Letter From the Lifestyle Team
ASHLEY COOPER YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER
Happy Fall!
Your Lifestyle team is so excited to announce all the upcoming events we have been working together to prepare for you! From the upcoming Signature Event, Karaoke Night, Great Gatsby Casino Night, Craft Classes, Cooking Demos and more! We strive to curate a variety of scheduled activities for all Members to have something they are interested in participating in. As always, we love receiving suggestions from Members!
During the month of July, we offered complimentary lemon infused water in the Fitness Center and passed out popsicles at the pool for an hour each Saturday to help everyone stay hydrated through the hot summer weather! You will continue to see pop-up complimentary items offered in different areas around the Resort Amenity to show our appreciation for our amazing Members!
I wanted to send out a special thank you to everyone who participated in our Back to School Donation Drive in the
month of July! Esplanade at Artisan Lakes has a huge heart for our community and helping those in need. Your Lifestyle team provides opportunities to give back on a regular basis.
Mark your calendars! We are partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer to support their mission of funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer. Your Lifestyle team worked our very own lemonade stand at the Resort Amenity Center on August 25 where all donations went directly to the cause.
We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events!
SEP/OCT 2023 ESPLANADE LIFESTYLE 3 Ashley
Where were you born?
Serena Rose Horton
YOUR WELLNESS CONCIERGE
I was born in Stafford Springs, Connecticut and moved to Florida during my junior year of high school. In 2007, My stepfather adopted me when I was 10 years old.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include activities that bring me closer to my higher self and activities that improve my mind, body, and spirit! My hobbies are meditation, yoga, pranayam, sound and vibrational healing, healing ceremonies, nature walks, spending time alone, listening to music (specifically DJ’s Live Sets on YouTube), organizing, and cleaning. I also love photography and taking my camera to nature preserves –just sitting there in silence observing how beautiful our world really is and taking photos in the present moment.
What are you most thankful for?
I am most thankful for my parents - no matter what, they have always supported and loved me unconditionally. I am thankful for all the hardships that I went through to lead me to my spiritual journey and make me the woman that I am today. I am also thankful for Catherine, Ashley, Krista, Margarita, and Amanda – for showing me the true meaning of a team and the true meaning of friendship.
Where is your favorite place that you have traveled to?
My favorite place that I have traveled to is Hawaii. I went from Maui, to Kona, then to Kauai. I was in awe the whole time; it was such a beautiful experience. My soul really resonated with the slow living culture and the energy of the Islands. My trip was filled with adventure and fun. I hiked a couple volcanoes, went to many amazing beaches, and the sight-seeing was spectacular.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is putting on my Meditation and Sound Healing Classes here at Esplanade. It was my first time creating a Meditation Healing Ceremony and speaking in front of 25 plus people at a time. It warmed my heart and soul to see the healing benefits and affects it had on the Members. To help someone find peace within themselves is one of my favorite things to do and to share my passion here at my workplace is incredible!

Furry Friends Meet Windy
LOVED BY JOE & NANCY CASEY
What breed is your pet and how old is she?
Windy is a one-year-old Australian Labradoodle, which is a completely different breed than a Labradoodle or an Aussiedoodle. She was born on September 29, 2022.
When you travel does she travel with you?
She has taken two trips to Chicagoland, but we don’t fly with her. We have some amazing pet sitters here in Esplanade.
What is her favorite treat?
Windy loves her hard dog food and actually thinks it’s treats!
What are a few amazing qualities about your sweet pup? She hasn’t met a person or dog that she doesn’t love. She was 100% potty trained at 3 months. She does a bunch of tricks and is always learning new ones. Once her food is in her bowl, she will sit forever staring at it until you tell her it’s ok to go eat. She was due the day of Hurricane Ian, but her mom waited a day to deliver her! That’s how she got the name Windy.
How long has your pet been a part of your family?
Since the day after Thanksgiving.
Tell us a fun story involving your pet!
Windy knows all of her toys by name and will bring them to us when we tell her which one to bring.
Creating a Bee Garden
Bees are pollinators and incredibly important wildlife. Bees visit flowers to feed on nectar and gather pollen to feed their young. In doing so bees spread some of that pollen and fertilize or “pollinate” the flowers, which then form seeds that become the next generation of plants. Those seeds are often packaged in fruits, berries and nuts that then become food for other animals, from birds to reptiles to mammals (including us). Those animals then disperse the seeds away from the parent plant in their droppings, which serve as fertilizer. Here are four things you can do in your own yard or other garden space to support native bees:
1) Plant Natives; 2) Reduce the Size of Your Lawn; 3) Stop Using Pesticides; and 4) Offer Nesting Habitat. To read the full article and learn more, visit blog.nwf.org/2023/06/creating-a-bee-garden

