Letter From the Lifestyle Team KAITLYN ALDRIDGE YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER

Happy Fall Everyone! If you are anything like me, you cannot wait for the fall season. I am originally from New England, so I am a huge fan of crisp fall air, the changing of the leaves, pumpkins, apple cider and sweater weather! Although fall is a bit different here in sunny Southwest Florida, I still like to get into the fall spirit by decorating my house for the season and of course, enjoying some delicious apple pie even if it's poolside. We are starting to see some of our members return from summer vacations and visiting family and we are so excited to have you back here at Lake Club. In September, join us for a half day fishing excursion, escape room adventure and even an NFL season kick-off tailgate. We will also be hosting a food truck for an Oktoberfest happy hour party, so be sure to sign up! For October, get ready for some spooky fun as we will be hosting our Howl-O-Ween dog party for our furry friends, as well as heading offsite for a murder mystery dinner train experience. Your Lifestyle Team has also planned our third Signature Event, which will be held on Friday, October 22nd. Transport back to the era of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Gene Kelly where bubbles fill the air. Dress to impress or honor your favorite Hollywood stars

of the past as we enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and dance the night away! Our Lifestyle here at Esplanade Lake Club will be one-of-a-kind as we continue to mold our programming around our members’ interests and needs. We always encourage new club and event ideas. If there is a club or interest group you would like to create, a restaurant you believe is “out of this world” or an event you would like to attend, don’t hesitate to reach out to me to share your ideas. As you review the upcoming activities, please note it is important to RSVP for each event so proper accommodations can be made. We encourage your participation in our lifestyle events so that you have the opportunity to meet and mingle with your fellow neighbors and I! We look forward to all of the fun, exciting times ahead and creating memories that will last a lifetime. If you have any questions about our Lifestyle Program, you are more than welcome to contact me at any time.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT / PET FEATURE

Kevin Koelemeyer

Q A

Why did you choose Esplanade Lake Club? I went to college at FGCU and my dorm room at the time was on the Miromar Lake. I promised myself one day, I would be at a point to live on this lake. When Esplanade Lake Club launched, I knew this was my chance to fulfill that dream. What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Also, tell us your hobbies. Anything outdoors, being on Lake Como, boating and kayaking. Tell us about your family/pets and your current or past profession(s). I am the Managing Director of an insurance brokerage in Fort Myers, as well as the Co-Founder of a water remediation company. Tell us something that may surprise people:

I race cars semi-professionally and I enjoy partaking in sports car racing on "road racing" circuits. Similar to formula one and indy car racing but in sports cars. In 2018 I was the National Points Champion for my class. I travel around the country racing in my spare time. What is the best advice you have ever been given? You are either moving forward or moving backwards. There is no in-between. Where is the most exciting place you've traveled to and what made it so memorable? Montana - There is a resort there by the name of Paws Up. It was a tremendous experience being one with nature but in a very comfortable setting. Definitely can’t wait to go back. Anything else you'd like to share? Very much looking forward to sharing this beautiful community with everyone!

Furry Friends HAVE A FURRY FAMILY MEMBER YOU WANT TO FEATURE? Contact your Lifestyle Manager, Kaitlyn Aldridge at KAldridge@Evergreen-LM.com, to be featured in the next edition of the Lifestyle Magazine. Answer a few questions about your furry, feathery, or scaly friend and share a couple pictures. Don’t have a furry family of your own, but know a community member who does? Nominate them to be the next Featured Furry Friend. Contact the member to suggest the feature or your Lifestyle Manager to nominate anonymously.

The Pumpkin Workout Pumpkin has been added to everything fall-related, so why not add it to your fall workout? OK, maybe not literally, but in the spirit of the pumpkin shape, swap in a medicine ball or kettlebell in its place. Elise Caira, trainer and owner of Sweat Fixx in Boston, Massachusetts, put together this creative lower-body workout. Set a 20-minute timer and get through as many rounds as you can, taking breaks and hydrating when you need it. » Lunge Twist: Hold a medicine ball to your chest as you lunge forward and twist to one side. As you twist back to center, rise up and press the weight to the sky. Complete 10 reps, then switch sides. » Step-Ups: Hold your medicine ball to your chest and step up onto a bench or chair one leg at a time. Complete 10 reps on one leg before switching. » Squat Thrust: Start with your feet hip-width apart, medicine ball at your chest. Lower down into your squat, then straighten, pressing the ball overhead. Do 10 reps. » Mountain Climbers: Start in a high plank, with your hands on a medicine ball. Keeping your hips down, drive one knee in toward your chest, then quickly switch legs. Do 20 reps total (10 on each leg).

WELLNESS

9 Reasons to Practice Yoga 1. YOGA IMPROVES STRENGTH, BALANCE AND FLEXIBILITY.

5. YOGA RELAXES YOU, TO HELP YOU SLEEP BETTER.

Slow movements and deep breathing increase blood flow and warm up muscles, while holding a pose can build strength.

Research shows that a consistent bedtime yoga routine can help you get in the right mindset and prepare your body to fall asleep and stay asleep.

TRY IT: TREE POSE Balance on one foot, while holding the other foot to your calf or above the knee (but never on the knee) at a right angle. Try to focus on one spot in front of you, while you balance for one minute.

