NOV/DEC 2023
My son, along with his family of three boys resides in Olympia, WA. My daughter lives in Golden Valley, MN, where she teaches library science. My eldest granddaughter is a kindergarten teacher, and my youngest granddaughter is pursuing a degree in Political Science and Spanish at Howard University in Washington, D.C. In 1986, I had the privilege of becoming one of the first Parish Nurses in the country, serving in my local church in Illinois. Today, I remain actively involved in this organization and have also been a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, where I had the honor of assisting seniors and contributing to their monthly publication as a member of the editorial board. What is the best advice you have ever received or given? From my dad: “Live life to the fullest above the ground instead of counting the worms. Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to.” Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to? My daughter was in the Peace Corps stationed in Mali, West Africa. This prompted my sister and me to embark on an adventure of our own - visiting her in Bamako, where she lived in a mud hut. Every morning we had the privilege of greeting the village chief, receiving his daily blessing - a cherished tradition. Our days were filled with meaningful activities, including assisting my daughter in her role as a healthcare teacher for new mothers. We helped weigh infants and shared insights on maternal well-being. We also spent time in the peanut fields and grinding the corn. There was no transportation there except on her motorcycle riding on the dirt roads. It was all very primitive, yet the people were full of joy and kindness. Mike has had many travel adventures prior to our life together. He spent some time in Kenya on an engineering project for building roads.
