KAITLYN ALDRIDGE YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER

Letter From the Lifestyle Team Summer is Here!

At the height of the summer, I am thankful we get to enjoy the benefits of our beautiful Lake Como. We love seeing your boats on the lake and are happier to see you all enjoying the Resort pool. While you’re enjoying the summer sun, please remember to drink your water and wear your SPF. It is so important not to forget to hydrate and to keep your health at the forefront.

To beat the heat this summer, your Lifestyle team has put together some fun events for you to be a part of! Join us for our fourth of July celebration, get out on the water and kayak with our favorite vendor Cape Coral Kayak and learn something new with Stacy at her Lunch & Learn with Lee Health! We’ll also be getting down at our second Signature Event: Boots & BBQ. The price, menu and additional details will be emailed out to all, so stay tuned to your emails to learn more.

We did not forget the kids - we’ll host Summer Story Sessions every Thursday at 11 a.m. for children under 12, but all ages are welcome to sit in and listen! We also cannot forget that we’ll host ice cream socials, and even a school sendoff event at The Venue for all the kids heading back to school. If you are willing to donate, we’re hosting a school supply drive from July 1 through August 1 to assist area children in need.

One of the best things about Esplanade Lake Club is that there are so many Members with different interests and hobbies. If you have a particular interest that you would like to share with your friends and neighbors, we have multiple opportunities to become a club leader.

All you have to do is share your interest with your Lifestyle team and we’ll help get your club started by providing the interest group and club information packet, assisting with choosing dates and times that work best for your group, and by helping promote it to all of the Members of the community. The variety of clubs are endless; let’s build a great social program together!

As you review the upcoming activities and events on the interactive calendar, please remember to register for any events and activities you would like to attend. This helps tremendously in making sure all activities are executed flawlessly and all who sign up to attend are accommodated.

Let’s make this summer one to remember!

CURATED BY

Let’s Glow Pickleball Social

Members gathered at Esplanade Lake Club on Friday, April 12 for an unforgettable night at Esplanade’s first ever Glow in the Dark Pickleball Social, Let’s Glow! Curated by Esplanade Resort Experiences with the incredible support of the local team at Lake Club, this event transformed the pickleball courts into a vibrant arena, as 46 players wore their neon best for spirited matches. The atmosphere was electric with lively tunes, while the glow bar offered light bites and beverages.

Members were encouraged to bring their A-game, showcasing their best pickleball skills, as they engaged in friendly competition under the stars. The evening concluded with a champions vs challengers 1-point match-serve game that crowned one king and one queen of the court!

Stacy Logue, Wellness & Sports Courts Manager, took a moment to reflect on the event, noting how it exceeded all expectations for players, spectators and team members. As the lights dimmed and the music intensified, the vibrant glow across the courts surprised everyone, eliciting priceless cheers from the crowd.

Attendees enjoyed glow bracelets and complimentary shaved ice to cool down after their matches! The opportunity to compete for top prizes added more excitement to the night, fueling the competitive spirit among participants.

The Lake Club Team expressed their joy witnessing Members smiling, laughing, dancing and genuinely enjoying themselves. Creating experiences that enrich Members’ lives is a top priority for the team, and one that they take great pride in. Crystal Steere, National Manager Spa, Wellness & Sports Courts extended her gratitude to Stacy and the Lake Club team for their exceptional leadership. The event brought the community together for an evening filled with victories, camaraderie, and friendly competition.

To the Members of Lake Club: The success of this event would not be possible without your enthusiasm and active participation. We extend our thanks to you for your support and engagement. Mineral or Chemical Sunscreen Which Should You Choose?

As we spend more time outside this summer, you may be wondering how best to protect yourself from the sun’s damaging UV rays and reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. When choosing a sunscreen, you’ll see lots of terms, like physical, mineral and chemical. But what do these terms mean? And how do these sunscreens work to protect you from the sun’s damaging rays? Dermatologist Anisha Patel, M.D., explains.

MINERAL SUNSCREEN REFLECTS UV RAYS

The main difference between mineral (or physical) sunscreens and chemical sunscreens is how they handle the sun’s rays. The active ingredients in mineral sunscreens are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which create a barrier on your skin that reflects UV light. They don’t absorb into the skin.

“Mineral sunscreens offer the most protection because they’re literally creating a physical separation between you and the sun,” she notes. “With physical blockers, if you can still see it, it’s still working,” Patel says. These products should be reapplied around every two hours, especially if you’ve been swimming or sweating.

If you don’t like the look of traditional mineral sunscreen, you may choose a tinted option. These offer the same mineral protection with a bit of color, so they blend more naturally, no matter your skin tone.

CHEMICAL SUNSCREEN ABSORBS

UV RAYS

Most people don’t love the thick texture of mineral sunscreens, so they opt for chemical versions, even though they’re not as effective. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays by changing their chemical structure to reduce sun damage. Most chemical sunscreens contain at least one of the following active ingredients: oxybenzone, octinoxate, cinoxate, dioxybenzone, ensulizole, homosalate, meradimate, octisalate, octocrylene, padimate O, sulisobenzone,

and avobenzone. They come in both cream and spray form.

Chemical sunscreens wear off more quickly and need to be reapplied every couple of hours. And though the spray sunscreens may be more convenient, it’s easier to miss spots on your skin with sprays than with cream sunscreens.

Hybrid sunscreens have a combination of active ingredients including mineral and chemical compounds, allowing for a thinner formulation that rubs in better. With these types of sunscreens, you’ll still want to read the label to make sure you’re applying them correctly to get the most protection.

UPF CLOTHING CREATES PHYSICAL DEFENSE

Certain types of clothing and hats can offer more protection from the sun. These have an “ultraviolet protection factor” or UPF on the label. Sun-protective clothes can either be chemically treated or created with more tightly woven materials to block the sun. “You’ll want to look for darker colors or a tighter weave on the clothing to get the most protection,” Patel says. Shirts with long sleeves, pants, and hats with a wide brim are a good idea to keep the sun off your skin. Over time, chemically treated UPF clothing may lose its protection factor, so you should read the labels and replace these items as recommended to avoid getting burned.
