AMBER ELLIS YOUR RESORT MANAGER
Fall is on the Horizon!
As we approach the final stretch of the year, it’s a perfect moment to reflect on what truly makes our community exceptional: our spirit of unity and togetherness. Here at Esplanade at Tradition, community isn’t just a concept; it’s the heartbeat of who we are.
Over the past months, we’ve witnessed countless moments that have brought us closer together—shared laughter at events, the warmth of friendships old and new, and the joy of seeing our families grow alongside one another. Each gathering, each activity, like Deep Sea Fishing, musical bingo, and the Fourth of July Culinary Collaboration have been an opportunity to weave tighter the fabric of our community, creating cherished memories that will endure for years to come.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to unveil a series of upcoming events that promise to delight and inspire. These events are more than mere occasions; they are
celebrations of our shared experiences and the rich tapestry of traditions that define us. From signature destination events to intimate gatherings, like Aqua Palooza, Murder Mystery Night, and Oktoberfest, every event is crafted with the intention of fostering connections and deepening the bonds that make our community so special.
As we prepare for the excitement ahead, I encourage each of you to embrace these moments with open hearts and a sense of anticipation. Let us continue to build upon the foundation of unity and togetherness that defines Esplanade at Tradition. Together, we will create new memories and strengthen our community spirit.

Furry Friends
Meet Saroo LOVED BY JORGE & CARINA MATOS
Saroo is an incredible Goldendoodle that still thinks like a puppyplayful, smart and very energetic. Many people ask, “Where did the name “Saroo” come from?” Well, Carina and I saw the movie “Lion” that takes place in India with Nicole Kidman about two little boys and one got lost when the train took off. His name was Saroo, so when we started looking for our dog, we finally found our Saroo in Orlando as a puppy.
He loves the water and his favorite place to have fun is in the Florida Keys (Islamorada). We found an island called Butternut Key where we would go boating and he loves to run and splash in the water. Now, in his new home in Esplanade, he wants to swim in the lake, but we have warned him about the alligators, so instead he chases the bunnies and barks at the cranes. He does not like the workers and their trucks on our street so walking through them is a challenge sometimes with the loud noise. Saroo loves to lunge at golf carts.
One trait about Saroo is he loves people and likes to have eye contact at the same level, so we failed the “jumping” training class. He is so smart that he has figured out how to snatch food when not looking. Finally, his favorite treat is a ride over to Culver’s or Starbucks for a pup cup.
It’s Leave the Leaves Month!
You might think that gardening for wildlife is only something you do during spring and summer, but there are things you can do to attract and support beautiful butterflies, bees and birds year-round. Fall is a terrific time to keep active in your garden! Make it even better for the multitude of wildlife species that need fallen leaves as a habitat to provide cover to survive the coming colder months. Jorge & Carina Matos
The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people who call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.
COL (Ret) Jorge and Carina Matos moved to Esplanade at Tradition from South Florida in July 2023. They both worked for and retired from the Department of Defense last year and have made Port Saint Lucie their home. They have two lovely daughters, Annika, who is a web designer, and Jessica, who is an art therapist, and their beloved Goldendoodle Saroo. Jorge’s background is from Puerto Rico while Carina was born in Puerto Rico from Swedish parents. She tells people she is a “Swederican” and enjoys speaking all three languages.
Jorge served 30 years active duty in the U.S. Army and retired as Colonel back in 2008. Jorge proudly served his nation during two conflicts, Desert Storm and the Invasion of Panama. As an Air Defense Artillery and Foreign Area Officer, Jorge and his family spent 23 years overseas with two tours in Germany and 18 years in Latin America. Having served in five Embassies (Panama, Argentina, Uruguay, Guatemala and Chile) as the Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché, Jorge culminated his 30-year career at the U.S. Southern Command in Doral, Florida. Subsequently, he went on to work for General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) as Program Manager, then for the Special Operations Command South.
While overseas, Carina worked in different capacities for the Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Justice and International Schools. She culminated her 20 years of Government service as the Executive Assistant to the Combatant Commander to Southern Command in June 2023.
Jorge and Carina love the water. Having a beach nearby was a prerequisite for home location and they enjoy going boating when the opportunity arises. They both love to walk, exercise and hope to get back to playing golf and tennis one day, along with relaxing at the Resort pool. More importantly, they enjoy being with family and friends and meeting new people sharing experiences and traditions. We are so fortunate to have wonderful neighbors and a special place to call home.

Get inspired by a story from two of our Members, Linda and Dennis Ferry, who had the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable experience with Destinations by Esplanade: Charismatic Mediterranean Cruise.
“This was our first cruise and it was absolutely wonderfulthe trip of a lifetime. We toured Barcelona, Spain (Sagrada La Familia), Palamos, Spain, Rome, Italy (the Vatican), Amalfi Coast and Poisitano, Igoumenitsa, Greece (The Meteora Monasteries), Argostoli Cephalonia, Greece, Taormina, Sicily (loved it here), Kotor, Montenegro on the Dalmatian Coast, Split Croatia, and Venice on our own (one of our favorites)! Our experience with Destinations was delightful. Everything went smoothly and they thought of everything, all we had to do was be present.
Also, because we booked as a part of Destinations by Esplanade, Oceania knew that I had just retired. We were at dinner in the French
Restaurant with another couple and out comes a cake. When we returned to our room it was all decked out with balloons and banners and champagne ready! It was such a nice surprise! We highly recommend Destinations by Esplanade and will certainly use them again for future travels.”
