Pillar of Dreams
Esplanade Member, Marie del Pilar Garcia is a mother, grandmother, teacher and active supporter of Pillar of Dreams
Pillar of Dreams is a non-profit organization founded in New York that focuses on empowering underprivileged children in Colombia through education. The organization believes that education is crucial for helping children achieve their dreams, recognizing that their well-being is essential to unlocking their full potential. Pillar of Dreams collaborates with volunteers, donors, and local partners to mobilize resources and support various educational and social initiatives.
Pillar of Dreams works with several Colombian organizations across different regions. For instance, in Cartagena, they collaborate with Amigos del Mar and Dones de Misericordia to support over 300 children in orphanages and schools. In Bogotá, they partner with Instituto Cerros del Sur, while in Cali, they work with Fundación Nuevo Amanecer, which aids children with cancer, and Fundación Jesús de Nazareth. Their efforts also extend to supporting educational projects for other underprivileged children through partnerships with additional local non-profits.
The latest initiative includes Palomino-La Guajira, where children from the Kogui indigenous community are now part of efforts to provide essential supplies for their education and improve their living
conditions. These initiatives aim to enhance their quality of life by addressing basic human needs.
The organization’s mission encompasses not only academic education but also the promotion of sports as a vital tool for teaching discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills. Through integrated programs, they aim to prepare children to overcome their challenging circumstances and pursue higher education or professional opportunities, ultimately improving the quality of life in their communities.
Pillar of Dreams sustains its efforts through various fundraising activities, including an annual event in New York that helps finance its projects in Colombia. The team is now expanding these events to other states in the USA to gather more educational, sports, music, and oral hygiene supplies.
Pillar of Dreams aims to expand its support to other foundations in various Latin American cities, assisting children in underserved areas. The organization envisions a future where it can reach even more communities in need, helping to uplift and empower children across the region.