2. YOGA HELPS WITH BACK PAIN RELIEF. Yoga is as good as basic stretching for easing pain and improving mobility in people with lower back pain. The American College of Physicians recommends yoga as a first-line treatment for chronic low back pain. TRY IT: CAT-COW POSE Get on all fours, placing your palms underneath your shoulders and your knees underneath your hips. First, inhale, as you let your stomach drop down toward the floor. Then, exhale, as you draw your navel toward your spine, arching your spine like a cat stretching.

3. YOGA CAN EASE ARTHRITIS SYMPTOMS. Gentle yoga has been shown to ease some of the discomfort of tender, swollen joints for people with arthritis, according to a Johns Hopkins review of 11 recent studies.

4. YOGA BENEFITS HEART HEALTH. Regular yoga practice may reduce levels of stress and body-wide inflammation, contributing to healthier hearts. Several of the factors contributing to heart disease, including high blood pressure and excess weight, can also be addressed through yoga. TRY IT: DOWNWARD DOG POSE Get on all fours, then tuck your toes under and bring your sitting bones up, so that you make a triangle shape. Keep a slight bend in your knees, while lengthening your spine and tailbone.

TRY IT: LEGS-UP-THE-WALL POSE Sit with your left side against a wall, then gently turn right and lift your legs up to rest against the wall, keeping your back on the floor and your sitting bones close to the wall. You can remain in this position for 5 to 15 minutes.

6. YOGA CAN MEAN MORE ENERGY AND BRIGHTER MOODS. You may feel increased mental and physical energy, a boost in alertness and enthusiasm, and fewer negative feelings after getting into a routine of practicing yoga.

7. YOGA HELPS YOU MANAGE STRESS. According to the National Institutes of Health, scientific evidence shows that yoga supports stress management, mental health, mindfulness, healthy eating, weight loss and quality sleep. TRY IT: CORPSE POSE (SAVASANA) Lie down with your limbs gently stretched out, away from the body, with your palms facing up. Try to clear your mind while breathing deeply. You can hold this pose for 5 to 15 minutes.

8. YOGA CONNECTS YOU WITH A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY. Participating in yoga classes can ease loneliness and provide an environment for group healing and support. Even during one-onone sessions loneliness is reduced as one is acknowledged as a unique individual, being listened to and participating in the creation of a personalized yoga plan.

9. YOGA PROMOTES BETTER SELF-CARE. SEP/OCT 2021

Pumpkin Pie WALNUT

COOKIES

Somewhere between a mini pie and a cookie, these delicious treats are perfect for the holidays, as a snack, as a dessert, or with a cup of morning coffee any time of year.

PREP: 30 MINS COOK: 15 MINS ADDITIONAL: 30 MINS TOTAL: 1 HR 15 MINS SERVINGS: 20 YIELD: 20 COOKIES

INGREDIENTS ½ cup pumpkin puree 3 tablespoons white sugar 1 ½ tablespoons finely chopped walnuts 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 1 (14.1 ounce) package refrigerated pie crusts 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon water 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar, or as needed Glaze: ¼ cup confectioners' sugar, or more to taste ½ tablespoon maple syrup, or more to taste ½ tablespoon milk

DIRECTIONS 1. Whisk pumpkin puree, sugar, walnuts, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and vanilla together in a bowl until well blended. 2. Place each of the 2 pie crusts on a lightly-floured surface, and roll out the dough thinly with a rolling pin. Using a 2 1/4-inch round biscuit or cookie cutter, cut each pie crust into 20 circles for a total of 40. 3. Fill 20 circles with about 1 teaspoon of the pumpkin filling, leaving 1/3 inch open around the edges. Do not overfill. 4. Dip your finger in water and run it around the edge of each circle. Place a second pie crust circle on top. Press down the edges and crimp with a fork to seal. Whisk egg and water together in a small bowl. Brush the tops of the cookies with the egg mixture and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon sugar. 5. Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees. 6. Place a batch of the cookies in the air fryer basket, leaving space around each for air circulation. 7. Bake until golden brown, about 7 minutes, and move to a rack to completely cool. Depending on the type and size of your air fryer, you may have to cook in batches, and your timing may vary, so keep your eye on them. 8. Whisk 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar, 1/2 tablespoon maple syrup, and milk together in a bowl to a drizzle consistency. If glaze is too thick, add a bit more maple syrup. If too runny, just add a little more confectioners' sugar. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies, and allow the glaze to set before serving, about 30 minutes.

Giving Back: School Supply Drive Highlighting your most recent charitable efforts in the community.

D

uring August, Esplanade Lake Club participated in their very first Back to School Supply outreach event. The community collected an assortment of back-to-school supplies like notebooks, glue, folders, pencils, etc., and donated them to San Carlos Park Elementary, a Title 1 school located in the area. Title 1 schools have the highest concentrations of economically disadvantaged students enrolled at the school. Title I funds are used to improve the teaching and learning in these schools and to help students meet challenging state academic standards. The Lifestyle Team would like to thank all the members who donated the back-toschool supplies. Your donations provided many children with helpful tools to start their school year off in the right direction!

We know that our members are passionate about connecting with the local community through philanthropy opportunities and charitable giving. We would love to share the ways you are making our community a more positive place, as well as ways members can get involved. Whether you’re donating blood or simply picking up the mail for a neighbor, we want to share your kindness! Tell us about it so we may highlight your efforts in future publications. If you would like to share any acts of kindness and philanthropy, big or small, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.

National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day This year, National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day took place on Wednesday, August 4th. In honor of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, your Esplanade Lake Club Lifestyle Team handed out chocolate chip cookies to all the members that stopped by the Sales Gallery.
