Letter From the Lifestyle Team KAITLYN ALDRIDGE YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER

A warm sunny hello to this sweet summer time! Here at Esplanade Lake Club you have the best summer pastime by heading out on the water on our beautiful Lake Como. I know many of our Members are taking trips this summer so be sure to share some of your vacation photos with us as we love to see you having fun! I myself will be heading to Glacier National Park in Montana with family and cannot wait! I am pleased to announce we are seeing more and more participation in our clubs and interest groups! If you would like to be a part of poker, mahjong, canasta, hand & foot and so much more, be sure to reach out to be added to our lists! If you would like to start a club or interest group be sure to let me know. In case you missed it this spring, we hosted our second Signature Event, Forever Young Prom Night. We also celebrated the midway construction of our amenities, and saved over 15 lives

at our first ever community blood drive. This summer we cannot wait to see you for kayaking, Member Minglers, group outings, and of course the national mac & cheese day celebration where we will have a specialty food truck onsite for us to enjoy. I'd like to kindly remind everyone of the importance of registering for activities and cancelling your registrations if you are no longer able to attend, in a timely manner. This allows us to accurately anticipate total attendance and ensure the most enjoyable Lifestyle programming for our Members! Sometimes activities require a participation minimum, so we also want to make sure we are meeting certain guidelines to host these activities. Lastly, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or suggestions you may have!

FITNESS

Benefits of Stretching

S

tudies about the benefits of stretching have had mixed results. Some research shows that stretching doesn’t reduce muscle soreness after exercise. Other studies show that lengthening the muscle and holding the stretch immediately before a sprint may slightly worsen performance. However, research has shown that stretching can help improve flexibility, and, as a result, the range of motion of your joints.

BETTER FLEXIBILITY MAY: » » » » » »

Improve your performance in physical activities Decrease your risk of injuries Help your joints move through their full range of motion Increase muscle blood flow Enable your muscles to work most effectively Improve your ability to do daily activities

DON’T CONSIDER STRETCHING A WARMUP

You may hurt yourself if you stretch cold muscles. Before stretching,

warm up with light walking, jogging or biking at low intensity for 5 to 10 minutes. Even better, stretch after your workout when your muscles are warm.

STRIVE FOR SYMMETRY

Everyone’s genetics for flexibility are a bit different. Rather than striving for the flexibility of a dancer or gymnast, focus on having equal flexibility side to side (especially if you have a history of a previous injury). Flexibility that is not equal on both sides may be a risk factor for injury.

FOCUS ON MAJOR MUSCLE GROUPS

Concentrate your stretches on major muscle groups such as your calves, thighs, hips, lower back, neck and shoulders. Make sure that you stretch both sides. Resource: www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/fitness/in-depth/ stretching/art-20047931

HEALTH BENEFITS OF RESTORATIVE SLEEP

According to Psychology Today, sleep problems can cause issues with memory, thinking, mood (depression, anxiety) and chronic fatigue/chronic pain. During sleep, the brain is able to repair and grow cells, tissue, and nerves that regenerate and boost the immune system. Along with good nutrition and stress reduction, restorative sleep is vital for physical, mental, and emotional health. According to the CDC, adults need at least seven hours of sleep nightly.

Living Alongside Nature

D

id you know that monarch butterflies across North America are in trouble? The species has sharply declined in just the last few decades due to habitat loss. The monarch butterfly's eastern population has fallen by as much as 90 percent, and its western population has fallen by as much as 99 percent. With the Esplanade Lake Club Amenities almost complete we are so excited to have partnered with the National Wildlife Federation and have our very own butterfly garden certified as a recognized habitat. Also, many of our Members are becoming avid wildlife observers and have seen not only alligators in our community, but also have spotted black bears! To make sure we are all doing our part in living with nature to the best of our abilities, join us as Esplanade Lake Club becomes bear wise!

WILDLIFE LECTURE – BECOMING BEAR WISE Thursday, August 4 | 11 a.m. Sales Gallery | Registration is Required Join Chris Boyce, a Florida Fish & Wildlife bear specialist to discuss all things bears and what to expect while living amongst them. This is an informative and short presentation you don’t want to miss!
