SIGNATURE EVENT This special event truly sparkled all evening thanks to our Members and dazzling entertainment. This past October we hosted another amazing Signature Event with our Esplanade Lake Club Members. We danced the night away to Mark Z Street Speakeasy Duo and transported back to the time of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. We enjoyed petite bites and a bubbly black bowtie signature cocktail. Although our community is still growing, we loved getting the chance to spend time with our neighbors and friends.

Benefits of a Fresh Air Workout!

D

id you know fresh air can aid the body in digesting food more effectively and simultaneously strengthens the immune system? FACT: As your lungs dilate from increased levels of oxygen, the body will release airborne toxins when exhaling. The American Heart Association recommends adults get 150 minutes per week of moderateintensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity. Commit to fit this year and get active!

Chocolate LAVA CAKE FOR TWO INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

» »

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. 2. Butter two 6-ounce ramekins or oven-safe mugs and place on a baking sheet. Set aside. 3. In a medium bowl add in the butter and chocolate. Gently melt in the microwave. 4. Once melted, whisk in the sugar, eggs, vanilla, and coffee until well combined. 5. Lastly, stir in the flour and salt. Mix until just combined. Comfy Day & Self-Care Recipes

O

n February 20, National Comfy Day gives us all permission to get comfortable! We all deserve a day to get cozy in our favorite spot and relax. Short for comfortable, comfy is a word we use to describe the places and things that make us the most at ease. At the end of the day, we are all connected by a desire to be comfy. Some are drawn to their favorite blanket. Others define comfy by a sandy beach in the sunshine. Our beloved pets and special sweater add to our comfy satisfaction, too. Combine a little ambiance and take out, and the comfy level improves even more. National Comfy Day is all about achieving the perfect level of comfy and celebrating it to its fullest! Before partaking in National Comfy Day “activities,” here are some natural skincare recipes to get you started.

COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP

It's Time for a Green Hour

N

ational Wildlife Federation’s Green Hour encourages parents and caregivers to help their children explore the outdoors safely and develop habits for a daily dose of nature. This is important because we know that getting outside and connecting with nature on a regular basis has important emotional, mental and physical health benefits, especially for children. » MENTAL HEALTH: Daily unstructured free play improves children’s physical and mental health. » ACTIVELY ENGAGED: Physically active kids are more creative, less aggressive, and show better concentration. » LEARNING RETENTION: Outdoor experiences and education enhance children’s ability to learn and retain knowledge. » STEWARDSHIP: Outdoor experiences build a conservation ethic and concern for the natural world.

Encouraging kids of all ages to spend time every day discovering the wonders of our world. The National Wildlife Federation’s Green Hour program is designed to encourage parents, schools, childcare centers, park agencies, camps, grandparents, and others to adopt a goal of one hour each day for children to play and learn outdoors in nature.

The idea of a "Green Hour" comes from research on creative play and health by the Centers for Disease Control and the Academy of America Pediatrics. Research also shows the best way to connect young people to a lifelong concern for nature, wildlife, and the outdoors is through regular positive experiences. Getting kids outside has never been more important. That’s why we’ve teamed up with L.L. Bean to provide kids and families with safe, fun, and easy activities to do outdoors. Each week we will provide new activities for connecting kids to nature—from creating a nature notebook to becoming a wildlife detective, and getting creative with leaves, nature’s opportunities are endless. The nature of childhood has changed. American childhood has moved indoors during the last two decades, taking a mental and physical toll on today’s kids. The negative impact of decreased time outdoors includes a doubling of the childhood obesity rate—accompanied by an incremental hundred billion dollar cost to our health care system— as well as declining creativity, concentration, and social skills. Connecting children and nature has important health benefits. Studies show outdoor time helps children grow lean and strong, enhances imaginations and attention spans, decreases aggression, and boosts classroom performance. In addition, children who spend time in nature regularly are shown to become better stewards of the environment.