Jose & Norah Royo
The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.
Why did you choose Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and how long have you lived here?
After residing for 35 years in Orange County, California and Las Vegas, Nevada for 6 years, we decided to join our daughter and family in Sarasota! Norah and I love the ocean as well as the beauty of the nature. We chose Artisan Lakes because of the appeal, landscaping design and secluded feel! We love it!
QWhat Lifestyle programs are you most interested in?
AWe love getting to know new people and socializing with friends here at Esplanade! Some of our favorite activities are pickleball, tennis and bocce ball and we also love attending the LCR game every month. Wendy is a great organizer who creates an engaging atmosphere for everyone to enjoy! A big thank you to the entire team at Artisan Lakes for a job well done. Our Lifestyle Manager Ashley and her team are wonderful, selecting and organizing events that the community appreciates very much.
Tell us about your family and current or past professions. Norah was an accountant at UCI University and worked for several years in her profession. I came to the United States with a Degree in Chemical Engineering, subsequently I obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering at UCLA, UCI Universities, and a MBA degree at MIT. I was offered a
position at the McDonnell Douglas corporation (now Boeing) and subsequently NASA as a Principal Engineer and Scientist to work in Defense and Space Programs. I worked actively on the Space Shuttle, Space Station International, Satellites and Delta Rockets programs. I have six patents and published various technical papers at the Society of Chemical Engineers and the Institute of Printed Circuit Boards. Both of us feel that we had very fulfilling careers!
What is the best advice you have ever received or given?
My advice has always been to continue to excel in your area of expertise, always keep a positive attitude, the sky is the limit, be nice to everybody, and treat people with respect.
Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to?
We personally love Europe, especially Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, Italy, and Singapore!
Tell us something that might surprise people.
We appreciate being able to live a relaxed life where we can explore hobbies that interest us. Norah enjoys architectural design and loves to play bocce ball and go bowling. My interests lie within the world of nano technology and artificial intelligence, so I like to stay as up to date as possible on those topics.

Roasted Butternut Squash & Apple Soup with Thyme, Pecans, and Crème Fraîche
Culinary CreationsAT
HOME
Prep Time: 20 min | Cook Time: 50 min |
Serving Size: 6 - 8
INGREDIENTS
» 2 medium butternut squash, peeled and diced
» 3 granny smith apples, peeled and diced
» 6 tablespoons olive oil, divided
» Kosher salt
» 1 red onion, chopped
» 1 large shallot, chopped
» 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped, plus a few extra sprigs for garnish
» 4 cups good quality store-bought chicken stock
» 1 (8 ounce) container crème fraîche
» 1 ½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
» Pinch cayenne pepper
» ½ cup pecans, ground fine in a food processor
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line two large baking sheets and one small baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spread chopped butternut squash in a single, even layer on the two large baking trays. Spread chopped apple in a single layer on the
small baking sheet. Drizzle squash and apples with 2-3 tablespoons olive oil. Season generously with Kosher salt and toss to coat. Roast squash in oven for 20-30 minutes, until tender. Roast apples for only 15-20 minutes, until tender.
2. In a large stockpot, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add red onion and shallot, season with Kosher salt, and cook until softened, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes. Add roasted squash, roasted apple, thyme, and stock. Season with Kosher salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
3. Using an immersion blender, blend soup until very smooth. Alternatively, place soup in a blender (in batches if necessary), and blend until smooth (just be sure to securely hold top on blender with hot soup in there).
4. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine crème fraîche, apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Season with Kosher salt.
5. When ready to serve, divide soup between bowls, top with a dollop of crème fraîche, and sprinkle with ground pecans. Garnish with thyme sprigs, if desired. Devour immediately.
